A tiny slice of a 5" Very Berry pie with whipped cream.

Mourningkill Farm's baked good are available at select stores and restaurants. They are primarily a wholesale maker selling to local organizations in their area. I first tried one of their pies at Blake 925 Deli. I found their pies (5" and 10") and tea cakes at the Niskayuna Coop. I believe gluten free pies are also available at Honest Weight Food Coop. Their baked goods, especially the pies, are very good. They aren't cloyingly sweet; they strike a balance between the natural tartness of berries (I had the Very Berry) and just the right amount of sweetness. The crust also has a nice texture; the bite and flake of it pleasant. Another thing I notice when I read their tea bread ingredient list, I can pronounce every single one of the ingredients. Banana, cane sugar, wheat flour...salt. No artificial nothin'. Not only are the breads and pies good, they're wholesome! That's what I tell myself when I'm eating a second slice in one sitting.

A new flavor for us to try!

MEA CULPA!! Time to display my ignorance. There are NO CHESTNUTS in any of the pies from Mourningkill Farm. It was not chestnuts that helped me to enjoy any of their pies. If you see one of their pies labeled as Lemon Chess, or Peanut Butter Chess, etc., "Chess" is a style of pie. Chess pies originated in the Southern United States. They contain corn meal in the filling along with other ingredients. Some believe that the Lemon Chess pie got its name because English lemon curd pie filling is like the lemon chess filling, and they also believe the word "chess" is an Americanization of the English word "cheese," referring to that curd pie. I on the other hand, prefer to accept the explanation that, it being a Southern U.S. originated recipe, a cook on a plantation made up this recipe and when asked what she had made, her answer was: "just pie." Which when delivered in a Southern accent could easily be misheard as "chess pie." A pie by any other name is still a pie. And no matter how you may slice it, Mourningkill's Chess pies are delicious. This Lemon Chess pie is not as tart as many lemon pies. It also is not overly sweet. The filling has a relatively light texture, as opposed to lemon curd or lemon pudding, and of course the crust is the usual Mourningkill tasty and flaky texture. These most recent pie purchases are from Waterwheel Village in Galway.

    Cherry in front.

The real deal! 100% handmade fresh pies. Which would be a cool story even if the pies were just ok... but the pies are fantastic! Crust is the perfect texture to carry the fresh fruit, which is not too sweet. It's hard to do simple and make it excellent. These guys and gals got it down! Will be back next time I'm in the area. We picked up 9 varieties this time. Cut into the blueberry crumb and the double crust cherry so far. Both were the kind of pie where you just want more. I'll update when we try the other 7! Thank you Morningkill! We put the other seven out at a party with 20 people and they were all gone within an hour. What more do you wanna know?

The meat is butchered beautifully from tail to snout and the items that i bought on a recent visit were all exceptional: - Skirt Steak: outstanding and juicy - I added a light coating of oil and salt, then finished on the grill with some smoked blue cheese on top - not sure if i ever had a better steak - Chicken Wings: simply seasoned and slow cooked on the grill with salt and some mixed seasonings my friend had in his cupboard - took on the texture of frying - and the quality of these wings is revelatory - Split Chicken Breasts (bone and skin in): similar prep to the wings and crisped up the skin on higher heat at the end - beautiful - smoked turkey, smoked ham and roast beef - sliced for sandwiches - the smoked meat tends to be a bit dry - so add some mayo or butter yer bread and then heat it first - but 1st rate quality - chicken feet for my dog - he's still dreaming bout these and for $1.50 per - get a bunch - they were just smoked - soft - they last for a long time and will harden, but my pooch ate em all quickly please go here. am absolute home run. They have a butcher shop and farmers market inside where they carry all sorts of meats and fresh produce, locally made baked goods, milk, the freshest of eggs, yogurt and cheeses! What a delight! Karen, the woman who runs the counter, is incredibly friendly and helpful! She goes out of her way to help her customers. I look forward to chatting with her every time I go. The one thing to be aware of though is that they are only open Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Tip for the wise: Don't go too late or everything will be picked over!

A farm with a store, sounds fabulously simple right? I mean that in the very best way possible…read more These awesome people want to feed their community with fresh food and they are doing it in the best way possible. You can drive there yourself and check out the farm and the store OR they will drive to you and deliver you farm goodness to your front step. Where they really shine is in a big something called a bundle. It's basically your weekly meal planning, shopping and prep work in one. I'm talking not just the peppers for your taco Tuesday but the washed and chopped peppers, you hear me busy momma?! They deliver all over the capital district too. I'm a weird breed that actually enjoys grocery shopping and food prep but there is no voodoo magic that could get me this amount of price for the extremely reasonable price Gorsky's charges.

I was so excited to try Gorsky's Farm delivery service. Meal prep is hard with two working parents…read moreand a toddler. I loved the idea of having my meals prepared and ready to heat up when we got home. I posted to their Facebook page asking for help navigating their website to place a delivery order. The owner (I think) answered right away, we commented back and forth, Great Week Bundle order placed, hunky dory. Delivery day came and went, with no delivery. I Facebook messaged the owner. No response. I emailed the owner. No response. I tried calling the number on their Facebook page. It's suspended. It was a hot mess scramble to feed my family that evening, which is our normal and exactly what I was hoping to avoid via this delivery. Finally I commented (which I later discovered they deleted) on one of their posts asking for an update. They responded via Messenger and said their truck broke down and would update me ASAP. A few days came and went with no update. I gave up and asked for a refund via Messenger. They responded quickly to that and agreed to refund. Days passed, no refund. Finally, I escalated to Paypal and got my refund. I get it's a working farm. Really, I do. Stuff happens. But I dropped a lot of money on food that never arrived. I shouldn't have had to jump through hoops to a) get satisfactory customer service from the owners, and b) get a refund. As I said earlier, Gorsky's delivery service is an amazing concept that I want to support! But unless they improve their customer service and communication, I will not be trying again anytime soon.
