This year my friends and family rented the entire place and it was awesome. In the last 5 years since Edie & Doug took over, the place has transformed for the better and you can see the changes and improvements every year. This year I had 34 friends and family with me. I had cousins aged 2 to my grandfather (papa) aged 84! We had a great family vacation and all look forward to doing it again next year. I knew all it would take is getting my family up here once. Let me explain everything you need to know about the place and then you make your decision! -The place is NOT new, but renovations and improvements every year! New TVs this year! :-) -It is a little bit campy but in all the awesome ways! -Some of the units are nicer then others but they all have their own charm! -Your refrigerator in your room might be from the 60's, they work just fine & once again charm! -The owners and operators - Edie & Doug are friendly and accommodating ! -This place IS doggy friendly! Only 1 unit doesn't allow dogs! -There is a communal deck in the back and the views are magnificent! -There is a Marina next door called Beacon Landing that rents boats, slips, etc. -Every unit is equipped with pots, pans, silverware, glasses, etc. (don't need to pack these)! -There is a variety of water crafts - paddle boards, canoes, paddle boat, kayaks (all free)! -You are 10 minutes from Grand Lake, shopping & restaurants! -The place is "most times" water front, depends on lake water levels which they don't control IGNORE the previous post as the Lodge/Resort have NO control over the water levels of Lake Granby! While we were there the water levels were at peak and this was 7/29/16-8/1/16. The Lake was about 10 feet from the fire pit. 2 or 3 years ago the water levels were low and you had to walk to the lake. It doesn't take away from the views and once again they have NO control over water levels in Lake Granby!

I guess I wasn't friendly enough because the place wanted to kick me out even though I didn't break any rules. I was just not friendly because I was grieving. All I needed was a place to grieve in peace until I figured out my next move. But they couldn't give that to me. When I asked about changing reservations, they asked how soon can I leave? I've never been asked that before even on a good day. Come to find out the woman has a reputation in town for being rude and driving people out of the park. Congratulations, you got one more.

Really love the bathrooms with dual sinks and the water pressure was really good in the showers. The bed was a little lumpy in the rooms we were in and the bed itself was very soft... There were some knicks and marks in the rooms too so I think they might need a little refresh soon. The mattresses in the rooms we were in really needed to be replaced. Good location and easily walkable to main street. Very easy access to get into the parking from the HWY and they have a Starbucks inside the property. Overall we had a great stay and will consider to stay again when we're in Black Hawk.

Some pros and cons from our stay (room 1014): PROS: - the promo included lowest room rate and $20 dining credit per day. A genuinely good deal for the price - the restaurant offers on site are pretty decent, varied, and reasonably priced for BH - staff was 50/50. Literally half were welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly, while the other half was borderline rude or incompetent - the amenities were a nice perk, including a rooftop pool, and two hot tubs (1 indoor 1 outdoor) - the room and bathroom were very spacious with both a shower AND a garden tub - there were public restrooms available in the hallway - the casino floor feels spacious and there is a good variety of slot machines and table games CONS: - Communication in general is very lacking: When we walked into our room there was no literature to showcase on site dining options, WiFi password, or amenities' hours/logistics. The room service menu is not available in the Penn app nor is much information provided about one's stay. We finally found a brochure at the front desk when we went to inquire about where to find a "do not disturb" hang tag (the app live chat was useless for any room information). Room service is upon request only, that info is also not available unless asking a front desk attendant. I requested a Penn play card for gambling, the attendant did not explain how to use it, so it took us two days to realize the card must be inserted in the slots the entire time you play to track usage. You can remove it only AFTER you cash out. - It's extremely frustrating to use the Penn play cards at the machines. We had to constantly try again and again as most readers do not see a card has been inserted. Some machines we completely gave up on... - The room was TIRED (both beds had mattresses which sunk from damage/overuse, both headboards had peeling faux leather behind the pillows, there was random scotch tape on the walls and some holes/dings, the toilet's door jam was coming loose from the wall, bathroom was not extremely clean (heavy dust coating on baseboards, hair on bathroom counter, etc) - Of of 6 elevators to the tower: 4 had broken LCD screens (making it difficult to determine at which level the car would stop), 2 made very concerning cable car noises (we begun avoiding them), all 6 were unsecured (guest key card access on cars was disabled; letting ANY casino patrons access the room floors) - the pool deck has posted adults only hours (daily 7-11pm) however, despite various staff walk through a dozen children were still splashing about at 8:30pm on Friday night - the vending machine on the pool deck was out of service and drinks ordered poolside through the QR code available on tables was not delivered to the pool deck (despite note of location in order) - the ice machine on floor 10 was out of order and no microwave was available in the rooms (or in the vending room) making it impossible to get takeout if one got tired of in house options. A microwave in the vending room would be a great addition - ambient music in the casino was great mid-week throughout until on Friday night at around 8pm it was set to blast and was along with the ambient slots noise it was no longer enjoyable. We left the floor shortly after - wait staff on the casino floor was scarce both on weekdays and weekends. It didn't seem they were circulating much, and when they did come by, they often skipped us (we are not big drinkers, so it was fine for us, but it left us feeling un-welcomed). Interestingly enough, for both drinks I ordered during my stay (handed a $5 bill for tip) I was asked if I wanted any change back :-/ - the floral scent that's pumped through the AC units on the casino floor can quickly become overwhelming and a bit nauseating. I understand casinos do this to cover up odors and have a 'signature scent' however a lighter less floral aroma may be a better choice Overall a good value for us (over low-occupancy days and with a good promotion) and a change of pace for a fun few days away from the hustle and bustle of city living.

