I thought I'd give them a Klean slate, but it didn't work out. The machine here ate $20 of my money. It says that if I want my money back, to jump through this hoop, and that, and the other. It was a convoluted process and I'm quite sure that they count upon you deciding that jumping through all the hoops is not worth $20 of your time. If you do jump through the hoops, they call you a liar and basically ask you to prove that you lost $20. Very typical scam behaviour. Holy crap, well I guess I am officially old. I have become that guy that complains about pricing. I remember in collage laundry was .50 cents a load to wash. 10 years ago it was $1.25 a load. During the last hurricane it was $2.00 a load. Well not anymore, that's right it's $3.75 a load. $3.75!!!!! There is a digital readout on the machine telling you how many coins you have to put in. It's 15 quarters by the way and on every quarter you put in you murmur WTF under your breath. Don't purchase your detergent here, I mean you will need a second mortgage. Now on the up side, the lady behind the counter keeps the place real clean. Has all her teeth. There is no weird smell. People watching is not real fun as the place is empty. There is a real nice plastic tree above our bank of washers. What i assume is the owner/manager stands outside with a serious look on his face and discourages the drunks/crack addicts from entering. So yes it's an ok place but $3.75 for a wash load? I am thinking its freaking magic water from some glacier in the Alps that is going into these machines. I have not even seen what the dryer is going to cost. I am honestly afraid to venture over there as I will go into some sort of laundromat rant and be that guy on the security camera. So I am off to find more quarters. At least there is a taco truck in front of the place. There is a Ms. PacMan inside but it doesn't work and besides, it would prolly be 18 quarters to play it anyway. Yes, my awesome wife is laughing her a$$ off at me right now. User friendly place and very smooth experience a majority of the time. I have a w/d at home but I like to take some bulky bedding here since they have extra large machines. I have found it's best not to go close to the cutoff time; depending on who is working may or may not be nice. One time I arrived a few minutes before cutoff time and went inside first before bringing in laundry (maybe to get change made), then when I went outside to retrieve my laundry and the employee locked the door! I was able to get her to open the door and she said it was too late so I told her I was there before cutoff time. I told her I would only wash and not dry so she reluctantly let me in. This was the only negative experience I've had in all the years I've been going here so I avoid going later now. Otherwise a great place! read more

My experience today has totally altered my view of this place and has me questioning if I will return. So I have been coming to Mr. Kleen for about a year and have been satisfied. I weekly stop in to do my laundry and have in occasion used their drop off laundry service. I was happy I had found a place that was clean, had an attendant, enough room to move around on a busy weekend and decent cost for machines. Today, I arrived to many machines being out of order, that is rare here and very disappointing. Later during my laundry duties I went to the front desk for the bathroom key. I did not find out until I was at the sink to wash my hands that IF you want soap you need ask for it, at the front desk. IF?!!! Hello! Let's promote good hygiene here please. I was very upset that I had to now touch everything with dirty hands, bathroom business dirty hands to go to the front desk for soap. The attendant, who did jot give me the key I think it was the owner who originally gave me the key, pumped soap into my hand. I was then forced to walk back to the bathroom ever so carefully carrying the pool of liquid soap in my hand. Absolutely obserd and belittling to paying customers! He soap was not even expensive stuff, it was a pump bottle of Softsoap, you know 99 cent stuff! read more

