When one calls an ambulance, it usually takes you to the nearest ER. Unfortunately for my sister, she lived closest to NWMed. She had strained her shoulder and back reaching overhead. They admitted her to the ER, then placed her in their Oncology dept. because she was six years post cancer diagnosis with no new cancer. Ten days later, she died from pneumonia and "malnutrition ". Do not take your loved one to this facility.The nurses were good.The attending MD's had zero bedside manner. I was told we had three days to move my sister to hospice or they would remove her!And after two days, while we frantically called every hospice facility on the hospital's recommended list,Dr. Fortuna and their hospice coordinator, Noreen, became rude, borderline aggressive, w/lharassing me about moving to hospice.The last week of my sister's life had little dignity. It was unnecessarily stressful.A minor observation: their bed linens were ripped and disgusting. And no one should encourage a dying woman to get some rest while leaving a bright fluorescent light on her face! read more

The bad news is that they discharged me with dizziness and didn't bother to perform the Epley maneuver - a 2 1/2 minute procedure that would have resolved my vertigo. "You're discharged." "Oh. The bloodwork must have come out ok?" "I'm not gonna blow smoke up your ass. I haven't looked at it." Upon the recommendation of Gemini, I watched a YouTube video when I got home and did it myself. They made an 96 year old man sit in the ER for over Four Hours. When they finally had enough and told the receptionist they were leaving , they magically got to see a nurse! Who had been sitting there the entire time! Calling it Poor care quality is being polite. I was there almost two hours and we left because they would not say if it would be 10 minutes or 3 hours. But No one was being seen except the 96 year old who threatened to leave. Went home called an ambulance. They gave meds and IV bag. They took her back to this hole and they set her in the hall . We left. Don't bring a dog to this place! Special shout out to the emergency room receptionist, she certainly wasn't a nurse (no nurse would ignore two people in distress, who are writhing in pain!) . FU. Came in for an upper G.I. the staff was excellent very friendly. Everything moved rather quickly also from the pre-registration to checking in to even being called back to begin the procedure. The hospital was nice and clean as well as the room. The nursing staff that assisted were very talkative and friendly. If in need of having any procedure, I would recommend Northwest Hospital. AVOID this hospital at ALL costs. Multiple visits here for my family members by ambulance, and they have always been terrible. A nurse named "Jose" in the ER, was absolutely terrible. To be in the medical profession, compassion, kindness, professionalism and understanding are essential. He lacks all of them. Very rude, careless, and disrespectful to his patients. Jose is an absolute nightmare of a nurse. The doctors are also poor at their job. No results after tests, extremely slow and poor handling of the situations. Promises never made. I had a very swollen knee filled with fluid after I had received a synvisc injection. The Urgent Care sent us to a hospital because I had a blood clot a year prior and they though it could be one again. We went to Northwest Med Center and waited. 2.5 hours. After finally getting an x-ray, they told us at 10 pm to go home because they had no one available to do an ultra sound and suspected it was a blood clot! We went early the next day to Banner Hospital, now needing a wheelchair for the swollen knee. They did an ultra sound (no blood clot) and then drained the knee. It was a long day, but I was able to get it addressed and able to go home after 10 hours. I have never heard of a hospital ER telling a patient, "We think you have a blood clot, but can't help. Come back tomorrow." We were appalled and will never come here again by choice. read more

This center is a mid tier hospital that includes and ER and ICU with limited capabilities and staffing. Our son was admitted to the ER in critical condition and required far more care than they could provide. The ICU refused him. The ER did their best to triage and stabilize him until they could find a tier 1 trauma center. All Arizona T1's were full so they were looking for centers outside Arizona. The following morning Mayo Phoenix accepted him and he was life flighted there. I was in the hospital January of 2024 for a week. I received one voice mail saying I have a balance due in March of 2024. I tried calling the number from caller id and they couldn't find a balance and then referred me to the another number that was the hospitalist billing and nothing. I never received a paper bill or a phone call until today when a debt collector texted me. I called Northwest and she said the bill was returned because of bad address. It was missing out lot number. Across the road was one of two storage facilities and flights at the Marine MAC air station. The test is just a precaution. They say take a test, I'm here. Pretty sure this is the last of the series. My wife was there three times last year had a problem with the pathology department. Also, the third time had a doctor name Raymond.Choi he is moonlighting in the emergency department sent a bill to my insurance. The insurance wanted more information and now they have billed me for the full amount because the LLC he works for will not send the information that the insurance company needs and refuses to do so this will have to be disputed. It's a clear violation of the no surprise act where the hospital is in my network, but the moonlighters doctors that are working there some of them are out of network and they're trying to build the full amount to the patient. This is very deceptive and I believe the hospital should be accountable to some extent for the people that work there they have some bad policies. I checked in on Saturday morning to the Northwest Medical Center's emergency center in Vail on May 30, 2026. The place was empty when I arrived in the morning at about 9:30AM. I had blood taken and a urine sample along with the doctor coming into the room regarding my issue which was soreness in my abdomen. During my visit they had another patient with some type of serious condition, so they said they would be right back, but I waited for another hour and a half in a room with my blood needle still in my arm while they took care of this other patient. Eventually after an hour and a half, only the admin nurse came back, removed the needle in my arm and said it is likely they won't be back anytime soon. And that was that, so finally, I just left feeling they didn't give a crap about me. I never received my blood results or urine results, nor did they check me out officially. In fact, I'm not even sure they tested my blood. That is no way to run an emergency hospital center. I will never go back to that emergency center again. read more

