We had lunch outside. The food, wine and patio were all great. The only problem was all the bees buzzing around.

We went here on Mother's Day and received very poor service. We ordered our food right away when we arrived, and it took over an hour to finally receive it. Meanwhile, several people who ordered after us received their food long before we did. It honestly seemed like our order may have been lost, but instead of being upfront and apologizing, we were repeatedly told "5 more minutes" over and over again. On top of that, I asked the employee at the register if they had any nonalcoholic wine or drinks available, and the response I got was basically "I don't know, I don't think so," without even attempting to check or ask someone else. After waiting that long, our food finally arrived cold, which made the experience even more disappointing. Especially on Mother's Day, when families are coming out to celebrate, we expected much better customer service and communication. read more

My friends and I started here for the first stop of our winery day. We headed straight to the wine tasting room, and we thought the wine tasting was such a great deal! For $10, you can taste any 4 Mount Pleasant wines. For an additional $5, you can take home your wine glass. An employee handed each of us a sheet with all of our options and told us to circle the four we wanted to try. I tend to gravitate towards sweeter white wines, but I ended up trying the Brut Imperial, Dry Vignoles, Pink Catawba, and 2013 Vintage. My favorite ended up being the Dry Vignoles, which is a dry white wine with pineapple, cream soda, banana cake, and peach jam aromas. The employee helping us was super friendly and personable. He truly made it such a fun experience for us! My boyfriend and I ended up buying a bottle of the Chambourcin to share, and even though I'm not typically a dry red fan, I actually loved this one! The bottle was $28. We were really hungry, so we decided to grab some food just a short walk down the sidewalk from the wine tasting room. My friend has a nut allergy, so she notified the employees just to be safe. The employees seemed like they hadn't dealt with this before. They were very kind, but I'm not sure this place is super allergy-friendly. We ended up ordering a margherita flatbread and Greek feta dip. Both were decent, but nothing spectacular. Presentation was great, however I personally think everything looked better than it tasted. Bathrooms weren't the cleanest. They had live music playing by the outdoor patio area. Such beautiful views with so many cute spots for taking pictures! We had a great time overall. read more

Mount Pleasant was our 2nd stop on winery day. We took the free trolley. Mount Pleasant had paper tasting menus for us to mark up and take home. So I have notes! Chardonel: "Worst wine" my friend ever has had. Dry vignoles: OK by me, but my friend didn't like it. Chambourcin: He "would actually buy that one." Pink Catawba: Rather floral. Good on first taste. Concord: My palate was corrupted by this point, but I've never met a Concord I disliked. Blackberry: My friend's favorite. "Tastes like juice." I thought it was yummy, too, but my palate was trashed, so I think I don't know what it tasted like. Then we went to the café for some palate-cleansing pizza (PCP). read more

This winery was a favorite on our bachelorette winery crawl this weekend! The multi tier patio, views and band were all amazing and the crowd was definitely fun. We ended up stopping by another popular spot and wished we had stayed longer here because the energy was fantastic. There are 2 primary entrances - first is the tasting room which can get pretty busy on a weekend and if you buy wine there, you have a bit of a hall back to the patio area. There's also a parking lot and ADA entrance that is right next to the patio/band set up. If you don't really care about the tasting, skip the tasting room, head to the back entrance, snag a table and order wine from the adjacent cafe. There is a single restroom inside the cafe and then restrooms in the building behind the band area. I'll also say that of all the places we stopped this was by far the most diverse crowd we encountered. I wasn't a fan of paying for water but it was only a dollar per bottle. Beautiful spot, but the wine was sub-par sadly. Upon arrival, I was excited as it looked very promising. The tasting room is quite open with the draw to bring you to the bar. The wine tasting fee is quite affordable, so that's a plus. Their focus was much more on traditional wines versus sweet fruit wines like many other neighboring wineries. The downside was their reds were quite acidic, I am by no means a wine expert, but it was a tad too much for me. Their whites seemed to fair well in the area though and made a comeback for me. I ended up passing on their fruit wines, so I sadly cannot comment on them. To me the price point of the wines seemed fair, but others seem to think it's a tad high, but then again I am used to CA pricing. As for the staff, they were extremely friendly and even gave us a tour of the grounds. I can see why many opt to choose this facility for their weddings, stunning views! I did not think their grounds were as large as they were and can see this as a hot spot during the warmer parts of the year. Again, the wines brought the review down, everything else was superb. I would be down to try it again though if I revisit Augusta. read more

