I also had a few more quotes from other companies & they were so much more expensive, I decided to go with Ace. It took me a few months to be at a place where I was ready for the install. I called Cheryl and I had a install date about a week later. Unfortunately my install date (10/18/22) the temps were in the 20s. Cheryl was nice enough & professional enough to call and ask if the installers could start the job at 9:00 rather 7:00 AM when it would be a little more sunny & a little warmer. I had no issue with that & appreciated the call & request. At 9:00 AM the install team showed up & promptly got to work. They were diligent, professional, respectful, and got the job done. They also explained any issues with the 112 year old house and ways they could solve issues--and gave me choices. I appreciated that very much. All in all I am very happy with the work done, they also did a few things extra ... like filling in some gaps with aluminum flashing between bends in the roof line, so wind wouldn't blow rain between the gap & the gutter. They even added a few extra runs so every roof side had gutters--even though those extras were not in the quote. When it came time to pay (by check) the bill was exactly what they quoted. No surprises. No extras. Plus they carted away & cleaned up all the plastic gutters I took down. They even took the satellite dish I took off the roof, because I asked one of the workers in passing. The day before we moved in, I let them know that we had a high ceiling fan in our living room in case they needed to bring a ladder. I was told they didn't carry ladders on the truck but had extension rods that should work. (Comments about cleaning this ceiling fan will be explained later). I spent from 9:00 am to 6:30 pm with Brian. In my opinion, he was totally overwhelmed with this job. He thought it was in my best interest from a cost standpoint to not call in for assistance. Brian did an excellent job of cleaning the bathrooms and cleaning out the refrigerators we'd purchased. The company was aware of my requests for specific cleaning service well in advance. I wanted the couches and other upholstery steam-cleaned as well as the steps. The prior owners did have pets, so there was quite a bit of pet hair that needed to be vacuumed. Below are my lists of complaints and specific problems for future readers to consider. 1. Brian brought in a 2-3 step, step ladder. When the extension rod didn't reach the fan blades, he stacked 4 square loose stones onto the step ladder. While stepping off the stool, he missed the last step and knocked a spare stone onto my hardwood floor. This is in the open area of the floor and NOT underneath the couch. It dented 3 chips in the wood; which I've had to try and fix myself. There is NO way he didn't know what he did. I should have commented at the time but didn't. My fault. Who stacks stones to step on, to reach high above your head? 2. The steam-cleaning of the couch and chairs was below adequate on actual cleaning. Cleaning solution that smelled good was sprayed all over; which also went onto the hardwood floors. The equipment used seemed fine, but half-way through, the hand cleaner piece overheated. ?? The final touch-up/mopping of the hardwood floors was cloudy looked terrible. My husband and I wiped over it the next day and used a dry cloth which helped greatly! 3. Finally, I quietly questioned in my head, "why" he didn't dry vacuum in advance of steam cleaning the carpets. When I reached out to his wife, the other owner, she explained that they feel you get a much better clean, and it costs you less, if they simply do the steam cleaning alone. This is absolutely not true, despite pet hair - as I regular vacuumed the next day and removed 6 canisters of "stuff." While I appreciate that this company worked "very hard" to clean my house, I feel I greatly overpaid for the service I received; including the damage to the floor. I honestly feel I should have just cleaned the house myself as it would have saved an entire day, $$$ and a dented floor. I'm a good person and did provide Brian a tip for his service simply because I would have felt bad in not doing so.

