When we arrived to the ER we were told my sister was very dehydrated and febrile- it took over an hour for them to give her IV saline and Tylenol- these are a no-brainer!! Both the doctor and nurse barely acknowledged her , and couldn't even be bothered for a pillow ("I'm too busy right now."). I am confused by their treatment, but the doctor is nowhere to be seen so I can't even ask. There are several empty beds near us so its not even that busy. Very unsatisfied. read more

It took them about 45 minutes to come and change blankets after she soaked on her own vomit. I let is go simply because she needs to recover. Today SUNDAY JULY 9TH 2017. My mother was crying because she was sitting in the bed without her gown. They wouldn't clean her bed. The aid was giving her attitude and she finally put her gown with one usable hand with All the medical attachments she nurses aid taunted her by with sarcastic smile and signaling that she is not gonna help. I drove like crazy to find out she was having heart attack they sending her to Manhattan. When she able to speak she said the nursing aid caused it. This is the shortest version. I say about half the nurses are good other half is lazy, just there to collect paychecks. Just look around u will see them. Lazy, and looking for ways to put their patients down. WHO KNEW?!?! The last place you ever want to be is in an emergency room or hospital. I didn't even realize that Mount Sinai had a hospital so close to me in Queens. A friend of mine was sick and I took him to their emergency room. I was expecting the worst but was very pleasantly surprised. What surprised me was how caring everyone seemed to be. From the admin people to nurses and orderlies and doctors. They gave us a postcard that told us who our doctor was and the nurse assigned to him and how long we might have to wait. They said it could be 4 or 5 hours, so we were prepared to wait. Every hour they came to check on him and update us on progress. We were in and out of the ER within 2 or 2 1/2 hours. In that time he was seen by a nurse and a physician. We left with a prescription and instructions on what to do. Within 2 days he was back to normal. I was so impressed I even called to find out how I could donate. It's nice to know that I have a Mount Sinai just a few blocks from home in Queens. read more

I went to the emergency room on 1/21/15 and I am very happy for the care I received. Everybody was very professional and Dr Levine treated me with respect and explained everything about my illness. on 3/3/15 I had surgery and again everybody was very professional and took care of my condition. I am very satisfied with Mount Sinai and I recommend them very highly. read more

The absolute worst place to be if you're in actual need of emergency medical assistance. A while back I came here after sustaining an injury that required 20+ stitches. I waited in the lobby for around 30 minutes, standing up, leaking blood on their pretty little floor, before I was even given a chair to sit in. It took another 45 minutes before I was placed in a room, and another 20 minutes before I was stitched. Nothing like bleeding out in a lobby while the majority of the staff just dicks around. Horrible stitch job too, btw, but I can't really expect much from a doctor who looks like he just graduated kindergarten while a senior doctor walks in and says "Oh wow. You're still here? I should've stitched you an hour ago". Yeah, thanks, Dick. Anyway, looks like not much has changed. My mother was sent here by her doctor, who's affiliated with the hospital, because her blood pressure was 220/160. It took them over an hour to give her any sort of medication to lower her blood pressure. Over the next 15 hours they took her for 3 cat-scans, one X-ray, and then just endless amounts of waiting before being brought upstairs to a room. Oh, her vitals monitor battery died and it took more than an hour for them to come in and fix that. They also pay no attention to any beeping or blinking lights. Extremely elevated heart rate and blood pressure? Don't worry! You're fine! Extremely low blood oxygen and extremely high blood co2? Don't worry! You're fine! Anyway, before they placed us in a room upstairs, we were fortunate enough to have them bring in a young lady coughing up yellow phlegm and complaining of every strep throat and flu symptom possible to put next to us. Oh, and the nurse said it was fine to take off her surgical mask because if it made her uncomfortable then she, the nurse, would put one on instead. Great job. A1. It's not like there's two other individuals in the room who don't want to contract whatever sickness she's coughing into the atmosphere. But hey, at least the nurse had a WONDERFUL solution. She said "well, we don't know what she has yet so if you want, I can give you masks to wear if that makes you feel better". So intelligent. Let's tell the sick person to take their mask off and then tell the other occupants of the room, who don't have a potentially contagious illness, and who have been waiting there for over 15 hours that they should put the surgical masks on instead. BRILLIANT! All that fancy medical schooling and you still lack common sense. I love it. Especially since you mentioned you don't currently know what her ailment is. Nothing like having high blood pressure and catching whooping cough, smallpox, polio, and the zombie virus all in one splendid visit to Mount Sinai. For your own well-being, do not come here unless it's truly you're last resort. read more

