If you're a fan of bitters, Amor y Amargo's for you. This bar is a cozy East Village hideaway for cocktail enthusiasts who covet liquid gold and making memories. It's a find.

A classic! Amor y Amargo is simply one of the best bars in the world. While it is tiny, the cocktails are amazing and the service is great. Fun atmosphere as well.

My husband ordered the old fashioned and I ordered the double down. We ended up switching because we liked each other's drinks more! I prefer old fashioneds when they are less straight booze and my husband prefers straight booze. The place is super small but the bartender is very welcoming and helps find spaces for everyone. The drinks are good though slightly pricey ($18 a pop). They give free water and are a friendly cozy spot. Standing only so no reservations required.

This was a great cocktail bar. My daughter and I lucked out and got the last two seats at the bar as we walked in. It is a small place but very cozy and full of fun people. They were having a Halloween-themed evening, and we had the greatest time. They had a smoke machine going and low lighting. They were playing various Halloween and Heavy metal tunes which made for the perfect Halloween spirit. I have never seen a larger collection of bitters and Amaro in one place. I am a cocktail fan, to say the least, but This took the cake. There was so much to try, but I drank their spin on a French 75 all evening. It was SO GOOD! It was also served in an awesome Halloween-themed glass. I will be back for certain...you should go here and have a drink or ten. The bartenders here are Masters of their craft.

Came here to get a drink before our reservations and ended up canceling them because this place was so good!! Bartender was very knowledgeable about all the different spirits and bitters, and made AMAZING drinks for us. The interior was dark and moody, perfect for a date night.

Overall rating: 4.8 This is already a clearly popular place, so don't need to say much. Even just being in a standing room, the server was so nice! When a spot cleared up, he shuffled us towards a standing area with a bar-like table. I only got one drink and it was delicious! Seems like a great pre-game spot if I'm going out in the area. It was getting too crowded for me around 9:30pm bc I'm an oldie so I just got one drink. But I liked the vibe!

Cute and casual spot, happy to see that they take over the corner spot and expand! The front area is now a shop of their bitters!

Calabrian Nights- Vecchio de Capo, Cocchi Rosa, Dry Vermouth, Alpino Bitters, and Seltzer. Very tasty light cocktail.

Bias note: My favorite alcohol happens to be amaro and this place specializes in amaro (and/or bitters as per the name.) For those unaware, this wonderful Italian liqueur has a wide variety of flavors depending on what botanicals and spices are used. They tend to be bitter or a mix of bitter and sweet outside of a few amari on the more sweeter end with my preference being Nonino, Montenegro, and Majora. I have been to this cocktail bar a couple of times but I don't really remember much from the first couple times so my review is only for the most recent experience. As I was going here prior to going to a dinner, I went with a less alcoholic drink. One of the seasonal cocktails was the Calabrian Nights with Vecchio de Capo, Cocchi Rosa, Dry Vermouth, Alpino Bitters, and Seltzer and it was 12% APV instead of the usual 21/27%. They described the flavors as birch, nutmeg, and amarena (or sour) cherry. There was a slight sourness as well as a good amount of bitterness and I found the cocktail to be refreshing. Very tasty. Nice conversation with the bartender also. Good spot. Will go back.

This place is a bitters bar, there's no doubt about it. The name of the place even stands for "Love and Bitter". It's an intimate space with a cool vibe with bar seating and some standing areas. They advertise themselves as a bitters tasting room and all their drinks have some bitter component in them. My first drink was the sharpie mustache ($17) which was stiff but balanced and good. The tiki bitters came out to give it the island vibe. My second drink was the arms full of flowers ($17) which was bright and a little fruity. It was dry and an interesting drink. If you're not a fan of bitter drinks, you might not like this place. However, if you're an adventurous drinker who wants to see if you might like bitter drinks, this is the perfect place to get an introduction and get eased into them. I would highly recommend it though because it's a wonderful world and the drinks are great. This place is close to many other iconic New York bars and would be a great place to add to your itinerary for a night out of bar-hopping.

High quality bar with a vast selection of bitters! My friends and I stumbled upon this speakeasy-type bar on a bustling Saturday night. I ordered their negroni and it definitely packed a punch. At $17/cocktail, honestly I'm glad it was as potent as it was for the price tag. I'm not usually one to try strong cocktails that don't have much sweetness to them, so I may or may not stop by next time I'm in town.

And because I was looking forward to fondue that day, we decided to go with the regular menu. The base fondue was $24/pp which I think was really reasonable. I can eat the cheese all day) The fondue was served in a cast iron pot and you get baguette for the dipping. You can pay more for additional add ons but we decided to just stick with the baguette. ~ Two Skewers Plate (Kofte Colorado lamb, herbs, spices & Chicken yogurt, red pepper, herbs, spices) Served with house-made harissa and tzatziki, and a choice of mushroom bulgur or squash caponata. ( We were informed if you don't like olives go with the mushroom bulgur, which we did). Initially I was worried the chicken skewers would be too dry ( as that is the case for a lot of places) but no, the chicken wasn't dry and it was well seasoned. I'm happy that I went. It's a cute little date spot to do fondue.

The hamachi crudo was excellent, with a unique coconut and mango sauce that gave it a touch of sweet to go with the zest. And the pulpo was great, the octopus was well prepared and the sauce was hearty without dominating the taste. The half chicken was the most memorable dish; our server recommended it, and it's clear why. It was unbelievably juicy and tender, with plenty of lemon flavor in every bite. The ambiance feels straight of the golden age, which is an aesthetic I'm certainly a sucker for. Even their robust cocktail menu fits the bill and is one of the prettiest menus I've ever had the joy of perusing. Staff was able to sit us a little bit ahead of our reservation which was also much appreciated. Wait staff was also very helpful and attentive, I don't think I've ever had my water glass so topped off! Starting off with cocktails, this place is a gin bar through and through and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one of their many options. I went with the 10,000 words, which you simply just give a spirit of your choice (I picked gin of course) and whether you antes) wanted your drink shaken or stirred and the bartender does the rest, so a bit of a surprise! I wound up with their version of The Last Word which was delightfully citrusy but I was hoping I'd wind up with something a little more adventurous app things considered. My girlfriend got the blackberry G&T, which was not only very pleasing to look at but delicious to boot. For food, we started with splitting some zucchini blossoms and beef cheek bao buns (both come in portions of 3). Both were tasty, but I love a good bao bun and these were so light and pillowy, I could have just went for an order of those for my main course. For the entree I went for the roasted half chicken, perhaps the most unassuming choice on the menu but this was maybe the best roast chicken I've ever had. Prepared perfectly, cooked to perfection, excellent portion size, and the kicker of it all was the stunning gravy that I was tempted to lick my plate for. Chicken is very easy to screw up, and they nailed it on all fronts here. My girlfriend went for the Valerie Signature burger with white cheddar and this thing did not mess around! A very rich patty, cooked to her temperature of choice served alongside some garlic truffle fries that made an American classic feel just a little more elevated. Our experience was delightful and I'd love to comeback here again, especially to check out more of the cocktail menu and soak in more of that golden age aura the place gives.
