Beer and cocktails made for a great place to meet and eat. Easy to get to by water taxi if you do not want to drive it. But we took Galloping Goose trail by bike to the patio day. Pros- food was great, atmosphere inside is understated elegance chic, pricing average but not excellent for a happy hour. Flatbread with spread cheapest at $7 most items 13-15 for happy hour bites. Cons- paying for parking that also only allows you to pay for one hour at a time. Pricing not great for value. Off the beaten path If you are a visitor. Not within walking distance. Overall a decent place if in the area but nothing I would go out of my way for a second time. The decor is great, the food tasted good. One side view is of the water way, the other side overlooks a huge scrap metal junk yard. read more

Great food, underwhelming service pacing Glo has the foundation of a top-tier restaurant: beautiful waterfront location, lively atmosphere, and a kitchen that clearly knows flavour. But service rhythm and bar execution held the experience back. Food The potato bacon mash was outstanding--rich, creamy, and perfectly seasoned. The beef tenderloin had great flavour and was cooked well inside, but the grill marks were burnt, not seared. That bitter char detracted from what should've been a highlight dish. Drinks I ordered an Amaretto Sour, which came out far too tart--heavy on lemon, with no balance. I had to adjust it myself with a shot of simple syrup the server brought over. I added half and salvaged it, but it shouldn't have needed fixing. The first round took 10 minutes, and I only received two drinks the entire night--despite being seated for a full meal. While the server did offer a third near the end, it came after we were clearly finished, which felt like a late attempt to catch up rather than consistent attentiveness. Service Polite but passive. Staff were visible at the POS chatting casually while drinks and check-ins lagged. Our table was low-maintenance, but that shouldn't equal neglect. The overall feel was reactive, not proactive--like the focus was more internal than guest-facing. Final Verdict Glo delivers where it counts in the kitchen. The food is strong, and the location is hard to beat. But for the price point and setting, service needs tightening--from grill technique to bar pacing to floor awareness. This was to be my big birthday dinner, but I wouldn't go back. I had only been here once before and it was many years ago. I decided to book the three of us in for my big day's dinner. We were seated and waited what seemed like a long time for our drinks - and while waiting the hostess called me from the front asking if I was still bringing my party to the restaurant, to which I responded 'I'm sitting behind you waiting for my wine!' I had mentioned it was my birthday when I reserved, but only the hostess said anything. When the wine finally arrived, the server brought the wrong bottle. I think she would benefit from having some training because she had no idea how to pour a taste for one of us or how to replenish our glasses throughout the meal. Our meals were mediocre - although they were priced high octane. The fish and chips was good, but my beet and avocado salad was extremely salty. The beets were over pickled. Our other companion said she wouldn't order her carbonara again. We shared 2 desserts- the apple brûlée was great. The 'birthday' dessert was $6 for a candle and spice cake. We laughed thinking that was a smart marketing move to have a 'birthday dessert' so no one ever has to be comped for their birthday. Truthfully, service was spotty - we waited a long time for our drinks (25 minutes) and then our meals came super quickly. Our desserts arrived slower than molasses. We were told the kitchen was slowed up at that point. The restaurant was very loud - I had so much difficulty concentrating on the conversation. I felt sorry my friend got stuck with the bill. We went to Glo for a group birthday dinner. Everything was great except when it came to dessert; several of us ordered the dessert special, which was supposed to be a tiramisu parfait. It was pretty sad and there was absolutely no resemblance to any tiramisu I've ever had, and for $12. I also found it interesting that they have a "birthday dessert" listed on the menu, instead of just comping it, as some other places do. We were looking forward to dinner here and unfortunately it was average at best. The location is right next to a Automobile junkyard which was the first distraction but inside the ambiance is nice. The food was about a C and the drinks were about a D. Nothing special and dissapointing quite frankly that a nice looking restaurant with a nice bar had just ok food and drink. The service was bad. The waitress could care less on being responsive to simple communication. She would take and bring 1 drink or one plate at a time. Very inefficient. At one point she took our order and took only 1 menu off the table. Then as the used drinks and dishes started gathering in our party of 5 she would take one plate away, or grab 1 glass when right next to it were 3 more. It didn't make sense and looked like it was more of a bother for her. Then when the bill came she hovered over me to see what I tipped I presume and since all tipping is starting at 18% these days, I simply used the other button to give her 15% which I though was generous. Apparently she didn't as she just took the card machine with no comment. Sucked paying a couple hundred dollars for a mediocre meal unfortunately. read more