As soon as we had the furniture moved after the heavy rains of July 16-17 got into our basement, I called AFC Cleaning & Restoration (Thursday) and told them I needed to have the water removed from my carpet. They had good online reviews. Robert arrived at 6:00 PM and started talking about tearing out the walls and carpet. I told him I wanted to try to save the carpet, as it wasn't that old and that the water came in through the window, not the foundation. He agreed to do that and then brought in fans and a dehumidifier. "Aren't you going to remove the water?" I asked. He said he was just going to set up fans and would be back. He assured me that if there was air movement, no mold would grow for three days. I texted him on Friday at 1:37 asking when he was going to work in our basement. I did not hear back from him until 10:36 that night when he said he could arrive between 10:30 and 11:30 on Saturday morning, would I be available. I did not see the text until 9:30 the next morning. "Yes, please" was my answer. A young couple showed up in a rusty pickup truck and said they were here to take out the pad. They had nothing to extract the water. They turned the fans to the inside of the room rather than to the edge where the carpet was the wettest. I texted Robert at 11:48 and told him the pad was out, but they put the wet carpet up against the baseboards and it was beginning to smell. I didn't hear a thing from him that day. I set the edge of the carpet up on plastic bins to get it off the baseboards and help get more air to it. On Sunday at 3:00 PM he texted me and asked me if he could swing by and take readings. Not expecting to hear from him on Sunday, I didn't see the message until 5:00 and responded "readings of what"? His response at 6:48 was "It's okay. Are you available tomorrow?" My response was "Yes, I need a time, though. I need someone to clean and sanitize the carpet and get it dried. It now smells. Readings of what?" I could have told him it was still very wet. His response "I'm not done drying it yet. It will start to smell better as it dries. I will also spray an anti Microbial spray." "So, you are never planning to vacuum the water out of the carpet - the one thing I asked for on Thursday?" His response "It gets cleaned after it's dry and the pad is replaced." Robert came by on Monday, but the carpet was still wet. He returned on Tuesday. The carpet was dry, five full days after the flood, and he sprayed microbial spray. When he was done, I mentioned that it still smelled and that I was unhappy he never extracted the water. "Oh, now that I'm done, you complain" was his reply. I was explaining that I had asked for the water to be extracted on Thursday and continuously through the process, but he just talked louder over me when I spoke. I told him that if he knew he couldn't extract the water, he should have told me at the beginning. He said it would have taken his crew longer to extract the water than using fans (no doubt). I reiterated that if they didn't have the crew available, they should have advised me in the first instance. He was frustrating me, so I told him to leave. I called the office the next morning and without identifying myself asked what they would do if someone had water in their finished basement that came up around their shoes. She proudly stated that they would first extract the water from the carpet. I said "Good, and how do you do that?" She explained that they have big machines that extract the water and remove it. I told her my name and that they did not do that in my basement. She agreed to send the manager to determine if the work done at my house was representative of their work product. A nice enough man named Joe came by and told me he didn't smell anything but carpet glue that had been made wet by the flood. On all other matters he agreed with me, but had no authority to do anything about it. He said he'd have the owner come by. The owner showed up and said all he smelled was acetate from the carpet. It was clear that his goal was to blame me. He said they didn't follow IICRC standards, because I asked them to try to save the carpet. I said, "So, you didn't follow your own standards, but you blame me?". He said "Yes". Yet, he didn't do what I asked him to do. I told him the young couple put the very wet carpet up against the baseboards and he said that wouldn't matter. I told him I asked for the water to be extracted several times, and he told me that using the fans was extracting the water. I disagreed. Not a single google search defines extracting water as using fans. Fans are the next step after extracting the water. I told him if he couldn't extract the water, they should have told me from the beginning, so I could have called someone else. He got up and left. What do they want for fans? $3000.

We had a pretty frustrating experience with AFC Cleaning and Restoration. We hired them to have our…read moreair ducts cleaned in our house. They charge per vent then spray an antimicrobial agent in the ducts after cleaning. The first tech that showed up to our house was 3 1/2 hours late and did not have all the tools to complete the job. Multiple vents were never even touched. He let us know that he was done with the job and my wife asked about the antimicrobial spray. He informed us that he did not have that machine on his truck and would have to come back at a later date. We also asked about the forgotten vents and he said that he would get those when he came back. I was told that I would not be charged for those vents. I had a conversation with the owner who was very apologetic and wanted to make it right. So I agreed to have them come back and finish the job. The second time they came out with two techs and were an hour late. They completed the rest of the job. Later I received an invoice for the entire job, including the vents we were not supposed to be charged for. Eventually I got the correct invoice and settled up with them. Overall just a headache of an experience.
