I will 10/10 come back and visit this location when I move to Columbia in the next two weeks. The check in process was phenomenal and short, the downstairs bar was delectable (shout out to Lavender for being the greatest of all time!), I met countless new friends and contacts down there (three people I will now be working with at a local hospital system!), the rooftop bar was incredible (the view is unparalleled), and there's even a cute taco spot right there. Came to the Moxy in Columbia for the weekend. Whenever I stay in a hotel it's usually a Moxy. We love the modern and fun decor and there's also so much to do while there. The Columbia location is on the corner of Main St and Gervias St. Check-in is on Main and parking for the hotel is Valet or street parking only. We decided on-street parking and followed the meter rules which was pretty simple. When you walk in the bar is the first thing you see and is also the check-in. The bartender is also your guest service attendant so that was pretty interesting. I would recommend a dedicated concierge just for checking in because it would help people get into their rooms more quickly when the bar is busy. The bartender serving us was pleasant, and professional, and checked us in smoothly. Our room was on the 8th floor and had a stunning view of the Capital building. Our room had everything we needed. I loved the mini fridge and the shower pressure was amazing. The bed was comfortable and cozy so we slept like babies. The hotel emphasizes the nightlife and the lobby was full pretty the entire night. The bartenders made us a Hennesy sidecar which was the best drink of the night. The taco truck next to the bar has amazing food. The staff was friendly recommending great options and service was fast. We also ate there for breakfast and it was delicious. The rooftop was nice but due to the cold, we couldn't enjoy it as much. The rooftop has an inside area but it was pretty busy. I love all the games throughout the hotel like tick tack toe, Jenga, and a skeeball table. This Moxy has adult fun on lock. I only wish the space was bigger. In conclusion, the hotel was a hit, and with a few tweaks, it will be the best hotel in the city! read more

The Moxy did not disappoint! This visit was everything and more!! From the time we arrived to check out everything was spectacular! The hotel offers a fun, inviting, intimate yet fun atmosphere! The rooms are minimalist yet posh! We reserved a windowless room and it was perfect! No noise issues here! Slept like a baby! The rooftop bar is another layer of added bliss! I travel a LOT for work, almost weekly- meaning I'm super harsh on hotels because I know what to look for when it comes to obvious red flags. I'm super picky about cleanliness because when you're away from home as much as me, you want it to feel as clean as your own place. This is by far the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in. Every inch of my room was spotless. The bar downstairs was slammed while throwing a watch party and the bartender impressively kept up and didn't skip a beat. He was incredibly respectful and kept his cool despite it being super busy. Location is PRIME for anything downtown, and I had a great view of the capitol. The reviews that mention room size being an issue should research the brand, most Moxy hotels are efficiency sized rooms and the main draw is modern design. The lobby area is somewhere you *want* to be. Parking was easy to find nearby in a cheap garage, but valet it also offered. Rooms were super affordable. Will be making this my go-to hotel on my Columbia work trips! read more

