My favorite is Mountain Aire Veterinary Hospital with its most competent vet and friendly caring staff who are willing to help last minute with international travel documents, dog anxiety, dental work, annual physicals, tick bites, etc. It's also a woman owned business, and the vet even has a law degree! I like people who pay great attention to detail and feel that my dog is receiving excellent care here. Prices are what they are in the LA area (without the crowds, cramped offices, rushed visits and lack of available appointments). Questions are answered quickly, solutions found and treatments explained well. The report card my dog received after oral surgery was hilarious! The team at this vet office really cares about your pet as much as you do and it shows in their high quality service. read more

My 7 week old Rottweiler was sick the first day I got him and I wasn't able to get in anywhere in Bakersfield CA. However I called here and it happened to be on a day where they are open (TEMPORARY HOURS Saturday after the first Wednesday of the month) Dr Cosko was the absolute best she was the sweetest and absolutely attentive to my pup. We are so grateful for the care our dog received at Mountain Aire Vet. We have a part time home in Pine Mountain Club, so we generally handle veterinary care near our primary residence. However, during our Winter Break, our dog (Maisy) had an acute allergic reaction that wasn't responding to Benedryl. Neighbors recommended we call Dr. Cosko and we are so grateful we did. Her staff was able to squeeze us in on a same day appointment, she did a thorough exam and her treatment plan resolved the issue quickly. She also gave us great information to take back to our regular vet for future treatment. Her staff was incredibly kind and patient. The offices were clean and inviting. One caution we received was to expect a hefty bill, but we found our charges for the thorough exam and medications to be priced very fairly. She even gave us her cell number to call if any issue arose during the holiday while they were closed!! Exceeded my expectations on every level. Been off and on frequenting our local hospital for my 20 yrs here. Whether it was fixing feral cats, an emergency visit with a foster dog or our 150+ lb German Shepherd, Dr Cosko and her staff have been warm, caring, clear, thorough and go beyond what one might expect from a vet never mind a small mountain community facility. Facility is clean and welcoming, friendly faces cheerful even when visit is less then happy and the responsiveness and follow thru beyond what one might expect typical vet. Dr. Cosko cost my Lhasa Apso Mojo his life. She diagnosed him @ 1 p.m. and sold me @ $250 in medications. She said she needed to do further examinations, and kept me waiting until 6 p.m. She then prescribed a medication that required pharmaceutical supply. The pharmacy here closes at 6 p.m., so I had to drive to Castaic to obtain it. Upon purchase, I immediately gave the medication to Mojo. He passed away as we were exiting the 5 Freeway at Frazier Park. I dropped the $250 box of medications Dr. Cosko had sold me at the side door of her facility. Dr. Cosko apologized, but notified me she would not be able to refund the purchase price on these unopened medications she sold me. Had she told me at 1 p.m. that I would have to wait for hours for her to finish her examination of Mojo, I could have gone to the local (El Tejon) pharmacy and gotten Mojo the medication he needed to survive. I rescued a woodpecker laying on the road in Frazier Park. Took him home with me and put him in my lanai. His wing was broken, but he was walking all over the room enjoying the children's toys. I asked Patrice Stimpson if she knew of anyone who might be able to help. She put me in touch with a woman who had a bird sanctuary here on the mountain. I met the woman at the Y (turn-off to PMC) and gave Red to her, asking that Red be returned to me (with his wing repaired, so I could bring him back to where I found him in Frazier Park; or if his wing could not be repaired, so he could enjoy life in my lanai). I loved the little guy's enthusiasm, notwithstanding his inability to fly. The woman never got back to me. I reached out to Patrice....and was eventually advised that Red had been taken to Dr. Cosko, who put the woodpecker to sleep. read more

The entire staff at Mountain Aire is incredible and caring. They provide exceptional care. Unfortunately it comes at a cost that I cannot afford. I took my very sick senior kitty in for what I thought was an eye infection. By the time we made it to the vet, it had become clear that it was a much bigger issue than I had thought. The staff were almost more devoted to her welfare than I. Unfortunately, even after declining several recommended services, I still ended up paying almost twice what I could comfortably afford to. I didn't feel like I was truly heard about my financial limitations or that they met me where I was when it came to settling on a treatment plan. Their follow-up was thorough and compassionate. Their facility is sweet and adorable. I will be paying the bill off for months. Probably some of the best veterinary care money can buy - if you have plenty of it. read more

