A dive bar in the best possible sense. The back room is the highlight - a dimly lit room strung with Christmas lights. To keep things lively, they have arcade games and darts as well. I came with a group of friends and there is plenty of seating even for larger groups, and drink prices are affordable. The only thing I did not love was that they don't offer any snacks or food. But you are allowed to bring food for other establishments inside, which helps. read more

Kettle Of Fish is a great place and I prefer it over Stonewall. The servers that work here are no nonsense and lovable and make you feel like family. We had the best trio of servers and due to the amount of Nutrls with Kettle we do not remember a single one of these ladies' names. The Suncrusier Iced Teas were also amazing and when it was suggested, I realized it was actual better that the Nutrl. We appreciate you not being cash only so many places are around the area and I prefer to see what I'm being charged for an itemized setting. I could stay here all afternoon as many people who were there already were. This is a place that makes you feel like you're in the core of the village time has stopped and it's one of the magic easy-going places in New York City. read more

We visited NYC in December. We're from WI so we were excited to find a GBP bar. It's a cool spot, but quite honestly, there were a lot of poser Packer fans. If you're looking for "Midwest nice" it's not your spot. We didn't eat so I can't speak to any food they may serve. Staff was cool. It was very crowded so we left at halftime and we watched the rest of the game at our hotel. Not what I was expecting for a $50 cover charge, but maybe that's to be expected in a big city. read more

If you like the smell of pee to chase your stale beer and a bartender that cringingly tries to embarrass you then this is the place! I took clients from out of town here to try and show them a New York dive bar. This place knows that stereotype. It's obvious because they try to fake it and amplify it to a factor of 10. The bartender made my clients feel awkward by roasting them for their orders. Finally, after what could've been a 2 minute order turned into 10 from the bartender making god awful jokes, he kicked my coworker out! My coworker is sober, and the bartender claimed he was too drunk? I love the New York bar scene and the dive bars especially. This place is the dive bar that you'd go to if you hated your kids and went to New York searching to actively ruin your life. read more

Kettle of Fish was an awesome accident that happened to me one night. Came here with bad company, but left with a great time, and it's because of this bar. It feels like a local neighborhood secret, and it's completely devoid of college kids, which is rare in this area. It's a humble little place that's a level below fancy West Village brownstones, and before you go in, you don't expect the loud crowd and the fun vibes inside. It has one room of a TV and the bar, and the second room with tables and games, including darts and pinball. There's also a space in the back That's available for group reservations. There was a company holiday party taking place the night that I went, but not a fancy one in the least bit. Everyone was really friendly and mingling among groups, so definitely don't come here for privacy or intimacy! Instead, come for a festive atmosphere and colorful decor, not to mention, really cheap drinks. However, I would stay away from the appetizers, such as the guac, as they weren't great! If you're looking for a no-frills, inexpensive, casual bar with the option of games, this is your place. read more

My friends and I ended up at Kettle of Fish last weekend, after eating dinner nearby. So much fun! - There were two dart boards, and even though it was Saturday night, it was really easy for us to get on one of the boards and start playing. - The bar was busy but not overly crowded- we managed to find a relatively big empty table for our group to sit at. - The clientele seemed interesting and not overly douchey (although there were a few, when are there not?). - The bar was unpretentious, cozy, chill, and drinks were moderately priced I think my favorite moment of the night was when a domino's delivery guy showed up to deliver pizza in the bar. He had trouble finding who had ordered it, so was standing around awkwardly in the middle of the bar for awhile. The pizza eventually found it's owner, and even though I had just eaten dinner, I was jealous. My least favorite moment was when I went to use the bathroom and it was a onesie and there were about 3 girls in front of me. What the hell do girls do in the bathroom that takes so long?? But if that's the worst thing I can say about a bar, then you know it's pretty awesome. read more

Drinks are a bit overpriced; I know it's nyc and the village, but even so. They don't actually know how to make a Wisconsin old fashioned. Wisconsinites like to include sweet soda or sour soda in their old fashioned (or sometimes press too). It's a fun vibe for watching the packer games for sure and other fun customers! I'm always super pumped and exited to visit here but the experience is always sort of a let down because of the drinks and staff can be eh, but I still go back out of Wisconsin pride. Owner is from Appleton I believe, and his son tends bar too. Son is nice! It's just an okay place. You can go once and say you've been there and call it a day. read more

