What can I say? Yet another one star review. The hospital itself is probably a solid two or three stars if you only need attention for cuts and bruises, but the billing department is phenomenally inept. So far I've received several statements for services that were paid many months ago, and I continue to get new ones each week in spite of the fact that I have a zero balance. Each time I call, I'm told to disregard the statements. You got it, right in to the trash can. But why can't you just stop sending them? This makes no sense. read more

My experience here was great--up until I had to make a phone call to reach Dr. Massasati (who was great herself) She's off duty at the moment. I wanted to discuss a different medication choice. I was tossed around to about 5 different people. Whoever the woman was on the last leg of the phone, was a BITCH. I'm still ILL, my voice is shaky, so I can barely. I was in emergency room for 13 hours before they transfer me in the hospital room. 4 people in one room. Next day they take me for x ray on the wheelchair and left me in corridor for hour. Nobody comeback for me . And i barely come back to my floor by my self. Food was disgusting impossible to eat. read more

I've been there recently, and there's absolutely no improvement! The place is horrendous and like the other people said, if you can go somewhere else, DO! Although the nurses and doctors are nice and qualified, I wish they would hire competent staff! You can never call and get someone on the phone! I sent in payments by check which they lost and then sent me bills to remit payment immediately! In the meantime, phone calls aren't answered and I have to call my bank to cancel checks, and thus incurring fees from my bank!! I've been there, and I know all they do it chat around; it's a disgrace! Seeing as most people don't like to pay bills, one would think they would be quick in helping someone who DOES want to pay, but I guess not! I finally was able to get in touch with someone to make the full payment and I hope they stay out of my life! The place is a zoo! read more

My husband and I went to this hospital since it was close to us. Walked in the E.R got looked at pretty quickly. Which probably is the only good thing that came out of the experience. Doctors were judgmental and rude. They were cracking jokes about what happen to my husband and asking stupid questions like "does this look swollen to you?", obviously his hand was extremly swollen. They also took us to the "fast track" section of the hospital which had no room to keep him in so they put him in a chair so everyone else can hear and see what they were saying to him. Beside us there was a guy with a cut in his hand and the doctors didn't bother closing the curtain so we had to watch his had being stitched. Later that week a lady that works for this hospital calls us on a friday not specifiing which department she was calling in. So we called the next day and a lady named Carlene Loler? Who works for the front desk was extremly rude couldn't help us to find this lady and yelled at me on the phone. Mind you this is a hospital and I'm trying to figure out if something was wrong with my husbands x-ray. This hospital should really look into the staff and start firing the ones who give it a bad name. What ever you do, avoid this hospital at ALL COSTS!! read more

The new ER that just opened is amazing. State of the Art and right on point in every way including the doctors, nurses and attendants. There are semi private rooms with closable doors and HD TV's. I am now considering this the best ER in NYC. I have lived in Astoria for 20 years and am well aware of what this place used to be. read more

Yes. ERs suck. Been here for 2 1/2 hours just to have my husband's asthma treated. In the meantime, a woman has waited over an hour just to get her wallet back (I don't know why they have it). And another woman has been screaming for over an hour about mysterious pains that no one seems willing to treat. Doubt I'd be back here if I had any choice. Seriously don't waste your time. I was there times within two days. The first day never saw a Dr only a PA. And sent home in pain. Ended up going back the next day with the same issue everything was okay the whole time but only because I complained on their survey. At 7:00 i got a new nurse to discharge me. She was horrible. Attitude as soon as she came in. I asked her if the dr gave me pain meds to go home with u til I can see my regular dr. She said no very rudely. I asked her to ask the doctor. She came back very quickly which was weird because my dr just got paged so I figured it would take a while. She came back and told me he said to take Tylenol and use ice. Now I told him in the beginning heat and ice didn't work and ibuprofen wasn't helping. I'm almost 100% sure she lied and never went to ask the dr. Atrocious care in the ER. Brought in a dear friend after 3 other people (including the 2 medics who came to pick her up in an ambulance) believed she had been slipped drugs when out for a drink after work. Nurse has not checked on her, or the other patient in this shared room, once in the 2 hours and 45 minutes we've been here. No vital signs checked, no Zofran administered for nausea, no IV fluids, nothing. The room next to us has been waiting for a stint in a broken limb for 5 hours and 6 minutes. Don't come here for emergencies. Go anywhere else you can. Staff gives you attitude when you inquire about help for said patient. read more

