I've come into the store twice, once last year and just this last week. Last year I came to pick up a pair of sandals (Tava's) for a reasonable price. I really appreciate the service I received last year while purchasing my sandals. The woman helping in the shoe department was extremely helpful and friendly, and guided me to the appropriate pair of sandals. It's been a year so she made a positive lasting impression. This year I picked up a hat with good coverage for my son's. Along with some souvenirs, my son wanted to bring home for his friends (Truckee stickers). Besides my positive experience, the store seems to have just about everything from grills, too fishing gear amongst other things that you would carry an Ace Hardware store. They also had a nice varying selection of said categories. At the checkout counter there was a younger girl who welcomed me and ready to answer questions, I bought my hat, and I was on my way. Sometimes a quick hardware run turns into an unexpected test of patience. On December 5, 2025 at around 5:15 PM, a friendly cashier called the manager over because two clearance items were incorrectly priced. One item wasn't marked at all, and the other showed a $10 sticker with an additional 50% off. When I scanned the barcode in the Ace Hardware app, the item rang up as $2.99, so I kindly requested a price match based on Ace's own listed pricing. The manager entered the interaction abruptly, avoided eye contact, and loudly exclaimed "What the F***"--a remark heard by several customers in nearby lines. This was both unprofessional and unnecessary. He then insisted the online price was inaccurate and attempted to charge an incorrect amount ($31.99!!), even after I showed the product information. I ultimately ordered the items for in-store pickup at the correct price, but the situation could have been resolved quickly and respectfully in the moment. I've included a photo with the serial number so this can be reviewed by leadership and handled more appropriately going forward. The rest of the staff was excellent; the issue was solely with the manager's conduct. I hope future visits to this location reflect the professionalism Ace is known for. read more

What a wonderful store! Just chock full of...well...you name it, if you can't find it here, they just don't make it. BBQ's, dishes, clothing, shoes & boots, auto products, fly fishing, timers, pet supplies, patio furniture, welding & power tools. You can find anything in here. I loved just walking around smelling the aromatic odors of leather, floral, oils & others. Employee's are great & super helpful. If they see you wondering around, they come up with a cheery "Hello, how can I help you?" And they seem to know every inch of the store. I'm a DIY guy and this place is fantastic! The folks there are always very helpful and they have tons of inventory to complete just about any project. They have some great clothing and holiday seasonal items too! Most recently we had a plumbing issue at home. I don't know much about plumbing so I went to Mountain Hardware and Luis helped me out. He found the part I needed and took the time to explain the fix to me, even lending me one of his tools. Went there to get a fishing license and some worms, as well as a few other items, great selection. The service was great, no complaints.

This place was a lifesaver for us! And they were super fair and helpful. We discovered the hard way that the chains we thought would fit our car... didn't. (A bad time to figure that out, we know!) With a drive down the mountain ahead of us, a snow storm coming in, and two kids in the car, we needed new chains. We expected a huge markup (which even would've been fair), but we found really reasonable prices and a comprehensive inventory of chains. Even more important, the staff stopped me checking out until they looked up my car and double-checked the fit. Turns out I had the right size this time, but I really appreciated them making sure! Because then, when we got stuck in the inevitable snowstorm later that day, and I was kneeling in the snow *in the lane* on I80 because traffic was just at a dead stop, I was able to get the new chains on my car and get the family safely down the mountain. read more

Alien tape. No, really, that's what it's called and I needed a roll for my front door to seal up the little gaps. I called ACE Mountain Hardware ( my local support village!) and 'Rob' checked to see if they carried it. They did not. But THIS is the part where ROB put on his 'Alien Tape Cape' . After offering to make me his own version( duct tape with little Alien drawings), he checked with the ACE located on Soaring Way....and they had one roll left! Hardware store nirvana! Whenever I'm visiting friends in Truckee and pass by this particular Ace hardware store, I'm always trying to come up with excuses to make a shopping stop. That's because I've been inside several times and have typically been blown-away. To be honest, I'm not really that much of a 'hardware store guy'. But when something needs repair and I'm in need of the right part or tool, I really appreciate a non-warehouse store with good organization & selection, as well as a highly competent staff that can solve my needs quickly. Mountain hardware is just such a place (Or so I've experienced when helping my friend J do repairs for his nearby home). On top of that, it ain't just hardware. They also carry a good selection of seasonal sports items (e.g. sleds, snow shovels, snowshoes in winter) and surprisingly nice casual clothing (incl. hats, outerwear, Kuhl brand shirts and sweaters). There are even some home decor items, kitchen tools and various unexpected odds and ends. So even after stopping for hardware items, we've often been distracted in these aisles as well. To me, Mountain Hardware is the closes thing to a 'general store" in the area. I'm headed back in Truckee in just a few weeks, so I'll be preparing more excuses! read more

