Moxies on Yates is my family's go-to spot for dinner. We arrived early, around 5 PM, to enjoy a meal before catching our movie at the Odeon, just two blocks away. I love several items on their menu, including the chicken rigatoni, dry ribs, and tuna tacos. Tonight, I tried the chicken lettuce wraps, and they were fantastic. The interior is spacious, beautifully designed, and inviting, and the service is always excellent. Moxies also offers great cocktails and an awesome happy hour menu, making it the perfect place for both a casual dinner or a night out with great drinks. I absolutely love this spot! read more

I had the alfredo pasta with chicken, even though the pasta itself is really good the chicken is just flavorless and looks like it was just plain white chicken before it was thrown into the sauce. The rigatoni however had one of the most amazing pasta sauces I ever tasted. The white chocolate brownie was so good and served warm with ice cream. read more

Came with a group of friends. Ordered the ribeye steak, medium rare. That thing came out well done. Called the waitstaff over and was told that at Moxies that's how they do "medium rare". No apology, no remake, no taking anything off the bill... no surprise since they seem to have no idea how a steak should be cooked. The meat had no juice and was so tough it took a lot of wine to help with the swallowing. Perhaps they're taught to overcook everything to push drink sales. Huge disappointment. read more

This was one of the best meals ever!!! The Cashew Chicken Lettuce Wraps are bursting with flavor and very filling. Great to share. The Cobb Salads were the best we've ever had. The Key Lime Pie was as good as any in Key West. Not pictured, the steak and mashed potatoes. I went with a group of 7 during the a long weekend on Sunday and it was definitely super busy. Ordered a pineapple lemon club soda cause I'm not really the alcohol drinking type and also ordered the New York steak. The service was pretty good, the waitresses were all young so they had a lot of energy and was very attentive. But because it was super busy, the kitchen was backed up and it took around 1 hour and a half for our main course to arrive. The waitress gave us complimentary garlic bread during our wait and that was actually really really good. Or maybe I was just too hungry. I would definitely recommend ordering the the baked potato with cream cheese if you order a steak or just order it by itself cause that was really yummy! Overall not bad and I would go again someday. I went a few weeks back and had an aggressively mediocre experience. The service was amazing, but the food was just meh. We got steak frites and the steak was cold and tough. A great location in downtown Victoria. A nice snack that I would highly recommend would be the chips and salsa. They also have a Caesar salad and a steak frites as a good lunch/dinner option. My boyfriend and I visited Moxie's in Victoria and had the best experience! First of all, this particular Moxie's feels like a home away from home. We felt welcomed as soon as we entered, but most of all we had the most delightful bartender. Maddy went out of her way all evening, helping us choose and wine and offering a sample of a featured rose, that we really liked. Most of all, Maddy was super kind, helpful and relaxing to be around. Me and my girl made a great decision when we together decided to visit Moxies for our one year anniversary. The grill house itself has a big interior with a dim and chill atmosphere. The presentation as a whole was fantastic. On top of that we had great service from the different servers that were very kind and welcoming. As soon as the server lead us to our table I noticed that they had a good mix of classic rock as their soundtrack, which usually is a sign that you're in a good place. When it comes to the food, we had some amazingly presented bruccheta as our appetizer which were very tasty. For dinner both of us chose a sirloin steak, medium well for her and a medium rare for me. I've come to Moxie's for several different occasions over the last 7 years, and I have never once had a bad experience. On many occasions, I visited with a group of friends and we were seated at a table either on the patio or inside. On a few other special occasions, we dined upstairs in their private dining area which overlooks the rest of the restaurant below. I've also been here when a restaurant I used to work at rented the entire place out for a staff party. All of these experiences have been great. Over the years, I've tried many different things at Moxie's. A few of my faves below: + Korean Fried Cauliflower + Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings + Double Cheese Nachos (w/ guac of course) + Street Tacos + Buffalo Chicken Tenders + Salmon & Avocado Cobb Salad + Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich As for drinks, I've tried a couple of their cocktails in the past, but I can't seem to remember the names of them. I usually stick to their sangria (they do them by the pitcher!) and caesars. Oh, they also do 1/2 price tequila shots on Fridays. I knew whenever I came here on Friday nights, that rounds of tequila were bound to happen. During my last visit, this was no exception. I've always been a fan of Moxie's, particularly this location. All the servers and bartenders are wonderful and efficient. The decor at this location is beautiful! They have a little fountain at the front that you have to walk around to get to the main room. My kids were in the mood for burgers, so we were heading to Bin 4. It was a 45 minute wait and there was nowhere to wait that long with 4 hungry children. We decided to take a chance and head across the street to Moxie's. We were quickly seated and I was very pleased to discover that they had a kids menu with burgers on it. Three of my children were pleased by this and the 4th was even more so, because she had wanted a pizza from the start and now was able to get one. They brought activity sheets and crayons to keep the children entertained. We ordered and they gave us the option of the children's meals being delivered first. They alsole offer bottomless drinks for the children. This just kept getting better. At the end of the meal the children were brought ice cream volcanoes, with dry ice giving a very dramatic effect to their dessert. My wife and I had burgers and they did a great job on them. Being able to have the children entertained, fed and well hydrated made it a very enjoyable meal. At the end the host came around and gave each of the children a Moxie's credit card pre-loaded with $5, so that they can treat us next time we go there. I will definitely be back! I'm embarrassed it's taken me so long to write this review, but it's been a busy few months since we were here. If you need to host an event in Victoria, BOOK HERE!! It's another restaurant that was bought by Moxie's, so the design inside is a little different, and the private room is upstairs overlooking the rest of the restaurant. Perfect for what I needed! Whenever I travel to meet cousins for the genealogy I'm writing, I try to find a restaurant that will please a multitude of palates, where folks can have a cocktail if they want, and cousins who either have never met or haven't seen each other for months/years can chat and connect or reconnect. Then I can proceed with telling them about the book, and we can try to get all the family photographs scanned that they've brought with them. This is over a decade of work, and it can sometimes be a challenge to find a room I don't have to pay for, with decent finger food, enough room for oodles of cousins, and space to roll out a long family tree on a table, and open up several scrapbooks of photos and family data. I had initially booked with another cafe in town (which used to be a Macaroni Grill near the mall), but when I went to check with them, mere weeks before the event, I discovered to my horror that they had closed up shop. Had ANYONE bothered to call those of us with events scheduled? Nope. I was screwed. I called the owner of our B & B, since they had been SO FABULOUS even before we arrived. They know Victoria better than anyone, and I knew if anyone could recommend a space in Victoria, THEY could. Edward (Binner's B & B) gave me the names of several places in town, and Moxie's was one of them. Thank GOODNESS! You MUST stay at Binner's. But that's another story. The fellow I spoke to at Moxie's completely reassured me, let me know everything was fine, and put my mind at ease. When I called him again just before we left Edmonton on our way, still a little nervous, I happened to get him on the phone again, and he reassured me again, let me know we were still on the calendar, and that all was well. When we got there (yes, I travel with suitcases full of stuff and they didn't laugh or freak out), they helped me get them upstairs to the private room, and had tables set up for the guests and for the various items. The family tree was set out on a table on the balcony overlooking the rest of the restaurant, the scrapbooks on one of the tables, and the guests began filing in not long after. Our waitress was spectacular and friendly, filling everyone's orders quickly and efficiently (and there were at least 20 of us there), and when she found out we had a birthday and an anniversary among us that day, brought us 2 free desserts! I barely got to eat while I was there-- I was so busy, but everyone else assured me their food was very good, hot, and that they really enjoyed themselves. We had such an amazing time. This was one of the largest gatherings I've hosted, and it could have been a complete disaster thanks to the other place that left us in the lurch. Thanks Moxies! read more

