Took my mower into Mower Works in early April to get it repaired and tuned up. But trying to get any .. I mean ANY ... response from them was pointless. No updates, no ETAs nothing! These SOBs ghosted me for all those weeks. I texted them, called them, even texted them from their website. NOTHING! No response, no ETA, nothing! Finally, today I get a text saying the mower is ready. What the hell, guys? I am never going back to that place again. PS: It looks like "ghosting" residential customers is the way they roll. Damn. Had Battery Issues with New Toro Mower I had just purchased they are the closet Authorized Toro Rep. I purchased an automower for my mother during the pandemic 2 years ago and it has only been usefully running 3 months out of the two years. I had it professionally installed and it was filling up with water. Initially they said that it was because of some water accumulation on the side of the house then he said my mothers gutters weren't clean. Now I have a $3000 piece of junk along with several hundred dollars of repairs. They still have my mower and stopped returning my calls. It's been 9 months. Steer clear of this dishonest incompetent operation. Brought my lawnmower in for a jammed starter rope. Three full weeks go by - no communication. When I stop by to see what's up they tell me they will not be able to put the tire back on and show me a busted axle. The axle wasn't broken when I brought in the machine. I just needed the start roped untangled. So not only didn't they fix the first problem, but they created a new problem in the process. Never called me to tell me they screwed up, and then had the gall to charge me a "service fee." It's a small-time scam operation. read more

I do not write reviews ever, but Mowerworks in Barrington provided the worst service I have ever had for anything. First of all, I dropped my mower off for the $100 tune-up service which took about 3 weeks to complete. That was acceptable because I agreed to those terms. Once it was finished I went and picked it up. The first time I used it, I filled it with gas and the carburetor was leaking gas everywhere. I called Mowerwerks to help solve the problem and they told me they could have someone come pick it up a week later which seemed a bit long, but it was what it was. Then after hearing nothing from them for another week, I called and they said that they ordered a new carburetor (not mentioning anything about charging me for it or getting the okay from me to purchase a new carburetor). After 2 more weeks, I got a call from them and they told me I owed them 50 more dollars for the new carburetor. I said that is ridiculous and that my carburetor NEVER once had a problem until I brought it to them for the tune up. Part of the tune up is "checking and adjusting" the carburetor. The service tech. said that their technician must have overlooked the problem initially and that it is just a coincidence that when I got my mower back the carburetor no longer worked correctly. Therefore, they did not do the initial inspection which is part of the tune up package, or they "adjusted" the carburetor and broke it. Either way that is negligence and just poor work ethic. He then insisted that I need to pay the in order for them to release my mower and return it to me. I paid because I want my mower back that has literally taken 11 weeks to do a tune up. I really think they should have eaten the cost of the carburetor as I am convinced they broke it, but I can't prove it. That said, I will never be going to Mowerworks for anything again, and I highly recommend that you stay away for any sort of servicing business. Mower Works is where I get my chainsaw blades sharpened. $8 to sharpen, takes a day. They do a good job. Recommended.

UPDATE: I called them one last time and insisted on speaking to the manager. he called me back at the end of the day, and was apologetic. finally got the mower fixed, and he made good on the coupon offer and then some. repair seems decent so far. Hopefully the service end will be corrected in the future now. UPDATE: after the earlier coupon scam, not picking up the mower, not returning my calls and not returning my email, Mower works has now CHARGED my credit card $80 for the non service. better business bureau? Good place to avoid. I had them pick up my father's riding mower for service. Told them the deck needed adjustment, needed the grease fittings lubed on entire mower, and it was hard to start. They said it would take 2-3 weeks to finish, it was close to 5 weeks. Several hundred dollars later, cuts nice when it runs, but nothing was greased and it's even harder to start than before it was serviced. My dad wanted to call and have them look at it again. I told him we will find another service, we'll need to cut the grass before another 5 weeks. read more

Just picked my chainsaw up from here where I had asked simply to have the choke lever fixed, $70 later they, replaced the spark plug a d have it a tune up. When I asked why it was $70 I asked what about the choke Lee ever the guy looked at me and said "Oh that's fine it just snapped back into place". WTF than why do what I didn't ask for?! read more