My baby chihuahua "Poochie" was mauled by a larger dog in our front yard. She sustain injuries under her right front leg and by her belly in the back hind leg. This vet was highly recommended to me by a couple of family members (who now live in Las Vegas - Which btw, they still see Dr Cosko and drive for hours once a month) I had to bring my dog, Skip, in for the first time just over a month ago and I have had nothing but awesome service - from the staff and Dr Cosko. The office and rooms have always been clean. I've always been greeted by the staff and they interact with the pets coming in. Dr. Cosko is a great Veterinarian and truly cares. I've read people complaining about their high prices, but come on, people... no matter where you go, vet care for our pets is going to be high. Never have I brought a dog to a vet, I saw the review and it said that they would charge A lot and nothing was going to help, I got there all staff so nice and very clear with all that was going to be done to make sure they found out what was wrong with charlie, I told them i loved my puppy but I didn't want to pay a lot. They gave me a quote and explained to me with details what the cost of each procedure was gonna be if they had to keep doing other exams . I honestly saw maximum $600, I had to anyways,, well Doctor Costco called me and gave me the news that she found what really was going on with charlie and told me to come in and see if that's the reason I had brought Charlie, I did come charlie was having a severe allergy and was reverse sneezing. I paid close to nothing and I was so happy with the results and the experience, it worked out for me! Days after they kept being in contact with me to check up on charlie. This is the absolute worst animal hospital I have ever been to. Not only is the place extremely dirty and old, they also have a rodent and bug problem. They know they are the only vet in town, so they take the opportunity to charge you almost double what a normal place would. Dr. Cosko has taken special care of our dogs since we moved here in 1996. And I say special because that's how she and her incredible staff treat us and our animals. And we are are extremely grateful for that. She has guided us through the sadness of having to say good by to each of our three children (that's how we saw them). I make a review on her and she lies, you never asked for my name and number and first of all if you were closed why was I in the office you mean to say is you were not working that day. I left Los Angeles for a short stay in Frazier Park for a little R&R and within a few hours of my arrival I had a limping dog. There's nothing more unsettling than being out of town and not knowing any veterinarians. Fortunately, the Airbnb host recommended Dr. Cosko. What an incredible experience. I found Dr. Cosko and her staff to be professional, competent, and friendly. They really went the extra mile for my 7 month old border collie and also for me. I had no insurance but was gently persuaded to consider some options and within a few hours my dog was covered. I also had no education on foxtails and they spent time explaining what they are and how to protect my dog against getting any. I would be remiss to not mention Dr. Cosko's impeccably designed, spacious, and clean as a whistle hospital. And the grounds outside were also equally impressive. I have not yet been exposed to this level of care and am so grateful to them for treating my girl and getting her back to a full recovery. read more

My experience with Dr. Cosko was eye opening. She had to perform emergency surgery on my elderly dog who had swallowed a hand-full of Foxtails. Just before going into surgery she had lacerated a finger severely. Instead, of taking care of herself she continued caring for all her patients that day. We walked in here as we were driving through the area when we noticed our dog's eye was swollen shut and oozing. The staff was so kind and welcoming to us even though I was there without an appointment and twenty minutes before they were open. They were able to see us and take care of our dog. I started with Mountain Aire in 1989, if memory serves. My son wanted a dog. Since then Mountain Aire and Dr. Cosko have cared for four dogs in all, counting my current two and she has saved all their lives at one time or another. So I have had time to evaluate things. I am a fact kinda person so making this not sound like a commercial is a bit hard. Instead, I'm just going to talk to you from the heart. A dog just wants to be loved. He/she will put up with all kinds of conditions just so long as he receives love. He will