Improved.......but no matter how nice and professional everyone when there is a "bad seed"(a male nurse) .....I hate to say this....so much....but it happened, and EVERYONE saw.....and asked him "what a h.... he's doing, and why on earth he's ignoring me for 3 hours?!?!"..... He's name is " Mohammad" (or something like this) which is perfectly fine with me....no issue from my side because of name or religion EVER....but somehow he felt "offended" by my cross in my neck because he was keep look at it, and he was SOOOOO RUDE TO ME. And I was keep telling myself that this is not happening, he's probably busy and tired, but the E.R. was EMPTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And he saw me sitting there, and ignored me for 3 hours....other nurses and the doctor asked him if he finished the 2 sec. simple test that I was waiting for, and he was keep saying, (RIGHT FRONT OF ME) that "in a minute".....after 3 hours when the doctor and another nurse get VERY IRRITATED, finally and actually TOLD HIM to do the test.... the "funny part" came...... I saw him (unfortunately) and I saw him to throw out my little container without testing. And he said, it's fine.....so I can leave..... I almost cried. What was his problem, ...... to me it was very obvious. But in this country he's the ONLY ONE who can yell out loud about anyone that we are racist......he "CAN'T BE" that person. Only I can be, or you, or everyone else. I really wish to say something amazing about the new E.R. Because it's way better than it was before.......also EVERYONE ELSE was wonderful, kind and professional....accept that "male nurse". There's a lot of construction happening, but I approve of their effort to be better. Despite the not-even commotion downstairs, my doctor's office is so peaceful and calm upstairs. My doctor Dr. Van Wagner is so genuine, caring, informative, and timely. I definitely recommend her. read more

Staff are very laid back. The whole process of healthcare is taken very casual here. Wrappers and discarded materials lay on the ER floor. Employees smoke right outside the building and then come back in and deal with patients and they reek of smoke. String urine smell from bedpans not being emptied. Staff appear like a big bunch of friends whose main purpose is to socialize and talk about past and future social gatherings. Patient care is on the back burner. Therefore, NO PRIVACY when speaking about your symptoms or personal info. Dirty as ever! I woke up yesterday having terrible pain due to a kidney stone, I am a physician myself and have always received care at Columbia or Cornell, but since the pain was excruciating and Mount Sinai Queens was the closest one we went there. I have to admit that I was extremely surprised by the quality of care I received. Everyone was very friendly, compassionate, considered and professional (I did not mention I am in the field, so I am sure it was not because of that). The whole process was very efficient and the PA and RN taking care of me were checking on my all the time. Both my husband and I have worked in different ERs in the city, and after leaving the ER yesterday we both agreed that the service I received at MSQ was of great quality. I am very greatful to know we have a very good ER in the neighborhood! read more

This place was absolutely terrible, waited over 4 hours to get any attention. When we finally got a doctor he said we needed to go somewhere else to get a scan done.... Do not come here unless you're ready to wait over 5 hours to see any doctor, staff tell you nothing. Just generally uncomfortable atmosphere and unhelpful staff. I understand that it is a hospital and sometimes emergencies happen and need to be addressed first but this is ridiculous. Reading the other reviews this doesn't seem to be a off day but the norm of this place. If you can go somewhere else please do. read more

