The fries are good. The drinks were fine. It was a lively crowd when we came on a Monday evening around 5:30pm. Otherwise, not a fan of the uncomfortable bar seating and the bartender this time around was rude. I've been twice and not been impressed with the service whatsoever. At one point, I said excuse me, kindly, to get the bartender Derek's attention, and he literally stuck his finger out to tell me to hold on and said "I'm busy." With an attitude. If I could give 0 stars I unfortunately would. Came here with a group of friends this past weekend and a waitress (Tabatha I now know is her name) took our orders. When it came my chance to order, I requested a very well known drink and just asked to include a splash of liquor in it... I would of course pay the premium for the splash of liquor. You would have thought I cursed the waitress out or said something to attack her character at the look of disgust on her face. She rolled her eyes and with the look of disgust, asked me to repeat the order. I very respectfully repeated the order and she looked at me like I had 10 heads and rolled her eyes again... amongst other things whispered under her breath. I politely said that I was here to have a nice time with my friends and not be judged. Well, she wasn't very happy I said that and told me to "not make it weird babe" and that she "just won't serve me then." Just so it's clear, I ordered a Hugo spritz and asked to add a splash of vodka. Every other bar I've been to I've never had anyone, including a server, give me a hard time about this order. However, Tabatha was so so rude and threatened to not serve me when I had done nothing wrong. I was not being disrespectful nor was I extremely intoxicated. I ended up going to the restroom and was very upset and cried in there. I stayed at the bar for my friends - who had eventually gotten my drink for me. I later observed Tabatha taking multiple shots of liquor throughout the evening on the job. That's not my problem, but maybe it contributed to the rudeness and unprofessional behavior I received. That being said, I hope management can see how this is not appropriate behavior and most certainly not a way to speak to customers...specifically those that haven't done anything to deserve it. If you visit here and Tabatha is your waitress, please be careful. This place is so mid. One time I tried coming and it was so packed my friends and I ended up leaving. This time, we came back around 8 pm on a Friday but for good. We were seated a table in the back. It was a very wide table, kinda awkward/long distance from the person sitting across from you. What we got: - Fried chicken sandwich ($15 but fries are extra $4): I liked this but the bun is so small for how much chicken you have. And the plate is tiny. - Summer heat cocktail - Burger - Grain bowl: my friend said this was so bad. Like no flavor and not what she was expecting at all. What a great spot! We came here on a friends recommendation and left super happy. First off, the place looks super cute, cozy and nice. You walk in to a comfortable bar space with tables peppered in throughout. The drinks were amazing. We got the West of 7th which is lemony and light. The cucumber gimlet was one of the better ones I've had. The best drink of the evening was definitely Upstate - it was like fall in a cup and absolutely delicious! The food was incredible too - the kale salad was so tasty and had such a great dressing, just a hint of onion without actually biting into any, and the toasted hazelnuts added the perfect crunch. The burger was great too - juicy, cooked perfectly well and the sauce was so good. Overall, loved everything we got here and the staff is super friendly too. Went here for a quick pregame with a friend and was not disappointed! Had a nice, strong spicy margarita and enjoyed Brussels sprouts that had bacon and a delicious sauce. Didn't feel stuffy to us at all. So anyways, this waitress would not it let go. I decided to just walk away and sit down at the non stuffy table. A few minutes go by and she comes to the table and tells my group "hey I'm feeling a little disrespected right now". Whoa there buddy...Why? Okay let me first point out that the area this bar is located at is already saturated with variety of bars walking distance. Obviously there's competition left and right for a groovy bar with relaxing ambiance. But this place has it's charm. Like there was a girl sitting next to us just reading a book in a dark.. with a strong drink sitting on a counter. We had a gin based cocktails. Both were very good. Bartender was attentive and able to provide answers to all of our questions regarding food on the menu. We chose to order a burger which tasted good but was a bit dry. This is a cozy little spot we've enjoyed for brunch a couple times. My review is solely for the brunch experience. Crowd is generally light at this time so keep this place in mind if you're not in the mood for a wait. The brunch offerings are delightful and jolly British. If you've never had a Scotch Egg, do yourself a favor, pop in here and try one! Unbeatable pricing for brunch cocktails, and the coffee is superb. You get your own little French press. Super cozy half booths line one side and the front by the window. Bar stools don't have backs which could be a comfort issue for some. Staff are nice and attentive, and agreeable to accommodate dietary needs. Itty bitty bathrooms make brilliant use of limited space. Very clean. After brunch, my date and I went here for drinks. I am not all that familiar with West Village so it was nice finding all these places via date. This place is your normal bar moment. Nothing fancy, but they aren't trying to be fancy. The minute I walked in, I had eye contact with someone that looked familiar. I was not sure where I saw him, but I felt like he was somewhat famous. I was a bit tipsy from brunch so I went to the restroom and scanned through my very little knowledge of celebrities. Then it hit me, How I Met Your Father. He was one of the actors from there. I asked Spencer, our cool bartender, if the actor was who I thought he was. "Keep it cool" is what he said, which I thought was hilarious. He wasn't Gisele Bundchen so I wasn't going to fan girl over him. I did take a sneaky pic for the gram, but that was all (millennial in me couldn't resist). If I am being honest, that day turned to night is a blur. I remember up until that point, but I do not remember what I drank here. All I know is I didn't mind just continuing my drinking moment here and Spencer was just