Both visits delivered exactly what I was looking for: quiet, well-maintained woods and a chance to disappear for a bit. Parking was easy both times. I found spots right near the trailheads without circling or waiting, which immediately set the tone for a low-stress hike. Even better? Across both visits, I saw a grand total of three other people. Three. If you're looking for seclusion and space to think, this is a solid choice. The trails themselves are clearly cared for. They were well-maintained, free of trash and debris, and the recent tree work was evident in the best way -- cleaned up, safe, and thoughtfully handled. Blazes were easy to follow and intersections were clearly marked, so navigation on the ground wasn't an issue at all. One important heads-up: I had zero cell service with Verizon either time I was there. None. Plan ahead. Download your maps, save your trail info offline, and don't rely on pulling anything up once you're in the woods. It's peaceful... but it's disconnected. Beyond the trails themselves, there's a lot to appreciate in the area -- from Appalachian Trail landmarks like the Midway Point marker to the surrounding natural beauty that makes this part of Pennsylvania so special. It's one of those places that feels quietly significant without being overrun. If you're looking for a quiet hike, a reset, or just some time in well-kept woods without crowds, Pine Grove Furnace is an excellent option. Peaceful, scenic, and exactly what it should be.

The physical sign next to my site said $10 per night for PA residents, $15 out of state, the employee told me "No none of our sites would be that cheap". No intentions on returning which is unfortunate because the site was very nice and spacious and had a small fire pit. Don't charge us for Pine Grove Furnace State Park Organized Group Camping when we stayed in the Michaux State Forest campground just a tad further down the exact same camping road.

We had site 109 for our 33ft camper was so tight and zero privacy with your neighbors sewer hookup at your door and cabins staring at your picnic table at the rear. We apologized to our neighbors when we were leaving while they set up their breakfast and we dumped our tanks. If they widened sites it could be a decent place to stay because it seemed updated. We went to mountain creek 16 minutes down the road and enjoyed a W/E site with room to move.

We loved waking up and enjoying breakfast on the large deck, as well as tossing a frisbee in the backyard by the firepit. Everything you need in a kitchen is included with the rental. The cottage is super open and welcoming! Just a short drive to downtown Carlisle and Dickinson College! Very convenient to Harrisburg, and the Appalachian trail.

Make sure when visiting the campgrounds that you have a lantern available as the units are significantly darker than you might expect. Magnolia was very clean on the interior. At the exterior, the landscape slopes toward the cottage more than we thought was comfortable. The showers and dishwashing facilities were in good condition. This region generally has quite a few different attractions for nature lovers including a long hike along the Appalachian trail nearby and proximity to quaint small towns. Last, but definitely not least, Nick and his partner were among the most accommodating and friendly hosts one could ask for. When we had difficulty setting a campfire they generously gifted us some leftover materials to start our fire and advised us on best practices! We recommend that anyone interested in having a weekend away in nature investigate the Treehouse camp!

We have two little kids and they loved the playground, outdoor ping pong table and outdoor movie night! They handed out free popcorn and even had a piñata the next day in celebration of cinco de mayo! The coffee and ice cream in the market were both delicious and the staff was very friendly. The rec room had great games and a craft center for the kids which was great since we did get a lot of rain on day 2. Overall a great experience and we will definitely be back- the website gives a great rundown on themed weekends. Almost forgot one of the most important parts- the bathrooms were so clean and accommodating! Little things that you may have forgotten were stocked for you in the ladies bathroom.

Campground Island is a unique spot on an island in the Conewago Creek. The staff were amazing and very friendly to interact with during our stay. You can tell they were taking pride in the changes being made to the campground. The common areas and community room were nicely renovated with large outdoor fire pits and seating. Pastries and coffee were available in the store on weekends and regular events throughout the summer were scheduled. As a new campground/ownership, there were a few quirks that we experienced. Check in is all online and when you arrive you go directly to your site. There is no office, vehicle registration, or tags for the sites. This has its positives and potential drawbacks with monitoring who all is accessing, driving, and parking in the campground. A nice mix of sites exist, with some being cramped in, others more spacious, and some with odd placement of hookups which were tricky. They do have buddy sites for people traveling another family/rv. One issue that we did experience was the changing of the type of site we had booked. Several months prior when booking we booked a full hookup site. It wasn't until we checked in did we find out that we were moved to a water/electric only site for our stay. This was a bit of an inconvenience and when we called we were informed that they had to move a monthly customer to the full hookup site and they didn't have a sewer run to our new site yet, but there was a dump station onsite (not the same as a full hookup site). Overall the location is very nice with the trees and creek surrounding the campground. As the owners continue to make upgrades and changes to the campground I do see it becoming a great destination!