Went to see an optometrist (Dr. Elena Schmidt) last August 8 with no referral. I called their billing department as well as my insurance prior and was told that I don't need one. My husband went today for the same doctor. They asked him for a referral from PCP and when he told them that I was there last month without one they are asking for my referral now, to be backdated! What kind of crap is that??!!! Btw, I called my insurance again and once again was told that we don't need any referral either from them or from PCP to see an optometrist! For ophthalmologist, yes! But that lady in the doctor's office still insisted! I hope she knows what she's doing. read more

If I could have given this hospital a -3 I would have. I came to the local hospital due to my husband having a severe ear infection. We got there and was taken into the rooms at the ER quickly. The nurses came and did what they had to do. 5 hrs we were there and finally when we saw the ER DR my husband asked him when will he be seen. THE ER DR said he doesn't have time for him and that he won't be seen. WTH is that!!!! So we walked out. Ended up going from LIC to Long Island Jewish (new Hyde park) where he was treated and kept for 3 days!!!! I also know someone who was physically attacked and went to the ER to be treated for back pains. They looked at her and said the ER DR REFUSED to see her!!!! After confronting him he said from what he saw on the paper it could be muscles spams to take Motrin. How on earth do you go to an ER where they refuse to see you!!! I wouldn't waste my time ever coming here and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!!!!!! read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS ER If I could give this hospital's ER zero stars I would. Other than the building being nice, I have nothing nice to say about this hospital and its workers. My visit in March was late at night and to my dismay after urgent cares have closed. The overnight staff here was horrendous. Both of my eardrums almost burst and the nurses and staff kept yelling at me to pee in a cup and that I was only hurting myself. Their bedside manner was terrible; they instead should be behind a desk and have no interaction with people. After several hours, I was finally able to go home. I was not billed for my stay until July and I paid that in full. I then receive a different bill in August for twice that amount. I call the customer service and am told with an attitude, "it's not our problem, you need to call your insurance." I called my ins company and they were more than happy to explain what they could, but said that an itemized list of what was billed would have to come from the hospital. I called the hospital's customer service back and the second woman was even more of a treat than the first. She barked at me that I need to read my insurance's explanation of benefits and I told her I first need to know what I was billed for because their billing dept has failed to make that clear to either me or my ins. She then barked again at me that an itemized list would be in the mail today and hung up on me. Next time I'll wait until my eardrums burst overnight and go to an urgent care in the morning. read more

