My partner and I stayed here a few years ago and the new ownership has let the place go downhill. It was so bad we left after one night and forfeited the next two nights payment!! The hot tub in our room never heated up. There was BLACK MOLD in the bathroom along the wall near the baseboard. The place smelled dank and musty. The shower curtain didn't fit the shower and water went everywhere. The curtains covering the front door were tattered. Silverware was dirty. Half of the outside lights didn't work. read more

We had a fabulous wedding for my daughter this past weekend. The entire wedding party was able to have a weekend getaway. They enjoyed all the jacuzzis after rehearsal dinner was served in the main house. The caretaker was helpful in parking ideas and rental placements etc. The setting was exactly the wooded setting my daughter envisioned. Another bonus was her grandma was able to attend and use her walker to get onto the deck on the main house that overlooked the ceremony! read more

This spot is an absolute dream. We stayed in the Wolf Den cabin number 5. Upon arrival we picked up our key and entered our tiny cabin with soothing music playing. The amenities include; fireplace, hot tub, stove and microwave,fridge along with much more! This cabin is dog friendly and approved. Our 14 year old Lexi had the best time hanging on the patio enjoying the fresh cool air. Tuxedo enjoyed our long walk to see the Donkeys down the street. It was awesome!! we went to a creek right down the way and even went up to the top of the rim and looked down at the beautiful view!

Decided last minute to get away from the desert heat and luckily this place had 1 cabin left. All together there are 6 cabins and two of them didn't have a hot tub. #2 & #3 were hot tubless. It didn't bother us since our get away was just to get out of the heat and spend time in nature. Maybe later when the weather gets cooler because they also all had a gas fireplace in each cabin but not for the middle of summer ! Very cute and clean cabins, had all the comforts of home...the only thing you needed to bring were your clothes and food ! I didnt use the free wifi much or the tv, spent most of it on the porch swinging enjoying the scenery and or catching up on a good book outdoors !!! I spent the late hours star and moon gazing and woke up extra early to enjoy the fresh outdoors and beautiful scenery before anyone else woke up. The owner that we met was very nice....he told us about the property and what to check out in the area. There was a fire ban but they still had a gas fire going at night for everyone to enjoy ! This place can be very romantical and also family friendly, or a weekend to yourself by yourself ...its perfect for it all. Love that this place is dog friendly too !!! The property surrounded a forest of tall pine trees and a rescue farm so on the way to the property you see horses and goats. We walked down to see the animals and they were super friendly !!! The cabins are away from the main road so you don't hear the traffic. There is a small convenient store and 2 restaurants about 4 miles down the road on Christopher Creek Loop if you decide not to bring your own food since they both are open for all 3 meals. Personally I liked the Landmark better since you can sit out by the creek and the quality of food is much better. There is also a beautiful lake 5 miles in the opposite direction and plenty of hiking near by as well. Internet is great sometimes but we found these places word of mouth and by the owners. Very small town , nice, laid back, easy going folks in that part of the woods! I love the area and will definitely be back to these cabins to enjoy the beautiful and cooler life there. read more

We stayed 2 nights at these great cabins in October. It is a great place to unwind and unplug from the daily grind of life. We hiked, went horseback riding along the rim and just hung out by the fire pit and got to know some other guests. The cabin had everything that you could ask for...dishes...microwave....fridge...towels..pots and pans...utensils..coffee pot...all creature comforts of home away from home. Even had a fireplace looking heater.....I was SOOOO relaxing just to sit and let your mind UNWIND. Ken and Diana are very knowledgeable about the area and things to do. Once we arrived Diana called the Kohl's stables, so we could book our ride. It is off the beaten path just far enough to be quiet and serene. In the cabin when we arrived there was info on all the local attractions. We loved our experience so much we are going back very soon!!!! A great escape from the heat of the Phoenix area....overall, we really enjoyed our 3-night stay here. The pro's: - Owners were friendly, helpful, personable, and pet-friendly. - coffee and muffins every morning. - the ambiance: beautiful scenery - the weather was perfect, and we didn't mind the few rainstorms that came thru. - bonfires in the evening. - cabin was cozy, we loved sitting on the porch. - proximity to things to do....hiking, fishing, fish hatchery, the Mogollon rim... The cons: - bathroom in cabin had no door, just a curtain, which didn't allow for any privacy. - my wife and I came up for a quiet, serene weekend of relaxation, and while we got that the first night, the "party" arrived the second night. The cabins are pretty close together, and three of the six cabins became occupied by one group (two of which were on either side of us). They were loud, constantly swore, had noisy little kids, slammed beers and played music all night. College-style party-goers. Kinda killed the mood. We'd consider going back for sure, and cross our fingers for better neighbors next time.... read more

Kitchen has everything you need - small fridge, microwave, pots and pans, and plenty of dishes and silverware. And the entire place was so clean! Hosts were very friendly. Great location in the pines and plenty to do around there, but cabins need some maintenance. As the Jacuzzi had no step to get in/out it was challenging and could have been a safety issue if you're not limber. Porches/stairs could use railing also. Fireplace works if you hit it, wall heating unit also not working well. Space heater however did work well and we moved that to the main room. Fire pit was very nice. read more

