Clean rooms, indoor rooftop pool and hot tub... great service from all the staff and employees. Resort fee is $25/room per day but parking is free and the rooms are spacious. Really love the bathrooms with dual sinks and the water pressure was really good in the showers. The bed was a little lumpy in the rooms we were in and the bed itself was very soft... There were some knicks and marks in the rooms too so I think they might need a little refresh soon. The mattresses in the rooms we were in really needed to be replaced. Good location and easily walkable to main street. Very easy access to get into the parking from the HWY and they have a Starbucks inside the property. We took advantage of the HOT STREAK, COOL DEALS Ameristar promo for a 3-day staycation in Black Hawk. It was nice to get away for a few days and see/do something fun. Some pros and cons from our stay (room 1014): PROS: - the promo included lowest room rate and $20 dining credit per day. A genuinely good deal for the price - the restaurant offers on site are pretty decent, varied, and reasonably priced for BH - staff was 50/50. Literally half were welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly, while the other half was borderline rude or incompetent - the amenities were a nice perk, including a rooftop pool, and two hot tubs (1 indoor 1 outdoor) - the room and bathroom were very spacious with both a shower AND a garden tub - there were public restrooms available in the hallway - the casino floor feels spacious and there is a good variety of slot machines and table games CONS: - Communication in general is very lacking: When we walked into our room there was no literature to showcase on site dining options, WiFi password, or amenities' hours/logistics. The room service menu is not available in the Penn app nor is much information provided about one's stay. We finally found a brochure at the front desk when we went to inquire about where to find a "do not disturb" hang tag (the app live chat was useless for any room information). Room service is upon request only, that info is also not available unless asking a front desk attendant. I requested a Penn play card for gambling, the attendant did not explain how to use it, so it took us two days to realize the card must be inserted in the slots the entire time you play to track usage. You can remove it only AFTER you cash out. - It's extremely frustrating to use the Penn play cards at the machines. We had to constantly try again and again as most readers do not see a card has been inserted. Some machines we completely gave up on... - The room was TIRED (both beds had mattresses which sunk from damage/overuse, both headboards had peeling faux leather behind the pillows, there was random scotch tape on the walls and some holes/dings, the toilet's door jam was coming loose from the wall, bathroom was not extremely clean (heavy dust coating on baseboards, hair on bathroom counter, etc) - Of of 6 elevators to the tower: 4 had broken LCD screens (making it difficult to determine at which level the car would stop), 2 made very concerning cable car noises (we begun avoiding them), all 6 were unsecured (guest key card access on cars was disabled; letting ANY casino patrons access the room floors) - the pool deck has posted adults only hours (daily 7-11pm) however, despite various staff walk through a dozen children were still splashing about at 8:30pm on Friday night - the vending machine on the pool deck was out of service and drinks ordered poolside through the QR code available on tables was not delivered to the pool deck (despite note of location in order) - the ice machine on floor 10 was out of order and no microwave was available in the rooms (or in the vending room) making it impossible to get takeout if one got tired of in house options. A microwave in the vending room would be a great addition - ambient music in the casino was great mid-week throughout until on Friday night at around 8pm it was set to blast and was along with the ambient slots noise it was no longer enjoyable. We left the floor shortly after - wait staff on the casino floor was scarce both on weekdays and weekends. It didn't seem they were circulating much, and when they did come by, they often skipped us (we are not big drinkers, so it was fine for us, but it left us feeling un-welcomed). Interestingly enough, for both drinks I ordered during my stay (handed a $5 bill for tip) I was asked if I wanted any change back :-/ - the floral scent that's pumped through the AC units on the casino floor can quickly become overwhelming and a bit nauseating. I understand casinos do this to cover up odors and have a 'signature scent' however a lighter less floral aroma may be a better choice Overall a good value for us (over low-occupancy days and with a good promotion) and a change of pace for a fun few days away from the hustle and bustle of city living. read more

We tried Ameristar after a couple bad experiences at Monarch, with our first time at Monarch being great but going downhill fast. We had an absolutely AMAZING time at Ameristar! To start, we got a spa suite for 2 nights and it was equivalent of a very high end apartment. Other "spa suites" I've stayed at in Black Hawk were nice, but they were just basic rooms with a hot tub in them. This felt like a home away from home. The staff were incredibly courteous and helpful. The bartenders and dealers were also attentive and fun to talk to. I regret not trying any of the dining options, as we had plans for dinner already, but we plan to try some again our next stay (I've heard great things about Jinya) We also really enjoyed the rooftop hot tub and pool. The temperature was perfect and I swam several laps during my stay. There are so many amenities. I Will be back here soon! read more