My mom was having trouble breathing & went here by ambulance on Monday night, 10/4/2021. I accompanied her in the ambulance and the EMTs misinformed me by telling me to get a Visitors pass at the main entrance front desk & then I would be able to go into the ER. The main entrance is around the corner from the ER entrance which have ridiculous bike lanes in front (dumb move!) Front desk tells me to get a pass from security at the ER entrance. Had to again walk back around the corner. The security guard informed me I could not go in due to COVID restrictions & I said my mom is in there, brought by ambulance. He gives me a business card saying I had to call the ER which I was standing in front of. I called & they were busy checking her in, told me to call in 1/2 hr. I did & they told me I could not go in & they took my information. So I went home. In the craziness of getting mom to the ER I forgot to give her cell phone. My mom borrowed a cell from someone & she was able to call me saying she was in the ER. I was able to visit her the next day, Tues 10/5/21. We hadn't been in that ER over 16 yrs & it is nicely renovated. Was amazed at the change. They had a hefty donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. At first Mom was happy w/ the facility, her area in the ER looked like a regular room. Room Was a bit dirty, hair on the floor, dust all over & needed a good cleaning. There was a Clorox wipe dispenser in the room that was empty. However I brought my own, cleaned the remote & armrests of the bed. To have the patient sit up, there is a heavy metal bar to adjust, not a remote like at other hospitals. She was waiting for a team of cardiologists & an echocardiogram all day Tuesday & no one showed up. Because of this, she had to stay another night in the ER. She'd press the remote for help but I had to go into the hall & ask for a nurse. I understand the nurses are super busy. On Tues 10/5/2021 when I visited her in the ER, I had given her the cell phone to call me anytime. I got a frantic call from her Wed morning, 10/6/2021 at 1:30am telling me she's leaving the hospital now, & for me to pick her up immediately and she would explain when I picked her up. She was on 30th Ave & Crescent St. Luckily We're a short drive away. I raced over & picked her up. She was very upset & angry (83 yrs old). They woke her up at 10pm to finally get this echocardiogram. They wheeled her to another area & left her there for 2 hrs, forgetting about her. She would ask staff passing by & they ignored her. Finally a nasty worker told her that her room was given to a Covid patient, they didn't know where they were going to put her & wheeled her to a small room, curtained off between 2 men. One who had diahrrea on himself & all over the floor & the other a smelly homeless passing horrible gas who was coughing. They placed my mom in between these men, they refused to wear masks. At this point my mom was disgusted & angry. When they finally came to take her for this test, she refused & said she was leaving ASAP! They told her she couldn't leave & to sign forms leaving against medical advice. She did not sign the forms & walked out. What a horrible experience for an 83 yr old woman! Very disappointed w/ Mt Sinai of Queens. I fear for the state of healthcare today. God help us all!! read more

I'm surprised by the 2 star review. It's actually the reason I never went there when I was pregnant with my son. I really wanted to go somewhere close to home but the reviews is what deterred me from taking that step forward. I ended up going to Weill Cornell Presb for prenatal and had my baby there. Anyway, recently I had to see an Endocrinologist and I couldn't find one who accepted my insurance and was close to home so I had to settle with Mount Sinai. I was very nervous at first because I thought I'm going to have a terrible experience with the front desk staff (At hospitals I've always dealt with very rude, bitchy front desk staff) I was worried that my Doctor will be careless and in a hurry. (Based on past experiences at hospitals...AND the reviews on yelp). As it turns out my assumptions was completely WRONG! First of all the building seems brand new, its so clean! And the view of Astoria! LOVE IT. Takes away the anxiety of going to the Doctors. It wasn't a "crowdy" hospital like Bellevue (which I've been going to since the day I was born there!). The Endo clinic front desk guy was patient and was accommodating. I got called into the room fairly quick, medical assistant was very sweet. I saw Dr. Yasmin Khan after several minutes of waiting and she was just incredible!!!! She took the time to explain everything, was really impressed by how she established a friendly rapport by taking the time to fully address my concerns in detail. I am the kind of person who needs to be able to have a great conversation about my health challenges and possible remedies. She was very open to questions and we had a wonderful discussion. She's very well informed and current with her knowledge. I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants to have a endo doctor who truly and sincerely cares. I enjoyed my visit and feel confident I am in safe hands. I'm actually in the process of changing my PCP from Manhattan to this place. I hope I have the same great experience with my new PCP at Mount Sinai like I did with the Endocrinologist. Looking forward to meeting my new Doctor :-) read more