I reached out to Mowerworks thinking I had an old Craftsman riding lawn mower that did its job for 20+ years but was on it's way to retirement. I asked that they check it out and see what could be done as it was pretty much shot. Because of the rain I had gotten stuck 5 times in my lawn and what I gave them was full of mud. They picked it up, never complained about the condition, and returned a Craftsman in perfect working condition, detailed in my opinion, and performing better than it has the previous 10 years. Incredible service, incredible patience, and most of all saved me thousands of dollars on a new lawn mower. Will be going back yearly for check up now that I know what a mower is supposed to sound and look like. Thank you! read more

I came in to see if I could get a deal on one of their Simplicity riding mowers since they're authorized dealers. I was told Simplicity is not their "main brand" so I asked what it was. It happens to be Ariens. Other than 24 month financing, nothing for that either. I though dealers were places where prices were negotiable. If I wanted set prices, I would have gone to Home Depot/Lowes. read more

Several years ago I needed my 21" self propelled mower serviced so it would run properly. It wasn't a brand they sell, but they took it in. The service wasn't cheap, actually more than other places, but what was more off-putting was every time they referred to it as a push mower, in what I discerned as in a condescending, insulting way. Excuse me! In the past couple of days I'd been looking for a part for another engine I'm working on myself and made a few phone calls hoping to find one. Mower Works is a dealer for this brand, and although their website showed the part number and the cost, when I called they said they didn't have it but could order it. I didn't say yes but went there in person a day or two later, and the guy behind the counter said it would take several days to get, acting like he couldn't be bothered, with no sense of urgency. I wound up ordering it from another place who had written down the part number and my phone number and said they'd have it in two days, in a very cheery, helpful way. What a refreshing difference. These two unrelated experiences gave similar impressions of a business with much less than stellar customer service and an arrogant attitude. I won't be back when I need a new mower in the next couple of years. It's no wonder the place is always empty whenever I drive by there. read more

I would give a zero if I could. Customer service is nonexistent. I have brought my 2014 Toro mower in there 3 times in the past 18 months for repair for the same issue. Last summer after they fixed it and gave it a tune up, the mower ran but it was never quite right. Then this spring it just never started. Each time, I mention that I have had the mower in before for this issue. No one seems to care. No one offers to expedite the repair. No one cares to look into why this issue keeps happening (though they are versed in the old "well, these parts are faulty" mechanic speak). And perhaps strangest of all, not one person (not even the manager) has offered an apology. Every time, no matter who I speak to, it's just the standard "Ok we'll take a look" like a bunch of Big Box cyborgs. They said it would take 2-3 weeks and its been nearly four weeks, and now it is going to take even longer because they are waiting for a part that is on back order. This is the most busch league operation I've ever seen in the 60010 zip code. Save your time and your money. read more

They need to work on customer service. Please call the customer if the equipment will be in longer than expected and give them a price quote. Also, once equipment is repaired and delivery service is needed, get it back to the customer that day or the next day. NOT 5 DAYS LATER because the delivery truck just goes out once/day. read more

My review has nothing to do with service, just parts. My snowthrower needed a few parts and I called around to get what I needed. In another life I was a mechanic so as long as I can get the parts, I can fix it. My snow thrower is a Toro from 1974, it still runs great and throws snow a lot further than any of the newer throwers. So Gravely to the rescue, they had what I needed and even had someone deliver it so I wouldn't have to go out in the foot of snow we just got. Now my thrower is up and running and I'm off to block my @$$hole neighbors driveway with thrown snow. Teach him to let his dog $hit in my yard. ;) read more

Took Chain saw in for a tune up as it would not run well. They did a carb rebuild and blade sharpen at $84. Saw ran no better than when I brought it in. Second solution was to replace crank case seals at $150. I asked for at least a labor refund, said no. Turns out they should have performed a test to begin with and seen these seals leaking. Purchased the seals at $14 and installed myself. read more

I had a terrible experience with Mower Works. The 139.95 Basic tune-up wound up costing me $400. They lied right to my face and didn't bat an eye when I went in there to confront them about the bill. I would never trust them again with any of my equipment. read more
