I needed vent covers replaced on the back of the house, a friend was supposed to do it, he kept not showing up. I didn't want a small problem to become a large one, I couldn't fix it myself, so on the recommendation to use Mr. Handyman on Larkfield Road in East Northport I called them. Cassandra and Anita, the two young ladies who run the office, take the phone calls, were very helpful. They were friendly, they were professional. They took my situation seriously and got somebody out here as soon as possible. You get notification that the technician is on his way with a picture of him and his name so you know exactly what to expect Jim C. was the technician assigned to my home to do the job. He was very friendly. He was helpful, he explained things which put me at ease regarding my problem. The whole process was fast, easy & efficient. I'm very pleased. This was hands down the worst experience I have had with a company like this. The guy they sent over didn't do the job right at all. Then they tried to blame it on me, and gaslight me that the before pictures showed "exposed wiring" when they clearly didn't. Then in the process of coming back to "fix" the job I was told he was going to leave my property to get a part and Come back later. No. Instead he pretended to leave, and when I went back into my house, snuck back and did unauthorized work. I also had to tell the guy to stop touching me repeatedly. The owner of the company said to me clearly that he thinks it's just fine and dandy for his employees to be touching customers. And I'm a man. I wouldn't let this guy in my house if I was a woman with that attitude. His "manager" also thinks it's ok to bully customers in the phone and mock disabilities. Mainly giving this company 2 stars for two reasons: they charged me 80 dollars just to come give me an estimate... which they put in fine print and charge at the end, so it feels very sneaky and dishonest. And also why am I paying someone to come see a job and talk about paying them more? And secondly, they quoted me 16,600 to build a 6ft wall and doorway in my (finished) basement, and hang 4 doors (which they decided they wanted to make smaller and take apart in a pretty much finish basement.... Which is pretty obscene. I've done a lot of work in past so it's pretty high up there. Would've given zero stars if I could, but one star would only be for the gentleman who showed up (and just works for the company and doing his job) was very nice and personable and also seemed knowledgeable. And I'm sure he is not the one making this huge upcharges in work. But overall I wouldn't recommend and also felt it was weird and sneaky to charge me after the estimate 80 dollars to come to my house to talk about the job. The company should be paying their workers for their time, or have them disclose and ask for the payment when they arrive so I could have the opportunity to decline. I would give less stars if I could. The rip off of this company is beyond comprehension. I just paid them $700 to do a bunch of odd jobs which included mounting 3 tvs to the wall. After the jobs are done the handyman says he is done. I ask why the tvs aren't mounted on the wall and he tells me it wasn't included in our price. WHAT????? $700 for a few door locks and dressers mounted to the wall. Do yourself a favor and run from this company. This is criminal what they just did to my family. Zero stars if possible. They bait you in by not telling you clearly how much it costs or what will get done. Afterwards I was told it was going to be $1550 to have the tv mounted as well. They had my review taken down so I have to repost. Poor work and SHADY business practices! Please do yourself a favor and find an independent handyman who needs to take pride in their work. I could write 20 pages but no one would read it. Some highlights: Much more expensive than other options Quoted as a 3 day job- finished in 1.5 with barely any reduction to estimate Did not clean up after the job (threw so much debris in our bathroom we could not enter to use toilet; left bags of trash in our walkway; left nails on our bed/pillows; so much dust and debris it was hard to breathe). Terrible workmanship- they left a giant gap between the floor and molding because they only "had" smaller molding and did not make any effort to use molding that matched the previously installed molding, then after I pointed out the issue in one area, continued to do the exact same thing in another and blamed the flooring. After the job, I told them I need to speak with someone before I paid for the molding (I told them I was happy to pay for the other services) because the job wasn't done properly and I either needed it fixed or deducted from the cost. The handyman left the house to call "the office" and they had someone call my wife and asked her to pay in hopes she was not aware of the poor job. Luckily I had already called her and she told them the same thing I did. Rather than fix the issue, they tried to take advantage of my wife who wasn't there. Despicable way to run a business. They eventually came back and added some additional quarter rounds to the molding to cover the gaps. It is far from ideal and not what I wanted, but it was enough for me to reluctantly pay them. I am surprised to read negative reviews as my experience has been consistently positive. Response time has been great, quality of work has been great, and as a result, I have had multiple occasions,to have Greg return for additional jobs. I recommend for assorted oddjobs but also construction related jobs, such as installation of my vinyl, plank floor, spackling, and painting, and minor electrical work. read more

The single most expensive way to fix my problem! I feel completely taken advantage of. In a vulnerable position with a stuck door causing a fire hazard. Yet, the work was thoroughly completed with excellence by a Master carpenter. I would NEVER use the company again. read more