Brought my 2 little one's to Mt Sinai in Astoria - Never again! So unorganized, the wait time is ridiculous and it was one of the dirtiest hospitals I have ever been too, definitely top 5. I hated the fact that they put my 4 year old & 8 month old baby who were already very sick in a corner that every sick person in the ER had to walk through. Next time I will just take the trip to Beth Israel where my children will be on a floor for CHILDREN and not for EVERY freaking sick person in the hospital. Thank you Mt Sinai for exposing my children to more infection... Yeah, do you hear the sarcasm in my voice? And do us all a favor. CLEAN the damn place, it was gross in there. Change the sheets! All of the time! All of the equipment needs to be cleaned and cleaned again because it's all so dirty. I can't even begin to imagine what the bathrooms in that place look like. Go anywhere else except for emergencies. The only part of this hospital that functions is the ER and the ER here functions well. However, every time I've had any work done in the other parts of the hospital, be it lab work or x rays, they have a real hard time getting it to my doctor after. NEVER GO TO THIS HOSPITAL. Bleeding from the neck? Apply some pressure. Think you are having an allergic reaction? Call an ambulance. Think you need your appendix out? Go elsewhere. How is zero stars not an option? My roommate was taken to this hospital by an ambulance and received the most substandard treatment imaginable. In fact it was so bad, that we walked out, with an IV in her arm, and went into Manhattan. Some of the mishaps include rude staff, who taunted my roommate for not knowing of other hospitals in Manhattan, and suggested that she really ought to be able to identify her pain better. The gurneys were so tightly jammed in the ER that you couldn't walk between them. The nurses barely spoke English, and couldn't remember who she was or why she was there. Also, one nurse was walking around loudly asking "Who is in charge around here?" Um, are you serious? Aren't you on staff? WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUCK. Needless to say, after the doctors suggested that they stop medicating my roommate's pain to ensure that it really was her appendix, we called a car and left. Listen: Hospitals are a hard place to be, regardless of what brings you there. But, I honestly don't think I've ever stepped foot into a more filthy, neglected, and run by absolute idiots who seriously look like they're sampling their own meds ER. At reception, we had the women fall ASLEEP on us, twice! Hello? Are you high Miss? Would you mind waking up while we're speaking to you? Is the ether wearing off? Weed? What are you ON!! We're here because of a medical situation! See pics-she straight was knocked OUT. We had under our seats, 1.) a dirty diaper lying on the floor, 2.) empty bottles, 2 of which were LIQUOR 3.) food remainants and 4.) an array of other junk littering the waiting area. Once inside, the assistant who takes your blood pressure encouraged the person ailing to pee in a cup, no wipes, no directions on where the bathroom is, nothing. NOT HYGENIC. And to top it off, no label was on the container. When we said ok, here'e the sample, she points to a cluterred pile of UNMARKED and UNNAMED containers piled up next to the sink, some of them LEAKING on each OTHER!!! Our repsonse? "Um, shouldn't this have a name on it, so you know, WHO this belongs too??" Her response "oh yeah sure", and she hands us a sharpie which since there's no label on it, won't leave a name legible. At this point, we began to second think stepping in the door. It's that GUT FEELING telling you to LEAVE kicking in. In the hallway waiting, multiple people, some drunk, some non responsive, NOT joking there, moaning and crying, which you'd expect, but what you don't expect is once you've waited a very long time and get a "room" in the ER is for those very people to pull back your curtain while you're getting changed and start talking to YOU. Jesus! Can you get your shit together SINAI!? Doctor shows up, half reads chart, gives feedback, and later as you go through your 5 MINUTE MEETING with this guy's bill, you see he "gave you medication", um, no, he certainly did NOT administer anything! And for that you get a charge of over $500!! NOT joking! So in short: if you can help it, get a train, a cab, a ride to ANY OTHER hospital besides this death trap. A place to go when the hobo down the street is seeing another patient My review is based on the ER and "Fast Track" Rooms Service/Knowledge: .5 Stars When in doubt go on your cellphone. Most of the staff in the "Fast Tack" room looked at/used their cell phone at least once during my last visit. After being called into the "Fast Track" room you are looked over by a nurse concerning your current ailments. After a bunch of standard questions they will leave you alone behind the curtain for 10-30 minutes depending on how busy they are and/or how long it takes for them to remember you are there. In my last visit they called a doctor to check on me. Since they didn't know what my condition was offhand. The doctor was uncertain as well so they went to the computer to research it. The doctor spoke with the nurses just outside the curtain (I could hear them loud and clear) discussing what I had and suggested some random prescription. The hilarious part was that after their conversation they didn't tell me anything until 20 minutes later where the nurse gave me the prescription. They left 2 patients waiting for x-rays (to my left and right) alone for at least 30 minutes. Not until they got up and asked about it were they taken to get the x-rays. One of them was getting her foot examined to boot. Professionalism at its finest. I went to a normal doctor the next day and I was told to completely disregard what was given to me at Mount Sinai since they didn't know what I had. Speed: .5 Stars After reading the reviews of the long wait time in the ER I feel like I've gotten off easy both times I arrived. Both my visited averaged about 3 hours being in and out of the hospital, however I waited in the ER about 1.5-2 hours each time and waited about an hour in the fast track area. In other words, of the about 6 hours I have been at Mount Sinai I have been in contact with a nurse/doctor for about 15-20 minutes at most. On both occasions there was less than 7 people waiting in the ER at the time, and not many following in afterwards. Cleanliness: 0 Stars Trash on the floors. I got pink eye after my first visit. I don't think I need to say anything else about that. Overall: 0 Stars Mount Sinai of Queens is an option that you should never have to utilize. The fact that I once left here with PINK EYE after only arriving with an ear infection should tell you how unsanitary this place really is. The staff is uncaring and lazy. They rather spend time on their cellphones than deal with other patients. The doctors lack of knowledge in most areas is rather disturbing. I had to wait a few days to cool down before writing this review and I still find it scathing. I personally believe that the majority of the staff in this hospital be terminated and be banned from finding work in the medical field. They are doing more harm than good. read more

