This is one of our favorite places to go in Bethel. The cocktails are creative and rotate by season, all the food is thoughtful and creative and utilizes local in season ingredients. What really makes us keep coming back are the staff and how attentive they are to details and providing great service. Happy to stumble upon this hidden gem near Sunday River. The restaurant had recently won a local competition called the best pour award so I had to get a cocktail. I chose the White Rabbit since it's not too often you see carrot used in a drink. It had a good balance of sake, carrot and nutmeg. Benedictine rounded out the flavor profile. I liked that aquafaba (the water from chickpeas) was used for the foam as opposed to egg whites. The food was on point too. Seafood chowder had a nice texture with moderate amount of tender scallops and whitefish. It was more peppery than others. Kale and Brussels was well dressed and the miso stood out. Mildly spicy at the start but the spice built up as you ate it. Duck tacos had a good mix with spicy green apple salsa and watermelon radish. It paired well with the duck although I think it would work with any protein. The chef's fish was cod that absorbed the miso marinade perfectly. Oyster mushrooms were the perfect accompaniment. This sat on a bed of rice noodles. It was sufficient, but found myself wanting a noodle that could hold more of the sauce. The dish was adorned with a fried crispy rice cracker that was a favorite of mine growing up. I also tried a bit of my friend's chicken and farro. Chicken was juicy and flavor was excellent with the chicken flavor enhanced by the spices/glaze used. Farro tabbuleh did embody the flavors of the original tabbuleh (usually consisting of bulgar wheat and parsley with lemon) with a heartier texture. Service was excellent. They were attentive without being intrusive. They waited for us to finish our starters before bringing out our mains. When our utensils were refreshed they were placed on top of a new napkin. This is likely the best food around. We went in for happy hour. It was not busy we ordered some craft cocktails and food the ambiance is chill and a bit eclectic.. the food was wonderful the people are warm and friendly. Drinks were great. I would recommend this if you are looking for a more upscale laid back place to get a bite. read more

Husband and I had dinner here on Saturday night. They do not take reservations but they do have a call ahead system which I highly recommend as there is not a lot of room to wait. When we arrived we had 10-15 til our table was ready and we spent it hanging at the bar. We were thoroughly impressed with the mixologist behind the bar. She certainly was making some delicious concoctions, I got the carrot cake, Once we were sat, our waitress came over, I told her I had allergies, her response was not one of somebody that was pleased in hearing this. However, she said that they could make modifications. What I will say is that the items I ordered were absolutely delicious, the food was delicious! I started with the squash curry soup my husband had the Caesar and we both had the duck tacos. I highly recommend the food here. The atmosphere is of a quaint homelike space. I recommend. read more

They replaced the vodka with mezcal for me, no problem. This was one of the most beautiful cocktails I've ever received. I couldn't stop taking photos of it. The photo I attached to this review doesn't even do it justice. Tasted great too! **I ordered the halibut with roasted fingerling potatoes, cilantro pepita zhoug, tri-colored carrots, yogurt chevre, & dukkah. Same thing! I couldn't believe how gorgeous the presentation was. I took one million photos (they also didn't do it justice) before I started eating. I usually have pretty good restraint, especially when it comes to the small-food-big-plate type dining, but this was so good I couldn't hold back. I cleaned the plate in 5 minutes. My only concerns for the Mountain Social Kitchen & Bar: - Prices were a bit steep, especially for the small plates. - There was no gluten-free alternative to bread/rolls, so the only way I could have gotten the lobster roll was if I got it on a lil piece of lettuce. Which is no fun. I'm glad I got the halibut, obviously, but would like to see a gluten-free bun or another imaginative alternative on the menu. Thanks! We had an excellent meal at Mountain Social! It has a great ambiance and friendly wait staff. The food was great as well! Everything was good, but the star of the show was definitely the Chef's Fish. It was on the specials list, but it seems like it lands there fairly often and I can see why. The fish had a delicious miso glaze, the bok Choy had a dressing that added a nice tang, and the mushroom medley was so perfectly roasted and flavorful. If you see this on the menu definitely order it - you won't regret it! My only note is that this is definitely a pricier place. These four dishes, two cocktails and a beer cost nearly $200. So be prepared to spend a bit! read more

While visiting friends in Bethel, ME we were looking for a place to eat and happened to find Mountain Social Kitchen & Bar...and we are so happy we did! The atmosphere is wonderful...so cozy and comfortable. We sat in the front room. It was a little chilly on this rainy, late May day, but they put the mini splits on and it warmed up nicely! We were greeted right away by our wonderful waitress (I forgot her name). The guys ordered drinks, a dark ale and the Jungle Road. The really liked both. We ordered our food right away...two of our party had the Scallops and Risotto, one had the Flank Steak with Chimichurri sauce and I had the Ribeye. Let me tell you...flavortown all the way with all of the entrées. The Umami sauce that came with the Ribeye was to die for and the crispy fingerling potatoes were amazing. We all cleaned our own and some of each others' plates! We will definitely be back! My husband and I are going to Bar Harbor in June and we found out they have two sister restaurants up there....Project Social Kitchen and Bar and Leary's Landing Irish Pub. Nice place in an old house converted to a restaurant - so many funny little places and books.. it's on the 'fancy' side but without being too expensive. I had the lamb Bolognese which was good and although at first the portion looked smal it was the perfect size. Good spot I'm sure to return to. After writing this I have considered further and increased my rating to 5 as it really is great food for the price. Had high hopes. Brought visiting family for lobster roll which she loved. Tried a few apps (hummus was small and flavorless with stale crostini) Brussels sprouts app was good but a little chewy. Lobster Nicoise was pretty good (lobster chewy) and Scallops and Risotto was very good. Service was average as disregarded mention of crostini as typical vs stale. No interaction. Fantastic! We came here early in July for happy hour and sat on the sunny and inviting patio. Brussels sprouts were excellent, service was great and the cocktails were lovingly and accurately prepared (I am an amateur mixologist). It was obvious that the bartender knows what they are doing. I had the lamb sliders which were moist and well seasoned. Hubby had the seafood chowder and Caesar salad and enjoyed both (wolfed them down, no taste for me, LOL). Good beer selection. We will be back, small but interesting menu, can't wait to try other items. Quiet when we were there and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. My fiancée and I recently dined here, and it was overall a frustrating experience. He ordered duck tacos, which were tasty but way overpriced. I got Brussels sprouts that were decent but very dry, so I asked for extra sauce--only to wait forever for it to arrive. The service was painfully slow; it took ages to get our appetizers, and our entrées were so delayed that they had clearly been sitting out for 15-20 minutes. We ended up asking to leave without receiving them. To make things worse, the waiter kept insisting that my fiancée take his now lukewarm $60 steak and my soup to go, despite us saying no multiple times. The drinks were decent but overpriced too. Unfortunately, between the slow service, pushy waitstaff, and overpriced dishes, I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

We were in Bethel this past week and stopped here twice. I got the steak - phenomenal. The risotto scallops also perfect. We had the smoked salmon dip, steak tartar and duck tacos for appetizers - all flavorful and yummy. My wife for the special cocktail, Empress, she loved it!