My wife and I stayed here two nights. The cabin was clean, cozy, and comfortable. If you are looking for quiet seclusion, I highly recommend this location. There ARE new owners and they are great. Very pleasant and friendly. Our cabin (#1) had a spa which was clean, quiet and didn't affect the temp or humidity of the cabin. There is only one descent restaurant close by (Kohl's Ranch Lodge) so plan on using the kitchen. Only a two burner electric hot-plate kind of thing though and no oven. We would have grilled outside, but Forest Service fire restrictions prevented that. Not the owner's fault, but you might want to check before you go. They have DirecTv with HBO etc, and they have wifi, but we could not get it to work with an iPhone or iPad. The owner did warn us of that issue. No cell service here. It was warm in the daytime when we were there and the only cooling options were two small fans and a ceiling fan (very low, watch out), but the nights were very pleasant. The only other drawback for us was no door for the bathroom, just a curtain. Oh, and the hot water runs out rather quickly. Enough for one shower, but replenishes pretty quickly. If you want glass glasses and/or wine glasses, bring your own. All-in-all a very nice place. We would stay there again if we happened to be in the area. read more

I tried to keep this brief, but we enjoyed our stay so much I wanted to comment on as much as I could to hopefully paint a good picture: We just stayed here for our Christmas vacation. I actually planned on booking cabins close by, but decided to give another quick search to see if anything else seemed like a good fit for us. I instantly knew I wanted to go to Mountain Meadows Cabins after visiting their website. You can see pics of each cabin - varying angles - so you get a good sense of the layout. The website also has pics of the property surroundings, fire pit, etc. I can say all pics on the site are representative of exactly how quaint, rustic, & charming it is in person. I'm very visual so I liked seeing where I would be staying & what it would look like. I also spoke with the owner before & after I booked - felt much more personable & she was very accessible via phone/text. I think I may have initially either left a voicemail or email inquiring about a reservation & was contacted right away. She also put together a list of various sightseeing & dining options with directions, etc. Nice touch & helpful! I've read all the previous - yet more recent reviews, & agree with pretty much everything. I think it's just a matter of knowing before you go that you won't get great cell reception. That didn't really bother us for reasons other customers mentioned - we wanted the chance to unwind & take a break from all our tech. And yes, maybe the curtain as the only separator between bathroom & main cabin room isn't for everyone. Just know it is definitely more of that rustic feel. That also didn't bother us. The surroundings are amazing. The property is set back in from Hwy 260 on another paved road. So - it's easy enough to get to if there is snow/ice & you're also fairly close to Christopher Creek where there's a general store & 2 restaurants. But you also feel like you are really away from it all. As a side note, we highly recommend the Three Bears Cafe in Heber, about 30 mins east of the cabins on Hwy 260. Food was amazing, staff was wonderful, & we ended up going back the next day for breakfast! Ok back to the cabins: I could see where if all 6 cabins were full - with each being a separate group/party/couple, it may feel a little close together. We lucked out with total privacy - only 2 of the other cabins were occupied on just 2 of the 4 nights we were there, which made it extra special. Although, even with someone in the cabin right next to us on a couple of the nights & with it being as quiet out there as it was, we couldn't hear them at all. We all had dogs with us & that was not an issue. It was an overall wonderful 'first time staying in a cabin' experience. Have been back home a few days I was curious to search the area to see what other cabins look like, just to compare. I can honestly say without hesitation we would go back to Mountain Meadows in a heartbeat! Would definitely pay the extra $ to stay in cabin 1....a bit more space would make an already wonderful experience even better! read more

Not easy to find cabins near Christopher Creek that feel secluded and in the woods. This little place offers both and the in-room jacuzzi makes it even better! Nice room amenities and the owners are super sweet. Great get away. Coming back again this year! Can't wait. read more

We arrived to an absolutely disgusting smelling cabin. The septic system was leaking a horrible sulfur smell into our cabin in all the drains and shower. We texted the owners and they did not reply for over an hour. When they finally replied, the gave us instructions of how to treat their malfunctioning septic system. They admitted to having this issue many times before. They had us go into their janitor closet, gather vinegar and baking soda and attempt to rectify their smelly disgusting septic system ourselves. To our surprise, there were gallons and gallons of vinegar and bags of Baking soda in the janitor closet. Obviously, they have this problem frequently. We worked for over an hour and then finally gave up and called the owners again and they told us we could leave and they were very sorry and would issue a full refund. So we packed up and left within an hour, totally ruined our entire Thanksgiving weekend. We drove over 6 hours to get there and just a few hours later turned around and had to leave. It gets worse....the owners then send a nasty email to us and inform us they are charging us over $240.00 in totally bogus fees. I am appalled! I have never experienced such terrible rude treatment from an owner. In addition to the septic issue, they originally charged us $541, then a few weeks later charged us an additional $104 without our approval. Do not stay here!! read more

