We've used Mountain Air for several years for our bi-annual "tune-ups" so when our 6 year old HVAC system stopped working suddenly of course we called them first. Their diagnosis was we had a bad compressor and it would need to be replaced at a cost of just under $6,000. Having relatives in the HVAC business in Arizona I knew that compressors are expensive. We had replaced our HVAC system, including the variable speed furnace, in California the year earlier for just over $9,000 so I requested a quote to replace our entire system since their $6,000 estimate would or should be a majority of the entire cost. Imagine my surprise when the bids we received ranged from $17,000 to $27,000!!! At these prices it was time to get a second opinion....and this is where it gets really ridiculous. After getting a recommendation from another homeowner within our community we had Ben Henry HVAC out to check our system. What he found was that we had no electricity running to our condenser/compressor, that the electrical line from our electrical panel in the garage to the outside unit had failed/been severed. Ben suggested we have Dave Williams of Crux Electrical out to repair the line which we did. Upon restoring electrical power our system worked fine, there was NO COMPRESSOR ISSUE AND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ACTUAL HVAC SYSTEM!!!!!! When I shared the Mountain Air bid with my HVAC experienced relatives and with our HVAC guy in California they all laughed and remarked we were being ripped off. As I said in my final communication with the sales folks at Mountain Air, "So you guys are either incompetent or have low business integrity...leave it to you to decide". The positive outcome of this entire debacle was we found two great contractors in Ben Henry and Dave Williams. We upgraded our furnace with a variable speed motor by Ben Henry and it's been a game changer. read more

Bradley showed up during the scheduled timeframe, ensured what was working was working correctly, and gave us the heads-up that our 33 year old furnace was in 'limp' mode, not a shock considering the fan wasn't starting all the time. My son was scheduled for a service call on 6/19/2024 between 1200pm and 500pm. They never showed up and when my son called, they said that we never notified them for a service call, but his name was in the system. if we didn't call them, how did my son's name get placed in their system. This company is excellent. I purchased an A.C. Unit from them 2 years ago. After many presentations from their competitors I chose Mountain Air because they were cost effective and honest in their presentation. They were thousands of dollars less than the others. Fast forward 2 years, my furnace needed to be replaced. Again the sales person was great. I own a company and sell for a living and know when I'm getting honest answers. The new furnace was installed but had an issue the following week. They came over and to find the problem. It was a piping issue which was scheduled for the next day. Because it's cold, the service manager showed up on my door yesterday with 2 space heaters! The issue was resolved today. The people at Mountain air are professional and service oriented. Everything a business should be! They show up when promised, finish on time, no "surprise" up charges and they clean up before they go. The only reason we knew they were here apart from letting them in the door, was the fact that they did everything they were supposed to. The only thing that keeps me from giving them 5 stars is the fact the the tech on a previous visit missed the cause of a problem (in fairness he was not called in for that issue) . We could have saved a few $ with the correct diagnosis but, after combing the internet it seems like the solid majority of the issues that we were showing symptoms for were for the issue he addressed. Just hoped for a little better diagnostics. We will not hesitate to use them when needed. read more

I called this business the Fri. before Independence Day. I was hopeful because they said even with it being a Holiday weekend, they would come out and diagnose it. After replacing one part, it turned out that they had to order another part. I agreed. They finally got the part in and came out to install it. The technician left and I noticed that the air still wasn't working. I called them back and they told me that only other thing they could suggest is to buy a brand new unit due to what was likely a broken capacitor. They suggested this new unit before even stepping foot into my furnace room. I called my Home Warranty and submitted a claim to have them come out and diagnose it since at this point, I've already spent $800 on repairs through Mountain Air and still didn't have working AC. The Home Warranty Technician quickly diagnosed that the problem was in the furnace and NOT in the outdoor HVAC unit. He was able to fix it without replacing the entire unit. I am beyond frustrated. It feels like I was taking advantage of by this company and when I called to dispute the services I was charged for, they gave me a small discount off my bill and told me, "Sorry, we still need to make money on this." Well, I'm glad you have the integrity to scam people to make money for your business. I thought I would have a better experience based on all the positive reviews but after learning they "fish" for those reviews, I guess it's no surprise. I will never use this company again, and unless you feel like shelling out $10k for a new unit, just because, I suggest you find somewhere else to go as well. I have also submitted this claim to the BBB in hopes that they won't be able to do this to someone else. read more

I was very impressed with Robert and Jay who installed a complete new system in our home. They were both good communicators and very clean and professional. They had the foresight to make recommendations that were totally forward looking as to avoid future problems. Fantastic to do business with. We have used Mountain Air & Heating's services twice now. The first time was back in the summer when our A/C decided to stop working, and the 2nd was just yesterday, when our furnace did the same. Fortunately, both times a part simply needed to be replaced. Both technicians were extremely friendly and helpful, and definitely know what they are doing. Both times, we had these issues on the weekend, and Mountain Air was able to come out same-day and fix our problem. I don't know what we would have done without them! I have used them before, 25 year old AC unit stopped working. Easy fix, as the tech had the correct run capacitor in his truck. Very affordable and all was good. This year, the now 26 year old AC was not cooling, discussed the issues with my wife and decided it was time to replace the whole system. Reached out to Mountain Air, made our choice and set the time for the install. Unfortunately, they started the job on Friday - left for the weekend - came back to finish the job on Monday. For the last two weeks, been waiting for the house to cool down, and it did for a bit, then it started to get warmer day by day. Finally, it was warmer inside than it was outside. Called Mountain Air, and they sent a tech out today to look it over. System was frozen...Needs to defrost, seems a setting was done incorrectly by the installers. So the system is now off, i.e. not cooling, so it can defrost. Was told when it was installed it had an automatic defroster. Why doesn't that work? Also came with a "Smart" thermostat. Tied in with their database, reports issues to them automatically, well, it would have had the installers set it up correctly, which, it seems, they did not. And so Mountain Air was not getting the notification that the system was in distress. When spending the amount one does with the high end equipment, or even the low end equipment, I believe it is reasonable to expect that the job be done correctly the first time. My confidence in this company is not where it should be. I can only hope that tomorrow the issues will be resolved and all will be good. read more

