Mr. Flamingo certainly has the right open-air tiki vibe to earn its reputation as PV's gay party central. Am I right, ladies? Well, for Jamie W and me, our days of nocturnal social boozing are well behind us. Maybe I can see them in the rearview mirror of life because memories can be closer than they appear in reality. Know what I'm sayin'? Anyhow, we arrived here in the middle of a Sunday afternoon when it was almost as still as a tomb. Except for one older guy (a relative term) who kept changing his seat presumably to see if he could get a better view of the passing beef. The bartender was a bit lethargic as he waited for the ice machine to be ready before offering their signature drinks. Jamie ordered the MX$130 Mr. Flamingo, a tantalizing tango of rum, banana liqueur, and cranberry juice. Just to be different or maybe contrary, I went with the MX$130 Flamingo Tikki, a Tequila Sunrise takeoff with Absolut mango, orange & cranberry juice, and grenadine (Photo 10). They were the right libations at the right place but maybe not so much the right time. Hola y bienvenido a Mr. Flamingo! This fast casual bar is a must and the party isn't just inside this tropical esque quaint space. It's on the street as well with open window overlooking Calle Lázaro Cárdenas and all things Zona Romántica. We popped in for drinks after dinner and some awesome remixes, music vids, dancing and pure fun at the best little bar with huge energy. The crowd was good, not to crowded when we first arrived but wow did it fill up! And in true travel fashion we ran into some people as well as friends from Los Angeles and from events this past year. Definitely a cool hub for locals and travelers. They have restrooms upstairs and seating along the open-air space that are first come first serve. After dancing to a few great hits #PopDivasDoItBest we managed to find two open chairs to enjoy more beverages, happy patrons and each other's company. Mr. Flamingo's is like a slice of home and comfort meets beachy fiesta bliss. Even when it's beyond ocupado you can still make your way up to the bar for a drink - and the wait isn't as intimidating as it looks. This is where you come to start your night off and finish. The crowd draws you in with the fun music and people hanging outside and dancing inside. It's always packed with people everytime we walked by. It's not big but it does pack a lot of people. Restroom is on the second floor and bar is downstairs. It could be a while trying to get a drink as everyone is doing the same thing. Beer is cheap which is a plus. Also looked like people would take their drinks and stand along the street juts mingling and chatting. They may have someone walking up and down taking drink orders but not quite sure about that. Good thing is open feel so it's not stuffy and you get a breeze. The main floor/ bar area literally is a dance floor. People enjoying themselves and letting loose. If you haven't been, I would suggest having a drink and a little dancing. read more

Mr. Flamingo is... well, Mr. Flamingo. I've been coming to this bar for years, and after not being in PV for a while, I can honestly say nothing has changed. Same vibe, same setup--down to it still being cash-only, which is kind of lame in 2026. What really disappointed me, though, was the service this time around. The bartender who helped my husband and me on Friday night honestly shouldn't be in the industry. He seemed irritated, like we were an inconvenience, and had zero interest in actually helping us. On top of that, the drinks were basically all juice with little to no alcohol--huge turnoff. With so many great spots in PV, I'd much rather spend my money somewhere that values its customers and delivers what you're paying for. This visit definitely made me rethink coming back. read more

Whenever we visit Puerto Vallarta, we always make it a point to visit Mr. Flamingo. My partner just adores the bartenders and staff. She always feels safe here. There's been many a times where I would tap out at midnight and return to the resort, while she would still hang around at Mr Flamingo til 2am. No problem. By far, this is the best open setting gay bar corner spot in Romantica Zone. Drama-free and clean. We can always count on having loads of fun and laughter, non stop music and dancing, casual or dressy, be who you want to be (gay, straight, whoever), younger, older, or in the middle, no one judges. Everyone minds their own business. All groups of people come to Mr Flamingo, even bridal parties. We have seen them all. Let's not forget about pride month. It's lit here and you will get to see up front and center action when the parade comes through. We had visited couple nights ago with friends. I expected the DJ to play his usual artists (Britney spears, Cher, Madonna, Dua Lipa, Elton John...you get the picture). It was either close to midnight when the genre was switched up to Latin. We were all surprised. I would say a good hour of it was playing. Note, the DJ has declined our song requests in past. Perhaps the DJ is now taking suggestions in mixing up his music. Regardless what kind of music the DJ plays, Mr Flamingo's will guarantee a movin and groovin. The dance floor is not very large. So don't be surprise as you may find yourself dancing by the bar area, at bottom of stairwell, or even by the entrance. Just find a spot and dance as the area usually shifts from being roomy to a not so roomy dance floor. When it's super pack, some even dance on the bench or outside, on the sidewalk. Mr. Flamingo is a fun place to dance. It's open to the street on a corner with seating that lines the sidewalk. Music is a fun DJ mix that kept the crowd pleased. The crowd was mostly gay dudes, with a few girls mixed in. The dancing was fun and the scene overall very upbeat and friendly. At one point a glass broke in the middle of the dance floor and everyone watched out for each other, finding all the glass shards carefully to ensure safety. My +1 had a purse with her, which she regretted as there's no good place to keep it without it being easily accessible to a grab from the street. Others had fanny packs, which we would do next time. The drinks we tried *sucked*, like "Squirt with a shot of Vodka" bad. But, the easy-to-jump-in-and-out atmosphere kinda grew on me. Plenty of customers mid day and completely packed like a can of sardines late in the evening. We stumbled upon this bar because the crowd was spilling out onto the sidewalks, and it was NOT on Yelp! Doh! Plus, I think they're pretty new as the outdated issue of "Gay PV" I have has an ad from them stating "hopefully opening soon." There was no signage on the building either. Being over the bar scene, I reluctantly obliged as you were able to drink on the sidewalks, as long as it was in a cup, and my spouse agreed to brave the madness to fetch me a beer lol. Toward the end of the night we did step foot inside as some tables opened up. THE BAR: It's a small, open air space with a tropical theme. The big open windows allowed the thumping music to fill the streets and entertain all. Though the inside seemed packed, bar service was quick and not backed up. The restrooms are upstairs in the loft. The crowd was a nice mix of all walks of life. No dance floor. SERVICE: One particular server we had was so adorable, friendly and professional. The bar is like a huge patio party, except the patio is wide open to the street corner. There's nothing dark and closeted about Mr. Flamingo. The DJ constantly spun upbeat energetic party music and the vibe is vacation casual and fun. Cute Mr. Flamingo cocktail waiters in short shorts kept the drinks coming. I really liked the vibe at Mr. Flamingos. It's very new so it's very crowded, which is a good thing and a bad thing. I dig that it's open-air to the streets so you're not completely claustrophobic if you hang by the edges. It's a small space, people seem friendly and in a good mood here, and the drinks are reasonably priced and strong enough. The crowd is cuter than some other places, for whatever reason. My husband and I stopped here for ONE drink but the atmosphere, the music and overall mood of this place kept us there much longer. The bartender appeared to be the only employee working the bar. He was so friendly and I can't say enough good about him and the bar. Bathrooms are clean and well stocked, drinks well made. We visit Vallarta yearly and will definitely come back here. I told him that he's an old soul trapped in a young body- he played the best mix of new and old classic pop and dance hits. This seems also called La Margarita Bar, but either way, it's our go-to bar in Zona Romantica. Yes, it's a gay bar, but it's really pan-friendly, which is how we like it. Everyone's welcome. The drinks are good and reasonably priced, and the place gets busy (but not crushed like Mr. Flamingo, ugh) so it's a lively crowd. Lots of bar space and wait staff mean you don't have to wait long for a drink (like some nearby bars). Plus, great video DJs. What's not to like? read more

