I'm very impressed by the hardworking teachers and hardworking staff. My first impression of the school was the welcoming greeting of the schools administrator/ secretary Mrs Fitzgerald. She answered all my questions and made me feel that this was the right decision for my children's education. I like it so much that I volunteer two days of the week in my daughter classroom. My husband and I feel just as strongly about our children religious education as we do about their academic education. We feel SFR meets both these high standards most assuredly. The principal Mrs Mendez has a noticeable leadership quality that makes me want to be part of the SFR Families that truly care about this school.

This school has a few students that have bullied my step daughter. The school has done absolutely…read morenothing about it. Parents went to the school and they never notified them that my stepdaughter was getting bullied. She was locked into a bathroom stall and made my step daughter lick the toilet and the principal responded to my partner "Oh? We never called you to tell you?" Principal did not have a conversation with the parents. We never found out who the students were and who the parents were. Principal did not hold a meeting between parents or students. I would not recommend this school because if something is happening at school or in the after school program, Thing together, they try to avoid the parents. They won't notify you. The staff is a total failure. Now, they have a lawsuit coming their way.

Her first day was rough because of the new environment, but after that, she loved this school. She gained confidence, her speech and vocabulary skyrocketed and her social skills improved tremendously. I'm so proud of her and am very grateful for the thoughtful and loving care all the teachers and staff show all the students. From the office manager, Luz, to the lunch team, to the nurse...everyone shows such empathy and care to all the kids. The principal, Erin Fish, is amazing! She really gets it! She very much understands and empathizes with all families who have special needs children and the challenges we face. She is a champion for all the students, whether in special ed or not. I applaud this school for being so exemplary in the way they have shaped the culture of the school and how they support all the students to strive to do their best and to learn from their mistakes and failures. This school is a hidden gem. Any child would be lucky to be here.

However now after one year he has progressed soo much and I can say it's due to the schools great curriculum along with the teachers and staff and the kids classmates. Thanks to Mrs Hernandez I saw my son slowly start to improve in everything. He grasped everything that he learned and was eager to go back to school everyday. He knew how to do his homework and needed little help from me and soon he was reading words and sentences whenever we would go out. This is one of the best schools and of coarse it's because it is located in a great school district but the teachers and staff are what make it great. I was afraid of bullying but the kids here really are respectful and there was nothing but nice and friendliness from everyone even the parents.

Also, she restricted my son from a trick or treating field trip and tried to restrict him from another field trip. However, I spoke to the district, and this is not allowed. Field trips are educational and therefore a part of the curriculum not to be used as reward or punishment. Thankfully, my son has moved on. But, I walked past her class today and she called out to the first graders, "Come on guys, we're talking about going to the Fair here!", obviously employing the same tactics. BURNOUT!

Again being back here I see a big difference in my kids. They always come home happy. They have great teachers there who are always willing to help out. First off, if your child is disabled and or has an IEP, please do NOT send them here. The teachers don't even follow the lEP or the child's basic needs for the majority. I remember clearly needing help with opening my food and drinks at lunch and snack breaks. There was always some lunch lady on duty to help with whatever was needed. I had a very hard time opening the milk cartons and always needed help with them. I remember this one time I asked a teachers aid to help me and she said "no I want you to try to open it yourself this time" I shrugged it off figuring she was right at that time. But soon she calls another aid over and they literally stand over watching me struggle to open it. Of course I eventually got pretty mad and she finally opened it after what seemed like a century. Second, the bullying. I was always a major target for any bully at this school. What is so funny about this is how the school always talked about a "no bullying" policy yet the teachers didn't even bother to follow it themselves. I remember my mom had had a meeting with the principal and she had told my mom I was on a "scale". Saying | was below bullying. Which I guess meant I technically wasn't being bullied despite me getting verbally abused by other children each and every day. And the one time I actually stood up for myself I was always the one to get in trouble. There was this one incident that still upsets me even almost 10 years later. Some girls were picking on me, normal stuff, but I finally had the courage to yell back. I never laid a hand on them. Just simply wanted to stand my ground. All of a sudden, my old teachers aid from TK (she still worked at the school after | was in her class), grabbed my wrists and started to pull me away from them. She was restraining me. I have sensory issues so of course this just made me more upset and even terrified. Her cold hands grabbing me and pulling me, I'll never forget that. I even told her I wasn't going to hurt them. Sorry this review was so long but thank you to anyone who reads this. I want to help kids like me who are being mistreated without anyone knowing it. I want people like me to be safe and enjoy a normal school life like any other child. Once again, if you have a disabled child, it is for their own good to not send them here. If you see something, say something.
