TLDR: place would fit right in at Portland And I mean that with the highest praise possible. This restaurant would easily thrive in Portlands incredible restaurant culture. The co owners are a husband and wife combo with the husband chef hailing from Virginia who moved Maine so they could be closer to his wife's family. Give the key to the city to the wife's family this place is good. Portions are very large. Two people could probably split the fried fish sandwich. Also I've never had a fried fish this good anywhere else in New England. Service was a little slow during the lunch rush hour on a Saturday which is understandable but the food makes up for it! Oh and last thing - we had the Thai iced tea and Vietnamese coffee which were both excellent.

What a pleasant surprise to find in Bethel! I had the Ban Mi and my wife enjoyed the Say my Nom Say my Nom vegetarian salad and both were delicious! We ordered a Vietini cocktail to try and that was yummy! The service was quick and friendly and the ambiance was nice.

Where do I start? The food of course! Amazing is almost an understatement... I dine here every time I'm in town, at least once usually more, and I can't believe I'm just now writing this review. I have a never once been disappointed with any of the dishes I've tried. A few times I had ones that were a bit too spicy for me, but I'm a wimp so that's nothing on them. The menu tells you that up front I just thought I could handle it...nope. I've tried everything at least once too so that's saying something. One of my favorites is a rice dish with fried salmon nuggets. I had never heard of salmon cooked that way; I love it and order it whenever its on the menu. Thankfully their menu changes frequently, so there's always something new and interesting to try. I love to sit up at the counter and watch these amazing cooks/chefs making magic! they chop and dice (the entire cooking part of the kitchen is open so you can see all your food as its being prepared and cooked) and use everything fresh and it's comes out in the tastes and the aromas that fill the air and has you salivating in anticipation. Also I find when dining alone, its nice sitting at the counter because I usually always strike up a conversation with someone and learn something new about the most random things, and I love that! Many times it's the locals, and sometimes "tourists" like me, but no matter I've found everyone very interesting in different ways, and always come away a little more knowledgeable about some topic or a recommendation for a local contractor, or where to shop for something I need, for example. Not to leave out the aesthetic details for those of you that appreciate it like I do. They serve everything on beautiful mismatched china, not your standard mass produced heavy duty plain ole ugly white dishes that a lot of restaurants use. We all know that makes it tastes better right?! At the same time, they aren't in the least bit pretentious. Beautiful green plants do their job of creating beauty and making the air healthier as they adorn the shelves running above the wall of windows that bring lots of natural light into the space. The tables have those comfortable, bouncy type 70's - 80's wickerback chairs that take me back to my momma's table growing up when she still fed not only my belly, but my soul and spirit, and so for me it has extra "feel goods" besides tastes. Lastly, speaking of tastes...I can promise you the portions are generous and you will be too full for desserts BUT either save 1/2 your meal for later and eat dessert in house, or get it to go. Its always something incredibly delicious and unique, from scratch too like momma made it! They also have delicious french press coffee. I noticed a one star review where the person was complaining about showing up and it being closed and this website said it was open. Well...that's happened to me with places before too. What I've learned when talking with them about it they don't control what yelp puts on their site. Even when they've told yelp their hours it doesn't always get corrected. So what I leaned to do is not trust ANY platform for the hours. CALL the restaurant directly. Especially when you're in a town that mostly seasonal. Bethel is a small town, and this is a "mom and pops" so to speak, establishment, not your big town chain restaurant. Isn't that what you're wanting when you look on yelp?

Honestly I see why this place has that highly-coveted 5-star rating on Yelp. Got takeout here during a road trip - we searched for something along our route and happened upon this absolutely adorable little gem. Pickup was extremely smooth and easy, with an estimated time given in advance. My Chicken Banh Mi was SO GOOD and the Angry Rooster was equally delicious! Tbh I wanted to try EVERYTHING on the menu bc they had such interesting and varied options. Loved the decor of the place too, and at peak fall, sitting outdoors with the colorful view was absolutely the way to go. Wish I lived closer for another visit!

