Went in and got our seat, (very comfortable) and sat down to get all comfy when Ben rolled up on us. Ben was really friendly and took the time to make sure we were all taken care of. The theater itself is nice, but old. The theaters are large, comfy, and clean. Staff are friendly enough. What I'm not happy about is my food order being incorrect and tipping being auto added to my receipt. I ordered a regular sized Coke. I received a xlg Coke in a ridiculous plastic character themed cup, that I do not want, at a higher price. They give you your receipt in the dark. You don't notice the tip has already been added, so you unknowingly double tip. We were auto charged 20% tip at a movie theater for only 2 people. read more

This was our first time here, and we had a great time! We were invited by Amazon Prime to a theater screening. For staters, they have been renovated, and they have a full bar! They have lots of beers on tap, and a specialized cocktail menu! They also are set up to show Sunday football games... cheap cold beer, and big screen TV's! It's worth considering! The building was clean, including the restrooms. They do not take orders at your seat, but they do deliver food to your seat! If the concession line is long, you can order at the bar, and they will deliver to your seat!! We had the bacon cheeseburger. Totally legit! Crispy bun, well cooked, real meat, melted cheese, and crispy bacon. One of the best burgers I have had in a while! We got the 12" pizza. It's super thin crust, works for a snack... probably won't hold you over! Each topping is additional, so a meat lovers or veggie lovers will break the bank! We had the bacon w/ the hot honey drizzle, and it was delicious! The theater was large and clean. Although my chair didn't recline (theater 5, row G) it seemed every other one in the theater did. [Update, Dec 25, 2023] It has been a long time since I've been to Movie Tavern. I wasn't sure what to expect considering the service changes over the past few years (no ordering from your seat, etc). However, I was PLEASANTLY surprised. The theater seats and tables seem updated from the original bench-table setup from years ago. Buying a ticket and ordering food online was actually better than dealing with ordering from a chair in a dark loud theater. I ordered a pizza and it was really good. For real, the pizza was nice and crispy with a lot of toppings and it was the perfect size. The chicken tenders and fries were great, too. Service was friendly and they were all working quickly with a smile on this Christmas Day. Great place. I'm glad the theater survived the rough past few years and I think the place is better now than before. And big thanks to the crew for working on Christmas so people can enjoy a movie. read more

I must say the vision and vibe are great but the execution was atrocious. The seats had greasy fingerprints on the arms and near the buttons. My husband's chair was a bit janky but he eventually got it to work. We ordered food and drinks at the beginning of the movie but they didn't bring it out so about 30 min after the time the first order was supposed to be delivered I had to miss the movie and go track someone down to ask about it. My daughter and a friend ordered a pizza to share that was not cut into slices and arrived cold along with the popcorn we both ordered. There was only one employee in the whole theater was pleasant and tried to make it a good experience for us. The food runner was definitely going at a very slow turtle crawl when I saw her strolling in the hallway. It's no wonder the food wasn't coming out on time, they must have had only 5 people on staff that night. I don't think we will return here unless some significant improvements are made. read more

i went to see the minecraft movie yesterday and had the worst service. we ordered one popcorn, one drink and some fries and it added up to $40!!! but the crazy part it we never even go our food. we sat there, the whole hour and forty minutes this movie was, watched everyone around us get there food and we got nothing. they claimed that they were backed up but it's not like you cook popcorn or a root beer!! you just put it in a cup like that makes no sense. i'm never coming back here again because my whole experience of watching the minecraft movie was ruined because i was just stressed about the food since i spent so much money on it and never received it. yall need to get it together. studio movie grill has never had this issue EVER. be better. hire better chefs or something because there's no reason you cant add popcorn to a bucket or rootbeer to a cup. read more

OMG I must say we had an awesome time. Our server Noah was the best!!!! At first I was a little skeptical from the pics I saw on Google I was a little worried but, they were the closest so we decided to give them a try. When I say I was very impressed. It was bigger that I anticipated and way nicer than the pics.... The kids and my husband enjoyed watching Smallfoot. The drinks and food was awesome. Sorry I did t get pics but will next time of food. We had popcorn, cheese pizza, and sweet tea with lemon.... y'all know I love my sweet tea!!!!! So I was in heaven it was just right.... We will definitely be back. I see a date night in our future. The staff was great. Everyone was polite and hospitable. The decorations were cool. I used to be a big fan of the movie tavern because of the full service aspect of their business model. We went to see Top Gun Maverick over the weekend and you now have to use the app to order food or go to the bar, and you can't order alcohol on the app so I had to go to the bar. We originally chose Movie Tavern as we planned to have a meal and drinks with the movie. Instead I ordered the wife a popcorn, and glass of tea and myself a beer. I got my beer immediately but they said they would bring the tea and popcorn to seat. It took almost 30 minutes to get the tea and popcorn and then the tea had no ice. If you are going to still be claiming Covid as the reason for abandoning your business model then you should change your business model and go back to having concession stands. All that said, my next movie outing will most likely not be back to the Movie Tavern. read more

I like that you get a free little popcorn if your a member. However, if you're planning on buying food.. go to a different theater. The food has really gone downhill. I got fried pickles and a pizza. The fried pickles were tough and the ranch was gross. The pizza was nice and crispy but the toppings were not good at all and tasted very cheap. This place has changed a whole lot since the new addition and the old days of rolling chairs and long tables (changed in a good way)! I came to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2 in 3D and surprisingly this theater was the most affordable at $7.50 each for a matinee ticket. The leather reclining seats were very comfortable and of course there's the convenience of being able to catch a movie and have at the same time. My only complaint was that the server could've been a bit quieter at the last call for food/drink. We could hear her asking the 2 rows behinds us and the row in front of us if they wanted anything else to eat or drink. Aside from my one complaint I had a great movie watching experience and I'll definitely be coming back here to see more movies in the future! read more

