This climbing gym was converted from an old theater in downtown San Jose. Very cool! You can find small details remaining from the previous theater. Smaller location, but we enjoyed coming here very much. They do have the top roping here, a huge plus. Street parking only, but we had no issues parking on the same block the two times we went. We look forward to visiting again in the future when we are in the Bay Area!

    Squat racks...minimal bumper plates.

This review is only for the *fitness* portion of "The Studio," not the climbing portion. I've visited nine of Touchstone's fourteen climbing gyms around the state, and while The Studio definitely embodies many of Touchstone's great qualities, it also falls short in some respects. Unlike many of Touchstone's other gyms, the fitness section at The Studio definitely feels like an afterthought. There's definitely enough here to get a workout in, but there's also many things that you won't be able to do. The Studio has a full range of dumbells, two squat racks, multiple benches, barbells, a few kettlebells, a few cable machines, and some cardio machines. The most glaring omissions are bumper plates (they have a couple 10lb bumper plates, but don't expect to be able to deadlift or olympic lift here), as well as a lifting platform. The space is also fairly small and I can see it getting really crowded during nights and weekends. Around the rest of the gym, there's clean bathrooms with lockers and showers, all the drinks and snacks you would expect to find at a gym like this, and a helpful staff.

Great facility. There are so many options for top roping. They also have a gym. And their bouldering section was great too. Their labeling is very easy to understand. They also have shoes and chalk bags for rent. Their restrooms have showers and lockers which is also so helpful. Beautiful climbing gym overall.

Walls here are slippery, no frictions heh

My first time visiting the Studio because I go to Movement, and don't live close by, and don't want to go through the hassle of finding parking around the area. But the gym itself is cute and clean and all around really enjoyable. I went on a weekday morning, and it was not crowded at all. Just a couple of people climbing, and route setters were working on the roof area, which is likely a third of the boulders available, but not a problem for me as I hate roofs. Lol. Route settings are interesting, even for some V2s they made it fun to do. They list out the muscle group that you will use when climbing a problem, such as biceps, which is super informative. I see a worker vacuums the mat, and I never seen this happened at Movement gyms. Not sure if it's just the timing of cleaning. Note that the walls here are low friction walls! I was surprised by it, getting used to the sand paper like walls at Movement. It's all personal preference and it's interesting to read online about the two different types of walls and how people like them. I personally like sand paper walls, but I can tolerate low friction walls if that helps me with my footwork. Workers are very friendly. Front desk guy made me feel like home as we share the same birth month and day.

A great spot for climbing nestled into the heart of DTSJ -- this spot has a fun marquee at the entrance, and the space is set up in a really cool way! It had been a while since I'd been bouldering, but I came by and ended up having a really fun Sunday morning. The day pass and rental together came out at just shy of $35, so it was a fair price given that we stayed for a few hours. Parking here could be a bit of a headache, given that it's downtown, but we were able to find a spot right in front since we got there early in the day. The have a fair number of bouldering walls and the routes are varied with different types of climbs and marketing by difficulty. I wish they were sorted by color, but they were still super easy to identify on the walls. It wasn't crazy busy on a Sunday, which meant that I got to try a lot more of the routes. The real star of the show was the top rope walls! We got too tired before we switched over, but will definitely be returning to try those out. They have all of the harness and belay equipment, as well. There are so many to try, and I'll be back next time I'm in SJ!

have visited it once for an introduction class and some practice afterwards, and loved it a lot! I've never done climbing before but the people who work there are very helpful. the gear is included in the price of the ticket but you can bring your own if you have it. also don't forget chalk!