It is safe to say you may find Appetite and KosTello, armed with singles, tucked into a corner at Kettle of Fish playing MegaTouch; he drinking the champagne of beers, myself with a white wine. The music is on point and the space is casual. Only gripe was we wanted to play the x-rated version of Photo Hunt, but it was not available. It was a pleasant Sunday evening and the missing game was not going to taint our good spirits. One of the better dive bars I've been to in NYC. Affordable drinks, great throwback DJ (the bartender), comfy couches, and the best part of this place is that you will be able to play darts! When we got here, there was even a tournament going. But it was a good place to meet new people, the volume was enough to have a decent conversation. They can also make a good hot toddy. read more

This is my go to bar when I am in the West Village. It is Wisconsin in New York City, and if you have been "up north" you know what to expect.; warm folks taking good care of you, with a hearty laugh and a strong pour. Kettle of Fish is so incongruous for this particular block, and for the West Village, and even New York City, it almost has a campy coolness for the uninitiated. But this bar is real with no camp or scamp. You're in Crivitz, or Rhinelander, or Boulder Junction. There is no pretentiousness, no hip, just good ole boy Wisconsin. As dive bars go, this one is pretty awesome. I was in for some holiday day drinking and the few beers I had here was quite a pleasant experience. First, the bartender was really nice and accommodating letting me sample some beers before making my decision. Second, the price was solid at this West Village dive bar running you about $6 for a craft beer pint. Lastly, the buyback. The bartender offered to pick up our third beer. Why thank you. It's rare these days when the random NYC bartender offers to buy ya a drink, so it was super appreciated. I definitely recommend if in the area, stopping by to this iconic West Village bar. It's almost as if Wayne and Garth decided to open a bar in their parent's finished basement rec-room. Brick walls and dark wood paneling, dart boards, fireplace with a few couches nearby, a few tv's hanging around, some random tables and chairs, beer signage on the walls, and some Green Bay Packers stuff scattered about. Monster classic rock selection playing such as Rush, Queen, Cheap Trick, Van Halen, etc. Pinball machine and some video games too. Six Point Sweet Action on tap at $6 a pint. Wayne's World! Party Time! Joined a group of friends here last week for a few beers. Wow, a Packers bar in NYC. Must a cheesehead heaven during football season. Assorted Packers items around the bar along with a bunch of sports almanacs and books. They must take their football serious here. Small but good selection of beer on tap including Six Point at reasonable prices. Place is on the small side and I would guess it gets pretty crowded on weekends, but the night I was here had a smaller crowd milling about. It's kind of a warm and cozy atmosphere, and can be a bit frattish from the looks of some of the people drinking and playing darts. Seemed like a nice pub that I would go back to again if down in the west village and wanting to avoid the touristy and hectic bars along 7th Ave. read more

I discovered KoF on a bad date a couple of months ago. KoF was the only good thing that came from it. Not being eighteen or a NYU Student, they're not a lot of great or cheap dive bars in the West Village except Fat Cat. (FC being cheap, not great...) KoF is spacious and cozy. The crowd runs from 25+ On a weekday, you'll find a bunch of regulars that are usually old white men. They're funny and nice. One night I was there, and a fella brought out cheese puffs and pretzels for the bar. It was great. Since then, I've come back a bunch of times. There are two game cabinets and a couch in the back that has usually been empty the times I've gone. There's also a dart board in the back. Crowd on a friday tends to be nice as well. I've had randos watch my drink, and the crowd respects when you're moving to the bar/trying to get through. Self awareness in a bar's crowd is a heaven's send. Prices are dive standard. They don't accept Discover! The bartenders are cool and fast as well. It's not hard to get a drink. I left my phone barside once, and they quickly returned it to me. I would recommend this for anyone in the west village looking for an unpretentious but not crazy young people scene. 3.5/5 read more

I'm between a 4 and 5! Great dive bar - Stopped in on Halloween. We came during happy hour in the evening and had $5 and $7 beers. There's at least one TV and two pin ball machines! We were able to watch the parade, enjoy our beers, and use the restrooms. The only think that shocked me was paying $20 for two shots (fireball+rum chata). read more