From the moment I checked in at the Moxy, to the moment I checked out, I was treated like royalty. I had to travel across the country for business and our executive booked the conference room at the Moxy, so it made sense we also started at the Moxy. The hotel decor is kitschy and industrial-chic, providing an eclectic and interesting atmosphere. I can see why the other commenter here had trouble when he took over the common area with a large group of teenagers... a party of adults did that during our daytime conference, and it did make the environment a bit... uncomfortable. Despite the hotel decor having a fun vibe, this is NOT a hotel geared towards children, which I find to be quite pleasant. Adults need more child-free spaces these days. As they stated, the rooms are cozy/small but comfortable. When I checked in, I mentioned reading reviews about traffic noise and that I'm a light sleeper. The staff went out of their way to place me in a 7th floor room, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they also placed a white noise machine in my room! This was the most poorly run hotel I have ever stayed at. It's fine if your goal is to make a party atmosphere but you still have to have a functional hotel. For example, while we were sleeping, we had two separate people get checked in with keys to our hotel room. Another example is it took an hour for valet to get my car causing me to miss my event, but yet I still got charged. Later in our trip we almost missed our flight due to the valet being late to their morning shift and the front desk not knowing where the keys or cars were stored. The rooms were small, the hot water didn't work, the mini fridge turned off when the lights were off, the bathroom fan didn't work, etc etc The cherry on top is we were charged an extra night after the joy of this stay. As a Lifetime Titanium Elite Member of Marriott I rented a room to provide a space for my 17-year-old daughter and just 10 of her friends to enjoy a fun, grown-up birthday gathering. We planned a variety of activities, including playing the lobby games, eating cake, and a trip to the rooftop to watch the sunset; followed by a visit to the taco stand in the hotel. I even invited a few adult friends to join for drinks at the bar after the teenagers departed. When the teenagers attempted to access the rooftop, they were turned away due to an age restriction that had not been communicated to us during our prior property tour. This lack of information was disappointing, but understandable. Undeterred the teens decided to walk down the street for Boba tea instead. However, the situation deteriorated after this. Upon returning to the common area, I encountered an unknown man in the private conference room, which I had been informed was off-limits unless reserved. However, Publix had placed my daughter's cake in this area. I promptly moved the cakes. Then I told the manager he wasn't with me and she said that the man was likely the owner! However, he had not said a word to me as I moved the cakes. He just stared straight ahead. This interaction set a troubling tone for the evening. Ten or 15 minutes later another woman joined him in the room, the manager followed. They seem to have a brief meeting, and then the woman came out and identified herself as one of the owners and she asked me was I the guest on the property? This is where the evening took an extreme wrong turn. I told her that I was the guest on property and then she then proceeded to tell me how her manager had been too nice by not forcing me to rent a private area for the "party" because I was "inconveniencing" her other guests who were bar attendees and they would eventually want to use the common area, where the 10 teenagers were located. She went on to say that her bartenders would also need to be tipped for the sodas that I had purchased from the dollar tree for the teenagers, insinuating that I was utilizing her staff and not paying them for their service. This was particularly frustrating, as I had brought my own meager refreshments for the teenagers to avoid any disruption at the bar. The owner made me feel as though my small group was an unwelcome nuisance, and that my business was not valued. So I packed the gifts and balloons and took them to my room. The owner's comments regarding tipping further reinforced my concerns about being treated differently, possibly due to assumptions she made about me which were grounded in bias beliefs about race or class. This is not how I expected to be treated as a paying customer. As a result of this experience, I also had to relocate my adult friends who wanted to enjoy the rooftop bar to another venue. We were not in anyone's way, but we were made to feel as if we were unwanted and intruding on the privacy of the "bar" patrons. Despite the fact that I was paying Customer with a hotel room, I was basically told that I couldn't host my 10 guests in the lobby, because I wasn't going to tip the bartenders! It is important to note that another customer brought in a full spread of food and cake and set up in the outer lobby without a reserved space and their numbers exceeded 10 people, yet they were not approached, they also were not people of color.My guests spent 1 hour playing cards, walked down Main Street, came back, opened gifts ate cake, and left-about 1.45 hrs total time. I truly hope that my experience was not reflective of the establishment's values. The hotel itself is lovely, the manager was lovely but the treatment I received from the owner was far from satisfactory. I believe that all guests deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, no matter what their age or color is. For the record I tip generously when I am provided with services. But, this is an occasion where I was not provided with service and yet I was accused of not tipping based on nothing more than my skin color and a biased assumption. read more

Subject: Disappointing Experience with Event Coordination at Moxy Marriott Columbia Downtown My son recently proposed to his girlfriend on the rooftop of the Moxy Marriott Columbia Downtown. In preparation for this special occasion, my son reached out to General Manager Rachel Mendez at least twice, and I personally contacted her once before the date of the event. I left Ms. Mendez a voicemail clearly explaining our intentions and asking about the cost to rent the rooftop space for one hour. We were informed by staff that the area was typically open to the public, but we wanted to ensure there would be no issues with reserving the space for a private moment. During the Augusta National Golf Tournament weekend, I called again and spoke with a female Bar Manager who explained they were extremely busy with guests. She reiterated that the rooftop was open to the public. I asked to speak with Ms. Mendez and was told she was working but unavailable. I informed the Bar Manager that I had already left Ms. Mendez a message and asked her to pass along the information. I also provided my name and phone number for a return call, but I never received one. The lack of communication was disappointing and unprofessional. We were never given the courtesy of a return call to discuss options or confirm a reservation. Since we were told the roof top was open to the public, we gathered there on Sunday May 4, 2025. We were unexpectedly met with opposition. An African American Female Bar Manager named Joe approached my son and stated that our gathering was considered an "event" that required prior booking. Joe claimed that Ms. Mendez--who had never responded to our attempts to contact her--had instructed her to shut down the proposal setup, asserting that we were preventing other guests from accessing the area. This was simply not true; we were respectful and did not block any guests from enjoying the space. We explained our previous efforts to contact Ms. Mendez and expressed our frustration with the situation. This unfortunate confrontation could have been avoided had Ms. Mendez responded to our inquiries and provided clear guidance about the venue's policies. Interestingly, within 30 minutes of Joe informing her that I planned to write a review, I finally received a call from Ms. Mendez offering an apology for the communication failure. While I appreciate the apology, it came too late. Although the proposal did take place, the process leading up to it was unnecessarily stressful and embarrassing. The lack of professionalism and responsiveness from the General Manager reflects poorly on the establishment. If this is the standard of service guests can expect, I strongly suggest that ownership reevaluate the leadership in place. A. read more