Really enjoyed my experience here at Moxies, came to celebrate me and my babes 1 year anniversary,the lighting was dim, the servers were dressed up and there were candles on each table, we had the bruschetta bread to start and it was absolutely to die for, we both agreed it was the best bruschetta we've had! The bread melted in your mouth and the cheese on top was just perfection, we then ordered 2 steaks, mine was medium well and babes was medium rare and they were both so tasty and flavourful. Was deeply disappointed. First of all, the staff seemed quite unprepared to deal with the large groups of people that were there today. While I understand that it takes time to process tables of 10+, there could have been FAR more communication with the server and the guests. Drinks could have been offered in the mean time, and not just once when we sat down. Second, I was very surprised that there wasn't a SINGLE thing on the entire menu that didn't involve animal byproducts. I am lactose intolerant (no cheese) and asked for vegetarian options -- there was NOTHING! After some negotiation with our server, I asked if the chef could just make me some kind of pasta dish (MY idea -- the server was at a loss), which they eventually did. Unfortunately, they were probably so discombobulated from the fact that I did not want any meat, they forgot to add any flavour too. There was no spice, no garlic, and sour as hell because nothing was done to counteract the acidity of the tomatoes... It was really just *blah*! And by the time the server came by to offer me fresh pepper, I was already halfway through my meal, and added my own pepper from the one on our table. I expressed my disappointment to both the server and the manager. Truly, far from being a good, let alone a memorable meal. At the very end, I was presented with a bill for $18 for a "chicken rigatoni." Good grief! This was just the icing on the cake. Not only did I have a very disappointing meal, but was being overcharged for the privilege! $18 may be the price for chicken rigatoni, but remember -- there was NO chicken in my meal. Ergo, someone still owes me the price of some chicken. Plus, that's a lot of nerve to ask $18 for a little bit of pasta and some vegetables, when a burger costs only $14. While I don't ever expect a free meal, I WOULD hope that the staff would take into account their disappointing performance and sub-par meal, and give some kind of discount. It was not my decision to go here for lunch -- I was with a larger group. But if I ever have the choice, I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

