We've all been there: Too much hair, too little time. I was in town sporting way too much shag on this head and I needed to be semi-presentable for all the family and friends in town for a special gathering. Instead of taking care of this prior to traveling, I chose to do a quick search on Yelp and this was the closest and highest rated in the option in the area. I am supremely happy to report that it was the right choice. In short, Dan is the man. The barbershop is located in what almost looks like an apartment complex and may not be easy to find especially for newcomers. The place has a divey feel but a retro one as well. The moment I step into the shop, it feels like time froze and we're back in the 80s. There is parking in a small lot behind the building. There is no pretense here and if one comes during peak hours during the day, there might even be a wait. Aside from Mr. Dan, there are usually two other ladies working here. I believe one is a stylist and the other handles the other things like hair wash, shampoo'ing, etc. They're all Vietnamese and incredibly friendly. I was at ease the whole time and they even had some TV playing in the background. Mr. Dan took his time and made sure I had the hair style I wanted. He was precise with his cuts, making good conversation all along the way. Every patron that came in after me he greeted; many by first name. After finishing up with my haircut, I left him a decent tip on top of the regular price (which was $16) and he was very pleased. I know for a fact that I lived in the area I'd probably be a regular myself. I would always consider calling ahead of time but I probably wouldn't mind a small wait. I wouldn't be surprised if he greeted me on a first name basis by my next visit. read more

Still 5 years later my son still enjoys going here. I have since turned my husband on to Mr. Dan's. We have encountered a very diverse clientele during our visits, every visit. I typically sit in the shop while my son is getting his hair cut and chat with the female barber. She's polite and easily carries on a conversation. They still only take cash. Respectfully, the old lady that works here can not cut hair. My hair was left choppy, uneven, some strands were longer and shorter than others, and I had a bald spot. And the owner knows what she sucks ass at cutting hair but keeps her there cause she feels bad for her. Disrespectful, respectfully you should shut down. I just adore Mr. Dan's. The cuts are fantastic, the prices are more than fair, but what really keeps my family coming back is how kind everyone is. My two year old, like most toddlers, is not a fan of haircuts. When Len is cutting his hair there are no tears. She keeps the lollipops coming and he magically sits still. She remembers everyone's name and asks how our family is if it's been a while since she's seen us. My husband is former military and this is the only place he will come to get his hair cuts. Last I went back in 2016, they were terrible about cutting black hair. I hated coming here. Also, they didn't stop their customers from saying hateful things. They would play dumb a lot. I heard lots of rude gossip, and some directed at me. It's not a welcoming place to all people. I have used the services of this barber shop for the last 12 years and have always been very satisfied. The shop has very skillful barbers. Although I exclusively receive haircuts from the owner's wife (I believe), it appears that Mr. Dan has the biggest following, with customers frequently lined up at his workstation. Still, from my own experience I would recommend his wife. However, I can see that Mr. Dan's is a popular place frequented by people in the neighborhood. The people getting there haircuts there have been getting their haircuts there for over 15 years. Went here because of the prices. Wanted a quick touch up on fade. Nothing extraordinary. I was next in line, but Mr. Dan skipped me and told me to wait for the lady barber in the middle because she was almost done, and called over a guy who walked in after me. So I'm guessing regulars get preferential treatment. I let it go. I sit down and show the woman a picture of what I wanted. She says, oh ok. She gets it right the first time, then says " I need to blend in the sides some more" and shaves off even more hair which turns it into a high top. VERY DIFFERENT from what I wanted. Okay,....whatever I can't ask her to put back my hair. I get up to pay and she says $20......aaahhh. Why? I have short hair and all she did was trim the sides a little. Everyone who got a haircut before me (who were men all men form different backgrounds) had longer hair or wanted something more complicated than I did were charged $14. Not sure where the $20 came from but the price list seemed to match what I was charged by Mr. Dan during my 1st visit a couple of months ago, and what everyone else was being charged on this day. I have been coming here since high school, they are the greatest ever, I dint let anyone cut my hair but them. They have such a good understanding on how to treat their customers, they almost know all their customers by name and even how they like their haircuts, that to me says a lot. The great thing is, not only have they known me since HS, they are now cutting my sons hair, and theytake care of him like family. I have nothing but great things to say about them.