endure cold, heat, hunger, poor living conditions and still work for and protect his owner so long as he receives love. You, as an owner, are required to do just two things. Your duty is to love your dog and give your dog the very best life you can. For instance, you probably spent considerable time and effort tying to pick out the very best food for your dog. You researched it and you talked to other people you thought might know more about this. Part of your duty to your dog (or cat, or other furry or feathered family member) is to provide medical attention just as you would to another family member. This means the best medical services for your dog you can provide. This is where Dr. Cosko comes in. By some fluke, I moved to the same general area where she set up her veterinary hospital. After years and some thought, here are the three reasons in my mind why I was so lucky. First, Dr. Diane Cosko received absolutely the best veterinary training on the planet. She graduated from UC Davis with a D.V.M. degree. You might remember this saying from college: "It is easier to get into the UC Davis Medical School than the UC Davis Veterinary School." Well, she did it, and it is the best training possible. Second, Dr. Cosko has operated her hospital for 27 years. This is 27 years of experience dealing with whatever walks through the door in a rural, mountainous area, from a red tailed hawk to a pet leopard. This is not TV, she is the only veterinarian there. So she handles all sorts of emergencies as they arise. If she doe not know the answer to a particular problem herself, she gets on the telephone or on-line and digs to find the answer. There simply cannot be more experience than she has. Third, and this one takes awhile to see, Dr. Cosko has a zen-like, pinpoint focus while treating your family member. At this time there are no distractions of other thoughts. Her mind is working, solving your pet's problems, both now and in the future. I think Dr. Cosko told me once she sees 4000 dogs a year. Yet she retains the medical history of mine and can recount it to me if I have forgotten. Then, you see her in the lobby dealing with other animal owners and you suddenly realize you are not unique, she employs this laser focus, concentration and memory for all her patients. Dr. Cosko sets high standards and her staff reflect these standards. The Veterinary Technicians at Mountain Aire are all experienced and excellent. They take charge of manipulating your dog for examination and procedures and tell you how you can best assist in the process. You know you are in good hands even before the doctor enters the examination room. This excellence even extends to the office staff who do the appointments, billing and notify and caution you, again, regarding any prescriptions you pet may receive. They are even excellent on the telephone. It could not be better. I no longer live in this area. I have a summer and winter residence in the Sierras in Central California. But I want the best for my dogs and so the three hour drive to Mountain Aire Veterinary Hospital is the least I can do. As long as Dr. Cosko will take me, I will consider myself lucky to be a client. So, I can only promise you one thing. If you want the absolutely best veterinary services humanly available, that can be found with Dr. Cosko and Mountain Aire Veterinary Hospital. well it's hard to review a service when they think and have a monopoly on service after the exam which took a total of five minutes and was not even used as part of final bill , well I was told that I was to wait for the estimate, a couple of minutes later I was told that for twenty stiches it was going to be $ 385 dollars now I have been training dogs all my life and I can not operate on muscle tissue, organ or bone but I can stich a skin wound unfortunately I did not have my kit with me, this was only skin tear and no muscle damage local anesthetic and good cleaning it was all that was needed, by the way I had cleaned wound prior to exam, just did not have proper needel for stiches, by the way this dog is a sweet heart to work with, getting back to the $385 dollars for 20 minutes work , I comented that the price was a bit hi about $150 dollars to much, the answer was well we are the only vet up here, and maybe that price in the valley, well I tell you I hope they choke on it, to end it all I go pick up the dog and she tells me the dog has a speck of a tumor at the croch I look at it and it would of been very easy to remove while the dog was under anesthesia which was not nessesary but oh well it could have taken care of then, well I get told well that would have to be another visit, anyways if you take any animal there grab youre anckles because you will get it, oh by the way they do try to hide the bull pretending they care, to end I asked around at locals they all told me same story, shame on you mountain aire, you wont get me again or my animals read more
