Their sweet wines are only sold wholesale, and don't have them available for sampling or purchasing at the winery. How does this make any sense? As a result, we only paid $5 for five samples...so my wife could sample their wine. So, I stood around and watched her sample, watched the other people, looked around the room a bit all while waiting to move on to the next winery. So, don't waste your time coming here if you don't like dry wines. Perhaps...just perhaps someone from the winery will read this and change how they handle their sampling and on site resale. read more

We recently had our wedding at Mount Pleasant. Nancy is amazing. She was very quick to respond to all our questions and concerns, helped us plan our wedding and basically made our dream wedding happen! She was so helpful and made sure things went smoothly on the day of. I can't say enough good things about her. I've never heard of any other event coordinators being this incredibly nice and helpful. I highly highly recommend this place if you're planning a wedding or event not only because of the beautiful views, but because Nancy will help make your life so much easier during the planning process. read more

There are a few ridiculous negative reviews of this place. Special events? Forget reviewing places fairly then... events suck in terms of service an quality at most places... unless event are all they do. Don't like dry wines? How is that a reason to review a place badly if the dry wines are good? That is not right. So here is a fair review. : ) I have been coming here for years. The place has become larger as they have cobbled a few more buildings in. They have a shop, the Crush Lounge, the tasting room, and an event hall. The setting here is beautiful and there is plenty of room to roam around and find a place to sip and enjoy wines. The wines have really progressed over the past 10 years as well. They buy familiar varietals grown California and make wine here with them. They even try to blend some with midwestern varietals. The wines here are all pretty good. They are not cheap, though. Norton here is a $30 bottle. Norton at Augusta Winery is less than half of that. At Costco that bottle is $12. You get the picture. If you really like it, buy it. The tastings are worth the price... 5 for $5 or 10 for $10. You can share with you beloved, as the pours are ample enough to split. It seems like if someone has only been to one Augusta Winery, this is the one they always go to. Now, admittedly, this place is no Napa Valley. But, lets remember, this is not the wine making capital of the world or even the country and you realize, hey, this a pretty good winery in a damn beautiful setting. This is probably one of the most peaceful and relaxing places a person can spend a day in Missouri. It's absolutely beautiful at Mount Pleasant. The hills roll beneath you, the river isn't far away and it's so quiet you can actually have a real conversation with whoever you chose to spend your day with. This place is massive as well and lends itself to a variety of afternoons. You can sit outside and peacefully sip wine, take the tour, or book a room and have a party with your friends and family. It's really your choice. I have always thought it would make a beautiful wedding setting, not that I am planning on that anytime in the near future, but why not spread my good taste and give others ideas. The wine, like I said, is no Napa Valley quality. However, it really is pretty good wine and you can easily plow through bottle upon bottle while sitting on the deck enjoying your afternoon. The only problem with this place? The drive home after you have been sitting on that deck drinking said wine all afternoon. Things can get a little touch and go from there. Augusta is a gorgeous setting for having an afternoon of near bliss despite the fact that Missouri isn't known for having the "best" wines in the country. Mount Pleasant is my favorite winery in the area, and I have been here for several celebratory occasions as well as the average Saturday with friends. Though I'm not sure how it would measure up with a true wine connoisseur, Ten Bucks is one of my absolute favorites. It is so good, in fact, that Mount Pleasant has banished the sale & deemed it unsafe for purchase. The provocateur? Giddy, disorderly bridesmaids... mostly. Apparently, it is a favorite of young women celebrating their friends' upcoming nuptials, and they like to drink in mass quantity. After said (over) indulgence, these adorable bachelorettes cause problems. Bottom line, you can purchase this sweet inebriant in most stores in the St Louis area, but no longer enjoy it at the source of harvest. What makes this winery my favorite? The brilliant pairing with Bissinger's Chocolates... I. Die. You enter the breezy reception hall, and make your way to the 360 degree wooden bar. A helpful sommeliers explain that you are able to sample 5 wines (accompanied by the perfect Bissinger's chocolate) for $5. Maybe (Probably) I'm a light weight when it comes to alcohol, but the 5 samples are enough to leave me feeling very bubbly and happy. I was lucky enough to go to a beautiful wedding here a few weeks ago, and it was a picture perfect choice for a memorable night... We watched the gorgeous couple exchange their vows while overlooking the aesthetic finery that is this venue. The food was excellent, we were indoors so the chill in the air was okay for the walk. we got to see most of the grounds since the building the buffet was in, was in the very back. Sometimes you go to places for the overall experience and not just for a specific thing. For instance, the wine is not groundbreaking here. As a matter of fact, the one I did enjoy was the Vignoles, which is a comparable mix to Pinot Grigio and Chenin Blanc. I usually enjoy reds but my fav here so happens to a white. Cool. The tasting was $6 for 5. That's fine. The pickup counter cafe wasn't screaming with options either - a few salads and sandwiches. But hey, the French dip sandwich and Caesar salad I did have was pretty good. Add a bottle of Vignoles, and we were good. Now what makes Mount Pleasant great to me is the scenery. The whole drive on HWY 94 is just beautiful. The winery backdrop is something like a painting. Pair that with patio seating and a breeze and it makes for a perfect afternoon getaway. The band was the icing on the cake. With expectations in check, I'll definitely be back in the cooler summer/fall months. You should definitely give them a try too. read more

