Beautiful establishment , very cozy . Bartender was attentive and laid back. Wednesday night trivia starts at 7 , 50 cent wings . Decent sauces. Brent who runs trivia was the highlight . Very well spoken and funny. Trivia was a mix of questions mostly general knowledge. Very fun . Don't miss that.

Came to Maine for a bachelorette party weekend, and tbh we were not expecting much from Bethel in terms of dining. We were beyond pleasantly surprised with the menu. So many fabulous choices, our favs were the potstickers and the crab cacio e pepe. Very extensive wine selection, with a beautiful showcase wall. Great service, great vibes, delicious food. Talk about a hidden gem

Modern barn has a very rustic, low lit ambiance when you arrive. There is a wall staged will all sorts of wine bottles to the right of the entrance which provides a nice back drop during the dining experience. They also have a jukebox to the left which was a fun addition. The beer list and cocktail list are quite large and the wine list is even larger almost three pages. The menu itself is just a page with a few options, I wouldn't say any of the options really jumped off the page for us. Our main issue was the temperature - we ate our entire meal in down jackets. There was a fireplace over to the left, but that provided absolutely zero warmth for our side of the resturant. It was unreasonably cold. The second issue was the service. Our server let us know she only works one night a week. She seemed a little scatterbrained/overwhelmed though the restaurant had about four occupied tables. It took at least 25 minutes to get our beverages and have staff regretfully inform us the bar was lacking ingredients for our cocktail order. Our server also never informed us they had flatbreads, which we only realized when when of us walked by a sign on the way to the bathroom. Sadly, this day the kitchen was out of the filet and rotisserie chicken and only had one ribeye left (several of us were excited for the chicken). Two of us ordered the shrimp scampi which left our tastebuds urning for more. It was disappointing and tasted like something I'd make at home. The pasta was really lacking flavor & seasoning and was quite watery. It didn't have the garlic, buttery taste you might expect. Our table also ordered the last ribeye which was correctly cooked to temperature and the flatbreads were a hit. Our server never asked us if we wanted additional drinks and came over to check in our how the meal was going when everyone was just about finished and then asked us to fill out contact tracing. Sadly, not the experience we were hoping for.

Service was mediocre, they didn't have real salt (only tiny packets of iodine salt), the mushrooms were soft almost like from a can and my captain and coke was $16.50 plus tax and a tip. I typically pay $3.50 for a captain and coke at my local dive, so that seemed extreme to me. I wouldn't go here again, but I'm glad to pass this knowledge on. I cook with organic produce from scratch most days, and I consider myself a bit of a foodie. The food tasted just fine, but I wasn't very impressed. My 9 year old could cook that Marsala. It was loaded with garlic powder, Not real garlic. With prices like that the least you could do is mince up some fresh garlic.

This place was really cozy and had a cool "modern barn" vibe. Unfortunately, we were there for three hours. You can tell they were stretched for help. I'm not sure if our waitress was one of the owners. Another waiter was handling the other half of the seating. The food took way too long to serve and was Luke warm when it arrived. Every table was experiencing the same service issues. They were trying to get the food out as soon as it was ready. Some tables received their dishes at intervals. The worst part of the night was the temperature inside the restaurant. The pellet stove was on but wasn't running to full capacity. Needless to say, everyone ate with their coats on. I'd like to give them another chance someday. Nothing was that horrible. It's just what every hospitality business is dealing with right now.

We had an amazing dinner at the Modern Barn. The owner came out to give us wine recommendations and the wait staff (Heather) was patient and kind for our big group. The food did not disappoint - the Pig Chop (apparently back by popular demand) was a huge, delicious portion and the charcuterie board was large and delicious! We would highly recommend the Modern Barn to anyone visiting the Bethel/Newry area!

