On a recommendation from our super nice server at The Open Oven restaurant, we stopped in to Take a Hike to grad a pair from him. We we happy to see that they allow pets/dogs in the store so that one of us wasn't stuck in the car with the pups. The store has tons of great clothes, shoes, socks and other supplies you might want for hiking. Big names like Prana, North Face, Patagonia etc. He got a pair of shorts from the clearance section and I found a handy Kavu sling purse. Win-win

There is typically plenty of parking in the lot or nearby. Standard small town hours. The shop is clean and organized. They have a good sampling of outdoor gear. Lots of seasonal clothing, some camping gear and backpacks and some Knick knacks such as hydration tabs and stickers. There is a sale rack in back. Everything is very pricy as goes with outdoor gear shops especially small ones. I would still argue that it's pretty similar to the standard- not more expensive than REI or the like. I'd definitely recommend this place for a stop in. They have a nice curated selection. Plus it's always the season for a fun new outdoor toy to inspire you to get outside ;)

The bar has a lot of options for beer. Non-beer drinkers too. Surprising number for a small little shack. Lots of picnic tables to sit at and enjoy the weather. Little beach area and all within walking distance. Parking can get a little rough so be mindful.

French Broad Outfitters has you covered whether its hiking, tubing, or kayaking. Super helpful staff too! My family rented kayaks for the day and set out for the French Broad River. Staff took us by bus to our site to begin our roughly two hour adventure. You finish where you start. That's easier said than done if the river is running fast. Again staff is there to help all the way. I would do this again and highly recommend.

He didn't have any customers and ignored me while I stood in front of him. When Mark finished with a customer Cliff told him to help me. Once I chose my grips I told him I wanted to set an appointment to buy some new irons. He pointed to Cliff and said he was the one who does the fitting. Cliff looked at me and said, "Women do not need to be fitted. Only men. Men require different shafts, club weights.... women don't need any of this." I said, "Huh, that's unfortunate. I still want to be fitted." Cliff looked at his calendar and set an appointment for 3 weeks out. Then he came around from behind his counter and stood eye to eye with me. He asked me how tall I was and I told him 5' 6 1/2. (I was wearing flip flops). We were the same height and I suspect my arms were longer. I wish I had said to him, "huh, I suppose you were not fitted and you play with women's clubs." My father was an All American at Duke in Basketball and football. I've been athletic all my life but I reckon women all fit into the same box when it comes to Cliff. He mentioned he had been fitting clubs for people for 50 years. In my opinion he has been fitting men for 50 years. And, from my experience he has most likely been disrespectful and misogynistic towards women for 50 years. Will never go back and my golf pro instructor will not recommend him again.

Lets just take a moment to appreciate this kind Man, his charisma, and his service to our Country. With the world in such a state of affairs I realized it was time for me to get serious. I purchased a shogun for home protection and came here to learn the ins and outs of my firearm. Lane rental is $30 and Mr Jule gave me a personal assessment for no extra charge. What a guy. A year later I took my local CC class I came back to Mountain Range to train and learn more about 9mm's. They had a selection of rentals for me to choose from and once again I had a Lesson with Mr. Jule. I left feeling much more confident about not only my skill level but also which firearm I would be purchasing in the future. Highly recommend this place if you are a Female that wants to become familiar with firearms and get some practice in.