Staff that are working in the front are the worst. I understand that they are busy but if already let me make an appointment you should respect it. I made an appointment for my mom two week ago, the other two appointments were canceled by them. they called me 5 times to confirm it and the day before they told me to come at 1:50, I was not sure i understood her so I asked it is 5 and 0, she confirm it and rashly hang up. And today they call at 1:20pm to ask me if l'm coming or not and that I missed my appointment which was at 1:15. I explain her what happen and that we are coming in 10 mi she tolds me that i can be late only 10 min. This is insane how they act how they work in hospital as it is restaurant. They are not suppose to work there. Even now the dr. Kyrltsi is good doctor. I have to say to all of you that this is a hospital and it should be more serious and if you re busy do not take more patient. But my mom need a primary doctor to have as far as it is emergency not wait a month to see her. Dr Kyritsi is primary doctor for my dad and me too. One of the guards is great, who is the guy that was there the several times my girl was showed up, but there is another guard who is completely not clear about what you should do, and of course when I came in that was the guard I got. He told me to go to a desk and pointed in the direction of the inside of the hospital. So I went to the most obvious one, the one right there in the front waiting room. I was in pain and they were like 'wth, you got a lot of people on front of you why are you even here' and I was like 'excuse me but i was told by the guard to come in here and ask you what to do' it's an ER and I have an emergency, why is it not clear who I am supposed to talk to and where I am supposed to go if I am in a panicked state? So a few minutes later another person comes in the door and this guard tells them to go to ANOTHER desk, I could not figure out what I was supposed to have done. Why did they give me such an attitude all I was doing was coming in to the one very clear and obvious desk right at the front which I assume you are supposed to go to for check in. They were treating me like I had no right to be there. So eventually I do get in and they diagnose me and splint me up with a slim piece of tape and a bunch of ibuprofen. They couldn't get their story straight, the nurse came to tell me to go to the xray room AFTER it had been done already and then the doctor would come tell me my diagnosis, which he already did. They told me to go to a real doctor so I did a few days later (the earliest I could be seen) and the doctor was completely shocked at the treatment the ER gave me. I had something dislocated and they did not resolve it. It would have been easy for them to do it, just look at the other reviewer on here who talks about that. CLEARLY it is within their abillity to diagnose and resolve a dislocation, but they didn't, and it sat for days and my real doctor had a lot of work to do to get me straightened up. He asked me what else happened here and I told him and he was just flabbergasted at how inefficient and incompetent everything was done here. He even said the way I was bandaged was incorrect, and in fact they had made my injury WORSE. If you are in trouble, take a cab and go to the nearest urgent care. Don't bother here. My gf has been here a few times and I have been with her and they just treated her with disrespect every time. read more

I came here with my daughter because she was crying due to chest pains. They did an EKG and said her heart was fine, then I informed the doctor she's crying and saying her stomach and head hurts as well. The doctor basically said in a more articulate way, I don't know what's wrong with her, it seems like she's getting a virus and told me to give her Motrin. The next day my daughter was STILL crying in pain, so I took her to a different ER, where we found out she was constipated and dehydrated and needed an IV to give her more fluids. I just took her to Mount Sinai ER the night before, and they did not attempt to even do test after I stated her issues. If my daughter didn't get the treatment she needed, her life could of been at risk, and all Sinai could say when I took her is "it seems like she could be getting a virus." How the fuck do you come up with a virus from dehydration and constipation ?? They try to get you in and out a lack actual quality of work. Triage was very sweet however. read more

I have to be honest I had one bad experience here over a year ago but after my experience over the weekend I have changed my mind. I went to the ER thinking that I was having a PE and they immediately got me back and reassured me that I was safe and everything was going to be okay. The nurse Helen was very sweet and attentive and the doctor I saw was very thorough in her examination of me. I was there for almost 7 hours but I mean it's an ER, that's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Plus they wouldn't let me go until they were certain that I did not have a blood clot ( thank God). Bad reviews about wait time in an ER should not be taken seriously as long as the care is great. I have never gone to the ER at any hospital expecting to be in and out within an hour or two. read more

We were fooled with a daytime visit that seemed to go ok but when we went back on a Sunday and the place was a zoo in the e.r. that is when we realize what an awful place it really is. To bad Niarchol trust gave money to this place, what did they do with it. You get admitted and wait 24 hours for a room and when you get to the room, they you have to deal with a whole other world of politics on each floor. They discharged a senior without putting a stethoscope on her chest and now she is wheezing, coughing and I can't blame her for never wanting to go near that place especially when an icy cold vent was blowing freezing air on her while she had a fever and I begged them to move her but no avail, no attention to me, looking at me as if I was a trouble making caregiver. Patient reps are in the game too. The bottom line is they are hired to look out for the hospital, if you bitch and complain too much they will find a way to toss you out. They don't want so called troublemakers. Why don't they just go out of there way to help a person get well with honesty and sincerity? Why? I can't go to a wealthy Beverly Hills hospital, this is all we have in stupid Astoria, the flipping zoo on 30th Avenue which people still refer to as "Astoria General" which was awful back in the day and now is no different. Doctors, primary cares, they are all in the clik and the game and really don't care for the patient, their way is to be faithful to the hospital because that is their connection to the money, from their offices to the hospital and billing billing billing is the name of the game, they don't care about you or your loved one. Hospital has improved Soo much. Took a friend there who had chest pains. They were quick, efficient and followed the proper protocol. He had a heart issue they stabilized him and sent him within 20 minutes of getting results to Mount Sinai Manhattan vathe lab where they did the necessary procedure immediately and there was an excellent outcome. They have come a long way in just a few years. read more