No issues with floor nursing staff - had good to excellent care. During my abdominal surgery something happened to my right eye. Had issues with seeing out of it upon waking from surgery - light and shapes only. Was told on daily basis (x5) that there was nothing they could do for me at the hospital. I asked if one of the ER docs could look at it and I was told no. Told to see an eye doctor once discharged. Seven days after injury finally was able to see my regular eye doc and he diagnosed scratched cornea. Maybe I'll recover and maybe I wont. I'm not a vengeful person but this lit me off. Northwest Hospital Orange Grove Tucson AZ 2-6 Feb 26. Lengthy waits in the ER waiting room. During the time there I saw a doctor 3 times (ER, hospital, and when I asked to leave.) My linens were never changed nor was the room cleaned, and I was unable to sleep. Had 3 meals and sandwiches during the entire time. No care just waiting. 2 Feb 26 my wife drove me to the ER There. I called and left a message for my cardiologist telling him I was going to the ER based on unresolved chest pain. At the ER counter was a blood spill that everyone was just walking around until I complained. The trash was over flowing and the floor appeared dirty. I got in line and after about 10 minutes was met at the counter and told them I was there for unresolved chest pain (CP) with extensive cardiac history. I was taken back and given an IV, EKG, and blood taken. Then told to go to waiting room until an ER bed could be ready. The ER waiting room was literally filled to overflowing with patients, some with IV's, some having not been seen. During this time a very elderly couple who had been waiting 10 hours got back in line at the counter once again for an update. The man fainted in front of a security guard who treated him like a homeless man demanding he get up until a nurse behind the counter realized what had happened and got a gurney. About 2 hours later I was called to the desk and told the cardiac enzyme were negative for a heart attack. Then told to return to waiting room until a ER bed was available. ER still full with little or no seating. At 8pm I was taken back once again for a 2nd blood draw and was told it was still unknown when a bed would be available. So I asked to be released against medical advice since I was exhausted and very uncomfortable. So after 4 hours in the waiting room and having not seen a doctor my wife drove me home. 3 Feb 26 At About 12pm we went back to NW hospital ER once again. Still the same crowds, and trash. I was given the same treatment and after an IV, EKG, and blood draw told to wait in the waiting room again. Later I was told cardiac enzymes came back negative once again. At about 9pm I was finally taken into ER and put on gurney in a room. Given saline and heparin IV and told I was NPO, no food or water so I could go to Cath Lab tomorrow, and to wait for a hospital room. 4 Feb 26 at about 7am my cardiologist came into the ER and told me a cardiac cath would be scheduled, this was the last I saw of him. At about 10am I was taken to a room on the 4th floor with an actual bed. I was placed in the back bed with about the space of the whole room. At about 5pm I was given a dinner tray, that is how I found out I was not going to the Cath lab that day. At about 8pm I called the nurse who checked and said I was scheduled for a Cath on Thursday 5Feb. 12pm I was NPO. Friday 6 Feb I was told I was scheduled for a 9:00am Cath and to get ready. At 4pm with no Cath in sight I requested release AMA once again. I was exhausted with bed sores. I had had no shower or even a chance to bathe or clean up during my 4 days. I remained in my street clothes for the first 3 days and after I insisted was give a hospital gown. I saw a doctor in the ER the first night and another in my room on the 4th day, after my wife complained to the head nurse and hospital administration. My roommate was a rude profane man who listened to his TV at maximum volume 24 hours a day and kept the brightest lights on all day and night. When he did watch the TV he would yell profanities with things he disagreed with. I complained repeatedly to nurses about the noise and light. I asked about quiet times and was told they had none. So I put on an eye mask and noise cancelling headphone with white noise to get what little rest I could. About every 12 hours the CP would return and I as given Dilaudid this allowed some rest but it would often take an hour or more to get a response to pain relief. Since I was given Heparin, despite my expressed concern, I required frequent blood test to measure its level. One failed so bad I had a large lump in my right elbow along with extensive bruising which took more that week to heal. Two days in a row of long waits in the ER waiting room, at different times. Chaotic Cardiac Cath lab scheduling and Nursing protocols and staffing in the ward. Who knows who is overseeing the doctors and their patient involvement. How can a person spend 3 days in a ward and never see a doctor? read more