I just wanted to give an updated review for The Studio. After almost three years since my initial review, The Studio still remains 5/5 stars :) They have made renovations to the flooring, added great classes, and continue to have great staff. I come about 1-3x/week, usually once on the weekend and 1-2 times during the week after work. Workday evenings continue to be the busiest but everyone is so friendly and everyone has great climbing manners. I prefer climbing on the weekends since it is a little emptier in the bouldering area. The Studio changes their climbing routes at a perfect frequency, giving us long enough time to work on projects while preventing us from getting bored from the same routes. I primarily boulder but occasionally top rope. Both areas have new squishy flooring which is fantastic and a good variety of routes to challenge the new climbers as well as the seasoned ones. The staff is great, always greeting us when we enter and leave. They give great tips if they happen to be walking around the bouldering section while we are stuck on something. They also validate 2 hours of parking at the Convention Center garage:)

Local places they have climbing walls for beginners and advance between 25 to 45 feet high I have yoga studios I have a ton of workout equipment so not only can you do your climbing but you could also go to work out and relaxation meditation. They offer guides and they also offer group sessions if you want to do teambuilding

The gym itself was pretty nice, with friendly staff. The issue we've had was how filthy the mats were. We were one of the first ones in so it means those aren't cleaned overnight. We stayed for a few hours and saw the employee attempt to vacuum the mat during the working hours, however the mat still looked extremely dirty afterwards. I wish I could give the gym a higher rating, all the other touchstone gyms didn't have this issue.

Remember those days in the playground and their climbing structures? Well, as an adult, The Peak is the place to reignite that hobby and enjoy the sport with a rich community of professionals and enthusiasts. This huge facility is shared among The Peak's climbing structures, an indoor volleyball court, a casual restaurant, and a small arcade. There aren't many parking spots up front but around the back of the building, you'll see plentiful spots. Once you enter the building, head to the left through the glass doors where you'll see the many climbing walls speckled with multiple colored protrusions. The pricing is transparent and it's all available upfront. They do have day passes, multi-visit passes as well as memberships that will waive your entrance fee. In addition to the entrance fee, you may also be required to pay for the harness and shoe rentals (members get a discounted price). They also have chalk for the more advanced climbers. If it's your first time, consider completing the waiver online ahead of time. You may be asked to go through a quick orientation regarding the use of their auto-belay system, however if you already know how to belay traditionally, they may ask you to go through additional training just to be sure. Each wall seemed to feature a variety of colors to distinguish the different difficulty levels for more advanced climbers. Aside from the walls, they also have a huge structure designed for bouldering with a thick padded floor underneath. The boulder and auto-belay walls seemed the most popular but it didn't seem there was much waiting given the ample space in the facility. There was certainly enough climbing space for everyone. As a novice, the activity was fun and tiring; there's definitely a balance between technique and strength! Despite having entry for the whole day, we definitely were tired out within an hour of constant climbing and by hour two, it was just about time to leave and refuel. Fortunately, the location of this space is quite convenient due to having a restaurant right on site as well as its proximity to the highway and other eateries just a few minutes away. The staff were friendly and informative. Besides the initial onboarding, there wasn't much interaction with them. They seem to keep things organized, cleaned and well-maintained. Overall, The Peak does a fantastic job introducing the sport of climbing to the local community and providing a clean and safe environment for newbies and experts alike. The price is reasonable for an all day activity and even more so if you become a member. For kids, they also have camps to build a new passion and train them up as climbers. For the more serious climbers, you may want to consider investing in the equipment to further save on the rentals. If this is a new challenge for you, take the opportunity to get in on this sport! The Peak makes it relatively easy to pick this up and continue leveling up with each visit!

All climbing gyms have something of a funk, but this place is the worst. I joined to take the yoga classes mostly, but that's a hard pass. Classes start on time, but the gym allows members to show up late. When they do, they move the curtain, light up the whole room, and the noise of 100 climbers floods the room. Right in the time when you're settling in and trying to focus. Then the weight room is above the yoga room, so you get to hear weights slamming down during class, which is also disruptive. I found the classes super uneven, some being great (Bronwyn) and others being a weird combo of loud music over soft voices so you can't hear the instructor, or instructors borderline shouting at folks to expel breath as loud as possible. Not what I'm looking for. So, no problem, it's not for me. It's close to home, price is reasonable, and they have good climbing facilities. Boulder area isn't the best, but the rest of it is quite good with interesting routes changed often...enough. When I went to cancel, I was hit with a "policy" that you have to cancel on or before the 25th of a month or they will charge you for another month. I reached out on the 26th, 5 days before the next charge cycle. Seemed like plenty. Complained, go zero response.
