My party and I stumbled into Mr. Fong's because we were facing a 45 minute wait at the Golden Diner around the corner. When we saw this place, I knew we had to go back because the vibes were just so 90s New York and I was immediately drawn to it. Before we even stepped inside, I fell in love with the front door and its corner entrance column. I bet 30 years ago people were getting mugged left and right outside, it's giving Gotham. I have to come back here in a brown leather outfit with brown lipstick, brown eyeliner, and my bangs perfectly styled with skinny sunglasses in leather boots and have a cocktail at this place. It just giving me those bad girl in leather vibes. If I smoked cigarettes, that would complete the look. Oh and besides the vibes, I absolutely love the cocktail menu. It's very different from what I normally see and as soon as I saw the Pepperoncini Martini (the very first drink!) I knew I had to have it. I love savory cocktails like that since I can't stand super sweet ones. This martini was delicious and the drops of sesame oil made it even more complex! You can choose vodka or gin for your base but I went with vodka. So good. Also true to 90s vibes, there's a pool table in the corner of this place. God it's so grungy, I freaking love it! read more

Dive bar with interesting drinks? Yes! Came here with a few friends for a casual night out. No frill, no thrill, just a good time. We were already grabbing dinner in Chinatown, so Mr Fong's was a close by choice for post dinner funsies. Order at the bar, because its just 1-2 bartenders running. Theres a pool table, some booths, perfect for a low key night. I had 2 different drinks here, one was the salted plum old fashioned, the other was mezcal + carrot. First one wasnt plum enough for me, I was expecting heavy li hing mui tastes. Glad I switched over to the mezcal + carrot. If you're ever a health but and had a bunch of green juices, carrot juice in this case, this drink is for you. It's smoky, it gives off the pretense of being healthy. Another drink my friends raved about was the pepperoncini martini. Very easy to drink and a pepperoncini to gnaw on. read more

Mr. Fong's is located in a corner on the Lower East Side (near the edge of Chinatown) and from the outside it looks like a seedy bar you would see in a Batman movie where our hero would go into to get information from the criminal underbelly of Gotham. However, that exterior is deceptive and a large part of its charm. With a single column at the entrance and Old Skool NYC styled moldings on the exterior, this looks like the type of store you see in Edward Hopper's "Drug Store" painting (that said, this is not that store, just the same style). Before you even walk in, there is this feel of a grittier time and some serious history. When you go in however, this is clearly a place that has been renovated and upkept. A large floral arrangement was on one side of the bar, a modern art painting hung on one wall and in the back was a pool table that appeared to be in really good shape. The bathrooms are beyond the pool table. The bar is possibly a carry over from the previous establishment or brought in when the bar opened in 2015 but it felt like the "oldest" part of the bar and it was great. The staff is a bit gruff but very efficient and work quickly to fulfill orders. I had the Crabbies Ginger Beer. I loves me a ginger beer with it's sharp but sweet flavor and this one was perfect. It was sweet but had a sharpness and snap at the end of the sip that was wonderful. My friend ordered the Pepperoncini Martini which is a traditional martini with literal Pepperoncini peppers in it and a drop of sesame seed oil. Believe it or not, the combination works even though it was a bit too savory for my tastes. I look forward to my next visit to Mr. Fong's. I dig the setting, the vibe and the drinks. Trendy, crowded (it was Friday), loud, and with dive-y prices, Mr. Fong's pleasantly surprised me by way of visual setting, though it was almost too clamorous and packed for my friend and I to hold a conversation until we moved by the door to get some air. The queue for a drink was rather long and confusing. We waited for a bartender on one side of the bar before giving up and switching to the other side and bartender (two were working), only to not be noticed by her either for a solid chunk of time, despite pressing up on the bar. From other reviews, it looks like this (and "bad drinks") are a consistent problem with this place, so perhaps some of the staff are just not so experienced; don't let the ambiance fool you, this is not a mixology place. For what it's worth, I would come by here again under the right circumstances, maybe trying a weeknight to see if it's more chill. read more

I like this Two Bridges bar. The first few times I went here, it was nice because I was with my friends! It gets super crowded and loud, but the energy is nice. The bartenders may forget to serve you here and there because they're chatting, but it adds to the uniqueness of the place. Overall, I find it charming. The last time I was here in January 2023, some weird drunk guy outside tried following me, but once I walked around the block and ditched him, I walked back to the bar. The person I was meeting up with here was kicked out (note: I wasn't the reason because I'm not that kinda girl ) by the bouncer 2 minutes after I arrived. I wasn't given an explanation by the bouncer, but I was given a warning that he's "a loser" and I should stay away from him. That was a fairly rough start to my night that only got worse... ...but that had nothing to do with the bar! The moral of the story is go here and have some fun! read more