I don''t have a garbage disposal and although I feed most of the table scraps to my dogs, there are some (spagetti-o's come to mind) that end up down the drain. Sadly, this has lead to me having clogged my sink drain. The sink drain and the Washing machine drain are in the same pipe. Ergo, when my sink clogged, the clothes that were in the laundry got icky, yucky food/sink mess on them. Plus, I hadn't done laundry in 8 days and with a family of four, it might as well have been 8 years. I had 6 large loads of laundry that had to be done or I would be stuck "free ballin". So, for the first time in 15 years or so, I headed off to the laundromat. Not much has changed in the glamorous world of public clothes washing. I still managed to drop more than one pair of drawers on the ground in front of strangers. I still am grossed out by the thought of having my delicates washing right after someone else's delicates were just in the same washer. There are still random, less than savory, folks hanging about. But, I think thanks to it's primo Montrose location, I did have the pleasure is slyly spying on a really cute hipster-looking boy folding his undies. Specifically, Mr. Kleen, is average I guess. At least by 1993 standards. It does have air-conditioning. That's a plus. But, the a/c vents are all mildewy looking. The floor is VERY dirty. It is well swept, but may have been moped in 1993. I know this because my 2 year-old decided to use some of my clean (freshly folded) clothes as a mop. He could have mopped the garage floor and the shirts would have come out looking cleaner than they looked after he got done. The bottom of the soda machine (quarters only please, we wouldn't want you to buy 10 sodas at $0.50 a piece to get $5.00 worth of quarters by using dollar bills) is very dirty at the base. There is a candy machine that looks like an old cigarette machine and has no candy in it. There are white plastic "garden" chairs that have been screwed into some wood base in order to curb thievery I think; that or compulsive rearranging. The standard washers are $1.50 and they may be the smallest basined washers I have ever seen. The large heavy duty capacity washer is $3.50. It also was small in my opinion. The dryers are $0.25 each, but that only gets you about 6 minutes or so, so you have to keep feeding it quarters it repetitively. I saw one mysterious, cockroach sized bug scurry across the floor. Why does going to wash your clothes have to be such a dingy experience? Are there are clean and tidy washaterias in town? These questions will not be answered by me as I expect to be able to wash my clothes at home again within a few days. Hallelujah! I don't think I've ever been excited before about the thought of doing laundry, home or otherwise. plus one star for having A/C plus one star for not being approached by any bums minus one star for not having a toilet for paying customers minus one star for filthy floors minus one star for weird dryers that only dry for a couple of minutes read more

There is nothing more depressing than a laundromat. Mr. Klean is no exception. For one year, and one year only, I lived in a place without a working washer and dryer. It sucked big time, but Mr. Klean was right around the corner, so it was our most convenient option. There were several things frustrating about this laundromat. The staff that works there aren't helpful at all. They are rude when you come in even close to their last load time at 8:30. Many times, machines would be broken. It also seemed to be overpriced. To make doing laundry more bearable, we would always put in our loads, set a timer and head across the street for beers. read more

Overall poor customer service. Not friendly. Not helpful. Unreliable machines. During my most recent trip the dryer I was using overheated. It was EXTREMELY hot when the cycle finished. I've been going to this location for at least 3 years now and I must say I like it very much. I used to live on that side of town, now I live outside the loop to the west and still go there. Price is right, machines are working and staff is friendly. The one thing I must admit is the over priced detergent prices but oh well, if you don't like their prices simply bring your own. Management keeps place clean. A/C comfort is okay. Drop off service is brisk. Washing machines are okay. DRYERS ARE A PROBLEM! Several do not dry hot enough. Lots of " out of order " signs on dryers. Today, just got home from Mr Klean Washateria. Not a good report. I loaded three washing machines, and had to unload two because they did not work (tip: don't put your money and soap in unless there is a light on where the machine counts the quarters) because it takes an act of Congress to get a refund. As was the case three weeks ago, there was NO HOT WATER to the washing machines for wash and rinse. Two of the three dryers I used were not drying properly and that took more quarters. Also, the air conditioning was not on so it was uncomfortably warm. I told the "manager" about the NO HOT WATER and got absolutely no response from him.. read more