SUMMARY: ALL TOURISTS AVOID THIS LOCATION. THEY WILL SCAM YOU. We were visiting from out of the country for the first time to Mexico. We were told that every place was very hospitable and friendly - especially during the long the weekends when this area expects a lot of visitors and tourists. The bar had the nerve to rip us off on drinks. When we gave them 600 pesos (with which we had 3 people witnessing) they FOUGHT us tooth and nail to say we only paid them 480 pesos....after we had argued with them for 15 minutes, we finally decided to leave. While the cost wasn't that big of a "loss" - it was the principle that mattered. They were willing to call security and call their other "staff" that were clearly NOT there when we ordered the drink to corroborate their story. CLEARLY this establishment chooses to SCAM tourists for their money just because they perceive us as not knowing any better. DO NOT COME HERE!!! They may seem very popular and excitable with their lights, Americanized decoration and music, etc. but they will take every opportunity to TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU. This bar is so much fun! It's an open air dance friendly gay bar in the heart of old town. They play popular music (which tends to repeat if you're there a long time) and show music videos on their tv screens. The bar is one huge palapa, the dj is suspended above the dance floor next to the bathrooms. I had such a great time with friends every time we visited. Really love this place. Friendly crowd, awesome music and great drinks. The bad? Everyone loves it so it can be overly crowded. The crowd spills onto the sidewalk out front frequently. Come early enough and you'll be able to avoid the crowd and secure your group a nice location where you'll meet lots of men from all over. Still, the place is small enough that you're really never more than 20 feet from the bar, yet they still have a few servers roaming around to fetch drinks for you. Most challenging thing is navigating the crowd to get to the washrooms, which are located at the top of a flight of stairs. This bar is my new favorite gay bar in PV. The music is pretty great and everybody kind of just at stands and drinks and dances. It's a great "starter" bar to go to before you head up to La Noche or out clubbing at CC's or Paco's Ranch -- all of these other bars are within 150' of Mr Flamingos. Oh - the staff. This was a fun place that I found in the district that welcomes all. I usually stay away from loud places, but I was downtown previously that night and it was pretty dead, and this place was happening! Drinks are pretty affordable and they can pretty much make anything you want. Staff is really good at entertaining while making sure everyone is having a good time and giving excellent service. I really like that even though it is a gay establishment, they welcome all. The music was a mix of recent and 90's, which you can request from the DJ. It's an open air place with no doors or windows so you can catch the breeze on a cool PVR night. It's also a prime spot for people watching: CC Slaughters is right across from it and you can catch some interesting peeps walking around. In a previous review I mentioned how my friend girl and I made friends with a gay male couple on our flight to Puerto Vallarta. We met up with them each night to party the night away and each morning for a hangover brunch. On night 2, we decided to see what Mr. Flamingo was all about. The bar sits on the corner of the street and was overflowing with men both young and older. The music was loud and attention grabbing. My friend and I parked it at the bar while our new friends got their dance on around the floor. It was literally a sea of men who were mingling amongst each other. You had the young men grinding all over each other and the daddies looking for a sugar baby. These men knew how to have a good time. At one point it appeared that a shirtless memo had been spread about and all you saw were abs, sweat, and lust. The crowd of men was pretty diverse. We actually visited Mr. Flamingo on 2 different nights of our time in the city. Each night it was packed and rowdy. I am not sure what time they close because despite us being out until the wee hours they had yet to slow down when we departed.