Extremely family friendly. It is very Colorado vibe. You can hang out at the pool (open year round), relax and get a spa treatment, choose from a list of outdoor activities or just hang out and read a book in the lodge. All of that was included. The rooms were old, but nice. Bunk for the kids and queen bed for us. We stayed in one of the lodges. There was a common room with a fireplace and some games we utilized, too. We had a mini fridge and microwave. We used those for storing breakfast and lunch items and the microwave for popcorn at night. Was a nice stay! The cross country skiing trails were great, even with the limited snow that this year has brought. Great workout and loads of fun. We did that with our kids for a few hours each day (January stay).

Ours especially enjoyed the summer sledding hill. The zip line was also popular, as were horseback riding and mini golf. It is now late season and a number of activities were closed - canoes, the pool. However there was so much to do, we did not really miss these. There was so much we didn't get to but ran out of time -- craft room, roller-skating, hikes. There are restaurants available. The place is beautiful, can't wait to go back for fall leaf season or winter sports.

Cherokee Park Ranch is AMAZING! The ranch has a fascinating history and is known as one of the first guest ranches in Colorado. During the late 1880's it was a colorful stage coach stop between Fort Collins, Colorado and Laramie, Wyoming. Incoming guests had to chance Indian confrontations and the rates were only $8.00 per week! Now Indian hostilities are nonexistent but the Western character of the ranch remains. The park is owned by the Prince family - Dick, Christine, Thomas, Elise, Townsend, and Emily Prince. The property boasts over 10 guest cabins, a swimming pool, about 125 horses, and an AMAZING staff! Typically, guests make week-long reservations for a true vacation on the ranch. They plan a ful schedule for you everyday and offer options for you to choose, ranging from: Horseback riding, Skeet shooting, Nature Walks, Fly Fishing, Painting Lessons, White Water Rafting, Rodeos, Rock Climbing, Country Western Dancing Lessons, Mountain Biking, swimming in the pool, billiards, and much much more. I have to say, that owners Christine and Dickie go above and beyond the call of duty for ensuring that their guests have a fun and safe time while at their ranch. EVERY aspect of hospitality is considered and well executed at this ranch! All 25+ members of their employees work super hard to ensure a great experience at the ranch. We had 50 guests in our group/cohort - ranging from 2 - 80. Here's my highlight of my vacation: Horseback riding: The ranch owns over 125 horses (NO leased horses) and offers half day or all day rides every day. The ranch welcomes ALL ability riders from never-touched-a-horse to born in the saddle. I went horseback riding 6 of the 7 days that I spent at the ranch. Each of the rides were original, and showed off the beautiful landscape of the Colorado waters, meadows, mountains, and scenery. The ranch offers short morning and afternoon rides (2 -3 hours, your choice) or an all-day ride (approximately 6 hours). I opted for the all day rides and was AMAZED with the nice trails that the ranch had chosen for their guests. Guests can choose from walking rides, to trotting (where the horse does a bit of a prance), to Loping (actual gallup). Cherokee Park Ranch is one of the few ranches in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah that offer Loping riding (because of liability reasons). The wranglers at the ranch gave me lessons, so I went from a walk-only kind of rider to Lopoing the meadows of the Colorado mountains! Extra kudos go to my two favorite wranglers - Jordan (North Carolina) and Olivia (Virginia?) - you both made it a wonderful trip! LOVE IT! Every meal is inclued in the cost of your stay. The ranch hired Chuck from Tennessee to be the head chef this summer. Chuck owned several restaurants in TN and cooked up some amazing meals including: Fall off the bone beef ribs, bacon wrapped fillet mignon, baked salmon, chicken pot pie, & beef pot roast. One of my favorites were the home-made chocolate creme brulee and snickerdoodle cookes (and brownies, Colorado chocolate snaps, lemon bars). Amazing food, amazing wait staff. The food was so good here, I wanted to slap my grandma! Guest Rodeo: At the end of the week, all guests are required to showcase their horse-riding skills by competing in home-ranch rodeo. All 50 guests line up to do barrel racing, pole bending, and keyhole riding (all at your own speed). Both kids and adults participate and cheered on by all members of the staff! The ranch times you and hands out 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons at the end of the week. SUPER FUN! They even include a pie eating contest and a boot run (where everyone contributes one boot to the pile and has to run to put it on and cross the finish line). SUPER FUN! What I especially liked about this ranch was that they warmly welcomed children. This is perhaps the only ranch in Colorado where they have kids programs all day long. There are three staff members assigned to help entertain the children while the adults go off and enjoy the day. Activities include riding "Rodney" who is a 27 year old miniature horse (ages 2-5), arts and crafts (horseshoe painting, bead making, tiedye, etc), sleeping over night in a kid's-only slumber party in a HUGE Teepee, horseback riding (ages 6-12), nature walks, and much more. The ranch setting uniquely has no electronic interruptions - so leave your cell phones and computers at home. You won't need them here! To the owners, Christine and Dickie - you have an AMAZING thing going on here! No wonder 86% of your guests are return customers!