Finally, I found a place deserving of my 100th review. Whew, it had been a while since I had written on Yelp. This is a unique little bar in the West Village. Filled with tacky decor from ceiling to floor, this place will keep your eye stimulated for a while. But, what really gives this place my 100th review, is the bartenders. Not only are they self-admitting assholes, they are entertaining and make fun of all the customers. Grab a stool at the bar, order a stiff moderately priced drink and keep yourself entertained for a while. Yes, yes, it's an NYU hangout and those little buggers are all over the place in the Village waxing dramatic like poseur roaches. Still, the bartenders have a heavy pour, are charmingly helpful as well as generously gracious. After only one round, we got a buy back. Perhaps the bartender could tell that we were there for the duration when I ordered a boilermaker. We threw down a few more rounds until it was officially time to go- we were already sliding off the bar stools and committed to seeking out the perfect pizza. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by kettle of fish while killing time for a later dinner reservation. It had been a few years since I had been here and upon my return, I was sad it had been that long. The owners were outside when we arrived and immediately pulled up a table and chairs for us and grabbed our round of drinks. Drinks here are incredibly reasonable and the hospitality and warmth shown by the owners is unmatched. They were both came over several times to check on us or for a quick chat. The famous biophoto of Jack Kerouac is on the wall here. He's wearing khakies and a button down (who knew) and the picture was apparently used in Gap ads (for khakis) in the 80's. The Gap edited his girlfriend, Joyce Johnson, out of the picture for their commercials but in this historic Greenwich Village tavern, you can see the original picture. The neon "BAR" sign behind Kerouac in the pic is also on display in the back of the bar. Other literary luminaries like Allen Ginsberg and some famous journalists also frequented this place back in the Beats' hay day. I like that you have to go down into the basement because it feels sort of secret and cozy. Have you heard of "Coney Island Lager?" I hadn't until I ordered one here. It's a dark ale, if you like that sort of thing. Wisconsinites have claimed "Kettle of FIsh" as their own bar, so it's the place to be when Milwaukee plays the Mets, etc. Literally, it seems like buses of people come by for these kinds of events. read more

very cool bar, been here a couple of times for happy hours. So, the fact that I didn't have to pay for drinks helped make my review all the more favorable. That being said it's a really cool hole in the wall, and there are great arcade games and couches in the back too. They're a packers bar though, so take that into consideration if you want to be there on a sunday, and if your a packers fan I can't imagine I more fun environment to go to! read more

Keep walking... wait run!!!! You're almost to the Stonewall Inn! Don't fall for this tiny trap nestled between two great bars (The Duplex and stonewall). We stopped here because it was early and they had just begun setting up outside seating, a tent, and a road closure around this area. After enjoying a few drinks we decided to order our last round; after doing so, a man came by to deliver the drinks (30 mins later) and notified us we had 5 minutes to drink them. Mind you, we also had a toddler with us. The other tables outside, maybe 3 total, were not made aware of this time constraint. We clearly had been there for quite some time, yet were the first to be told we had to leave? A football bar that was less than half full? Shocking, a bar in an area that is known to be accepting of everyone, tells a group with a baby they have to leave?? If you're looking for a place to hangout and have drinks, walk 10 more feet to The Stonewall Inn... it's iconic, friendly, and family oriented. Never in my life did I except to feel unwelcome in New York City. The Duplex or Stonewall will bring better service, experience, and a better representation of the people of NYC. read more

Kettle of Fish is a dive bar if I ever saw one! We found our way here to watch a Packer game and were surprised by the massive turnout of cheeseheads! Come to find out, fans line up hours before kickoff just to get a seat! We lucked out and ended up snagging some seats in the back room after being told all the bar seating was already reserved. They don't have a food menu (except for brats on the particular game day we were there), but they allow outside food to be brought in. The highlight was the free cheese, sausage and crackers that they brought to each table at halftime. read more

One of my favorite bars in NYC. The staff is always super friendly and the owners genuinely care about their regulars. My go-to place to grab a drink with friends and co-workers. They don't serve any food here as a heads up! (Unless it's a packers game, then they do have brats) You are free to bring your own in. The drinks are pretty cheap and always very tasty :) It is a packer bar, so if you are coming on Sundays be prepared! People start to line up to get in around an hour to 45 min before they open. The second best place to watch the packers outside of Lambeau!! I would recommend this bar to anyone in NYC! read more
