Lots of variety for different bouldering levels
    Alyanna C.

Bouldering and pickleball seems to be the trending activity... I opted to get into bouldering in the last year, and Movement Santa Clara was part of my journey. PROS Great bouldering gym especially if you want to get started on bouldering - seriously this gym is great for introduction to bouldering. I only started bouldering a little over 6 months ago with little upper body strength and zero climbing experience. Also a fear of heights / falling. Unlike other climbing gyms, there are a lot of beginner friendly "V Intro" routes where you can build your confidence into V0 and V1. When I was starting out I liked climbing the routes near the kids area, since I could climb into the kids area to get down. Since this Movement location is only focused on bouldering, there are actually a lot of routes available for a variety of levels, from beginner to advanced. Some routes focus on specific techniques or holds. As a fitness gym, I like the equipment and facilities - for the most part the locker rooms are clean and they have a good collection of equipment for cardio and weights. The rowing machines are even the same brand as the ones from Row House (RIP). I've never felt like it got too crowded in the fitness area. The yoga room is very nice and clean compared to your regular gym studio - they have a good variety of yoga classes for different levels. I tend to enjoy doing yoga here since unlike a regular yoga class at a City Sports or Crunch Fitness, they can offer more challenging options due to the climber demographic. Yoga mats and equipment like blocks and straps are provided free of charge, with mats cleaned after every class. First Fridays of the month are BOGO for day passes or free guests for members. CONS The vibe can be a pro or con depending on how you view it - disclaimer, this may be a California thing and I am not used to it being from Washington. This is one of the most crowded climbing gyms I have seen - this seems to be the case with almost all climbing gyms in the Bay Area though. The best times to try climbing are during the day on the weekdays or during the day on a weekend. But if you try coming after 4 pm on a weekday expect wait times to climb routes and crowding. Climbing is a great social activity... but I never quite understand the need to have groups of 5+ hanging out and taking up space in the mats or walkways while one person is climbing. Also keep in mind First Fridays of the month are a bit of a madhouse - those days tend to be extra crowded since members can bring guests free and day passes are half off if you come as 2 people. You can expect to run into the following vibes if you come here regularly: Gym Tech Bros: The loud obnoxious kind - this is silicon valley after all Pick Up Artists: This is more amusing than annoying... but my partner and I notice the amount of folks looking for a potential date here than most gyms Influencers: A lot of cool bouldering videos on Instagram take place here - those people are respectful about filming. The part that can be obnoxious are the ones that aren't in it for the sport but for the likes. Unsupervised Daycare: Climbing is a great activity for kids... when supervised by the staff in a camp or responsible parent. Unfortunately I tend to see parents let their kids roam free like a playground - it becomes extra important to look before falling. Or check when continuing to climb in case a kid decides to climb under you. OVERALL The above are my observations of the culture around this gym, but it shouldn't reflect upon how the staff and facilities are. The staff here are awesome and helpful; we had some issues where our membership card wasn't scanning in the beginning and they were quick in resolving it. Shoe and chalk bag rentals are available, but they also sell a variety of climbing shoes onsite that you can try before buying. Plenty of parking available onsite... but on busy days, expect to park further or have to make a few rounds before getting a spot. Again, if you want to check out bouldering for the first time or need to convince your friend to get into it... this is a really good gym to get started.

This was my first time trying bouldering and I took Intro to bouldering class that was free for first time comers. It was amazing! They provide you with the shoes and chalks, it can be rented also moving forward. The coach was good, explained everything and gave a tour. Then I had my free time trying to climb the walls. The gym is pretty big, they have showers, lockers, heavy lifting area and equipment. So for sure I recommend this place!

I've been on the hunt for new activities around the Bay Area and happy I was introduced to Movement by a friend. It was my first time here and it was harder than what I expected. I love to try new things and rock climbing was on my list. I've noticed how popular it's become and a lot of my friends were getting into this sport so why not? The reason why I enjoyed this gym was mainly because of the staff and the environment. The front desk had about 4-6 staff members working at the time when I came around 8pm on a Tuesday. I forgot the gentleman's name but he was extremely helpful with the onboarding process. I came here with my partner and we were going to buy the day pass + the shoes but he informed us that since it was our first time and came with a member we got in for free. So awesome. Anyways, I couldn't get past the different levels and stayed at V1 majority of the time. It was extremely busy during this time and I'm not sure if this is just me but I got nervous when trying it because there were so many eyes on me. Overall, I got over my fear of heights and tried something new. A win is a win!

This is a great venue for climbers or for someone looking to practice endurance. The place has various levels and so you can try the ones you are comfortable with. I do want to point out that they need to install some heavy duty air filters. By the end of the hour, I was coughing due to the chalk dust that's flying everywhere. If you frequent this place, I'm afraid you will end up with lung problems. I hope the owner will at least invest into setting up few portable air filters if the central unit is too expensive. It's probably cheaper than someone getting sick and potentially claim damage.

This place is 100% bouodering. Two people here are so generous and patient Devin: so kind and patient while we figured out everything and finally someone who suggested if this is your first time, try a day pass and have the kids get used to the facility and wall setups. Shea: kindest person. Watched quietly from behind while a girl was helping up sign up. Shea saw the annoyance on my face and took over. Shea taught my kid how to fall and protect themselves, and walked them over to the areas on where to begin and how to navigate the walls. Devin and Shea seriously are the best people here!! Small facility; they have beginner wall for kids/adults as well which helps them get familiar with climbing.