The drive out to the winery might be considered a bit long for some but with the leaves starting to change colors it makes it so enjoyable. Since the Hoffmann's acquired a vast amount of the property in and around Augusta things are changing a bit for the better with business being added and some expansion on others. The winery has gone through a change and makes for a nice place to enjoy a fantastic view of the countryside, relax share a bottle of delicious local wines have a bite of food from Sugarfire (Thursday-Sunday) and listen to live music on the weekend. read more

Great location for live music and wine with a view! We visited on a Saturday and were able to find a table outside without waiting. They have a lot of outdoor tables and a gorgeous view. This would be a great place if looking for seating for a group of 6-8. The tasting was wonderful, all the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. We started at Augusta winery down the hill, which is a sister winery to Mount Pleasant Estates. If you are looking for a nicer winery with great photo opps- this would be the place for you! It's a beautiful property but it was just not our cup of tea. We all enjoyed the wines better (both taste and price point) at Augusta. Also the staff was not very friendly with our group unfortunately, which was a bit of a turn off. I believe they they serve food there as well and have live music! They had some cool classic cars for patrons to check out across the street which the guys enjoyed most! read more

We love the drive to Augusta, MO but they are doing alot of roadwork along the scenic route past Defiance. We also love what Mr. Hoffman is doing with the town and vineyards he purchased. Truly going to out Augusta on the map as the Napa Valley of the Midwest. The only drawback is that Mount Pleasant is going to get sooo busy they are going to need to enlarge their cafe and outdoor sitting area. Plus they need to redesign how Sugarfire BBQ operates their walkup counter. Definitely not enough room to receive orders and pickup orders. We placed ours and when my husband went to pick it up a few minutes later there were at least 10 people crowded around the window/counter. Very poor system and design. read more

As far as view, entertainment, and atmosphere for a winery, Mount Pleasant is definitely one of the best wineries in Missouri! Now, as far as actual wine selection, that's a whole different story. My first experience with MPE was a few years ago when I and a few friends made the trip to come here and enjoy a day. We were quickly upset to learn in the tasting room that there were no sweet wines. Yes friends, that's what we were told. There were no sweet white wines. That abruptly ended our time at MPE. We headed to Balducci's and had a great time with great wine and great food. I hadn't been back since until Saturday. A couple of people and I who were a part of a bus trip to Augusta Winery, walked over to MPE after hearing how much better the music was there compared to Augusta. There was a 3-piece blues band playing, which was really good. There were a lot of people with dogs there so I guess there may have been some type of dog competition/bring-your-dog-day there. It was no big deal. The patio and view are expansive and beautiful. The complex is very large and features various historical and educational landmarks related to winemaking in the past and present. I liked that, in that it gave a different experience than just drinking, eating, and listening to music. There is a café here but I have never had the food there. I don't know if MPE has stepped their game up by offering sweet white wine or not, but if not then they're missing out on a large customer base. read more

Went there on a very slow Tuesday afternoon, terrible and rude staff, cold food and $12.50 for 3oz of sub standard wine. $3.00 for bottled water. I was visiting one of the locals in town who was scolded for not hearing her buzzer go off for her food. This woman is 90yrs old and wears a hearing aide. Instead of the so called waiter scolding her on this non busy day he could have been a gentleman and brought her the lunch. On the upside, the place is beautiful. read more