Being an avid hardware store wanderer is a true problem here. I can't get out of this place for less than $200. I really only came to find a certain size of Terra Cotta pots. I will say they don't have a tone of those....but I found 7 in the size I needed, but would have bought 14. One of the employees was super helpful in trying to track more down in their inventory, but it just didn't exist. I could have left then because they are the first thing you see right before walking in the sliding doors...but nooooo....I had to keep going. There's home decor and fishing and paint and Yeti and rafting departments that called my name. Plus walking up and down looking for items for an industrial canvas curtain rod project I was doing. Almost every employee I saw offered help - but not in an annoying way. There's even eco Lavender Vanilla lip balm - I mean, come on! The only down side is that the pricing is a little high. So 1/2 star off for that LOL. But you can be sure I'll be returning. read more

Jake and Matthew probably spent more than an hour with me during two on-site visits and two phone calls, helping me figure out how to replace the cartridge in a kitchen sink faucet that probably hadn't been changed in at least 30 years. I was looking for a particular O-Ring for an old water softener online and thought I'd found it at this store. Since I live in Reno I wanted to call and have someone verify that they actually had it. I talked to a really pleasant guy in plumbing and not only did he verify it but offered to meet me in Reno to deliver it while on his way home north of Reno. So I just wanted to compliment Chase and his great attitude. Descent service is hard to come by these days but for a guy to go out of his way to help a stranger is way over and above decency. So I went up and met and thanked Chase. Ends up it was the wrong o-ring but chase and I dug through a case of them and came up with what ended up to be an o-ring that worked. By the way, Culligan wanted to sell me a whole new system because they couldn't or wouldn't order the part. Hopefully a store manager will read this and give Chase at least a pat on the back or maybe a raise cause he deserves one. He may have just saved me from having to replace my entire softener over a $3 o-ring. read more

This place has some of the cutest and unique knickknacks and collectibles any where in the Tahoe basin. Besides being a very well stocked hardware store, with a super friendly staff. There store is packed with a little of everything. There selection of work cloths is second to none, which also include variety of outdoors type foot ware for use here in the Sierras. It being a Ace hardware you might think of a regular hardware store, but this just doesn't do this particular hardware store justice. This place is almost a must see for anyone passing through. It's impossible to describe the feelings of relief when one thing goes your way after two days of awfulness. We got stuck in Truckee thanks to a monster storm that closed I-80 and every other route back to Tahoe and Reno, or forward through the pass west. Our SUV is big and beefy and has snow tires but those proved inadequate thanks to ice under the hard packed snow. So we called Mountain Hardware and while they were out of tire cables in our size, they did have heavy chains. We were a bit nervous as to whether we'd have clearance on our wheels for heavy chains but the guy on the phone reassuringly said that they had employees who knew about this stuff and could eyeball it and let us know. So we go to the store and first of all it's amazing. The perfect hardware and outdoor store for the Sierra Nevadas. Packed with great stuff at reasonable prices in this building with a comfy lodge vibe. So we find a nice employee (Nikki) who in turn calls over another employee with more tire chain knowledge (I forgot her name and for that I SUCK). She busts out her radio and calls Dan, the He-Man Super Expert in Tire Chains. And he remembers us from our phone cal and he's found and saved an open box of tire cables in our size!!! You guys? You guys are fantastic. Thanks so much for making an awful experience easier and safer and just plain better. read more

They have the most extensive BBQ and grilling accessories department but that is only a fraction of what this amazing store sells. As soon as I walked into the store with my wife and daughter I knew that we'd find everything and anything we might wish to buy. I found the perfect beer can grilling device for cooking chicken! My wife who has never worn a hat, bought a beautiful Nola Hat that will be a great way to protect her from the sun and my daughter who is heading to Burning Man in a few days, purchased all kinds of hiking paraphernalia from their extensive hiking department. This is the most extensive "hardware store" I have ever entered. Besides all the normal hardware items, it is replete with interesting and useful items to use or to decorate your home. The kitchen/dining room selections are first class. Most of the items have a mountain home theme befitting the store's location. The staff is invariably knowledgeable and friendly and helpful. Parking is in a large mall lot. We always stop in for a browse when we are in the neighborhood. read more
