I've been struggling to find a good place to get my son's haircut (age 5) since we moved to the area and decided to try this location today. His haircut turned out well. An older lady was cutting his hair. She seemed nice enough but looked as if she was a little rough when shaving his head. I couldn't really keep an eagle eye on his at all times as I had to watch my 2 year old as well. After she was done, I gave him a look over and he had a little nick on his ear. I thought no biggie. After I paid and got everyone buckled into their car seats, I noticed MULTIPLE scrapes and a larger nick/cut on the back of his ear. I've never had an issue like this before. He doesn't squirm or move. He's been getting his hair cut for years and knows how to sit still for them. Would I go here again? Possibly but I definitely will not have her cut his hair again. read more

First off, I would like to say that I am very sad to have to write this review. As most people know it can be a difficult decision to find the right fit for some personal services such as doctors, mechanics, and in my case, a barber. I have had a few good barbers over the last couple of years but they seem to change shops and leave you hanging looking for a new one which starts the whole process of seeking a good fit all over, ugh! That was the case when I stumbled on to this shop in Derwood MD. It always starts the same way, you come in with the luck of the draw as to which barber will be available. You explain what you would like done then cross your fingers and hope this is the one, at least for a while until they move on. Still status quo with this shop. Nice shop, personable staff, and a good quality hair cut. Wait for it! After I return for the 6th time, feeling like my few precious locks of hair were in good hands I brought my very particular young son in for the first time, feeling confident he would leave with a smile and we would head off for lunch. We did indeed go out afterwards but my son was encouraging me to go to the hospital and not out for lunch as it seemed I needed stitches. Leaving in a total state of denial and disappointment, we headed out. Keeping in mind I am a very stubborn guy when it comes to going to the doctor. I actually think I was more disappointed that the lady cutting my hair was not acknowledging that she had just opened my neck up with a straight razor. I knew she cut me but didn't think it was that bad until my mortified son and the other lady barber were telling Jackie the Ripper that she had seriously hurt me. She kept dabbing it and putting barber power in hopes that through Devine intervention it would stop bleeding but it didn't. I did leave without so much as and apology from the barber or the owner, which is the guy in the shops online pictures. Did I mention that they ask you to provide your name and phone number when you come in, which I always did, so they could reach out or market, or maybe just to be more personable with the clients. That said, I never got a phone call checking about my condition or thanking for the tip I still gave her. Call me crazy but I always tip because I am in the customer service business myself. I think I was just in shock then and probably more later thinking about that they even charged me. It took me a while to write this review because I really hate negativity but feel the barber and the business owner, who was right there don't deserve my patronage or silence any longer. Bottom line, know your blood type before you come here and request an electric razor. read more

Hit and miss. Have gone here 4 times and gotten 3 good haircuts. Last time asked for cleanup for a wedding and got a way too short cut. There are 3 or 4 ladies working here and one is not good unless you like it short. read more

This barber shop is located right in the heart of Derwood. Right in the middle of a small shopping center off the corner of Redland Rd and Muncaster Mill Rd. From all the years i've visited them, Ive only seen Fong and Bruce there. Both barbers are equally great a cutting men's hair. The shop is very clean and spacious. They are very good at keeping track of who comes first and greet everyone as they enter. For about 5 years, I stopped going here because I started cutting my own hair and upon my return they still recognized my face and it was as it as if I just saw them last week. I would recommend them for a quick cut before the holiday party or just need a clean fade for the next work week. Both Fong and Bruce are solid barbers. Visiting from out-of-town, I found this husband-wife run barbershop. For $17 I got a terrific haircut. The shop is extremely clean and takes walk-ins. My barber was friendly and did a conscientious job of cutting my hair the way I wanted it. If I lived here the Redland Barber Shop would be my shop of preference. read more

Phuong (Pronounced Fong) is awesome. I recently Moved here from Florida and I've been trying barber shops all over the area. Fong is the best. I have a balding head which is really hard to cut unless it's shaved all over which I don't do because of my head shape. Phuong takes the time to shape my hair to make it look great and short but not a cue ball. I highly recommend her. In addition the shop is clean, organized and well-maintained. There are many b-shops around with tons of unswept hair and dirty tools, but not this place. Pride of ownership shows! read more

My first time there was good the second time the barber Bruce didn't chance the blade he used to shave me and cut me on my cheek, no apology came right after he just continued as if nothing had happened when it was all done and i got to me car i took a closer look and discovered that it was three cuts not only one. The lady that helped me was very nice, but when I saw the end result I was astonished at the lack of skill with a blade. My beard was completely jacked up and all the lines were crooked and she did a terrible job of fading in my side burns. I spent another 45 minutes at home trying to fix her debacle.