Fine Nortons and more! Augusta, MO is America's first viticultural / wine region, established as such before even Napa, in 1980.   Mt. Pleasant was the first winery to re-open in Augusta, in 1966, and is the second to have reopened after Prohibition and is currently the third largest brewery in the state. The town often closes around 5pm, but the first two Fridays in December, Augusta hosts Candlelight Christmas Walks, when the restaurants, stores/shops, and wineries  stay open until 9 or 10 pm, and the streets are lined with luminaria (see augusta dash chamber dot org).  And the Mt. Pleasant tasting room was open. The gentleman host was quite helpful when we visited, sharing wine and more. Norton is the Missouri state grape, brought to our state by Dr. Norton, who started cultivating them in Virginia.   (Correcting the original post with additional facts I have since learned) As noted by MissouriWine.org in January, 2018, in its posting "Norton- The Story of an All-American Wine" (https://missouriwine.org/news/norton-story-all-american-wine) "1818-1822 - Dr. Daniel Norborne Norton, an avid horticulturist working with many grape varieties and experimenting with crossing different breeds, developed the grape that would become his namesake in Richmond, Virginia." And, as noted by Feast Magazine in its April 27, 2018 issue, in "The Long and Tangled History of Norton, Missouri's State Grape" (http://www.feastmagazine.com/drink/features/article_01a36b3e-47da-11e8-bc15-17c258412c5f.html) "One day - probably in the fall of 1821, ... Dr. Norton ... came across something strange at Magnolia Farm. He found grapes that were neither European Vitis vinifera nor Vitis aestivalis, a native species he had planted nearby. As he would later explain, a few years earlier, he had cross-pollinated Bland, a musky native grape, with a European variety, probably Pinot Meunier. However, when pollinating by hand, he didn't use the now-common method of securing a bag over the flower to prevent unwanted pollination, and some Vitis aestivalis got involved. Norton's Virginia Seedling was born. As noted by Charlie Brennan (KMOX) in his book, "Amazing St. Louis," in 1870, just after the Civil War, the French champagne crop was being destroyed by pests. Charles V. Riley grafted Norton vines to the French champagne vines, which saved them from disease - "they proved to be the only reliable way to end the grape devastation in France. Riley received the French Grand Gold Medal and was named a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor We have liked Norton wines for many years and came to appreciate them several years ago at a Norton Festival at the Missouri History Museum.  While we sampled many wines at those events, we liked Bethlehem Valley the best. Bethlehem Valley wines are only available at the Mt. Pleasant Winery, and Mt. Pleasant makes the wine for Bethlehem Valley, so we were looking forward to restocking this evening. We have come to appreciate Riedel wine glasses over the past year, learning at some events that their shape affects how you drink the wine, which impacts where the wine "lands" on your tongues, improving their flavor.  They really work amazingly well. When we asked, the host nice poured the Nortons, and the Vignoles in to their respective Riedel Norton glasses. The Mt. Pleasant Norton, 2013, was incredibly nice, and yet the 2009 Bethlehem Valley was nicer.  The host shared that, yes, both are from similar grapes grown just a couple miles apart... the Bethlehem Valley is tastier because it has aged for another four or so years. Vignoles is another nice Missouri wine, a white wine.  Riedel also makes a varietal-specific glass for Vignoles.  We sampled the Mt. Pleasant Vignoles, and it is quite fine, so we brought home some bottles of Mt. Pleasant's Vignoles, too. Mt. This was our first visit to Augusta post Pandemic, on the Sunday before Memorial Day. Prior to the pandemic, we had eaten in several places in and around Augusta, visited wineries, stayed in a B&B and shopped there. We had spent the morning hiking in nearby Klondike Park, and we were scouting the town for lunch possibilities in a few weeks when we will have family visiting. This was the second place we tried for lunch. Many times prior to the pandemic, we had enjoyed a light lunch at Mt. Pleasant, sometimes with wine and sometimes without. As we walked through the tasting room towards the "Appellation Cafe," a staff member informed us that no food was served there, but there might be some snack food. They did have wine, he said. So we left. Most of Augusta is dead, dead, dead. We stopped in Defiance, but no place we tried was open there either. It will probably be a long time before we visit Augusta, which is a shame. read more

