My favorite part of the club is the bar. Not just for the booze, but because of the bartender there. This guy is probably in his 50's, and always brightens up the mood. Complete smart ass, but funny as hell none the less. I also truly enjoy that there is a pool table as well as a bowling alley. Gives one something to do if they find themselves bored. My complaints? A few: 1. The food is average. For the price one pays to be part of the club, I would expect more. 2. The club never seems to have an abundance of people, especially of the younger variety. Of course, the age group is of personal taste. 3. Of the people I have met there, there are a few that I would consider snobby in the least. But, what can you expect, it's a wealthy town, and you will always find people such as this in one. A good neighborhood club, but certainly not the best. read more

Recently met a member for drinks and dinner at the club and was pleasantly surprised. The best kept secret in northern New Jersey has got to be this place! While the building and grounds are slightly above average looking, the service and food are definitely superior to any country club in the area. I started with a tomato and mozzarella appetizer (very fresh) and my friend ordered the seared ahi tuna appetizer. Sliced tuna shingles with various Asian inspired garnishes such as seaweed salad, wasabi, diced avocado. Almost too pretty to eat but after one bite, all bets were off. Easily one of the best appetizers on the menu. I had the pork chop which was thick and juicy and my buddy had the salmon, blackened. Could have been a little spicier for me, but tasty nonetheless. We shared bananas foster for dessert-prepared tableside. Bring the kids for this one, they'll love it. After dinner we went downstairs to the bar for a nightcap and were greeted by Ed, a guy that really loves his job and his "office" which overlooks the lake. I had a Remy (served warm - yummy) and my host had an ice cold beer, Stone IPA I believe. We ended up staying and chatting with the bartender, a funny guy, and a few other members who were there for a quick bite at the bar. Yes, bar food in a country club! They wouldn't stop raving about the burgers! Dress is casual but neat. I was a little overdressed but felt right at home after removing my jacket and tie. All in all it was a great experience. Based on my visit, I look forward to returning. Next time I'll leave the suit and tie at home. read more

I went to this club for a group function and I wan't very impressed. They didn't have enough seating for everyone attending... the room was crowded... and they had no coffee!!! read more

My family and I have been members of the MLC for 4 years now. My boys love the pool, beach, boating, and fishing activities that the club offers! My husband and I love the relaxing scenic view of the lake watching sailboats and kids on kiddie kayaks go by. There is often pool side live entertainment, movies poolside, and barbeques. In the other seasons, the club offers an impressive list of activities from bingo, lazer tag, and movie nights for the kids. The Circa 1914 Restaurant has a new chef and the food has been the best I've had at the club! For what I pay to be a member, I definitely feel like I'm getting a bargain. read more

I recently attended a wedding here. The cocktail hour was on a terrace overlooking the lake, and the ballroom was really pretty and also had a view of the lake. The food was great, especially the mini sliders and the crepe station at cocktail hour. Definitely some of the best food I've had at a wedding in recent memory. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY EVENT TO BE HELD HERE! my fiance and i were on the search for a wedding venue and fell in love with the atmosphere of MLC. Unfortunately the management there is extremely unprofessional and rude. They are unreliable, unhelpful, and unavailable. When trying to meet with the manager Linda we were left with her coworker Patricia who was even more of a nightmare. She proceeded to hand us a copy of our wedding contract with the WRONG DATE, WRONG ADDRESS, AND WRONG NAME with numerous other errors. When mentioning the errors to her she was defensive and rude, making us sound like we were the ones at fault. A simple apology and respect would have kept our business there, but that was clearly asking for too much. This is sorry excuse for an establishment. Save yourselves the headache and book your event anywhere else but here. read more