A fine location in Black Hawk, Colorado. Canyon views. A mountain feel. The pool was fabulous. I was there during the Memorial Day weekend and it didn't seem too busy. Hardly any screaming children. Outside rooftop deck with firepits were relaxing. Casino was decent. Spotty restaurants to choose from with some being good and others not so good. You take what you can get I suppose. I noticed it is somewhat of a food desert in the early morning hours from 3am to 7am. Overall a nice getaway from the big city. A mixture of spar relaxing, gambling and food. 4 stars! read more

First time stay at the Ameristar Black Hawk and I had a great experience and time! This is my bestie's favourite casino and she frequents it often. She suggested we all go up for a couple of days to hang out and relax and rejuvenate since my first visit to Black Hawk involved a birthday celebration, too many shots, and no good memories. We arrived during a rush so valet and the front desk was a bit hectic. Valet was missing Sergei who would have made sure everything was running smoothly. The front desk was swamped with a line of about 15-20 guest groups. They recovered by bringing out a couple more desk clerks and the line moved quickly and we got up to our room. The two queen room was on a high floor away from the elevator. The rooms are spacious as is the bathroom. Love that the rooms have a water closet for privacy. I love the mission-style decor throughout the hotel, casino, and rooms. Our first night included a spectacular dinner at Timberline (which I already reviewed). We received excellent food and service at Timberline. I would go back in a heartbeat! After dinner we sat in the bar and enjoyed cocktails and the DJ spinning. Music and atmosphere were on point. The bestie is the gambler in the family so we headed up to the room and called it a night. Bed and pillows were so comfy and loved that the AC got the room nice and chilled. Slept great. The next day we enjoyed the pool and hot tubs on the 34th floor. It was perfect hot rubbing weather: rainy and chilly. We chatted with some nice people also partaking of the amenities. We followed up by having lunch at Fireside Kitchen and enjoyed another great meal. Our server was great and our food was delivered by a robot which was hilarious! My friend even brought me to this "club 48" to eat dinner one night while we were there, though I have to admit I was quite disappointed that the food overall was very "meh." (Now with $25 a day resort fee ) Love relaxing at the rooftop pool and outdoor hot tub ... 7pm -11 adults only which is nice for us seniors.... But unfortunately no one enforces It. The phones in the room wouldn't call the desk, the cell service is awful, their app didn't work, you couldn't charge to the room, and when we asked for support in getting our luggage, it felt like they were not even listening to our request. They have "preferred" customer lines and assist those individuals before you, even if you were present first. I get preferred treatment, but create special lines for them. The rooms were nice. It's a nice casino, can't complain. Ample parking and quick elevators. Check was easy and quick. The pool area is nice and well kept. The jacuzzi's are kept a little too hot. Not sure the temperature, but even on a cold day. The outdoor one was too hot to be there over 5 minutes. The space is a little limited and they should add a second. The rooms are clean and the double beds were extremely comfortable. The 5 piece bath was a nice touch. As for the machines, AI and computer games seem to be a rip. The odds at this hotel are not the greatest and the machines pick up an algorithm on your betting. I have pictures of examples. Overall it's worth the visit to stay overnight. To gamble, skip it. I love this place. I could stay here every weekend and if you sign up for their program, you might just get to I pay about $21 a night for resort fee and that's it but I do gamble so they love me. They have some great restaurants but they're not always open so be careful. Great place if you live in Colorado for a getaway if you're just stopping through the mountains, they are kid and dog friendly. Just gotta be careful not to take them on the casino floor. This was my second visit to Ameristar and both were great visits. I love the big bar and it's a great place to watch a game or meet and talk to people. The bar tender took care of our group and was on top of his game even though it was busy. It was Thursday and the first football game of the year so a lot of people watching as well as those that were just playing the slots. The woman at the front desk blew us off and left us to deal with the nasty smoke. Our last night I kindly asked if the pit boss could call up to the front desk and see if the hotel could comp late checkout. Front desk said they wouldn't and I had to pay for it. I love going to ameristar for a little stay cation from the city. It's a nice little getaway to gamble, enjoy the spa & pool and be in a mountain town just about 30/45 min out of Denver. The casino is always clean, the staff is