Yiiikes. So, without going into too much detail - had to go to the ER Thursday night and was in need of immediate care. I attempted Urgent Care facilities first, because I've been to ERs before and knew the wait time would be awful, but none were open and I really just needed to get a doctor ASAP - I knew I basically just needed instant antibiotics. Anyway, went with a friend to this ER since it was the closest I could get to, signed in right away and was told it'd be a wait because they had a "busy night." This was apparent from the crowd of fragile, injured-looking patients, so I took a seat prepared to spend a few hours there. I was called in for basically a "what's wrong with you?" meeting with the man who was on call in the front room. He sighed as I came in and sat down, wincing in pain and out of it, and when I asked how he was said "Tired. Almost ready to go home!!" and proceeded to crack jokes as I told him what was going on with me. He breezed past my description of what was happening, gave me a urine sample cup, took the sample from me, and had me sit back down. In that time, of course, no one in the waiting room was seen. ... Three hours went by. My friend and I watched Conan, laughed together at some of the jokes, shivered in the alarmingly cold room, and watched as more and more patients arrived. Finally... ONE of the patients was called back to be treated. Then two more. Another hour went by - at this point it was past 1AM, and my condition was worsening. It wasn't a small matter - if it had been, I would have waited until 8am when the Urgent Care near my apartment opened. I knew I needed to be seen, so I went back to see if they could give me an ETA. "Sorry ma'am, it's a busy night. I can't tell you at this point." So, I sat back down, trying not to panic and considering going home. By the time 2am rolled around, and I'd been there for over 4 hours and 2 viewings of the same Conan episode, I was in so much pain my friend went into the hospital area and basically let them have it - only two or three patients had been seen in the entire time we'd been there, the waiting room was full of drunken, belligerent and uncontrolled people (how were there NO security guards in the room with us making sure everyone was safe?), we were all shivering and frozen, and I had a serious medical problem that was going untreated. She was told there were still 4 people ahead of me (which would've equaled 4 more hours of wait time, at least), but they showed me to a bed and finally did blood work and put me on an IV. When the doctor finally got to me, he was actually great - very quick and informative and helpful - but of course, "somehow we had no urine sample for you, can you do another one?" So, I went through the same tests I'd had upon arriving in the waiting room at 9:45PM, and spent the night on 2 IVs, finally leaving with the appropriate antibiotics at about 7 in the morning. I will do everything in my power never to go back there again, and I warn anyone who needs urgent medical attention to either go by ambulance, or go somewhere else! read more