Didn't know what to expect for my first time at a winery. But overall me and babe enjoyed out visit. The $6 for 5 wine tasting is very reasonable, even though some wineries offer free tastings, but I'm ok with the price. Good thing is with the wine tastings they offer explanations behind food pairings, and history of wine. Also the cafe is pretty tasty. The food is cooked to order and is well prepared by a chef. Mount Pleasant Estates is a beautiful venue for weddings and private events. The scenic views are absolutely stunning! We had a wedding at Mount Pleasant Estates and we were very impressed with the Wedding Coordinator, Nancy Cozart! She did a wonderful job planning, coordinating and executing every detail for the wedding. She clearly goes above and beyond for weddings and events! If we could give more than five stars we would! Mt. Pleasant Winery is one of the more beautiful wineries in the Augusta area. It is also one of the biggest, which is important when everyone and their mother flock to the winery in certain times of the year and you can barely find a space at other wineries that's big enough to put down your feet. There is a big hill out in the back and a large wooden patio. There is always a band covering crowd favorites from the 80s and 90s. The wine had never been memorable here. The last time we went, we got two bottles of whites and a red. All were beyond mediocre. The whites were better than the Norton, which actually tasted like bum wine...yikes! BUT at end of the day, who really cares about the quality of wine on such outings... read more

I like the facility. The tasting room was spacious, nicely appointed, and designed. the server did tell us about the various varietals of grapes and sweet/dry aspect of the wine. She wasn't particularly engaging though. They charged $7 for tasting 5 wines. Wasn't wild about that. I was also felt that the wine was overpriced, but I was with a group and along for the ride. The patio / outside seating was very nice and the view was magnificent. Again we were not allowed to bring in our own food as we can in the Herman wineries. They had a band that Sunday. This place has fallen so far. They just can't seem to get it together even with the money of the new owners. The tasting room is so corporately generic, it looks like they just slapped white paint on everything. The patio is in disrepair, uneven in many parts. The patio furniture has not been updated in a very long time. Their attempts at a cafe have failed multiple times, now they offer Sugarfire. BBQ doesn't really go with most the wines they sell. We went for a special tasting they offered and promoted on their website. When we got there the guy at the wine station said he knew nothing about the wines, he has no clue as to what was going on in terms of the special event and he was working the event. Can you say total mismanagement? We left and went to Chandler Hill and it was night and day. Chandler Hill had a great crowd and the staff was amazing, so organized and the place was immaculate and well maintained. So we spent the money at Chandler Hill we had planned on spending at Mount Pleasant. Chandler Hill provides real glasses for wine at no charge and sells wine by the glass. Mount Pleasabt will only provide plastic cups at no charge and only sells Missouri wine. read more

I came here for the first time in a few years, and boy have they grown up. The quality of wine for the Missouri level has significantly improved. The poor quality, sweet whites of the past have evolved into dryer, more sophisticated offerings. There are more reds, and they are becoming consistently better as well. Mt Pleasant even has a Cabernet, a nice change of pace from the standard Missouri Norton. Both ports- the tawny and vintage- were good, just not my thing. Our tasting server was knowledgeable, patient, and funny. The prices are a bit high for the quality of the wine, but you are paying for the view, entertainment, and overall experience. Speaking of the view, it's spectacular...a wide open vista overlooking a farming valley, the Katy Trail, and the beautiful winery grounds and buildings. The other wineries in the area are beautiful as well, but not the same type of view. There is a nice, large patio and regular entertainment. The onsite food is the only drawback. The sandwiches, salads, and wraps are just average, and you cannot bring your own food in as with other local wineries. A small surcharge to bring in your own food would even be a better choice...the option of $2 a person with their own food or something... I now have more hope for the future of Missouri wines! read more