They want me to have another blood transfusion I was at a 5 so tech had to get me iv set up for me he scran for vein and he drew blood left rest blood viles on table left never came back couple hours later they were asking where my blood was and tech was gone. He forgot green band and my name on the viles. blood and green band just sitting there From hours told us there were good for 8 hours And left. Absolutely the best, smoothest most professional hospital. I had a pulmonary embolism and went to Oro Valley. They transferred me to NW Medical center so specialists could treat me. Everyone from the folks cleaning the floors to the surgeons were top notch. I never had to wait when I called for assistance, everyone was kind and attentive. These folks saved my life. I cannot say enough good about my stellar experience with NW. And the food was good on top of it all. Hospital definitely needs new management!!! I was brought in by emergency services and then say and waited 24 hours for a bed, 48 hours for an MRI, and then another 3 days for the MRI to be read! Such an enormous waste of time! Meanwhile I am taking up bed space in a full hospital!! Are they just milking the insurance companies? At the very least, beef up the radiology dept. My mom has been in this hospital for over a week now. She has a few different things going on but the doctors don't speak to each other. They are so understaffed that the call light can be on for 20-30 minutes before someone answers. I'm scared to leave my mom alone because if there's an emergency no one will come. I arrived to the ER at 9:30 pm. I wasn't seen by a doctor until 1130 pm. He referred me for a CT scan but someone forgot to do the lab work. When i asked why the hold up (at 12:30 am) a nurse recognized the problem and took me to triage for urine sample and blood work. While she did that she simultaneously chatted with a coworker who sat nearby eating a snack. Radiology did the CT scan at 1:30 am. It is now 4 am and have not been seen by the doctor for follow-up/diagnosis. Im going to takemt scan and go elsewhere for treatment. The ER staff have generally been unprofessional and rude. In mid-October, 2025, I spent a week at Northwest Hospital for chronic wounds and cellulitis caused by lymphedema and diabetes. Throughout my time there, everyone on the staff, from doctors and nurses to food service and cleaning staff, went above and beyond to take care of me to the absolute best of their abiiity. My room was always clean, medications were administered on time, and they all gave me the impression that they genuinely cared about me as a person, not just as a patient. I want to give special credit to nurses Teresa, Marlo and Jennifer, who went above and beyond to make sure I was well cared for and comfortable. I truly appreciate the efforts of these three ladies. The only complaints I have about my stay was having to sit in the emergency room lobby for four hours after being seen and admitted, waiting for a bed to be available, and they have the worst food and coffee of any hospital I've ever been in. read more

Emergency room desk personnel spend their time joking around. Although I requested prescription be sent to a nearby Walmart it was sent across town to a closed Albertsons. I was told it couldn't be changed. Finally picked it up at Walmart 5 minutes before closing! For the past week I have numerous messages from Albertsons about picking up meds even though I told them I already had the meds from Walmart. OTC eyedrops recommended are too drying. If I could give them 0 stars I absolutely would, I've been here twice with others and both times their care was absolutely horrendous. My sister in law was in the ER from 3pm-7am for herniated discs in their back, they were never given any pain meds and were told they "slipped through the cracks" and were never even checked in. When they left at 7am, they had to leave AMA because the hospital refused to do anything. They also very loudly were giving another patient his STI results, loud enough that a few rooms over we could hear her talking. This time, I went with my girlfriend because her primary care doctor recommended she should to the ER for a GI consultation as an emergency, we weren't even in there for 5 minutes before the doctor refused her and said that her doctor was wrong and they don't do GI consultations unless it is an emergency. If you need to go to the hospital for ANYTHING, absolutely do not go here, they are absolutely horrendous and will not ever take you seriously. read more

