Let me be the first to say that the negative review below is absolute garbage. I've been coming to this school for three years, I was one of the very first students, and I have seen nothing but professionalism and service from Master Danny and his staff. I don't know the full story here but I'm pretty sure I can tell you what happened based on my experience. When you enroll at the school you have the option of continuing on a month to month basis after your initial term. They explain why they do this, explain the cancellation policy, and you have to initial that specific paragraph that you understand and agree to it. In order to cancel, all you have to do is provide written notice. This is a standard among martial arts schools and gyms, I know AFF and several other gyms that do this. One of three things probably happened. 1) The customer called and was told she just needed to bring in written notice and she didn't. 2) The customer called and was told she needed to bring in written notice and she forgot. 3) The customer never called, didn't check her bank statement, and threatened to write negative reviews on the internet unless she gets her money back. :) I can pretty much guarantee it was #3 based on the review they left, the fact that this is their very first review on Yelp, and my billing problem I had this past spring. I won't go into full detail but basically I was going to be traveling a lot for work and I wasn't able to attend class so I froze my account. That next month I saw a charge on my bank statement. I called the school to let them know, they acknowledged it was an error on their end, and I received a refund check within 2-3 days of the phone call. Based on my own experience I can tell you that review was either written by a competitor or a former customer who never followed the process they agreed to and is now writing negative reviews on the internet hoping Master Danny sees it and gives her a refund. Either way, shame on you for fabricating a story to make a great business look terrible. My experience here has been great. Mountain Kim is a great school and they are light years ahead of the competition in terms of being professional. If you don't believe me, go see for yourself. My now 8 year old daughter started Tae Kwon Do at the end of June when she was 5.5 years old. By the time she started school that fall she had decided (and told her class in an "All About Me" project) that her goal was to get her black belt. She has nearly reached her goal! Her instructors have always worked hard to identify her strengths and where she needs extra help, to keep her motivated, and to advance her at an appropriate rate. She's really enjoyed the classes and I have appreciated seeing how Master Danny, Jacob, and the Instructors have all worked to change their approach to teaching as class sizes have changed, belt levels varied, and different ages were represented in the classes over time. They talk to the parents and have conducted surveys to see what works and what doesn't and we've seen changes in response. When a student has struggled with burn out or indifference, they've worked to get them appropriate breaks or develop personalized "plans" to help keep them on track. As with any small business, there have been some administrative hiccups, but any issues have been resolved quickly and responsively. Master Danny's Mountain Kim is easily the best martial arts school in the area. I have been studying martial arts for over ten years and have experience with many different instructors and martial arts schools. Of all my experiences, Master Danny's Mountain Kim has been the most well run of any school I have trained at. Not only this but Master Danny and his staff are very comprehensive teachers. They will take the time that is necessary to help any student improve mentally and physically no matter their age or ability. I would recommend this school to anyone who is interested in martial arts. They offer a variety of martial arts with programs tailored to all age groups. This school is growing and improving consistently since it opened and is an opportunity that no one should pass up. If you're at all interested in starting to study martial arts, getting back into it, or finding a new place to train, I highly recommend going to Master Danny's Mountain Kim. read more

My son has been attending Mt Kim 17 for over a year and a half. He started off doing a couple days a week to now attending before/after care and practicing taeknowdo every day. He even looks forward to the monthly Ninja nights. He enjoys it so much. He is learning about self control, discipline, as well as self-esteem. And the friends he is making outside of his normal cycle is great to see. The changes I have seen in just this year is amazing. He realizes what he exhibits in taeknowdo also must be exhibited at school as well as home. The staff is committed to not only provided a disciplined and respectful environment but also a fun and learning one too. After 2 years of shopping around in the area, we settled on Mt. Kim. The instructors are great with the kids and are very tolerant. When we first started, my son was in with the older kids and my daughter was in Tiny Tigers. Both flourished and learned so much. Fast forward 2 years: My son has since decided that martial arts isn't his thing, but my daughter is still going, 4 times a week. Sure we've had our hiccups, but this school keeps getting better and better. Master Danny is a wonderful man and his school is proof of how much he really loves what he does. I highly recommend any of the Mt Kim schools as they truly are the best of the best. read more

The concentration of the children during belt testing is amazing to watch, they seem relaxed while waiting their turn, they cheer their teammates which is very positive for those testing. When each group is called up for testing the change in the child's persona shifts into a serious face and stance. It makes a parent proud to watch their child perform with such diligence and obedience. My kids have been with Mt. Kim for several years now and my daughter Jadyn will be going for her black belt on February 28, 2015. My kids love Mt. Kim hence the reason we have been with them for so long! Jadyn is only 12 and so we are totally excited for her to be testing for her black belt already! After looking at other schools in the area, I'd given up. We found Mt. Kim by chance and I'm so glad we did! Each class has been challenging for my children, but not discouraging. They have so much fun learning lessons they'll use for the rest of their lives. I started taking classes, too. I've gained so much strength! This is a great alternative to going to the gym and you learn something a lot more useful than running on the treadmill. read more

I've been attending Mountain Kim for quite some time, here's my review. Pros: Large facility (3000+ sq ft.) Friendly and knowledgable staff Wide class selection and flexible schedule Family friendly Proven program (40+ years in the Northern VA area) Cons: Dealing with Route 17 traffic Noise (They have very high ceilings which tends to echo noise) Overall it's a great school, I recommend you come check it out. read more

After moving across country, I found Mt. Kim by chance. I signed my son up for a free lesson promotion and afterwards immediately signed him up to continue with classes. After 2.5 years he is a step away from being a black belt. The instructors know exactly how to get your child motivated. They figure out what works for every individual. They are a God send. Fantastic TaeKwon Do program for children and adults! The instructors are professional and motivating. My daughter has gained so much confidence in the 2 years that she has been taking classes here. An excellent martial arts school. I live within five minutes of two other schools and think it's a better value to drive 30 minutes to Mountain Kim Fredericksburg.