They use a lot of Cali grapes. I don't know if I like that or not. It provides a lot of different styles if you've been jumping around tasting norton and vignoles all day, but it also doesn't feel as local. They charge $5 bucks or so for tastings, but they are HUGE. You get around 2 full glasses or more. This is definitely the location to go to if you just want to get drunk cheaply. If you are moving around to different wineries I would save this until the end, or you won't remember the other ones. Overall: not a bad place read more

This place does not care about its customers at all. Jim, who is the manager is completely rude and charged us double cover charge to see the band. Plus he kept threatening to fire the person that told me the table reservation included the cover charge. The wine is ok but very expensive and it took forever to get food and the people working there are less than pleasant when taking orders. To top it all off they don't even recycle all those glass wine bottles. There are so many other choices for wineries and I will never go back there. read more

We visited Augusta for the first time and Mount Pleasant Estates was our last stop. It's a very pretty winery with music and plenty of seating. We chose to do the wine tasting and shared it since the sample size is so large. It was $10 for 5 tastings and you got to keep the glass. I have to say I was not impressed with any of the wines. First, they really only have dry wines and I lean more towards semi-dry or semi-sweet, but I'm always up to try to develop the taste for dry. My boyfriend on the other hand, generally likes dry wines and he too said there wasn't one that he thought was good. We both agreed that none of the 5 that we tried really had much flavor. Just really disappointed to spend $10 and not like anything. We had high hopes. But not everyone has the same tastes so try it out for yourselves and decide. read more

I would give zero stars if that was an option. My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception at Mount Pleasant Estates. Months leading up to the wedding were just fine because we truly believed Nancy Cozart would deliver on everything she promised. Boy were we wrong! The venue is FILTHY! The night of our rehearsal dinner there were so many gnats in the tasting room I was mortified. Gnats floating in everyone's drinks, in our faces, and the outdoor area was pitch black. Nancy promised that would be fixed by the next day (wedding day) and guess what. NOPE! Was still pitch black when all our guests left the reception in the pouring rain. Back it up some though..the day of the wedding Nancy continuously dropped the ball. She promised the winery patrons would be gone by ceremony time. NOPE! They were all still there drunk as can be. So in our wedding video all you hear and the drunk customers feet away from where out ceremony was held. Then it's reception time. BEFORE THE RECEPTION STARTED WE RAN OUT OF LIQUOR. yes you read that right. Nancy's excuse was the daytime crowd drank it all. WHY IS THE PUBLIC DRINKING OUR ESTATES BAR PACKAGE THAT WE PAID DEARLY FOR? Inexcusable. In addition all the China was dirty prior to the reception so the catering company we hired had to hand wash all the dishes bc the dishwasher was broken! The bathrooms smelled so bad that my husband purchased air fresheners for both the ladies and men's room. Of course we can't forget the massive amounts of gnats in the reception hall as well. Pleeease if you are a bride or groom and want the wedding of your dreams do not use mount pleasant estates. The only good thing that came out of our day there was I got to marry my best friend. We ended up taking mount pleasant to small claims court and thank goodness the judge ruled in our favor so we could get some kind of closure to that horrific experience. The owner does not care about anything other than getting your money. He didn't even give us back the $500 deposit they said would be returned after the wedding. So again thank goodness for the judge and court system. Mount pleasant is an absolute disgrace and neither myself nor any of the 200 guests that were at our wedding will ever return there. read more