Admitted with kidney stone. General quality of care was reasonable, and due to the pain I was admitted quickly. Unfortunately, I was parked in a coridoor next to a homeless person who insisted on loudly yelling at every nurse or doctor who walked past. The doctor then neglected to put vital information on the prescriptions for pain control, meaning no pharmacy would fill the order. Finally, upon calling the hospital they asked me to WALK back to the emergency room so they could re-do the scrip - apparently calling the doctor in question is too much effort, so they need to ask a guy with kidney stones to come back in and do the legwork for them. As someone with experience of other healthcare system (NHS) I can say that i'm utterly disgusted by the third-world state of US healthcare, and will likely be even more disgusted when they send me the bill. read more

My father was escorted out of the home from seizures and fainting by ambulance last night. The paramedics were very disrespectful and didn't even close the front door when they left. My father was ignored the entire night, heavily medicated, stripped of his clothes, and was put in only a diaper. He wasn't given blankets or a pillow. He was then told to leave the hospital at 5:30 am without any tests being done to diagnose his illness. He was then thrown out of the hospital when he still, physically, couldn't stand up. We were charged $400 for this despite the fact that we have insurance. If you're sick, or even dying, you're better off staying home. read more

It was such a pig pen I couldn't believe it. I am basing this on once I got out of the ER and was admitted. The ICU couldn't take me yet as the power was out and running on a generator and once I got there the charge nurse with a thick accent who keeps going "ahh?" was so obnoxious and unprofessional she chewed gum the whole time and could not be bothered for anything and yelled at her patients . Once they transferred me to a non ICU floor the bathrooms were unusable. There was feces all over and piles of paper towels in all 4 corners of the room where they remained through out the night . The P.A's also did not take notes or communicate anything so if dont tell them follow up with the doctor or more importantly your private doctor than don't trust anything. For what they lack in space, they compensate for a caring staff and competent clinicians. It's not Cornell or Sloan Kettering and they aren't trying to be - they are a community hospital that treats typical acute illness very well. I know the staff here - I've been a practicing PA for 12 years - and vouch for their professionalism and skill. The Chief of Medicine runs an amazing department and the small size of the hospital allows for excellent communication among staff members. Unfortunately, i believe the vast amount of negative comments are at least in some way rooted in people's perception of the facility's appearance and not the actual medicine that is practiced here. Surely, their upcoming expansion will give the surrounding community the facility they need and deserve. read more

I'm not a yelper ... I dont believe in giving bad reviews If I like the place everyone will know, if I hate it, I'll never go back and keep my mouth shut .But after the experience I had today at Mount Sinai in Astoria Queens , I had to write this. HORRIBLE is an understatement . Aside the fact that the place is filthy ( I would've turned a blind eye for that ) the staff is THE WORST! They're not in sync with each other. They don't want to help each other out which makes it more difficult for them. I don't care what differences u have with each other or in your personal lives, when you come to work you leave that shit at home. My mother was admitted at 11 and wasn't seen until 4 . She had kidney stones which weren't as important as the young lady with a bleeding ulcer, but she was in pain and need some pain meds . The nurses were more concerned with finding her a bed than getting her some pain meds. They should've just drawn an IV where she was sitting to make her comfortable and then find a bed. After 4 hours of waiting I spoke to a supervisor. What a waste of time. All he did was just walk back to the ER just so we could see he was doing something and then disappeared. It was pointless cause we still waited another hour. Then after allllllll the waiting we did, two nurse came. One with a shot and one with an iv. Both given different instructions on what to do with my mother . If my mother was asleep and I wasn't there would they have both given her a double dose of pain meds? That's how law suits happen . The staff just didn't give shit. The only nice thing I have to say is the The nurse that drew the IV was very gental and very comforting and a male nurse wearing all black ( maybe he was a doctor, I don't know ) was very nice and tried his best to get my mother feel like a human being . Other than that I would only to to Mount Sinai to die . It is an absolute mess. The ER security should focus on pulling his pants up . Had he needed to chase someone , he'd trip over the sagging of his pants. This is a hospital , not the hood .The reception area doesn't give a shit about anything cause they're too busy on their phones. I walked in and out without anyone asking me a single question. Nice security system guys. Thumbs up . We waited just as long to get discharged and we did to be seen. This is all in the morning to mid afternoon shift . Can't speak for the night shift . Over all my experience was garbage . This place is just as bad as it was 20 years ago when it was Astoria general . Only thing that changed is its name.