A good ol' standby in the casual "fine dining" franchise category . . . . Stopped in after a day in Vancouver with my daughter, a quiet Monday night. Service attentive. She ordered the mushroom - Madeira sauce rigatoni and she rates it above average, the second time enjoyed (recently enjoyed in Edmonton Moxie's). I had the smoked applewood cheese, chicken and sun-dried tomato pizza, which too was above average in quality and taste, and thanks to the wood flame pizza oven and an attentive chef I could see from my table. Rigatoni = $17.99, and pizza = $14.99. Went to a bachelorette dinner here in September and noted they handle group dinners well. Watch out for the chicken teriyaki bowl though, the one I had was too hot and spicy, and not really teriyaki. To note, locally owned and sourced restaurants nearby with same or better pricing. I came here with a large group for a surprise birthday party for a friend. The staff was very accomodating, they helped us surprise my friend and hid his wife, and also brought out the birthday cake for us, and took many pictures even from the balcony above for us all. The appy's were pretty good, nothing blew me away, I had the wings and calamari. For dinner I had steak with mashed potatoes and mushrooms. My steak was cooked just how I liked it, but a friends was much over cooked and the waitress removed it from the bill and offered another for free. Its a good busy place with a bar area and nice dinner setting. I would recommend this for pre-drinks and dinner before a night out, or a special occasion. read more

For the price, I think I could get better value elsewhere, but I haven't got any complaints about the food or the staff. I've been several times and had good food each time. The only hiccup I've encountered was small pieces of the UPC sticker left on a Mango in my Mango Chipotle Chicken. I didn't bother to say anything, since things like that just don't worry me too much. It did show a bit of a lack of attention to detail, but it wasn't as concerning as getting a hair or worse. I'm sure I'll go again, but it's not top-of-mind for places to go when I'm looking to spend $80-$100 on a meal, which is what I paid last time for 2 people w/ 1 drink each. read more

Came here with a gift card about 3 months ago for an impromptu date night. The decor is a little bit different from other Moxie's I have been before, but was excited to enjoy a night of drinks and bites. The server was friendly (unfortunately, forgot her name) but a lot of times, we had to look for her to take our orders. Ordered the Blue Hawaiian (I think that's the name) cocktail and was excited but unfortunately, the drink was basically sugar water. It was way too sweet and felt it was only a tiny bit of alcohol. The calamari was only okay average. We also ordered the ribs and it was only okay as well. The meal turned out to be around $50 something dollars and we had a gift card which was about $25 bill. I didn't finish my drink because i just didn't like it at all, the food was mediocre, and the service was okay. Thank goodness we had the gift card, cause the meal was definitely not worth $50! Recently went for lunch after a long hiatus. Had the calamari, which was tasty and cooked just right. Nice light batter. Serving size was a little on the small side. Came with two dips that were both excellent-- red pepper aioli and red chilli jelly. Decent selection of beers on tap as well as many mixed drinks. Had the peach wheat ale on tap, which was outstanding. Service was friendly and efficient. The owner is hands on, on site helping wait and bar staff serving orders and visiting with customers making sure everyone is happy. He obviously takes pride in the operation and is very cordial and accommodating --very refreshing to see. The building, room, furnishings and ambiance are excellent, though can be a little noisy given the large size of the room and very high ceiling. Keep up the good work Lindsey and Moxies. My husband and I had the best meal and service of our lives tonight. I had the Roasted free-range chicken topped with goat cheese (brilliant), new potatoes, green beans and cherry tomatoes. My husband ordered the Chicken Carbonara, his all time favourite dish, which used to be on the menu years ago and subsequently removed. Anyway, the waiter and chef were all too happy to accommodate his special request. It tasted amazing! For desert, we shared the white chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Delicious! Now as far as the service, it was excellent. We were treated like royalty and enjoyed every minute of it. The Moxies on Yates is our favourite restaurant in Victoria and our go-to place for birthdays and special occasions. This is our "go to" spot. Great food, great service, great hospitality. My husband and I have been coming here for years. Whether it's the two of us or, like last night, 18 people (at the last minute), we always feel well taken care of. The sushi cones and salmon Cobb salads are current faves particularly with a Stiegel Radler alongside. My hubby's favourite is the Beef Vindaloo. I've been torn about writing a review about this place. My family and I have frequented this restaurant many times. Often its been with a big group as we've celebrated birthdays and and so on. We done this because of it's close proximity and we keep thinking it's not that bad. But sadly the service is alright as they do try but they seem to take orders in sections at the same table. Lol I find the food ok but not fantastic. The desserts seem consist of the same rich overly sweet brownie type thing. Two days ago we went for my daughters birthday again and the drinks were rather watery considering I had asked for a double. There was suppose to be half a lobster tail, I turned the tail over and it was empty! I realized when they replaced it that indeed there had been a tail inside that first shell. The reason I didn't notice it was because it had rolled in to the rest of the dish and appeared like a smaller shrimp that was also in my dish that I had ordered. It must have been a rather shrimpy size lobster. That was 25 dollars. My husband I decided that we will in fact not be returning. It occurred to us that every time we have been there something or other has gone wrong with our ordered. It's been cold or burnt or something else. They are always apologetic and fix it but I'm sorry, for the prices that they charge "sorry" just isn't enough! read more