We just got married at this winery (9/26/14) and had the most awesome experience!! We could not be happier with how everything turned out. We were treated like family every time we came out to the winery. We did have 3 different event coordinators over the course of our engagement and planning (since last fall), but apparently this happens in the business. Everything still ran very smoothly, and our last and current coordinator, Whitney, did an awesome job at making sure everything was set up and keeping in touch with us before the wedding. The transition was seamless. In regards to our wedding package, we changed many things around and switched parts out because we did not want to use certain package details. Whitney was very accommodating and patient with us as we made our decisions on how to perfect our wedding. We also had our rehearsal luncheon here, and Whitney was great with that as well. She was very attentive during this and the wedding, ensuring that we had everything we needed at all times. Even though we met Whitney soon before our wedding date, we trusted her and felt confident that she had everything under control. We would highly, HIGHLY recommend Mount Pleasant to anyone looking for a beautiful venue to get married at, or just visit on a nice day. Their wine is fantastic - especially the port wines! Went for my birthday this past Saturday to see Jakes Leg. My girlfriend and friend from out of town were more than happy to pay the$5 cover charge to enjoy the music and scenery. That's the only positive. $30 a bottle for the Norton wine is almost as insulting as the janky $15 frozen pizza that was barely cooked. I've traveled around the country. I've lived near Virginia's Charlottesville/Monticello wine country and have toured many wineries in the Northwest, West, Mid-West, South, East Coast, and New England. I've never had better wines or a better experience at any winery more than at Mount Pleasant Winery in Augusta, Missouri! The servers are outstanding. The wines are delicious and complex. It was also nice to have pairing selected to accompany and enhance the wine. The views from the winery are breathtaking (especially in Autumn). Mount Pleasant, you are the BEST! SALUD! CHEERS! My husband and I were married at Mount Pleasant last weekend and cannot say enough good things about the fantastic experience we had. The coordinator, Whitney Brickner, is absolutely incredible. She was hired after we had already booked our wedding, and boy were we glad she came on! We learned about Mount Pleasant primarily through the internet. We knew that we wanted to pick a venue where the ceremony and reception could be held in one location. I knew that a winery could give us both of those things and would provide a picturesque background to accompany the convenience factor. I did some research online and stumbled across Mount Pleasant. We came for a visit and were blown away by the facilities. When my fiance commented on how beautiful everything was, I knew we had found the place. The overall services were excellent! We cannot say enough good things about Whitney's planning services. From almost daily email correspondence/phone conversations to her attention to detail, she was wonderful to work with at every turn. The ceremony space is beautiful and their recommendation of TKO for dj services and ceremony sound made everything flow smoothly. In a dream world, ceremonies would be able to start earlier but given the openness to the public on weekends, this is completely understandable and by no means a deal-breaker. The food was simply amazing (the dates wrapped with bacon...omg). We received lots of compliments on the quality of the food served at both our rehearsal dinner and reception. And although we ordered off the menu for the reception, the willingness to accommodate any other requests we may have had was greatly appreciated. Bar service was also excellent. All of our guests felt well taken care of, and that they had a guide (that wasn't me!) they could turn to in case they had questions. The scenery at Mount Pleasant Estates made a beautiful background for our ceremony and reception. Having lots of lassitude to utilize the JB suite as well as the Terrace Ballroom and Deck made everything flow smoothly. I can't think of a single thing that didn't go according to plan. After a long and rude talk with the manager I decided to write a review about our experience getting married at this winery. The manager who told us that we never should have been allowed to get married there. That we weren't charged enough, and tried to accuse us of stealing because we brought our wine glasses up to the patio. Obviously, there is no standard of customer service here, at all. This is one of the most important days of my life.... thanks for treating it as such. We visited the winery and approached the event coordinator, Mark, and explained that we would like a small and intimate wedding ceremony in the morning with a small group (7) of close friends and family. He said this was fine. Although he was completely unwelcoming, and just borderline rude, treating us as if we weren't worth his time bc we just wanted some small insignificant wedding. BUT the place is beautiful so we decided to go with it. We chose to rent the small gazebo and requested via email a table cloth, 3 bottles of wine (required which was no big deal. We ended up buying about 10 total and meals), the fixings for mimosas with a bottle of champagne, he said he would bring flutes for that as well, cake plates and flatwear with napkins, and a vase for my flowers. All set up by 11:00. He offered us a reasonable price. Keep in mind, we basically just used the arbor for 15 minutes and paid to rent the gazebo.... What could possibly go wrong with such a simple set up? We're paying customers, so I guess I wrongly expected to be treated as such. Nothing was set up by 11:00. In fact, we arrived at 10:45 and were locked out. We had to bang on the door until the nice (I think) groundskeeper came and let us in. We had to explain to him what was going on. He had no idea. We walk outside, and nothing is set up on the gazebo. At about 11:05 we get a table cloth on, then one at a time they are driving down in a gator setting things up, so we're standing around waiting for them so we could get married. After our short ceremony, still no plates, napkins, water, or champgne flutes, a small carton of orange juice about 1/4 full, not enough chairs. We start scrambling to find chairs and get the basics so we can begin celebrating and enjoying our day. In their defense, he said that would could get a private server for an additional fee, which i absolutely should have done, but I really didn't think that such a simple set up could be so botched. After all this, there was a larger wedding going on that day as well, where several of the wedding party approached us and told us congratulations and said that they could not get any help either! and these people spent $$thousands on their wedding here!! They were also extremely frustrated. We've been told by other friends who have visited the site for their wedding as well that Mark (the event coordinator) was completely rude and horrible to them as well. My whole family, and my new husband's family is in the Washington area and I can assure you none of them will ever use this place for an event again.