We were at site #14 right on the creek than runs through campground. They have a sweet deal if your local for seasonal use. We were from out of town, not full time RV but travel throughout US six months out of the year. If you go here don't forget to get some of the fresh fruit and tomatoes in season. We got huge heirloom tomatoes for 3 for $1. Unbelievable, they were so good. Reasonably priced, we paid $49 a night! Sell good dry firewood too!

My hubby and I wanted to do a shakedown with our camper as we have many trips on the calendar…read morescheduled for this season not to mention just get away for a few days. We've been to a number of KOA's and Yogi's over the years, so in 2020, I joined the KOA rewards as we will be hitting the road here in the next few years to enjoy our retirement. At the moment, we mostly camp in state parks, so we really don't need a whole lot. I took a chance and booked a premium patio site because the forecast was calling for rain and I didn't want to have to dry my stuff out as we live in a condo and keep our camper at an indoor storage facility. We were really excited to try this concept out since we were thinking if we met up with friends it would be neat to have seating and so forth. We were showed to our site by an employee as we couldn't park our camper at the entrance as there was a camper already checking in. We were told to park our camper and then when we were done, to check in at the store. So this patio site we are shown to which has been described as a table, chairs and a glider had three chairs on it only. No glider, no table. These sites come with a premium price which is a bit more than just a normal site. We definitely expected a table, which I was told would be provided on Saturday. The site next to us was never occupied and had a table and glider....we would have been so happy for the table at our site, but we didn't want to move furniture. So the night was fairly nice on Friday even though overcast....we ate in our trailer which was not the plan at all and not we signed up for. Even if this is a shakedown camp, we haven't really been able to enjoy the outdoors the whole winter! We did take our Solo Stove out and burn some wood after dinner along with make some S'mores. At least we had the chairs to sit in. I used the restroom twice there as we do have a camper with a bathroom. It was clean, however there was no soap in the compartment I was in. When I walked up there before leaving the campground, the compartment I went in that time had soap, but nothing to dry your hands. The staff was nice, but I didn't get the feeling that they thought that when you pay for the extras that there should be an expectation of it, especially when I brought up no table at check in, because I definitely mentioned that I had paid for the more expensive site. What I was told is they were extremely busy and while I do I understand busy because I work too, I have everything ready to go when it needs to be, especially if there are some elements that should be taken care of. I think there really should have been a priority on sites that were going to be used that weekend, especially when the one next to us was empty the whole time we were there and had a table which is really what we wanted.....we didn't care what kind, we just wanted to dine outside. Sites I feel are a bit tight, but I can't lie, I'm spoiled by the state parks. Lot of bang for your buck and the PA ones have amenities more so than where we come from in Maryland, to include ones with full hookups. There are a few farms close by which was nice and allowed us to get some fresh eggs to take home with us....very happy about that! There is also a winery that we have been to and that would be a nice outing if you are nearby. WiFi was amazing! We were able to stream a movie during a rainstorm Saturday evening. This was a plus. Our T-Mobile was not as strong to use our phone data. I really DO like supporting small family business and while this KOA is a franchise, they are also a family working a business. With that said though, when we pay for something, there is an expectation of getting it, especially when there is an additional cost. These are being billed on KOA's site as premium (and they are!), so for the money both of us felt rather slighted. A table at a commercial or state park site is a no brainer....we've had one at every park we have been to. I could have just booked a regular site and saved a bit of cash. We won't rule this one out again in the future, but for now the rest of our trips are mapped out. Maybe we will try again.