My son loves the porke bowl with chicken and we enjoyed the Angry Rooster. Very tasty! Friendly service and the food is always ready when we arrive for pick-up. Love using the app to order online. We're now loyal customers!

I don't know where to begin, the ambience is amazing with both indoor and outdoor seating. The decor is lively and fun. The service is great and servers are attentive and well versed in the menu. Lastly, just look at this photo of the bahn mi and fish sandwiches.. I think they speak for themselves. (completely from scratch kitchen)!

I usually only use Yelp to read the reviews but eating at Le Mu made it necessary to finally write my own. This place is one of the few restaurants I have eaten at that deserves a ten out of ten. To begin, Le Mu is beautifully decorated and home-y with lots of plants, eclectic plates, and a view of the chef and staff working in the beautiful kitchen. The service was amazing, everyone was incredibly nice and helpful with a thorough knowledge of the menu and its offerings. I asked for recommendations and they delivered. Since the restaurant is on the smaller side multiple waitresses attended to us and made sure we had everything we needed. Now, the food. I am from Boston and am a foodie for sure. This place is my new favorite restaurant. I ate here twice in three days and am planning to go back once more before leaving Bethel. Both times the food was consistently high quality. The chef puts an artful southern touch on traditional Laotian food. The pho was unlike anything I've ever had before with a buttery melt off the bone rib completing the bowl. All of the appetizers I had were incredible, notably the soft boiled eggs with chili oil and the broccolini. Again, both things I have had before but never as tastefully diverse and as special as it is satisfying to look at. If you're looking for food that will make you smile, this is the place. I cannot recommend Le Mu enough. Props to the chef and the staff for the hard work that makes Le Mu the best restaurant in Bethel (and maybe even the best restaurant in Maine). I will most definitely be back soon.

I was born and raised in Maine and come back a couple times a year to see my mom here in Brunswick…read more I hadn't been yet to the Ram and Bull which took over a previous restaurant spot, and decided to give it a try based on the fact that one of their weekly specials was lobster stew. Let me be clear, I am typically disappointed over and over by the lobster stew I have in Maine. In my mind, it should be classic, with milk, butter, Sherry, and lobster meat. I've been searching for this version from my childhood for the past 30+ years and I finally found it here. Have they added a tiny garnish of rosemary to the top? Yes. Does it make me angry or detract from the sweet perfect flavors of the stew? No. And the lobster meat in the stew was tender, as it should be, rather than having simmered way too long and being tough and chewy. Their crabcakes also were nice and generous, although I don't love the spicy remoulade (I feel it's too strong for delicate crab flavor) and the texture was a bit soft for me. I'm looking forward to being back during my stay and trying more items from the menu! Oh, and don't sleep on the service here, it was excellent. From several people asking me how my meal was or just saying hello, to the amazing Travis behind the bar with his big fabulous personality. Yay!

STEPH JUDGEMENT: Fun eatery with some unexpected vegetarian options…read more The hubby and I stopped in for a weekday lunch with a friend who'd been there before. It had that classic old timey tavern look, with lots of dark polished wood, and their menu, featuring comfort/pub fare, was in keeping with the ambiance. I had their crab cakes, which weren't too bready or greasy and came with a tasty spicy creamy sauce. I also had a cup of their tomato soup, which had tiny grilled cheese sandwich bites on a skewer perched on the bowl--such a fun idea! Accompanied by a glass of crisp chenin blanc, it was an awesome lunch. The hubby enjoyed his beet Reuben, which isn't something you see on a lot of menus. Our friend had the chicken pot pie, which he thought was just so-so. He liked the puff pastry crust but the filling didn't quite do it for him. Our server was friendly and funny and we had a great time overall.

The pasta came out to me paper thin and still rock hard.