It wasn't until my third time out to the wineries in Augusta that I discovered this place, which is probably due to the fact that it is a little further away than Chandler Hill or Montelle. Wish I had known about it sooner! As other reviewers have pointed out, they are EXTREMELY generous with their pours. You get 2 ounces of wine per pour for five wines, which certainly explains why they charge $7 per tasting. Given that our tour started out here, I split the tasting with my husband so I wasn't drunk leaving the place. We really enjoyed the Tawny Port so we got a bottle of that. I would definitely recommend this wine if you're into tawny ports, but if you don't like strong sweet wines, then you should probably steer clear. No worries though! They have tons of really good wines to choose from. They also have different tastings as well. I've done both the dry and sweet tastings (both were great). I really enjoyed the man who served us and think this is a good place to come if you don't know much about wine as their attendants seem to be able to answer questions effectively without making you feel foolish for not knowing the basics. If you're shy and a beginner, their website offers a lot of useful tips about wine tasting. I will say that if they're super busy, the tasting is less informative because the tasters seem to be running around trying to serve tons of people. Therefore, if you want more of an experience, I would start my morning off here (before the crowds come). After the tour and tasting, they have a cafe for lunch. We didn't eat there so I can't say much about it. Finally, I would highly recommend their tour. You learn more about the winery itself and get to go underground. The tour is free and they gave us some beer/wine on our way out (not sure if they normally do that). We were lucky to have the owner give the tour one time and he was fantastic! The tour was the right amount of time and might be the best tour of a winery I've been on thus far. The owner was willing to stay afterwards to answer additional questions, which was nice. When I met up with him later at the tasting bar, I found out that they have a $12 champagne that the St. Louis Cardinals always use to celebrate (named 10 bucks). A nice alternative to some of their more expensive wines. read more

I'm not a wine-drinker...period. Just not my thing. But Mount Pleasant Estates offers a lot! I went there on a lazy Friday afternoon during my day-long road trip out to the west. Besides the wine, there's the restaurant (Appellation Cafe). I ate there for lunch, and it wasn't too bad. I had a cheeseburger and apple fennel coleslaw (the other side option was kettle chips, but I decided to go with something different). It was overpriced, but you gotta understand as they are far away from the city and the villages. While I'm not much of a fan of coleslaw, I gotta admit it was actually delicious as it was a cross between tangy, vinegar and creamy. Something I don't remember getting anywhere else. The workers there are very friendly and helpful. During the dead hours, any crew member can guide you throughout the winery. They'll even tell you stories, and give you reasons why people choose Mount Pleasant (Did you know? They are the Cardinals' wine supplier!). I must conclude with the views. There are so many along Route 94 in St. Charles County, but you must stop and spend a moment checking out the pretty sights outside MPE. read more

The new Hoffmann revamp of Mount Pleasant has got to be the most uninviting space I have been to. I am from the area and have been to many of the wineries prior to the new ownership. The new sorbet color scheme doesn't match the landscape well and as soon as you walk in, it feels cold. The walls and ceiling are stark white and there isn't anything on them. It most definitely takes way from the cozy and quaint vibe that the area has. Then there are the prices. The staff was fine, only a bit mundane. But the $15 tasting for 4 wines is a bit much and all of the wines are overpriced. They seemed eager to grab my wallet. I don't want to pay $38 for a mediocre bottle of Rośe. The cheapest bottle is $34 and we walked out because it honestly wasn't going to be worth our time or money. read more

Love this winery, great for a relaxing day out with good wine and delicious eats. Have also attended and worked a few weddings here as well. All of the staff are helpful, and accommodating. Nancy assisted with a few of the weddings I worked, and have attended, she is passionate, empathetic, and helpful like the rest of the staff here. Mount Pleasant has lots of real estate for events and views of the valley. If you're coming just for a meal, the wines are quite good but pricey, the food is just so-so, and they were a bit understaffed so expect a wait. Also, the tawny port here is amazing, so make sure you get the port flight (and maybe a bottle to take home!). read more