My friend had a membership here and its free to try out for your first time. We went on a Saturday around 3pm which was the perfect time to go because it wasn't busy at all! This place has a gym, bouldering, bathrooms with showers, locker rooms, sitting area. Monthly is on the pricier side but it's worth if you plan on going multiple times a week. Front desk staff was friendly and the place overall was clean. 5/5! I was SORE the day after I tried this. It's a huge area where all ages can come and climb! There's a special area for kids to start off as well. Great challenges and my friend told me that they would implement new levels to try couple of weeks. I would recommend bringing chalk so you can have a better grip when climbing. Be mindful of others when they are climbing and make sure that you have enough space between because it can be dangerous.

Been to a lot of rock climbing gyms in the past with ropes but this is the first 100% bouldering gym I have been too. Came to try out the facilities including the weight training and bouldering walls. You can buy and rent accessories here necessary for climbing including shoes and chalk, snacks as well. Gym: most similarly resembles a classic CrossFit box with the Rogue Rigs, barbells, and open floor layout. They are equipped with plenty of equipment and space to do traditional power lifting and Olympic lifting with at least half a dozen places to set up a barbell. Pull ups bars are plentiful and they have variety with kettle bells, medicine balls, and free weights. Was not busy at all but I think it's because the main attraction is the bouldering. Bouldering: welcome to your playpen. You have a plethora of options for various skills levels, Intro to expert. Multiple challenges at each skill level available and the wait is never longer than a couple minutes even on a busy Saturday. Highly recommend checking it out, even as a first timer.

We had our daughter's 12th birthday party here. She got to have up to 10 people, including herself. It's not a cheap birthday party but it was hassle free for us and her and her friends all had a blast. Cons: It smells like feet, but you adjust after a bit. There is no outside food or drink allowed, but that makes sense given the activity Pros: 1.5 hours of climbing time Friendly and knowledgeable staff/hosts Fun environment Differing levels of difficulty My 1 star is just because it was crowded and smelled like feet, but maybe that's not a negative for others!

    Almost upside down.

The entire practice was framed around "knowing your rights." The instructor began by quizzing us on the first few amendments--"What is the Fourth Amendment?" and similar questions, before launching into discussions of ICE protocols, protest rights, and police interaction limitations. At the end of class, he attempted to recite all ten amendments from the Bill of Rights, asking us to identify each one as he went. For marginalized communities, particularly Latinx, Black, Indigenous, and undocumented populations, these subjects are not theoretical exercises but lived experiences laden with systemic fear and real consequences. The instructor asked if anyone wanted a consent card for physical adjustments but never asked if we consented to having traumatic political topics brought up in what should have been a safe, restorative space. This is a profound violation of basic trauma-informed care principles. Responsible facilitation of these topics requires psychological safety, informed consent, and recognition that those most impacted do not need a civics lesson from a yoga instructor in a space meant for refuge. Yoga's fundamental purpose is nervous system regulation and sanctuary. This session achieved neither. When I addressed this with the instructor afterward, his response was: "I'm still going to talk about this, so how should I do it?" The question itself reveals the problem--believing you have the right to discuss trauma-laden political topics in a wellness space without first asking if you should. This will be my final session with core power. Moving forward, I hope this type of class will not continue. I want to add our rights are being taken every day and people are being killed for what he was suggesting to do. Which was record the police. It's triggering because why are you bringing up if you don't know your right they will be stripped from you?

There is only one wall with a mirror so if you do come late, there may be a chance where you won't be able to check your posture during yoga, but the instructors are quite nice and will help you reposition.

EDIT: Owner responded and said that they were upset that I questioned the cleanliness of the studio…read morebecause people were putting weights, mats, and towels back in the cubbies where people would normally go get new ones. I saw multiple people look confused as to where to place things back. I asked if there were wipes so I could wipe down my station and was told that the entire studio was disinfected including every single weight, and all towels were washed. I was doubtful since some of the classes on the class schedule were back to back. So basically they're tone policing me and telling me I looked dissatisfied, and then REPORTED me over that. ****I would personally not recommend going to a studio where they ban people for asking questions and being cautious.**** I went to one class and they banned me for asking for help, which is wild. I came early with my coworker and was excited to work out with her. During the class I moved through all the movements and asked for a modification during a lunge. I also asked for help when I wasn't feeling a stretch at the end of class. The instructor simply said "well I guess you just won't feel it then" and walked away. Other than that, I did not interact with the instructor. 2 days later I received an email saying I was banned because of my "behavior toward the instructor." I think this decision was more about the instructor's ego than anything else. I definitely don't recommend coming here unless you are someone with no fitness background and would rather be in silent pain than ask for help. And don't even bother if you have any sort of problems at all! Knee injury? Back pain? "Guess you just won't feel it then." I also want to share that I had an alternative experience at a local yoga studio where I was tentative about things and despite that, everyone made me feel incredibly welcome and invited me back. Even though it wasn't my cup of tea, I gave it a fair shot and have nothing but great things to say about the studio and team there and reviewed it accordingly. It really doesn't have to end this way, but some businesses are just really feedback-averse and that's disappointing to see.

A cute and compact little boutique gym that is beginner friendly. I came here to do yoga and it was…read moreentry level and NOT heated. This was a big plus for my friend! The studio fit around 10 people for yoga! Mats and towels were provided. This was slow paced and guided, which is why it feels very entry level. Restorative and calming! Thank you Phoenix Bick-Maurischat for the yogaFLOW! This was a great use of my ClassPass.