I am being held against my wishes. This is ridiculous. I'm supposed to be in a rehab center and since yesterday they have been lying to me telling me that they needed to arrange transportation. Now I can hear a man from another room who is angry because they have been telling him the same thing and he can't get out of here. My mom was recently treated in this facility...she had a fall at home and was found by neighbors. the nurses were indifferent when I called about her condition. when her obvious lack if lucidity was brought up by myself and my brother to her caretakers....nothing was done. Her Dr never once contacted family about her treatment plan and her nurses were less than helpful in helping het order food from the cafeteria that she would eat. instead, she was brought whatever on a tray and hardly ate a thing in the week she was there. And she was transferred, in her confused state, to rehab WITHOUT family with her which was something I specifically requested. I'd give zero stars if I was able. I don't have a single positive thing to say about this place. I'll tell everyone I come across to avoided sending anyone they love into this facility. read more

The staff is friendly and professional but the facilities are old, dirty, and tattered. The ER bathroom was dirty and remained as such all through the night. The room in ER that my husband got after 11 hours in the waiting room has full trash cans, dirty floors, and sheets with holes. The bathroom next to the room was filthy. Medical waste was left in there, the floor was dirty, the toilet was dirty, and the paper towel dispenser didn't work. Northwest Hospital on La Cholla I have live in Tucson since 1965.Northwest Hospital at one time was a super Hospital but now alot of people feel it's the lower end Hospital in Tucson.I was in the Er today at first it seem like everything was going OK until they wanted a CT scan they told me they put the wrong Iv in.The nurses at Northwest refuse to fix it I waited two hour then went home.Nobody was wanted to help me I think her name was Dixie the charge nurse refuse to help me.Never will I come back again..Maybe lower end nurses who don't get paid alot of money.I was there 6 to 7 hours I was there at 5am never even got a room.lt did not seem like they had enough nurses but they refuse to help me.Now I know why everybody feels like this er room is the worst ever in Tucson.Someday they will shut this hospital down....one star it worth really no stars read more

I had excellent care in the hospital several years,& the hospitalist was superb. She even copied records for me to take to my PCC.I also had an out patient procedure that went very well. My partner & I have found the nurses who transfuse blood to be most efficient. The ER is another total story. When you loved one goes in, you wait and wait, wondering if you will see your loved on before or if they die. The staff has been rather cold and impersonal. There is a total difference in the care at TMC where you as a family member are taken in to sit with the patent until they are seen. There is a very different atmosphere in this ER. & the family is immediately integrated into the care as much as possible. Fortunately, I live closer to TMC, so I will choose this one hands down. read more

Giving 2 stars for 2 nurses that are way too good for this hospital and truly care for others. Went into the ER around 10 pm screaming in pain, crocodile tears, vomiting and in and out of consciousness. I'm 25 years old with a history of kidney stones. I informed them that I have had a stone get stuck and I've become septic and gone into kidney failure before. I rolled around the lobby floor screaming in pain vomiting for an hour before they called me back. Saw me on the floor and didn't even offer to bring a wheelchair. The nurse in triage is a reason I'm giving a star. She treated me like a HUMAN and wanted to help however she could. 1 hour and 15 min later I'm still screaming in pain and I tell them again I need a CT scan as this level of pain is not normal for me and I've been septic before. I wasn't given socks, a gown, nothing. I had to practically crawl myself to the bathroom barefoot still wailing in pain. They eventually gave me Dilaudid and sent me home around 3 AM with an oxy prescription and NO CT SCAN. The next day I woke up around 5 AM screaming in pain again. When I got to the ER, no one was even at the registration counter and I stood there crying for 10-15 minutes until a nurse walked by and saw. I finally got a room and they refused to give me any IV or pain meds. I couldn't even have ice chips. I was told if they give me IV they may have to pump my stomach (even though that's NOT how it works)! I waited 2 hours before the doctor came in and I explained the situation. Even he was mortified they didn't get me in for a CT the day before. I finally got back and sure enough there was a stone. The nurses still refused to give me anything for pain or IV fluids to help flush the stone. 5 hours later of laying there listening to the nurses chat about their social lives at their computers (even talking about how kidney stones aren't that bad) when I could've been at home resting with my own medication, they finally released me. Again, the stars are for the 2 nurses my first night who wanted better for me but could only do so much. And also for the kindness they showed my 85 year old grandmother who was there with me because I'm here from Oregon visiting her. read more