Here's a wishy-washy review. I wouldn't say that a trip to Mt. Pleasant is St. Louis area must-do, but I think you can have a little bit of fun here---if you keep your expectations in check. As other Yelpers have commented, Augusta is not Napa. Nor is it Sonoma. Nor is it Tuscany. If you want a pleasant country drive in pleasant country surrounds, then Mt. Pleasant should fill the bill. My mother, aunt, cousin and I spent a sunny, breezy Sunday afternoon sipping some so-so chardonnay. The wine loosened the older ladies' tongues, and my cousin and I pressed them for some juicy tales from our family tree--with much success! I paid $20 to reserve a table for lunch---I wanted to be sure that Mom had a place to sit during the entertainment. Lunch surprised me-----I was expecting a restaurant with table service, particularly because I paid to reserve a table. Lunch was an order counter with a pick up window and plastic cutlery. Meh. The food was fine, not great, but adequate----turkey wraps, salads, and hamburgers all rated about a 7 out of 10. My aunt was pretty surprised that the $$ to reserve the table wasn't applied to the bill. I hadn't given that any thought, but once she mentioned it, it seemed like a reasonable expectation. However, it was not the case. Apparently, the reservation wasn't even necessary----there were open tables galore. Twenty bucks is not going to break me, but I did feel a little burnt by the charge. The vista from the winery patio was appealing, overlooking the.....CROPS. No, not grapevines...something else green. The disconnect was a little weird. We had fun, but I think it would take a lot to get me back---a great band, a party bus, or some other special event. On its own, "pleasant" isn't sufficiently compelling to merit a second helping. read more

I've been here many times and notice the crowds getting smaller and smaller. This winery offers beautiful views of the Missouri River valley. I like their wines. However, they need to offer a better selection of foods. There is a sign at the entrance banning outside food. I understand that. But when you get to the Appellation Cafe, you might be wondering where is the food? In the wine tasting room they were offering frozen pizzas for $15.00! The Cafe has a VERY limited selection, and really not much that goes with wine. How about cheese and crackers? If you have people sitting around drinking wine, they really need some food in their stomach, too. Their service in the Cafe is horrible. Slow, rude, and disinterested. The other thing that happened to ruin my experience there this weekend was people bringing their children to a winery. What for??? Toddlers running around, older kids with nothing to do.... Does every place need to offer "family" entertainment? Not a very satisfying visit this time. read more

While many of the other wineries don't charge for their tastings, this one does. I was bummed at first but then I saw how much each tasting actually was. It was almost a half a glass of wine per tasting! I enjoyed the wine but it would've been nice to see some bar stools or chairs to sit in while doing the tasting! After we did the tasting we went down to where the live music was and had a glass of wine and a dessert. The lady who was working in the little house was SO friendly and even gave me some tips for when I come back. The view from this part of the winery was amazing! read more

You must go here for the wine tastings! $5 for 5 different samples, totaling approx 2 glasses is a steal. Numerous style options and all very well developed (keep in mind this not Napa Valley). Samples are only provided in the entry hospitality room which gets quite crowded and sometimes rowdy. The excessive crowds keep the wait staff really busy and create a atmosphere similar to a crowded sports bar during a football game, preventing the ability to describe each wine and offer suggestions. If you want to learn about wines, production, and tasting you will not get the one-one attention here that other places offer. Mount Pleasant always earns a stop on our "winery day tours" simply for the tastings. Their port selection is great. If you want to sit on their patio, most of their bottles average approx $25, which is on the higher end for this area. No food or drinks can be brought in. read more

Of all the wineries in this beautiful area of Missouri, Mount Pleasant is one of my favorites. Not only is the location beautiful, but there's tons of places to lounge and enjoy your wine. They also have my favorite tasting option - $5 for 5 wines, plus chocolate goodies! These are pretty hefty pours, too - not a little tiny splash like some of the other wineries around here. Definitely worth the $5! The bottles of wine are pricier than what I would spend in the stores (hello, three-buck-chuck!), but $20-$30 isn't so bad once you sit back and enjoy the view with a lovely wine buzz. The hour-ish drive from the city is kinda a killer though, unfortunately too long to make coming here oh, I don't know - once a week? Even so, I'm already counting down til it's warm again, and I can sit on the patio with a glass of wine. read more