I gave it three stars because I'm conflicted about the place. Picturesque? Yes. Memorable? Yes. Romantic? Yes. This is an adult environment as the website says and it's out of the way, next to a farm. The view of the Mogollon Rim is awesome. Our cabin came with a jacuzzi. The only problem is an owner named Ron. He is a creep. My husband and I spent the day in Payson and came back parking the car in front of the cabin. Ron comes running out of his office and accuses me of backing up into the cabin. Why? There's not even a dent in the cabin. There was no noise, no boom. We believe that he is racist and maybe hates "young" people. Earlier in the day, we had used our cabin jacuzzi. I had left my bra on the floor. While we were in town, Ron had apparently gone through our room because we found the spa top slipped back on. I told him we didn't even come close to the cabin with the car and he walks off shaking his head. Then later that night, my husband was restless and he got up. He said that during the time he was up, he saw the door handle move. He peeked out and saw Ron at the door. We didn't question why he tried the door because we're sure it was for no good reason. In spite of this, we tried to have a good time. We stayed two nights. Of course, you can rent porn, but it's not our thing. We had a perfectly romantic time in the jacuzzi. We slept both nights with the fireplace going. I cooked for the first time for my husband in this cabin. The first morning I spent some reading time on the porch watching the fog roll in. You can smell the pine because you're right there in it. The last time I checked the website I learned that the property is up for sale by that old geezer. Let's hope the new owners are friendly. Remove Ron and this place will be worth 5 stars. UPDATE: Because of the two crappy responses I got, let me explain. Go to travelocity.com and you'll find similar older reviews. I'm not making this up. The owner, by her response, clearly doesn't remember me. I'm the younger person married to an older person. Of course, I don't hate "old" people. Great escape from Phoenix. Wife and I loved having a jacuzzi in the room! The kitchen was well stocked. We planned on NOT eating out a single meal and brought just about everything for the kitchen we thought we would need and found ourselves not needing much of our own utensils. Ken and Diane do a great job furnishing travelers with what they need. They treated us like family! They daily would great us by name...we weren't just a "customer" but we were important to them. We stayed in cabin #4 for 5 nights of our 6 night stay and loved it! Was a big plus for me having DirectTv! The old stove top in our cabin even worked! We'll be back some time soon! read more

These cabins are fantastic. Very small but so is the price. I came to be outdoors. Cute, clean, neat, tidy. Nice owners too. Community fire every night. Jacuzzis in some rooms. Porches and chairs with swings. It was so nice. We sat on the porch swing and watched it rain. The smells were amazing. Just a little past. Christopher Creek. Not a bad drive. Cabins are close but I didn't mind. Only 6 cabins. Very nice. We loved it. read more

The cabins are amazing! The hot tub inside the room is one of the coolest aspects of staying here. It's great after a long day of hiking and exploring. Nothing better than being able to sit in a hot tub and watch a movie all at the same time. All in the comfort of your cabin. This is one of my favorite places to stay when I head up north. Very Pet Friendly! Reasonable pet fee per night. Was very easy for my 12 year old lab to get in and out of the cabin. Plus owners were fine with our lab walking about without her leash.(although she is a very good dog). Loved the scenery. Great for couples and there dog. read more

My husband and I just got back from an amazing weekend here. The new owners area amazing. I had mentioned when booking the cabin that I was doing so as a surprise for my husbands birthday. When we got there they had made him a personalized birthday cake and had put up some decorations. There was fresh, soft linen on the bed and very plush towels in the bathroom. The cabin was very cozy and quiet. We saw the owners a few times but it was just in passing. They left us to ourselves primarily. In the morning there were fresh muffins and possibly the best coffee I have ever had. We loved that they were pet friendly as we have a 3 month old boxer puppy that we needed to take with us as well. I am looking forward to heading back. Next time we are going to use one of the jaccuzzi cabins. We were absolutely satisfied with this business and would recommend it to anyone wanting to get away and relax. read more

I stayed at Mountain Meadows Cabins with my girlfriend for 3 nights for our 1 year anniversary, and it was nothing short of exceptional! When we arrived Diana was extremely friendly and gave great advice on local places to eat as well as sightseeing. Diane and Ken were both great during our entire stay and both were very approachable and kind. The cabin itself had everything you could need, including a fireplace, microwave, and dishes as well as the Jacuzzi that was clean and ready to go when we arrived. The fresh coffee and muffins were great to wake up to every morning, sitting on the porch of the cabin watching all of the birds and wildlife of the area. Each night we would sit out on the swing and listen to the elk in the distance calling, very peaceful and relaxing. Sitting out by the fire and roasting a marshmallow for the first time since I was a kid is a great memory. I would highly recommend the Mountain Meadow Cabins to anyone looking to get away for a few days. This was the first of hopefully many times I will be there.
