I ended up taking my dog to Bishop, CA which is around 100 miles away. The vet there stayed late, did a thorough exam and gave a shot and meds. Subsequently I said, no more VCA. However the other day my wife made an appointment for nail clipping at VCA for both dogs and a sanitary trim of one of my dogs. When I arrived, I was informed they were understaffed and wouldn't do the sanitary trim. They then took each dog away for 10 minutes, brought them back and said they 'd clipped the nails. I then paid the bill of 76 dollars, got in my car and drove home. When there, I examined each dog. There was no evidence of anyone having clipped nails on either dog. At this point, I just don't feel I can trust VCA with the health and wellbeing of my dogs, and as a result, I'm not having anything to do with them.

I called around 8:30 a.m. this morning to establish care for my two French Bulldogs and was told that they were accepting new patients but it would be a month out. The receptionist began collecting my information to create patient charts, discussed scheduling appointments for June, and was in the process of preparing the required $40 per pet appointment hold fee when the call was disconnected. When I called back later, a different receptionist informed me that the clinic was not accepting new patients and that I would not be able to establish care there. When I explained that another staff member had literally begun the intake process and was preparing to collect payment for appointments, I was simply told, "I don't know, but we're not taking new patients." The complete lack of communication and consistency was incredibly frustrating. Based on the glowing reviews, I expected a much more professional and organized experience. While I cannot speak to the quality of the veterinary care itself, the customer service and handling of front-office communication left a very poor first impression.

We sent our dogs, Saint…read more(6-year-old Rottweiler) and Noah (3-year-old German Shepherd), through their 4-week off-leash/advanced training program, and WOW--what a transformation! Noah was a bundle of chaos, and Saint was well-behaved but needed some fine-tuning. After the training, they're both so much more responsive, well-behaved, and just easier to handle--especially with our 1-year-old baby around. Their confidence and obedience skyrocketed, and we've never felt closer to them. Plus, we learned how to keep up the training at home, which was super helpful! Never thought I'd be able to walk these big boys off leash and have them heel at my side. Bella and Fernando were professional, patient, and clearly love what they do. They kept us in the loop and gave us the tools we needed for success. If you're considering training, DO IT--you won't regret it!

My German Shorthaired Pointer was known to jump fences and couldn't be trusted off leash. After a board and train with Fernando, my dog made incredible improvements. she now walks with me in town and is great on and off leash. I couldn't have imagined a better outcome! I've boarded my dog easily over a dozen times, and they make pick up & drop off so easy. Whether it's an overnight stay or two weeks, I feel comfortable knowing my dog is safe with Guiding Pets & Parents. My cat was sick and I obviously answered any questions to give the veterinarian an idea of what was wrong with him. When I tell you she wasn't in that room for more than a minute, I wish I were exaggerating. She looked into my cat's mouth for maybe 10 seconds and decided $675 worth of medications and treatments was needed. I would have probably been ok with paying that amount if I genuinely felt like she cared about my cat's health and wanted to help him. I then tried to see if I could get any of the medications without the $235 bloodwork. At least the fever reducer. The vet veterinarian said no. The bloodwork was then dropped down to $165 to send the test out to a 3rd party instead of in-house. I left this place unsatisfied with their service and luckily I already had another appointment lined up for my boy and he is doing much better.

The dogs stay outside in large pens and you can pay a little more to have them get some yard time. As far as we can tell they adhere to our feeding cycles and the dogs seem no worse for wet when we pick them up. This has been a stressful year for me as a human, but the bright note in the middle of all has not only been the boarding, but also the training. I now have dogs who respond to commands, walk excellently on leashes and are social with the other dogs. The reason why is simple. Lurine trained them, made them comfortable in their surroundings and kept them together. They have had A+ training and I really couldn't be happier! In fact I'm sad that I'll be moving out of the area, with no one to count on to watch my pups. Cameo Kennels is a bright spot in this little desert town.