great. However, accordingly to my date, he liked my date more than me. It is fine, we all can be friends. And told me to order the Pork sliders , which weren't bad . I think it was $11 at the time and it was happy hour till 7pm it's a great spot for pickup dates are meeting one . I'm one night I'm meet the New York Rangers there to and got autographs also . This place is too crowded at night to goto unless it's your type of scene . They have a big beer list and make specials drinks too . In recent years, I've chosen not to have a birthday party, mostly because I hate people. When I used to hate people less, I would choose a restaurant, or someone's home as the venue. On the rare occasion that I decided to have it at a bar, I would choose a bar (always in Brooklyn) that no one likes, and/or have it on a Tuesday so it would be empty. Because again, I hate people and never want to have to deal with them. I am the only sensible person I know. (This includes you, idiot.) Whenever my misguided friends have birthdays, they always choose (1) bars in downtown Manhattan that (2) everyone and their stepmother loves, and (3) have it on a Saturday. Wilfie & Nell is one of these bars. It's great. Tons of fun, the servers and bartenders are awesome, the music is good, and I've never had a bad time there. I love it, you love it, and the thousand other people that want to be there on a Saturday night love it. But just know that if you have your birthday party there on a Saturday night, I'm going to have to wait in line outside in the cold, and I'm going to hate you. The waitress serving us drinks was so kind and helpful and friendly, she even offered to hang our coats up for us which I thought was really nice of her hah. My friends and I just had drinks; I had the Christmas in Oaxaca which was surprisingly delicious, smooth rich almost cocoa like coffee with orange flavor, and the winter chill. The decor was cute and clean, an upscale chic pub vibe; definitely would be good for a drink on a week night date. Great spot for drinks in West Village. There are a handful of decent beers on tap, but the real money is the cocktails, which are creative and delicious. The space is very cozy, with warm lighting, wooden tables, and an old school bar that reminds me of an old tavern. The food looks good, sorry I can't comment on it personally though :( I've been on a Friday night and a weekend afternoon, and it's been pretty busy both times. Even with the constant stream of people, the staff is very helpful and service was outstanding. Our server was absolutely on her game, even when our table was out of the way and the restaurant was completely packed. Prices are a touch lower than other restaurants in the neighborhood, and I'll definitely be popping in here for a drink every once in a while. Stopped in to eat lunch and to get out of a cold windy day while walking around the West Village. Good stop. This is a cool pub setting and they offered a brunch menu. It was about noon-ish when I got there. Brunch drinks were only $5 with a brunch food order. I sat at the bar and had a Bloody Buffalo (or something like that) which was a Bloody Mary with a beef bouillon added. Tasty. I also ordered a fried chicken sandwich which sounds boring but was actually very nice. The coating was like fried chicken, not like a breaded chicken cutlet and the sandwich had coleslaw and pickles which made it even better. Side of fries to round it out. Nice atmosphere, cool room. Wilfie & Nell is that friend who shows up for you no matter what. You might not be in touch a lot of the time, but when you do finally talk, you can pick up right where you left off. It's that friend you feel safe and comfortable with. When you're with them, you can take a load off and just be. In my experience, there aren't a lot of friends who fit this description and there aren't a lot of bars in Manhattan that feel this way either. Wilfie & Nell was one of the first non-Columbia bars I went to in NYC after turning 21. Five years later, I've continued to return sporadically and I've continued to feel at home there. It's fabulous neighborhood bar and fits the general vibe of the West Village pretty perfectly: cozy and classy, unpretentious and a safe haven. I am always shocked at how down-to-earth and manageable everything feels at Wilfie & Nell considering its location. It's as central as it gets in the West Village--right off the Christopher St. stop on the 1, about three steps west of 7th Ave South. Though it's always pretty full during peak hours, it never--in my experience--feels overly crowded. That said, I've never been during the later hours, so it's quite possible it gets packed here. Even when busy, it's relaxed. The space itself, the lighting and the music are part of what accounts for this relaxed atmosphere. Exposed brick, dim lighting, lots of wood, low ceilings but a fairly spread out space. Warm and intimate but not quite romantic. One thing I love about this place is its versatility. I've been here on a date, with my parents and with friends. It's good for one-on-one occasions and large groups alike. A lot of West Village establishments--at least when it comes to bars--are on the small side. Wilfie & Nell is spread out enough that you could easily bring a group of six here without being relegated to standing room only. One of the reasons W&N holds a special place in my heart is its focus on whiskey. While this isn't the kind of whiskey bar that boasts hundreds upon hundreds of whiskeys, ranging from the most commonplace to the most obscure, they've got a solid selection and it's approachable. When I first came here soon after turning 21, I had only tried Bulleit Bourbon and Bulleit Rye (I preferred the rye, at the time). Here, they recommended Basil Hayden's and it rocked my world. It catapulted me into a love for *both* bourbon and rye, which is as strong as ever now. Baby's first Basil Hayden! It was love. They've usually got Blantons and Willett Small Batch, too. Perfect for a winter night. Pro tip: if you ask for a single ice cube (that's generally my preference), they'll bring you two glasses: one filled with your whiskey, the other with your ice cube. Dilute at your convenience. Food-wise, lots of fun apps and a good collection of mains. I haven't ordered food from here in years, but I remember liking the Devils on Horseback and the Kale Salad. My dad ordered the Fried Pickled Cauliflower last night, which he liked a lot. Service is top-notch. Pacing is perfect and they leave you alone when you need it. No complaints there.
