Emotional support: If you want to read my review about…read moreoverall care at La Canada while I was a patient here for two weeks go read the Google review I wrote. I want to focus here on the little bonuses of emotional support. When you realize this is where you need to be for two weeks or longer, there is some mindset and emotional issues that are struggles. There are really special little details that this care center does to support you emotionally. There is ice cream available every day at an ice cream bar 1:30pm. There are some really great activities listed monthly on the calendar but not always a large amount of participation. Bingo happens almost everyday, there are all different levels mobility of people who need support to those who don't need support and an amazing community church group comes and support this work. There is a behavioral health counselor the CNAs can refer patients to who need emotional support and Ginelle- the bx counselor- has wonderful skills to offer and a kind caring way of connecting quickly. The CNAs are so very kind and considerate. On the rehab side they work very hard around the clock with most of time 2 CNAs to manage the rehab floor. They do it so well and make you feel validated and welcome. The food was as struggle it times for me and my husbands love language is cooking. The CNAs would help me heat food or get extra salad when they could. I saw them doing this for my roommate also. I needed ice packs round the clocks especially at night that I brought from home and they were always helpful with this. Linda the overnight CNA goes above and beyond at night to help my roommate and me with what I needed. They have gratitude cards you can write for an employee who does stellar work. I was sharing with the Dof O, Mara all my positives. She gave me a pile of cards. I filled out 28 cards and had to ask for 5 more. The peoples' level of care made the things that they struggle with from my Google reviews the reason why I would go back there, if I ever had to and I would recommend it to a loved one.

I had my husband transferred there from the hospital. He had cancer, doing pretty well, but had…read morecellulitis & contracted an infection in a wound some how, and put on a broad spectrum of antibiotics He was there for a week. Then transferred to La Canada Care Center. The second day there , one of the nurses aids noticed in the room's bathroom had an electrical outlet was really singed, and the box of gloves, above the outlet was too! They reported it to the nursing station. When I asked later about it, the nurse said the outlet was tripped, so it was not a problem. I later told management I did not feel safe with my husband in the room, he could not even get out of bed by himself. Also, concerned about other patients & staff. About 6 hours later he was moved. He was in isolation for 10 days. Once it ended, it took a contract wound nurse, who came 3x a week, to talk to someone 5 days after he was cleared of the infection. The room had not being cleaned or sanitized. She told them he had wounds & would not be safe in an uncleaned area. Within a few hours the room was cleaned. Food was not very good, I would not eat it. The OP & PT were great Most of the nurses & nursing aids staff were very good, but a few should not be in that field. It was very chaotic with patients yelling for meds or get me out of here, etc. My husband tried to get out of bed & skinned up his knees, & fell out of bed once, when I was not there. I was there usually 7:30 - 5 to make sure he had care, they changed him, refilled his water, get anything he needed, You need an advocate! At the NW Medical Center I was given a list of facilities, either the ones I picked were full, did not take our insurance, or too far awayl. So I had my husband transferred La Canada Care. I do not know how Medicare gives them the top 4 Star rating, they need to check out the facility.again!

When one calls an ambulance, it usually takes you to the nearest ER. Unfortunately for my sister,…read moreshe lived closest to NWMed. She had strained her shoulder and back reaching overhead. They admitted her to the ER, then placed her in their Oncology dept. because she was six years post cancer diagnosis with no new cancer. Ten days later, she died from pneumonia and "malnutrition ". Do not take your loved one to this facility. The nurses were good. The attending MD's had zero bedside manner. I was told we had three days to move my sister to hospice or they would remove her!And after two days, while we frantically called every hospice facility on the hospital's recommended list,Dr. Fortuna and their hospice coordinator, Noreen, became rude, borderline aggressive, w/lharassing me about moving to hospice. The last week of my sister's life had little dignity. It was unnecessarily stressful.A minor observation: their bed linens were ripped and disgusting. And no one should encourage a dying woman to get some rest while leaving a bright fluorescent light on her face!

They made an 96 year old man sit in the ER for over Four Hours…read more When they finally had enough and told the receptionist they were leaving , they magically got to see a nurse! Who had been sitting there the entire time! Calling it Poor care quality is being polite. I was there almost two hours and we left because they would not say if it would be 10 minutes or 3 hours. But No one was being seen except the 96 year old who threatened to leave. Went home called an ambulance. They gave meds and IV bag. They took her back to this hole and they set her in the hall . We left. Don't bring a dog to this place! Special shout out to the emergency room receptionist, she certainly wasn't a nurse (no nurse would ignore two people in distress, who are writhing in pain!) . FU. And the nurse who FINALLY GOT OFF HER ASS to help the 96 year old man , hope your parents end up with a similar care giver. How do two sleep at night?

They are a procedure mill! All they are interested in is how many injections they can give you…read more They have insisted on giving me injections about every 4 months or so. They finally started giving me medication about 2 years ago, one of which actually worked, but stopped working after 9 months. Then they gave me an additional medication on top of the 1st one. The 2 together does blunt the pain a bit, but it's still around a 7 on the pain scale. Today I tried to refill one of my pills, but the pharmacy said I had to wait another day! As of tonight, I am out. I have 2 appointments tomorrow morning and I won't be able to go to the pharmacy until tomorrow mid afternoon! 2 pills I will miss because Dr Yang wouldn't let me have my pills on day 29. She doesn't care about my pain! I will avoid her in the future, and I suggest that others do too.

It took most of the next day calling and leaving messages to try to get something for the pain. Never got to speak to a doctor, but was prescribed some Tramadol which barely helped. The day of the procedure, Dr Yang was late, gave me a five minute explanation of what was next and afterwards stood in the doorway of the recovery room and said it went well. Apparently, it didn't go well and the pain continued. Spent the next day in agony trying to reach someone there for help. One one thier Lackeys finally called back and said Dr Yang wanted some X-Rays and prescribed a pain pill called Journavx which my pharmacy doesn't carry. I called Pima Pain Center and was told that I would have to find it on my own. On the day the stitches were removed I asked Dr Shiller what was next and was told that was all they could do and good luck. So, if your goal is to visit a Medical Industrial Complex with horrible communication and one phone number, this is the place for you. Personally, I'm now going to Barrow Brain and Spine to see if they can actually help me.