My grandma went there a couple yrs ago was a staying patient n some1 who works there stole her engagement/wedding ring(it was made into 1 ring). As far as the care goes they don't seem to go out of their way,sucks if ur old n don't realize 2 press the stupid help button then again dunno if that would do any good. This hospital contributed to killing my father. I had to rush him here as he was suffering from cardiac arrest. Before they would see him, as he was gasping for his last breaths, dying on a stretcher, they required me to fill out paperwork before they would take him to the back. He was clearly dying on the stretcher having a massive heart attack yet the paperwork needed to be completed first. He died about 20 minutes later. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at this hospital. Everyone I encountered was really friendly. I've taken people to ER's at other hospitals in the past, received terrible services, and assumed all hospitals were awful. I was wrong. I went to ER at Mount Sinai in Queens around 3am in the morning. It was busy, but not too busy. I didn't receive attention immediately but there were other people ahead of me with bigger issues (ie. seizures). The doctors and nurses that tended to me were very kind. I was there for almost 10 hours. After a while, even nurses that were not assigned to me recognized me by face and knew I was waiting for a CT scan, w/o referring to any clipboard. I felt at ease and cared for the entire time. The people who worked there were genuinely nice people. read more

This is the worst hospital to go to. Staff is nice. Some doctors are okay. However, the treatment they give you only kills you. Once you go in, your chances of survival are low. They will do unbelievable amount of test which you may belong even need and tell you all the lie that you have been diagnosed with this or that. Don't believe in them at all. I was taken into the hospital when a friend found me unresponsive. I spent a few days in the ICU unit. I had apparently been suffering from pancreatitis (I thought it was food poisoning) and after a few days of only drinking Gatorade to keep hydrated, my body went into diabetic keto acidosis. I was in the ICU from Wednesday to Friday, and on the 4th floor after that until I got discharged on Monday. The doctors and nurses that I encountered were top notch. They exuded compassion and care, and truly listened to every question. They took a truly terrifying experience and helped me through it with an exemplary level of humanity. There was not one person that I encountered that didn't make me feel cared for. They are angels, and I don't understand the low ratings. To me, they are amazing. Truly what medical professionals should be. God bless them for helping me through this. They will always be in my prayers. read more

I would give this place negative stars. Avoid this "ER" at all costs if possible. You possibly die before even being seen by anyone. The front desk nurse "receptionist " was extremely rude. The conversations with others nurses were more important then their concern towards the patients. No one can answer any questions. The doctor was 5 mins with me and after I spent 3 hours waiting to be diagnosed, I left with antibiotics without no tests taken. I fell down the stairs at work, and the nearest hospital was this one, I had never been there before but I was familiar with it. My ankle was swollen and I had a huge black and blue, I had to be wheel chaired into the hospital since I could not walk what's so ever. The wait was long but not to bad, the doctor who saw me paid a large amount of attention to me, I really appreciated it, he gave me an x-Ray and once realizing it was a sprained ankle he gave me two boots, one just in case it broke and the other for use. He also gave me crutches, overall it was all very useful, I thank him and I'm glad I was okay. read more

I do not have extensive experience with hospitals but my experience here has been shocking. The social worker lied to us repeatedly about rehab options for our elderly father. First she said that only 5 requests were allowed to be sent - lie! Then said that she had given us a list of names for rehab centers- lie! Next she told us that a particular rehab center never contacted her - lie! A discussion with the rehab center made it clear that they had requested additional information for which they were still waiting. She kept saying that my father had to be moved immediately, but she simply didn't want to do additional work. She told us to look online for "skilled nursing facilities" - isn't that her job? We never saw the patient advocate, only spoke to the doctor when they were trying to force us to accept a rehab that was filthy and too far for his elderly wife to reach. Shameful and unprofessional behavior!!!!! What a horrible way to treat a human being. We will be filing a formal complaint with the state. BEWARE!!! read more

