It's not often we have a poor experience at a Moxies, but this one unfortunately was on that side of the ledger. The service itself was pretty good and the reason it's not a two star review. The interior is typical Moxies, they have that down for sure. The food itself was straight up poor. K's steak was almost cold and overdone, and the potatoes were cold. My grilled chicken Zen bowl has virtually no seasoning. The photo shows the blonde chicken, so not sure where the grilled came from. We probably should have sent K's back, but then I'm finished eating and her food comes again. We don't like to do that. Very disappointed in our experience at this particular Moxies, and sadly they will not get a chance to redeem themselves. read more

Located as part of the Sandman hotel. There is an external entrance at the end of the hotel. I was in Calgary with a work colleague so we wanted something close and walkable. The host mentioned that the restaurant was recently remodeled. We opted to sit on the patio since it was a nice night. We started with the tuna stack and potstickers. Good size portions! For dinner, we ordered the Thai prawn curry laksa. Laksa is one of my favorite Singaporean dishes so excited to try this. Not bad. The curry was on the thin side but the flavors were good for a non-Asian restaurant. The desserts looked great but I was so full from appetizers and the entree. The service was great. The host and waitresses were so nice and attentive. They checked in through dinner. read more

Ordered the Thanksgiving dinner for takeaway. Wish I hadn't. The turkey was cut in big chunks, not sliced. Plus, even though I followed the directions for reheating, the turkey had that gross microwaved taste (even though it wasn't reheated in the microwave). The "root vegetables " were squash - with the peel still on, and undercooked - and zucchini. Nothing special there. Key lime pie for dessert. Not sure how that says thanksgiving. Two bites of that was enough for me. The whipped cream with pecans crushed into it was a nice touch, and the mashed potatoes with gravy was ok, which is why this is a two-star review and not one. read more

Welcome to Moxie's newest location in Calgary. It's warm, it's cozy, it's a little in your face, but most importantly it's all good. From start to finish the service was excellent. My parents and I were seated immediately, had drinks on the table quite quickly, and though it took longer than it should have to get our meals, the server was on top of our table to explain the delay in the kitchen. I had a citrus-y, slushy sort of a drink (can't remember what it's called) that was somewhere between a margarita and a bellini. While it wasn't quite to my taste the drink was well made. I can't knock it because I didn't like it right? I had a steak, medium-rare. The meat was cooked to perfection and the baked potato was excellent. My only complaint about the meal was the veg. it was a chunk of broccoli. At that it was like $0.10 worth of broccoli (check out my picture). It really cheapened the experience for me. The bathrooms are nice and I always appreciate when a restaurant has a Dyson airblade installed. I like that I don't have to stand for 5 minutes for my hands to dry while my drink is sitting on the table betting warm. Also, I'm a legend; or so the bathroom mirror tells me. Good to know. Normally chain-type places like this always end up with a three star review from me, but Moxie's, and this location in particular, just seems to be a slight step above the rest. Side note: This location is in the Sandman Hotel. Why is there a hotel in Heritage Meadows Shopping Centre? It doesn't make sense to me? I guess Ikea lovers can enjoy sleeping across the street? Thought I would post here too. I went in after a bad experience at the Barlow location to see if this place could be any better.... Boy was I ever wrong... The waitress was SO RUDE. Like she didn't wanna even be there at all. Rolling her eyes when you asked for something , forcing you to make a choice fast , forgetting things ,not bringing bills. This experience was worse than the first!! And the manager on duty that night had no clue what he was doing. Seemed like he just wanted to stand around flirting with the waitresses... I did bring this to a higher ups attention and they were amazing .. only reason this review will be getting two stars is because of this higher up at this location. All and all avoid this location though, not impressed with the service at all . read more

We tried this location of Moxies and were very disappointed with the service, not even a refill of water or ice tea. As for the meal, Sue ordered the "unforgettable" honey garlic sirloin steak with stuffed potato. When the server asked if Sue needed anything else, she asked for butter for the potato which never came. She's comment on the "unforgettable" steak was that its forgettable. I enjoyed my Madagascar peppercorn steak however the service is terrible so we will not be coming back. read more

We went here for my parent's 50th anniversary meal last month. When we got to the table, there was a beautiful bouquet of flowers in the middle of the table. My parents ordered the ribs and both were impressed with the quality. Our server was very attentive and checked on us often. After the meal our server gave my parents a complimentary dessert, which was large enough to share with the whole table. She also said that the bouquet was for my parents to take home. We were all impressed with the service and the food, and the extras were greatly appreciated. Thank you to the Moxies' staff who made the meal a very special one. read more

Another Moxie's review. This one was a little better than last time. I met up with a gf of mine, and we chose this location as we live on opposite sides of the city. I have never gone to this location before, but it was a good choice. We got there at lunch time on a Friday, but we were seated right away. Had a very pleasent server, I ordered the tandori salmon salad without naan bread and my friend had the curry rice bowl. Both of our meals were delicious, and we over all had a good time. If you are in that area, and want a good meal, it's worth checking out for sure. read more

By all means, if you have a craving for salt...come to this Moxie's! I smoke, yes tsk tsk, hence I use more salt than most so I was shocked they could so severely over use the seasoning on EVERY part of my dish. The waitress showed little concern at my peril as she took more than half a meal away (I was starved and tried my best). No I'm sorry, no discount, no thanks for coming! I'm not one to hunt a discount, and on the rare occasion I receive one I make sure the total difference goes into the tip so it not a scam, but really, they couldn't be bothered to offer anything? (My bill was close to $40) Lesson learned...I should of read the reviews! With all that said, I have had amazing food AND service at both moxies in shawnessy and across from willow park...please drive a few extra minutes and go there instead. read more