I requested rotted boards on deck that insurance marked to be replaced. I was told 100 linear feet was replaced. It's about 20 ft short. I paid 200 for materials. 1200 for labor. I would feel better if someone told me that I paid a fair price. read more

when I called you guys, it was the handle on the shower. I explained it was off because the contractor employee did not put it on correctly. I called your business to fix that only then I asked the lady do they do tile work she says yes so I said while he's fixing the shower handle, can he give me two estimates for two bathrooms because the guy messed up the tile work!! when I called on Wednesday, I spoke Azul. I told her I did not want the same guy out if he could not fix the shower handle the proper way it was not supposed to be a temporary if he could not fix it then I would've hired someone else to do the job the correct !! so today I received a call from your office with the other secretary, yelling her brains out about leaving a review. She was very highly pissed off and I had to speak louder so she can hear what I had to say. I was not hostile. Good day to anyone looking up reviews. The short version is very expensive and unethical... Now the long version. My wife hired mr handyman for 2 interior doors. One was swapped out with door on hand the other was a no frills 60 dollar home depot door... My wife told me she was quoted 400 dollars at the end of the job the labor alone was 720 dollars... when I called because I saw this bill on my cc I was told my wife agreed to this absurd price she said she did not and was given a 400 dollar estimate. I requested proof of recipt they said she signed before work still not received. The swapped door jam had to be moved but other than than no extra labor. The basement door was not trimed or even doorknob put on. We did not request this but just trying to be clear of work done. All said and done hey presented my wife with the bill at end oof job and she paid. Unfortunately I was at work during this unethical transaction. I will be at more work doing overtime to pay off for this as well. Since I do not get paid 200hr like mr handyman... The floor was scratched up upstairs but does scratch easy as is bamboo and can not be certain that it was from them but I would say it is an excellent chance it was. I am waiting to see proof my wife agreed to 720 dollars labor beforehand which the owner claims. I feel they took advantage of my wife being home aline w the kids. Not sure what honest person would say labor for 2 interior doors cost 720 dollars.....so future customers beware of this buisness. I see they have many reviews so maybe not common practice to double estimates and over charge but unfortunately for us we were not so lucky.... sorry about any misspellings I can not go back to edit for some reason. I called for estimate on several (6) sections of stockade fence. Had already had couple people come for free estimates. Mike showed up, I tried explaining couple posts (3) needed replacing too. As a second job , I mentioned I had post and rail sections of rails that might need replacing. He presented an iPad type device that mentioned 20.00 fee, I signed as he said was cost for estimate. I didn't really like fact I was being charged for estimates that are usually free. But I signed. At end of me explaining what needed to be done, he asked to sign blank iPad again. I asked why and he said if I decided to hire them, I'd get 200.00 off his estimate. He then said replacing 6 sections of stockade and 3 posts would take 2 guys, 2 days to replace. I asked about the price for fence and posts. I know that contractors get discounts at lumber yards etc. he told me that I'm better off getting fencing myself!!! As it would be more expensive to get it from them. When I got estimate, it was 2000.00 plus for stockade that I needed to buy. I didn't call them back because I had fence installed for 500.00. Next shock was I got credit card bill for 220.00 !!! I don't know how they actually got my credit card number, but I guess my signature for estimate was used to verify I agreed to hire them? I guess getting them from Angi.com was way they got credit card number. Be very careful of calling them for estimate. Looks like they are making more money charging for estimates, and price they charged was so uncompetitive. They get more for estimates. Definitely a scam!!!! read more

I gave the owner several opportunities to make things right before posting this review. Be aware of what you are getting with this Mr. handyman franchise location. It is a small shop that is way over-priced for the (lack of) service it provides. The simple job I had of replacing some door knobs and adjusting a couple of doors was a disaster - and cost over $660. Guess I should have known better but I really needed someone quick. The brand claims to stand behind its work and make right what they did wrong - but the owner of this franchise couldn't be bothered. The person they sent was nice so I am not blaming him. The owner is just looking to make money from the job and move on, regardless of what goes wrong. he does not care about repeat customers so I don't know how long this franchise will last. PS notice the owner's response below. What an epic attempt at gas lighting! If it was a parts issue wouldn't the handyman recognize that and know not to install the alleged faulty doorknobs? Nice try. What an insult to our intelligence to say it was parts without even speaking to me because the owner couldn't be bothered. My son's 14 year old friend fortunately fixed the mistakes made by the guy that was sent. The parts were fine, the Installation (which came to $300 an hour for 'labor') was faulty but the owner doesn't care and did not reach out to me at all, just hid behind his customer service rep. Lower end of the estimate that is actually funny. I would like to see the owner try to charge me over $800 for 2 hours of work. Does he think he is a brain surgeon or something with those rates! I used Mr. Handyman of Huntington for the first time in June '21 to remove a pedestal sink and replace it with a vanity. From the very first phone call to get a quote and schedule, I was treated like a valued, long-time customer. I was able to schedule the service about two weeks out, and they sent handyman John to complete the service. John was prompt, friendly, communicative and showed me exactly what he was going to do. He also informed me that he would need to run to Home Depot to get additional material and asked my permission to do so as the material costs would have be added to the bill. I ordered the "Full Day" service which is a flat rate, and would allow for multiple small projects to be completed within an 8 hour timeframe. John finished ahead of schedule and was able to also tackle an issue we were having in our bathroom in the finished basement. At the end of the day, even with added material cost, we came in under quote, and the bathrooms were cleaned up nicely. When I had an unrelated plumbing issue recently, they would have been unable to come out for at least a week, so instead of trying to convince me to wait it out, they immediately referred me to local contractors in the area. Within 2 hours of calling Mr. Handyman, my plumbing issue was resolved as a result of their help and referral. I will definitely be using Mr. Handyman for future projects at our house. Mr. Handyman of Huntington & Smithtown provided quick service when we experienced water damage on our newly installed floors after a big storm. They ripped up the old flooring and reinstalled new flooring; which looked better than original job. The job was not only done quickly, but was also very clean and detailed. Installed a new front exterior door. Michael was a professional and very thorough. Although branded as a handyman the job and care was not a handyman and more like a true career professional. Any extra cost and parts were clearly explained why it was needed before purchasing. Area was cleaned up after installation.