Back in the day it used to be amazing - we ordered the quesadilla and a order of chicken tenders for the movie. Then a sundae for dessert and I had a glass of house wine. If we ever go back & plan on eating it'll probably just be another sundae because the food was a no in our book. We even traded orders and couldnt stomach it. What a waste. Oh, Movie Tavern. You spent all this money renovating your theater and still can't get it right. Before the renovation, Movie Tavern had only a few theaters however the menu selection and affordable prices made up for it. Boy how things have changed! With the renovation, there are more screenings for the shows but the menu is overpriced. $4.75 for a soft drink aka a soda. Luckily I'm a fan of free water. People come to Movie Tavern to see a movie and to eat so why is your service so slow? It took our waiter about 6 minutes to take our order for two people and we weren't able to split anything on the bill (i.e. the appetizer). Side note: Half the menu is overpriced drinks ranging from $9 - $12 for a small size with limited food selections in the back half of the menu. By the time we received our appetizer AND meal at the same time, the movie had already started so of course this is annoying. We were limited by space because we had meals and an appetizer at once. We also were limited with light since the movie had started. I ordered a platter with sliders, wings, and bacon cheese fries which was $16.95. I received three blandly dry sliders on a cold Hawaiian bun, about seven fries with only enough trashy cheap cheese to cover about two of the fries and only a few bacon bits. The wings were pretty good though! Our appetizer of fried pickles was disgusting. They were spears so they were bigger than the usual fried pickles which meant the batter didn't stay on when you bit into the pickle. The batter also had no flavour. Gross. On the plus side, we saw Ocean's 8. The movie was funny! I loved it and I loved seeing Sandra Bullock back on the big screen. read more

Wow, they will NOT stop tinkering with this menu! The new updated building is beautiful and I love the new seats and theaters, but the menus are different literally every month, and not for the better. All the local beers options are gone and the drink menu is aggressively average. There are absolutely no menu items that stay the same, so every time I come it's a whole new laundry list of options (the menu is well over half alcoholic drinks now, too). It would be nice to have some "classic" or consistent menu options. This isn't some high-class restaurant where people come every few months to see what the head chef has concocted, it's a movie theater. I miss when I could come and order the Godfather pizza or the King Kong burger and relax instead of hunting through the revolving door menu of weird new fish meals. If they want to play catch-up instead of sticking to their fun tavern style (which would be great), Movie Tavern needs to stop copying Studio Movie Grill (which totally sucks) and aim for Moviehouse & Eatery (awesome, consistent, and delicious). read more

So, I was not exactly looking forward to lunch after experiencing another sit down, lounger movie place in Flowermound. As we rolled in, I wondered if MT would "up it's game" since they'll be facing increased competition when Alamo City opens up this summer. As I perused the new menu, I began to grow excited. Hey, food is a serious thing in my book, and the prices charged at these type venues are not cheap. The inlaws went with burgers. My hubby settled on nachos and I took a leap of faith with the Asian bowl. Though we ordered drinks first, they came out way later. We started with the fried dill pickle spears. The fried pickles are good if you like pickles. I suspect they're frozen because the batter is way too uniform. My hubby didn't offer to share any nachos so I assume were good. Mom said the burger was better than average. The Asian bowl was actually very good! Well, you know, it hit the spot if you like that kind of food. The shrimp still had their tails on but were 3 bites each. There was pickled cucumbers, kimchi, lots of mint, maybe some basil, some white enoki mushrooms all displayed on a bed of rice. It was too much to finish and there was a lot of mint. But, it was a vast improvement from previous experiences! I'm looking forward to trying the sweet potato tots or cauliflower bites! I also love that you can now choose your own seats, and the spacious walkways. Cons: The menu is terrible. You have to look hard to find anything under 1000 calories, and what you find is still heavy on the calories. There are menu options over 2000 calories. That's ridiculous. Bottom line: Eat before, drink at Movie Tavern, enjoy the comfy seats. read more

I think Movie Tavern is probably one of the best theaters in Denton. I use to say it was Alamo Drafthouse, but their prices have gone up on tickets, and then last time I was there I had to share a table with someone. To address some of the recent concerns, I have seen posted. Yes, you have to order at the bar as there are no longer servers, and the prices on food may have gone up--you can blame COVID, inflation, and lack of workers in the US right now. Won't be back, will go to the Alamo where you can get food or drinks anytime during the movie. We also complained about a family in front of us that let their toddler watch cartoons on their phone through the entire movie, with the volume up. This movie theater was a nice surprise, we went here recently for the first time. They have reclining seats like you would expect. They have a fairly extensive menu with both healthy and "less" healthy food options. They also seem to have a pretty extensive drink menu. The movie experience was good too, I didn't think that the waiters walked by more than I expected them to. It kind of depends on how many people needs drinks etc throughout the movie. Movie Tavern is not what it used to be. For the past couple of years, my wife and I have not experienced great customer service like we did several years ago. We've had one specific server more than once who doesn't seem to have a customer-focused attitude and was rather bitchy. But we loved the food drinks! We also like to support local businesses, so we kept coming back. Over time, the food didn't seem to be as good as it used to be. Recently, we decided to give it another try. While the server was better (and not the bitchy one), and the drinks were great, the food was not good at all. The General Tso Cauliflower appetizer was soggy and gross. It used to be our favorite appetizer. Our quesadillas and nachos were less than great as well. Unfortunately, I doubt we will be back to Movie Tavern anytime soon. read more