Absolutely astronomical wait time! 1 Hour!!!!! (If I could give 0 stars, I would.) I politely asked about the wait time and the hostess kept stalling and telling us a few more minutes. We left as we couldn't get a table at all. There was an empty table (not reserved by anyone else) that they said we could take but they would have to "prepare it" but we didnt see anyone do it for 20 minutes. This is totally inexcusable as they also were not reachable by phone, we could not even schedule a reservation, hell, we even tried e-mailing them. And got an auto-response saying that we had to wait up to 24 hours. This was incredibly disappointing as the food looked good in photos. The place was pretty nice with clean bathrooms. read more

I took my parents here for brunch on a bust Saturday morning. It's in a bit of a weird location if you are driving and parking isn't exactly easy. However, if you are walking or cycling or kayaking or water taxiing there, you are in business. Views of the water are great, and the outdoor patio looked like a great set up as well. We walked in off the street with no reservation at 3:30pm. At the desk were three what we assumed was the hostess and two wait stuff, as we approached we received dirty looks from all three. We asked about a table inside or on the patio . The "hostess" glanced at her device or book and declared there was an hour and a half wait followed by a look of disdain toward us. Both the dining room and patio were half empty. We thanked her and her coworkers politely at left. Very unprofessional of the staff to treat potential customers in such a manner. That we were beneath those employees. Hopefully the owner/manager does not have a policy quietly refusing service based on appearance or pre-conceived notions of guests. read more

Main problem is that it's paid parking and not in a convenient location. Also, we went for my birthday and told the waiter and host, but they didn't acknowledge it. But overall service was great. I had the Gold Fang cocktail, which was marvelous. It's a whiskey cocktail that had a great combination of flavors. For my meal I had the prawns and scallops pesto tagliatelle. We had the most delightful lunch with the best service. It was simply lovely!! We started with the trio of dips - olive, garlic and sun dried tomato tapenade. It came with some crusty pizza dough bread sticks. Tasty! Coupled with a bottle of Rodney Strong Cabernet it was perfect. Next came the main dishes. Mum had the calamari - lightly breaded, not too chewy and came with a side of tart garlic aioli. Hubby and Sis both got the Rueben. Hubby really liked his, but Sis thought hers was a bit greasy. Yummy, but greasy. I had the Short Rib Dip and garlic fries. The short ribs were so tender and the red wine dip complimented it perfectly. The chef made garlic fries specially for me and they were nice. They also brought me a spicy aioli to dip them in. Mmmm. The view is lovely too, right on the water. There's a patio for those warm summer days. TIP: Parking is tough on the street. Parking in the dollar lot just a short walk away. read more

My friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant because it was close to our Airbnb. We went there during the evening for dinner and I had a steak sandwich with a sangria marinated pear and goat cheese salad. I'm giving this restaurant five stars because not only with the food excellent the ambience was really classy. Both my friend and I could not stop commenting on how much we liked the patio as well as the inside. Unfortunately they had closed the patio by the time we got there but seeing it from the outside with all of its Harvest themed decor, heaters, couches, tea lights and greenery overlooking the water it felt much more like we were going to a resort restaurant vs being right in the city! Glo is one of those rare restaurant-musts which never ceases to let us down: The food is consistently superb (order anything on the menu, and they'll jazz it up with enough flavour and pizzazz to make even the appies pack enough of a punch to kick your craving), the drinks are always fantastic (hats off to Glo's skilled bartenders!), and the staff are beyond wonderful in their treatment of patrons and the overall service they deliver. This special spot has quickly become our good-ol'-reliable because no matter which server we get, dish we pick, or day of the week we find ourselves craving great food and a gregarious atmosphere, we always leave our latest Glo-experience feeling satisfied, warm, and counting-down the days until we can go back for another meal without it being weird. But what really drove me to write this review today is the fact that even during these challenging times, Glo has made every effort to continue delivering high-quality food and high-quality experiences without sacrificing the diversity of their menu offerings or upping prices (they've even introduced exclusively gluten-free and vegetarian menus during the pandemic). In the wake of COVID-19, many other business have (understandably) resolved to cut costs where possible, and while we try to support local wherever and whenever we can, I must be honest when I say that it's been quite disappointing to see large price hikes in menus at other once beloved restaurants even in spite of significant sacrifices made to the quality of food and service. Starters were great. Setting good but music more like a bar than restaurant. When it came to main course the evening fell apart. We were delivered part of our main course orders, however the steak was not done medium rare as ordered, we were given no cutlery to eat it with and the side ordered was not delivered - it then took us almost 10 minutes in order for any server to come and speak to us despite catching the eye of two as they passed and trying to catch others including saying excuse me to them. When eventually we did get attended to, it took 15 minutes before we got new main courses brought to us. They offered complimentary dessert but by the end we did not want any. When the bill came they took off our two starters, which was a good gesture, however our last night in Victoria was ruined - what should have been a nice meal was a frustrating disappointment. In a quieter perhaps the experience would have been better and they would have been able to cope but I would not return following our experience or recommend to anyone else. read more

Ordered take-out from Dine Around Victoria menu. Chose the avocado beet salad, Turkish red lentil cumin soup, lamb shank, duck confit, expresso hazelnut cheese cake and carmel chocolate torte. Glo is one of my favorite spots for a patio dinner when I'm in Victoria. Their patio has great ambience, with water views, heaters, string lights and blankets in case you get cold. I like to order the blackened cod which comes on a warm bacon and corn potato salad. The fish has a nice cajun flavour, slightly spicy. Add a glass of sangria, and you're looking at a solid Friday night. I tried a bit of my fiancé's beef dip which was delicious if you are looking for something heartier. My only issue at Glo is that I find the service to be lacking. The servers seemed to forget about us for long chunks of time, whether we wanted to order food or get a refill on our pitcher of sangria. Refills are an easy up-sell! I recommend they implement the Cactus or Earls standard, which is to always offer a refill when a guest's drink falls below 1/3 full. Overall, a great patio! We were first introduced to Glo shortly after moving to the Island about 6 years ago. It has since been one of our main destinations for a relaxing afternoon or when guests come to town. What a great setting, beside the Selkirk Waterway, with an awesome patio, and a delicious, quality menu that we keep coming back for! We are even more impressed after a recent experience that was slightly disappointing. What a great example of high class customer care - our concerns were acknowledged, corrective action they were taking was clearly explained, and a nice invitation to return was extended. Glo Pub is definitely a top recommendation from me! They have a massive wrap-a-round patio with heaters, comfy sun-deck style couches, and of course regular seating as well! Their happy hour menu is definitely a big motivator - I ordered the Crispy Fish Sliders and the 12 Hour Brisket Tacos. The Sliders were unbelievable!! I would order these over and over again despite whether or not they are on for happy hour prices! The fish is served hot and crispy, not greasy like fish and chips can otherwise be, and the coleslaw and salsa are very refreshing. The 12 hour beef brisket tacos were good, but I definitely prefer wheat over corn tortillas so I probably wouldn't order these a second time. Instead I would just get two orders of the Crispy Fish Sliders... hehe! Also, let's not forget about their Classic Caesars! AMAZING! One of the best patios in Victoria for sure. Only downfall is the service. Nice hosts and servers, but definitely slower and not as attentive as other restaurant establishments. read more