So in full transparency, I had NO idea this place was here. I have walked from Monk McGinn's to Old Man Hustle/Clockwork bar, more times than I can count (or remember). Had I know this place was in the middle, I absolutely would have stopped in, but that's the thing...they don't seem to advertise...like at all. Anywho, we finally made our way in here (courtesy of some friends in the know), and I liked what I found. Mostly the scorpion bowl for four*, and the low key atmosphere. Yeah, it was a little quirky (the backward writing on half the drinks sign? I know you're going for a theme, but don't make it hard to read what drinks you're slinging are for half the bar), but all in I enjoyed it. The bartender that was on was also super down to earth and easy to talk to, so that helped a bunch. You ever read The Lover? Ever see the film? That's the aura of this bar. And I was a 10/10 whore for it. Difficult to find at first, I wandered in around 5pm. I was the only person there. I wondered if I had accidentally bumped into them still opening. But the fella, said hello and placed a napkin in front of me. The place is calming, just before the sun goes down, it leaks in through the windows and warms up the place. I love the mirror back on the bar. Drink wise: Yeh. OK. For where is it, I was surprised by the prices. They're Manhattan average. Tho I suspect they're not paying WV rent prices. Whatevs tho. I had the gin lavender. Meh. And the vodka celery soda. More meh but interesting. I did like the bartender, he was very vibey and blase in a good way. The following time I came, I had the female bartender which everyone seems to agree is a jerk. We went to Mr.Fongs after a rowdy engagement party. It basically became the impromptu after party. Huge thanks to Ashley who put up with our tipsy whirlwind! She made delicious cocktails. I especially enjoyed the "Tequila & Roses". This is literal, there is tequila with some other yummies and sprinkled with dried roses. Others ordered drafts and bottles of wine. And some could not resist the Scorpion Bowls. There was limited table seating. It was almost a waiting contest of who would leave first. There was a pair of girls babying the last little sips. Eventually they left and 6 people were able to sit in the spot. The bar is dark and hidden. I thought I couldn't be happier. But the new bartender came in with his thick Burt Reynolds mustache. He was also on the ball pouring drinks and everyone was very happy. It's a miracle I even left this place but mark my words, I shall return! How could I resist!? read more

If I didn't know that this bar was there, I definitely would have walked past it and not been any the wiser. There was no signage, and the interior was dark. There were a few people loitering outside, so maybe that would have clued me in, but the entrance itself isn't obvious. Came here with a friend expecting a low-key atmosphere, and that was exactly what I got. On a weekday night, there weren't too many people in the bar, though since there was only one bartender working we did manage to still have to wait a while to be served. We both ordered the cider that they had on tap. The cider was pretty decent and went down easily, but at $8 each glass quite expensive. Luckily, I didn't have a problem with my card getting charged a different tip amount than I'd put down, though I did fill out both receipts just to be safe. Would have been cheaper and just as chill if we'd just bought some of our own cider and hung out at my apartment. There wasn't anything too stand out about the bar. Fun, dark little bar in Two Bridges. We stopped by for a drink before going to an early dinner in Chinatown, and it was pretty empty (this was 5pm on a Saturday). We all got the Fong's colada, which was AMAZING. I really dislike most pina coladas, and am very picky about coconut in drinks. But you need to get this. I hope the Bartender was just having a bad day because the service was terrible, impolite and even rude at times. He walked away as we were ordering drinks, he accidentally charged us for an extra drink and basically said we were lying when we told him (although he did refund the drink), and again "accidentally" according to my square receipt email, raised my tip, I left 20%, but was charged 32%... Maybe it was a fluke...? Be cautious here. read more

House drinks are great! It was a little strong for me but the flavors were really unique and delicious. The bartender Carmen was extremely chill and knew her stuff. Mixing and infusing liquors, which I don't know much about but I was seriously impressed. Will be back next time to try their snacks! Its not pretentious, but the patrons are pretty fashionable. At 8pm the place had plenty of standing room but nowhere to sit. As soon as I spot opened at the bar, we jumped at it. I don't understand why the ratings are a little low for this bar as I had a great time on a random Wednesday night! The ambience was exactly what I was looking for - an almost more upscale version of a dive bar, with quirky, but pretty decorations. Drinks were very interesting and very stiff! We had the Szechuan peppercorn tequila drink called the tequila zombie and the fong's colada. Would highly recommend the fong's colada, especially if you like coconut and pandan flavor! This is a really great bar. It's hip but not at all pretentious. (I ordered a large can of Asian beer and two seltzer waters and I paid... just $7 for the lot. That would never happen at a pretentious bar). It's kind of timeless. It's Asian decor but it's subtle. There is curved seating and nice lamps and a marble bar and there is even a jukebox although it seemed that the music (good, btw) was coming from somewhere else. I love this bar, except for the bartender. It is by far one of my favourite bars in Manhattan. The atmosphere is cool, the music is fun, the crowd is cool and young and the drinks are good. There is however one major downfall to this bar - one of the bartenders. I don't know her name but she has long brown hair and always looks like a pissed off, moody teenager and is always there. I have never come across someone who seems to hate their job as much as she does and what surprises me more is that the owners would want someone so miserable working there and taking on the role of the main point of contact with the. Customers. She is rude, unpleasant and for her own sake, as well as everyone else's (those involved in the business and those visiting) should quit or be fired. She ruins the place and it has such enormous potential that it saddens me to see one pointless, irrelevant person bringing it down. read more