Came in for dinner with a group of 8 people at around 730p on a Friday night. The place was completely dead. A few older couples were eating dinner. A guy was playing guitar cracking a lot of dad jokes. The decor was cool, and the place has potential based on that. Three dart boards near the kitchen. Aside from that, It was not a great atmosphere to kick off a ski weekend. The beer list was good. Bissell Brothers and Maine Beer on draft. The cocktail list was... weird. It was February 1st, and they still had a full-blown Christmas themed cocktail menu. Someone in my party ordered one, and it literally came with holly berries on it... The food took 45 minutes to come out. Again, we were the only people in there. I ordered the California chicken sandwich which was very good. It came with one side and I added a baked potato. Two others ordered the salad with shrimp. The $17 salads came with TWO small shrimp on them. We asked, not to get more, but see if it was a mistake, and the waiter said he had no idea but would check. 20 minutes went by and he comes back and we say "what did you find out?" And he said "oh haha I forgot, ok do you want the check?" Terrible. In summary, good beers, potentially cool spot if it actually had music and wasn't a ghost town, ok food, high prices for what you get. I wouldn't return.

Atmosphere: industrial vibe. Service: friendly. Food: bland, cold, over priced and lacks visual appeal. Disappointing dining experience.

Ambiance is nice, service is very slow, food is only ok. Dessert is $12 a piece and it all tastes like it was frozen and warmed up.

Happy to stumble upon this hidden gem near Sunday River. The restaurant had recently won a local…read morecompetition called the best pour award so I had to get a cocktail. I chose the White Rabbit since it's not too often you see carrot used in a drink. It had a good balance of sake, carrot and nutmeg. Benedictine rounded out the flavor profile. I liked that aquafaba (the water from chickpeas) was used for the foam as opposed to egg whites. The food was on point too. Seafood chowder had a nice texture with moderate amount of tender scallops and whitefish. It was more peppery than others. Kale and Brussels was well dressed and the miso stood out. Mildly spicy at the start but the spice built up as you ate it. Duck tacos had a good mix with spicy green apple salsa and watermelon radish. It paired well with the duck although I think it would work with any protein. The chef's fish was cod that absorbed the miso marinade perfectly. Oyster mushrooms were the perfect accompaniment. This sat on a bed of rice noodles. It was sufficient, but found myself wanting a noodle that could hold more of the sauce. The dish was adorned with a fried crispy rice cracker that was a favorite of mine growing up. I also tried a bit of my friend's chicken and farro. Chicken was juicy and flavor was excellent with the chicken flavor enhanced by the spices/glaze used. Farro tabbuleh did embody the flavors of the original tabbuleh (usually consisting of bulgar wheat and parsley with lemon) with a heartier texture. Service was excellent. They were attentive without being intrusive. They waited for us to finish our starters before bringing out our mains. When our utensils were refreshed they were placed on top of a new napkin. Lots of places just put it directly on to the table. I'll be sure to stop by again if I'm in the area.

However, we ended up having a great meal. I got the tomato soup and bread, and my hubby got Joe's special (or some similar name; it was pretty much like a Philly Cheesesteak). I was obsessed with the soup. It was flavorful, without being rich. My husband was happy with his sandwich, and very impressed with the sweet potato fries. The only downfall is the price of the cocktails. We paid $14 for each drink...and the drinks weren't anything to write home about. All in all, a solid 4 star. We'll be returning later this week.

The hostess asked us to come back in 20 minutes because they were at capacity which we did with no issue. When we returned our hostess was quite rude and seemed overwhelmed and annoyed that we had come back. We were seated at a table and our server did not come over for at least 25 minutes. It took another 10 minutes to get our drinks, they missed our waters (which we asked for). The server did not ask us what we wanted for food. It appeared only one server was working. Eventually after trying to flag her down for fifteen more minutes she took our order. Our waitress barely paid attention to us. After we ate I left with my friend and our girlfriends stayed for drinks while we skied. They asked to go to the bar at which point the hostess told them to wait at the table for someone to come over and bring them to the bar. That never happened and they asked again at which point the hostess told them they had to leave because they were at the table past their time limit. They told her they were waiting to go to the bar and eventually were moved there. The service was even slower from there on. It overall seemed like they didn't want us there and didn't want to serve us. We spent a good amount of money and were respectful of the rules but the staff was rude and almost completely ignored us. It's disappointing because I have been coming here multiple times a year since I was a kid. Today was possibly the worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant.