THIS PLACE SUCKS! We went to wash yesterday 4/26/2010 It was about the evening time and it was hot. It was cooler outside than inside. They had the air on one side (by the dropoff counter) but still warm...even the lady attendant went outside a couple times. The machines were ridiculously small. The regular top loaders were cut in half in size for $1.50 then the dryers didn't dry well so we had to keep adding quarters that lasted about 5 min. I'd say there was 9 front loaders and 11 top load washers. very boring as there is no TV to pass the time. Two regular arcade games Pacman and Street fighter. About 8 seats to sit down. About 6 rolling baskets. Very dirty....and a little bit of a funny smell. This place was too small, too hot, too cramped, too boring,too dirty. I read the reviews on Google first before going...but these reviews exclaiming best intown are complete BULLSH*T. My 4 yr old was sweating. Such a suprise for the lack of upkeep for this place considering the busy intersection and beautiful surrounding stores. I don't have to use coin operated laundry often but I have been grateful to find this one. I researched and people liked this one the most. Our fourth, and last, time at Mr.Klean.... We came to our washer to unload and the lady next to us asked if we were done with our machine. We told her yes, then she mentioned that another gentleman had been there and pulled a couple of things out and told her he was not done with the machine. Naturally, we ask the attendant if we or they can review the tapes. The attendant tells us she does not have access to them but she would call the owner, and did. His response? It's not his responsibility so he won't review them. Mr. Hahn (owner): we are not trying to make you responsible for our clothes, just want peace of mind... What's the point of the cameras then? DO NOT GO HERE!!! Brought my white comforter in today to use the oversized washing machine unbeknownst to me that the previous user had washed crayons in the machine. My one-week only Nordstrom comforter is ruined with bright colored streaks and the employees/owner would do nothing about it other than claim "we don't wash the insides in the machines". My new hipster pad, with the great location, and all bills paid does not have a washer and dryer. They do have a couple of washers but for some reason are ALWAYS taken. Anyway, I decided to wonder over to Mr. Klean after seeing the bright lights one evening while I was getting a taco at West Alabama Ice House. It's cleaner than most laundry mats which isn't saying much, and newer. They have a coke machine and two arcade games, with a small tv with bunny ears. They have quarter machines. I went over to the window with the woman who was working there, and asked if I could buy some detergent and dryer sheets (total would have been around $10) and she looked miserable, like her dog has just died. I pulled out my cc, and she goes OH NO we don't take credit cards!--I replied, wow, even though this sticker here with the various cc emblems says you do? She just shrugged her shoulders and walked off. Now mind you, if my yoga pants hadn't started taking a life of their own, I would have taken my clothes elsewhere, but instead I was forced to go next door to the Hollywood store and grab some detergent. ZERO STARS* Let me first start by saying I have never EVER written a review of a business in my life and i have been pretty dis-satisfied with a few places in my life, but this place set me over the edge. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT....THIS PLACE is NOT open until 10:00, nor is the "last load at 9:00. After researching washaterias I decided at 7:30 pm that this would be my best choice. I loaded up my car and headed that way. I arrived at exactly 8:18 pm (42 minutes before "last load") thinking I had PLENTY of time. After unloading two laundry bags the lady comes running to the door to tell me they were closed and pointed to a homemade sign on the door that says last load 8:30 pm. The internet says 9:00, the door said 8:30, but either way it was 8:18......I said that the website says they are open until 10 and she said no, we are closed. I stood there in disbelief for about 2 minutes, unsure if it was because she was so rude or of how this place operates. She came back to the door basically to look at me crazy for still standing there and I asked her politely when the owner would be in and she replied "I don't know" and shut the door in my face. I assured her I would make several trips back until I was able to talk to the owner and she said "uuuggh FINE, FINE, JUST COME IN." Knowing I would have to travel pretty far to the 24 hour laundromat on chimney rock(which is AWESOME), I told her absolutely not. I wouldn't give that place a penny, not if it's going towards her paycheck. I work in retail and I know how petty and ridiculous people's complaints can be, that's why I've never actually filed one. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!I just left this place and normally do my homework online before going to a new business but didn't this time which I regret. I spent over $20.00 first off which would have been return business. I put a $1.00 in 4 dryers and after 5 min or so I put my hand on the dryers to see if all were hot and clearly one was not. I stopped the dryer, went to the front to tell the empoyee of the problem. In a rude voice she said, "I'm busy, I'll be there in a minute". I returned to the dryer, unloaded clothes into another dryer and put 4 quarters in that dryer. She came looked at the dryer, saw it was not working, saw almost 20 min left on the dryer. Here's the kicker..She said she could not give my money back because she told me she was busy and would be there in a minute and was my choice to put more money in another dryer. She claimed she can only put quarters directly into the dryer and not hand my money back. Really?? She gave no instructions to not not use another dryer and a reason why. I asked her for the owner contact info which she refused, but said she would call him/her. I don't believe she did but was "supposedly" talking to the owner and hung up saying the owner would not give money back. The woman refused to put a sign on the broken dryer as well and a customer I was in conversation with over the matter told me she had told her of two washers that didn't work and the woman replied, "I had signs on them before and someone took them off, so I'm not dealing with it." What would have been repeat business has stopped for me and the woman I talked to while doing laundry. One dollar and an attitude cost this business 2 customers never to come back and maybe more that heard us talking and knew what happened. Lint tray needs to be cleaned daily NOT weekly. Went back after owners response and same problems still exist. One washer ran an entire cycle without water...was told hot water is slow to fill. Yet washer next to it filled with no problem on 1st cycle. Floors and windows still dirty, don't drop anything clean or you will need to wash again. Just too hit or miss for my taste. Love their Drop-off Service ! Saves me time and money. Occasionally I use the Large capacity washers (5 Loads) and get all my clothes exceptionally clean. Could not find these machines anywhere in the West Alabama, Richmond, Westheimer, or the Monstrose area. I am in the Memorial area and love to visit and go across to the West Alabama ICE HOUSE.