I brought my Dad in on Monday. The staff was friendly and made me feel very welcomed from the start of our visit. We were told there would be a wait when I asked but that is expected and was impressed when they used a phone to speak to my Dad in his native language. We were brought to the fast area. My dad was treated and released within 2 hours. From what I saw the nurses get abused by patients. A man started yelling at a nurse while she was assisting another patient to a stretcher. The PA's in the fast area were treating patients with colds. I came here two years ago after two weeks of vague symptoms that my doctor couldn't pinpoint. She had diagnosed me with gastritis and viral meningitis and I thought I was almost over it, but then I relapsed. My jaw locked while I was at work so I freaked and called my doc, and she told me I should go to a hospital. Thinking this would be a good one (what with Mt. Sinai in the name) and it's geographic convenience I came to the ER. The people who checked me in were really nice, and the nurses in the ER were also really nice and supportive. However, the intern that dealt with me kept insisting I was pregnant and had me pee into a cup three times before she got the test right and confirmed I was not pregnant (told her so). Overall, I'd give the ER folks (besides the intern) a decent rating, maybe 3 stars. I would give 4 stars to June the nurse, Gary the ultrasound technician, the sweet gentlemen orderlies, and the MRI tech that I met over the course of my otherwise nightmarish 3 day stay. Let me preface the rest of this review by explaining I have a chronic illness and have spent a lot of time in hospitals.I consider myself a professional patient at this point. This is one of the worst I've been to, second only to Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville (a true shit show of shit shows). Here were my main issues: * The nurses. With the exception of June (mentioned above) the nurses were ASSHOLES with no respect for their patients. Since I believe in honesty in medicine I told the first nurse that I occasionally smoke pot (a level of candor my normal doctors all appreciate). She flipped out and lectured me on the dangers of drug use, then handed me an unidentified pill, NOT prescribed by my doctor and expected me to take it. Way to send a mixed message (I refused to take it. I later asked my doctor and she said I did the right thing). I had two elderly roommates that they treated like dirt and mocked openly for their incontinence by calling them their "babies." One of my roommates had been admitted for a bowel obstruction and had barely eaten in the two weeks she'd been there. Yet the nurse kept insisting she had gained ten pounds because that's what the scale said. She would not accept that the scale was broken. The same roommate also was feeling sick to her stomach one day and it honestly took three hours for anyone to do anything about it. She kept calling for nurses and they'd pop in and leave and do absolutely nothing for her. Thankfully her daughter was there to hold the pan when she started throwing up. THREE HOURS she had been complaining and asking for a nurse. THREE HOURS. They also all had a horrific habit of coming into the room at all hours of the night screaming 'WHO IS CALLING ME??' You see, nurses, there are these lights next to the beds that go off when someone calls for you. It's a way of signaling who needs you so you DON'T wake up the two other sleeping patients by screaming like an asshole. * No brand name medications, which is a huge problem for me as binders and fillers in generic medications make me severely ill. I had my other bring my pills from home and the nurses got pisssssed about that! What the hell else did they want me to do? I couldn't get my meds from them, so I got them from my own supply. *No in-room bathrooms. You have to drag yourself down the hall to relieve yourself. I have never been to a hospital like this. * The food. This seems like it's obvious, but even by hospital standards I was in a WTF stupor over the food. Every meal comes with coffee and milk. I'm no doctor, but sick people, on average, need clear fluids which is why hospital meals traditionally come with juice and tea. Sure, you can specify what you like on the ordering form, but that only works if the idiot nurses don't throw the form out every day instead of delivering it to the kitchen like they're supposed to. I was also shocked that no one told the aforementioned roommate with the obstruction to watch her diet when she finally started eating again. Her son almost gave her eggplant parmesan! You can't eat all those seeds and cheese with a bowel obstruction even I know that! UGH. Thankfully a specialist figured out what was wrong with me and I was able to escape after three days of waiting for test results. This was hands-down the last place I would ever want to go to feel better or recover from anything. This hospital completely lacks any common sense with regards to people who are ill and I wouldn't wish my worst enemy into this place. If you need the ER you might be okay, but if they want to keep you request a transfer!! read more

Worst ER ever. I was waiting in the waiting room when someone walked in and could barely breathe. She knocked in the nurses window and she didn't even acknowledge her. She knocked again and the nurse said very rudely 'I'm with another patient.' The girl looked like she was going to pass out I couldn't believe how rude this nurse was. Had to visit the ER the other day after my uvula decided to triple in size overnight. The place was absolutely over capacity, and I was there at 8am on a Wednesday. The first three doctors told me "oh wow" after taking a quick look down my throat, and brought medical students to gawk. Finally after being there all morning, they put me in an ambulance and transferred me to mt Sinai manhattan. Good times. read more