friendly and it has a great atmosphere. I didn't stay at the hotel on this visit - just a quick visit to see if there was anything new. They do still send me free rooms but after that last stay, I haven't wanted to use them. The poker room wasn't empty but it definitely wasn't as bustling as it used to be. I played slots in a couple of different areas but didn't see much that was new or interesting and drink service continues to be slow to non-existent. Ameristar has such good potential, and it's a beautiful casino, that it's a real shame that I don't feel valued there. I have never dealt with such an incredibly unprofessional establishment in my life. I was charged $400 for a "complimentary room". When i called, they told me there was absolutely nothing they could do and that I had booked the room during "black out dates" that I didn't see at all. Well our experience was was horrible from the parking to checkout! First the idiots that had parked in the parking lot at the casino; couldn't seem to park straight! Came back out and I had a huge door ding from the car park next to me! The entire check-in process was OK just OK. We had to give them a drivers license for the luggage cart! Once we got to our room from the first glance, it looked great. However, once we started to investigate, let me show you pictures of what we found... First off there was blood stains on the ceiling! Second, there was warped furniture, a very low flow toilet that needed to be flushed three times after you used the bathroom! And last but not least a lightbulb was burned out! When it came time to check out; our room key wouldn't work at a 10:45! So I asked the maid if we could get in to the room obviously she didn't speak English. She said you have to go to the front desk. Wait she typed on her phone you have to go to the front desk! it took us 30 to 45 minutes to get a manager to even look at us let alone help us get into our room! They got our room key redone; and once we got to the room room service knocked on our door two minutes after we got into our room and said you gotta get out! The amenities were OK the food at the Firestone Grill or whatever the name of the restaurant was was absolutely disgusting! The sausage tasted like rubber the eggs look like they were four days old and the country style potatoes were soggy, not crispy! Don't stay here ever! Oh, I do wanna add one more thing there were bugs on my pillowcase! When I called after we returned home, we were hurried out of the room so quickly that my man forgot his $233 inhaler! So today I had to go pick up a new one because they claim they never found one in our room. I promised you it was there! All in all a decent experience. Buffet was pretty over priced for the selection it had. Guess we were just paying for crab legs for other tables. We didn't use both our tickets. We also had just water and still it was about $60/ person. But we tried the fireside grill the next morning and they had reasonable prices and amazing food. After a fun night gambling and such we came back to our room to wind down the evening. Expecting somewhat of a decent shower the shower was freezing, I could barely even say it was warm. I reported this and they said they only patrol the parking decks once a day. They should be patrolling the deck once a hour to best protect visitors and keep the rift raft out. We stayed at the Ameristar Blackhawk and that was some good some bad. The good was the room. It was large and clean. The bed was a bit firm but the pillows were nice! The only downside was the tv guide did not work very well. It had the channels but no guide as to what was on. Strange! Still the room gets good marks. The casino was large with many slots. The Sportsbook was quite nice and we watched a hockey game there in comfort. But the slots were quite tight and not much fun to play. That distracts from a good rating at least in my view. The grill restaurant was okay though the service was not so good. The waiter seemed overworked which was a small problem although the food for breakfast was decent enough. My problem is that the casino itself left a lot to be desired. Had the slots been looser the rating would have gone up. It's nice enough that with improvement it could be great but at least this time it was not what we expected especially when we went elsewhere and had a blast! read more

The worst experience and customer service in Blackhawk, CO. Overpriced, dirty, and unfriendly service, from the door greeter and up to the Assistant Manager Michelle. Drove up on a snowy Sunday 02/04/2024 under the impression that we had a comp night but to our bitter surprise customer service or more so the lack thereof customer care, ended up having to book a Romance Package that cost us $300. That was after booking three reservation. The first and third reservations, were supposed to be a comp for two days each and although these were canceled due to unforeseen and unreasonable booking fees and costs payment, the hotel still processed it as comps and deducted those comp stays from our account even though we did not stay. The second booking we were forced to book a Romance Package that was overly priced for a Monday, and which included $200 food promo at the disappointing Fireside Kitchen. Our first getaway together as a couple turned to be a hell of a stressful logistical back and forth with the front desk and assistant manager. Never ever going to Ameristar again.