So far, service in the lounge is horrid.....and to continue with this thought, took 15 minutes to get a menu. 20 for a drink. Food was ~ my god, I can't even smash it that badly because it was only nachos. How do you screw up nachos? If you would like to know, go to Moxies. Had 3 Caesars, asked for extra spicy. Even said "look, I mean really spicy, I'm not being a jerk, but every time I order spicy in this province, I get nada". Server giggles and laughs and says that I'll get spicy. Did not whatsoever. On round 1 or 2. We were over a barrel that day and had to stop - it was that or starve because the equal food casualty "Shark Club" is the only other resto there. After a rough start the manager turned our whole experience around. Upon arrival their was no hostess at the front to seat my spouse and I in the main restaurant, we waited a few minutes and no one came, so decided to go to the bar. We took our seats and a hostess then came over to explain our server would be over soon and got us started with water and a chance to look at the menu more. We waited, the bar area was not that busy, another couple came in and sat at a table beside us, and another couple farther away. The server went to another table to get their bill started and proceeded to the 1st couple after us that came in, to the 2nd couple and back to the table with their bill. The server then took the 1st couples order and went back to the bar and talked with a customer that was continuously buying drinks. 4 times, we were walked past with no further service, we tried multiple times to get their attention and were completely ignored. The 1st couples food came out and they pointed out that we had still not been served, a half hour later... luckily this was the manger. He was very very apologetic, started by comping drinks for us, and then our entire meal. He took care of us for the rest of our meal. The food was some of the best I had ever received from a Moxies before. Although the service from individuals was not 100%, I still think this location is 1. in a great spot 2. they really do try to make your experience a good one and 3. the food was good. read more

We were desperate for food after our flight got in late. Not many options in the area. Walked to this place. Bartender was nice and attentive. However... This was some of the worst food I've EVER tasted. We had lettuce wraps to start, which tasted like fish (unintentionally) and had rotten cilantro on top. I had a lettuce wrapped burger and side salad. The burger has zero flavor and my salad was obviously premade and sat in a cooler for a long time, as the lettuce was completely wilted and had lost its shape. Did they even look at this before serving it? It was inedible. I can't believe this meal cost 75 dollars (we each had a beer). I wouldn't recommend this place at all, even if you're desperate. We recently hosted an Executive Board Meeting at the Sandman Hotel and Moxie's did the catering for the meeting. The food was really delicious, the staff was super friendly (especially our server Chelsea) and it was very reasonably priced. We will be back soon! read more

Its new, modern and its really good food. Not many people know about it, and getting in during suppertime is usually right on in. Last time I went during the supper rush the parking lot wasn't even full! We were able to mix and match what we wanted, and even got apps for full meals at apps prices. My wife and I are visiting Calgary from Las Vegas, NV for five nights staying at the Sandman Hotel & Suites. I chose this location because my wife has Celiacs and attached to the Hotel is a wonderful restaurant called Moxie's with a lot of gluten free options. This was our third evening visiting Moxie's and I have to say the food & alcohol have been great but the service is even better. Andrew, Matt, Marissa & Maya have been outstanding. We look forward to spending our remaining two nights with them. Thank you all very much for making our stay wonderful. Also they were out of chicken wings I suggest if you're going to compete in the food industry with all the choices that consumers have make, at least have the basics, good service and the basic foods. We went for lunch on a Monday afternoon. Were hoping to sit on the patio and enjoy the sun, but this location's patio is pathetically small, no decor/plants and immediately adjacent to parking lot. We opted for the lounge instead. Service was reasonably quick and friendly - although there were only a total of 3 tables with one server & one bartender working - kinda hard to mess that up. My only complaints were that we had to ask for cutlery, and she didn't come back to see how the food was or check up on us until we were done eating. I ordered the chicken quesadilla with a Caesar salad, which had far too much dressing. The quesadilla was tasty, but lacked any veggies (I'm glad I'm opted for the salad) and was a little too crispy. Salsa was interesting - probably in-house made based on the unrecognizable/unique tasting spices, so that added a nice touch. My friend had the classic burger with added bacon and raved about it. I had a bite, and I must say it as pretty good! Definitely had a good size patty and a nice sauce. Fries were a little soft and nothing special. Overall, a pleasant experience but we won't rush back anytime soon. I think we may try Shark Club next door - looks like they have a nice rooftop patio. Hmmm.... read more

I am a faithful Moxie's fan. I love the food and usually the atmosphere. Last Friday my sister took me out for dinner and our experience was HORRIBLE. We stood at the front of the restaurant for over 5 minutes waiting for someone to seat us. Once we were finally seated we had several servers pass by us without even acknowledging us. We waited about 10 minutes to even get our drink orders in. I only ordered water but my sister ordered an actual drink. It wasn't even busy as we were there fairly late in the evening (approx. 8:30pm). We both finished our drinks... and waited... and waited... and waited. While we waited we not only had several servers pass us by, but one of the waitresses actually looked straight at our empty glasses sitting on the edge of the table and just kept walking. It took about another 15 minutes to get more drinks and put our food order in. The food finally arrived. It was a decent meal, like I said I've never had an issue with the food. However this was possibly the worst experience I've ever had with service, EVER! While I will most likely continue going to Moxies, I may never return to this location.