I had my furnace serviced by another HVAC company in Ogden, Ut. They said the heat exchanger was cracked and leaking a very small amount of CO. OK, I buy that, after all, the system was installed in 1998. Time for a replacement. I received a quote from the first company and then called Mountain Air to get a comparable and a second opinion. Mountain Air confirmed the CO leak. I asked for a system quote from Mountain Air which was $3K less than the first company for comparable 96% furnace and 16 Seer HVAC. Mountain Air also factored in the Electric and Gas rebate. The other one didn't. Mountain Air also provided me a military discount. The other one didn't. Of course, I selected Mountain Air. Installation started on Wednesday, just two days later. I was told they would probably be finished on Friday but I would have heat via portables on Wednesday and Thursday. Imagine my surprise when I came home Wednesday afternoon and the furnace was operational. Still needed the A/C completed but at 16 degrees Fahrenheit, who cares. A/C completed the next day by lunchtime. The Mountain Air crew were professional, courteous, and performed high quality work. Thank you Mountain Air. You are my go-to company for all my future HVAC needs. And my new Lennox system works great. My formerly cold front room is now warm as well as my basement. read more

Original post: Our heater went out during the night. My husband was out of town and I honestly hate dealing with repair people. He said just do what we needed to done to get it fixed. I read all the great reviews on here so I called Mountain Heating and Air. The person I talked to on the phone said they were running a special for $50 off any repair, and that she would give me a discount on the diagnostic fee. Seemed great and the person could come quickly. The guy came, was literally here for 25-30 minutes. All he did was clean out a clog (that only took him about 15 minutes, the rest of the time he was in his van, talking to me, or doing the diagnostic thing which was just quickly reading the blinking light). He charged me almost $300. When I talked to one of the managers she apologized and said he DEFINITELY over charged me but she still charged me $150. (She said that it would have been $200 but she was giving me the $50 off and that they never do discounts on the diagnostic fee.) SERIOUSLY 100 for diagnosing a problem that took 5 minutes and about $100 for 15 minutes of actual work seems wrong. We definitely won't use them again and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

Fast and so helpful, even on a Sunday! Our furnace stopped working the Sunday before Christmas. We called Mountain Air to see if someone could could come out and take a look. Within a few hours Zack came out and he got everything working again. Fee was reasonable for an emergency call and he gave us helpful hints and advice to keep our furnace working safely. He didn't try to sell anything extra or scam us, he seemed genuinely concerned with safety and CO2 and with getting our furnace serviced regularly, even if it wasn't with his company. Id give the company a zero rating if I could. Charged 158 dollars to look at my AC units and to tell me to turn it off because the fan is over worked. Also lied and said I could only buy a replacement filter from an AC company and not Home Depot and wanted to charge 730 dollars to install a part that cost 214. The tech tried to take the filter with him so I wouldnt know what size to go buy. I found them on yelp and sent requests out to several other companies as well. The first company that responded had lots of terrible reviews about high pressure add on sales and trying to sell services and repairs that weren't needed. I was SUPER happy when Mountain Air responded because they had much better reviews. They were able to send someone to my house within hours of calling them. Sent texts to let me know when they were showing up along with the name and photo of the technician coming. Cody showed up at my place and quickly diagnosed the problem. He then told me they could fix it for a fee or I could do it myself if I wanted to and he would just charge the diagnostic fee. I'm a DIY guy and know just enough about AC units to be dangerous so I was super impressed that he educated me on what needed to be done and some basics on how to do it and how to prevent any issues in the future. He showed me the different parts, what they did, and parts to watch for that might go bad. After Cody left I went ahead and did what he said and now my home went from 88 degrees and rising to a comfortable 72. This other company came out four times in eleven days, each time the AC would work for a day then go out! When I called Mountian they were quite busy, as to be expected with the high temps so I figured it would be a few days. Nope! It has been about two weeks since the tech came out to see what was going on with my HVAC system I waited to see if there would be any problems and I can happily say I haven't encountered any. The HVAC tech was very thorough and went over the entire system inside and out. He diagnosed several small problems that added up to a bigger problem. He swapped out a part and fixed other small areas that were contributing to the problem. I hope what he learned with my system can now be taken back to train other HVAC technicians. I still believe that if their HVAC techs were trained to the level that this technician was trained then these small problems would have been addressed during the annual tuneups. With that being said I upgraded my rating to three stars and hope that none of their other customers go through what I went through. read more
