Dealing with Mr. Hardwood was the single worst home improvement experience I've ever had. It was a disaster from the start and I am furious. I feel cheated financially, and almost as bad, they left our house a wreck. 1) Rob Girard, the owner, visited our home and took measurements, then gave a quote of $2,600. He then was "nice" and said he'd do it for $2,500. We offered him the job and his team started a few days later. He then asked for a partial payment for the $3,700 job. What? He said $2,500. So we spoke on the phone and he said that the $2,500 was for the sanding, if we wanted the floors to be finished that would be extra. Who solely wants their floors sanded? And we had even spoken about the specific stain we had chosen and that we wanted a matte finish. He said fine, but made no comment about the extra cost to stain. So we discovered the extra charge after he had completed the sanding. We couldn't very easily have another company come in immediately to complete the job. So we had him do the stain as well, accepting the extra charge we were never told about. 2) We discovered when the guys were almost done, that they were using a semi-gloss finish, rather than the matte we had specifically requested. Rob responded by saying "I didn't think you were going to like the matte, so I went with the semi-gloss instead." He deliberately changed our order without even notifying us. We just happened to visit the house and saw how shiny the floors were. What professional second-guesses their client without even a discussion? 3) Their website advertises "our clean sanding process is 99% dust free, leaving your home healthy. The no mess sanding will leave your home clean and beautiful." NO MESS? Are you kidding me? I don't believe his guys even used plastic protective coating over anything but the refrigerator. The dust was EVERYWHERE. And I don't mean a little dust. I mean a thick coating on every surface of the entire home, even downstairs. Our freshly-painted walls were filthy with dust and needed to be cleaned. We spent 6 man hours on a Sunday of a holiday weekend to clean up after his employees. Every surface needed to be cleaned, right up to the ceiling. 4) When we complained about the shoddy job, Rob insisted on meeting us to discuss the matter. Like we would even consider wasting more of our time on this guy. He finally sent an email saying the "misunderstanding" was our fault and that if we didn't pay him $900 more than he quoted, he would pursue legal action against us. 5) We should have seen the enormous red-flag that he was not a professional when we never received a quote in writing, never had a document where we had to approve the stain color and finish, and never even got our front door key back. We now have to change the lock on our house because there's another key floating around. And who would trust this guy with their house key? I wouldn't trust him with my house plants! read more

This is our 2nd time with Rob and his crew. For our 1st go around, they refinished our flooring in our Woodbridge, CT home 4 years ago and they did a superb job. The floors look amazing, they were neat, clean and we are 100% satisfied. Misery. Mr. Hardwood so unable to make things right. We asked if we should tape the the baseboards but he said not to worry. They did such a poor job the first time, with marks from the machines clearly visible, that they sanded a second time. It was worse. There was stain all over the baseboards, and handprints on the walls and doors. They ran the sander into the woodwork so we have more than painting to do to make it right. One day they left the front door open. Another day, no one showed up. Mr. Hardwood was clearly preoccupied with personal issues and finally stopped returning calls. Rob did a fine job for us on 2 rental units. Work was done on time, at the quoted cost and it looks great. What else could you ask for?

Workers were extremely sloppy and got floor stain all over our baseboards, which has turned into days and days of unwanted painting for us. Mr. Hardwood also does not listen well. He didn't execute our contract as written and nearly refused to make up for it until I pressed back much harder than I should have had to. read more

This company is owned by Robert (Rob )Girard. While he'll "yes" you to death, his work is sloppy and not acceptable. His workers (family members, nephews, etc) will leave your home a complete mess and the work performed will cause you great angst. I have over 57 pictures i can send you of the work he did not complete and pictures of the work this company is capable of performing. It's not worth it, i had to have my floors re-finished by another company. Save yourself the aggravation, ask around and review my pictures, you won't believe it. Mr. Hardwood was highly recommended to me by a mutual friend and a member of the Tadeusz Kosciuszko Society (K-Club located in Rockfall). I had reservations due to the fact that the reviews I read were for residential work and not commercial. This was a big undertaking due to the fact that this floor hadn't been tended to for over 20 years. We had deep scratches and stains throughout the entire area. The job consisted of a foyer, coat closet, hall and stage area. Keep in mind that this a very large hall which accommodates 125 people. The guys worked long and hard and even came on a Saturday to complete the job in a timely fashion. There was a slight hiccup and the floor needed another coat which was immediately remedied. I don't even know where to start. All I wanted was a simple task to re sand my floors. They look worse than they were before. The color is uneven, I have huge cracks, not sealed properly, hair and debris stuck on the wood floors. I had two young kids here that Mr.Hardwood (his name his Rob Girard ) sent over to do the job. First time they did it, the floors felt like sand paper. They tried to fix it but now I'm stuck with nasty cracks. When I tried calling and texting him about the huge crack. He never responded. I found his page on Facebook and decided to leave my review. All of a sudden I got his attention and he said I wasn't in his database. It's unreal. I can't believe he just can't take the responsibility for the horrible job they did. All he had to do was fix the problem. But rather he blamed it on everything else. I had others look at it and said that they did a bad job. PLEASE NEVER use him! He is also pricey. read more

I have held off on writing a review because I am not usually that type of person but with it staying on my mind for a couple months I had to let it out. Rob refinished my floors ( actually his sloppy workers refinished my floors) the week of October 19 2015. Let's just say Rob is a great salesman and sold his company to me very well. I told him upfront I was an extremely picky person and there were a few things I did NOT want to see when the job was done. He reassured me that everything was going to be perfect and if it wasn't he would make sure it ened up perfect. Well first his crew did not show up on time so that forced them to stay late that night so when I drove by my house that night (cause we had to stay somewhere else for 4 days) his crew was gone and my house was lite up like it was Christmas, every single light was left on in my house and my back door was left u locked. The second night the same thing every light left on and my front door left unlocked. When the floors were finished and able for me to walk on I noticed several spots that weren't coated fully along with several spots that were globbed with polyurethane. Called Rob right away and he did send his guys over. They took care of the spots but when I got back home to inspect I noticed there were several spots of hair and sand that were coated over with polyurethane. I was not happy so I called Rob again and he told me his guys did another entire coat over my downstairs floors because there was to much to repair so he made me feel like he went above and beyond to fix it but if he was actually on the job he would have noticed that his sloppy workers never vacuumed the floors before they did that "extra FREE" coat and coated hair and dirt into my floors. Also every spindle on my staircase was damaged at the bottom. Rob lied to me saying everything was going to be perfect especially after I had told him I was extremely picky you would think he would have been on the job to make sure is sloppy workers got everything perfect. Lastly the thing that finally pushed me over the edge to write this review was I had personal things in my master bathroom. His workers didn't need to be in there because there were not floors to be refinished and found the bathroom door closed which I thought was odd and noticed some of my personal things were no longer there. I would definitely not recommend Mr. Hardwood and feel like I made a $3200 mistake read more