I'm writing this because there's one review for the Mountain Lakes Club that appears, and it's a one star review from an attendee complaining about not enough space for the party she attended, and no coffee. I think this Yelper should be complaining to the person who hosted the party or event. I cannot believe they didn't know the number of invited attendees who could be comfortably seated at the Club, and it was up to them to select the beverages served. To give the Club one star for something the host selected is unfair, in my opinion. I have been to the Mountain Lakes Club many times - for dinner and for events, and have always had a great experience. In fact, my husband and I are seriously considering an annual membership and we're looking into hosting an event there as well. If the food was lousy, the coffee bad, the service poor, or the facility itself in poor shape, then yes, that's a fair review. If it's a party and the host tried to cram too many people into a venue or didn't order coffee, is it the fault of the Mtn. Lakes Club? I have no allegiance to MLC, but fair is fair, and I've been delighted with my experiences at the Club. read more

The last event I personally held there was two years ago, and it went perfectly, from the planning, to the service and the food. The Mountain Lakes Club has been a memorable and very special place for many decades since I was a kid, for family events, class reunions and gatherings, until now. Don't waste your time till they replace the new management with new management. Their poor communication seems risky for planning an important upcoming event. read more

I just hosted an anniversary party for my parents on Saturday night at the club and I could not have been more happy with the services and atmosphere. Kyp and Linda were fantastic to work with and everything went off without any hitch. That includes a complicated video presentation, music, etc. The food from the appetizers, plated dinner and bar were outstanding. I had the summer salad which was perfectly dressed and had the freshest ingredients. For the main course, the sesame crusted salmon with jullianned vegetables was superb. Perfect portion sizes and not greasy or over cooked. All the courses had a high quality presentation and exceptional service from the wait staff. They have a good sized dance floor and beautiful view of the lake. All the guests felt right at home and hardly wanted to leave. In fact, finding this gem in northern NJ and having had such a wonderful experience there has inspired me to pursue an annual membership. I returned back to Mountain Lakes last month for my 40th HS reunuion from the Mt lakes class of 1974. i have known of the club for quite a number of years and over the past 12 years have enjoyed some fine meals there with family and friends. The view of the lake is AMAZING! The club room upstairs went through a major renovation 8 to 10 years ago. They did a beautiful job, good size dance floor very nice decor. Over the years the first casuality is the carpet, Sorry guys need to change the carpet worn out in some areas and needs a cleaning badly. Chairs are out dated, For the price we paid for dinner there, there should be nicer looking chairs, or at least cover them with chair covers. Being a chef for 40 years and owning my own banquet House in Southern California, Comes the culinary end of my review. Presentation average at best. Eye apeal to a buffet is a must, there was none at all. Now the foods. I did not taste the salad, so i will not comment. Pasta was excellent, Great flavor with the sauce and the pasta was cooked perfectly. Vegetables were nicely cooked but way under seasoned. The Beef strip was cooked perfectly ,again, no sauce served with it and not seasoned. carved turkey was very dry and again no sauce only cranberry relish. Did not eat the ice cream desert table. The Mountain lakes Country club lies in a very wealthy town whose members have the monies to support a 5 star establishment. We all understand you have limited grounds to work with, so the grounds not much can be done with it. The lake view especially from a brides point for pictures and backdrop A+++++. With the price the club charges for usage for events, no excuse for worn out carpet and out dated chairs and a culinary buffet that was slightly above average. The bar area with about 100 guests was nice, drinks were what i expected at any establishment, 7 dollars to 8 dollars for mixed drinks. The club could easily be 5 star with that view and that beautiful town it is located in. Just more care in the carpet and chairs and the culinary foods would bring this facility to 5 stars. Ill be back next year to visit family and friends and hopefully the Mt lakes club has reached its full potential. Best of luck read more

I last went to the Mountain Lakes Club on Memorial Day. I thought the food was relatively good but the burgers were a little brunt though. I thought the buffet line was not moving fast enough. At the bar the bar tender was nice but getting people drinks was way to slow. The pool was pretty nice but at times there too many people in it. The lake was nice but the sand area was small. We played tennis and the tennis courts were nice enough but not for the price to be a member. Even though there the town is wealthy but I felt there was not many people from Mountain lakes. The service was slow and it felt like my friends daughter waited a half an hour for her pitcher of water. Also the mangetment seem friendly but the manager wasn't even there. I did like it there because of the beauty of the town and I'm willing to try it again. read more
