Absolutely recommend this shop!! I have a few tattoos from shops around San Antonio, and did so much research around different shops when my husband decided to get his first tattoo ( at 46). Mr Lucky's was overwhelmingly the shop recommended when I reached out on Reddit and man they weren't kidding- super laid back chill atmosphere but with quality workmanship! My husband got a wedding band tattoo-with 7 letters- which he drew up. Rosendo made it a stencil, shaved inked and had it wrapped in less than 10 minutes! More than anything we just spent most of our time talking and getting to know him- a really awesome guy. I didn't meet but one other artist there briefly but everything was really cool and I can't recommend it enough!!

I just want to warn everyone that the minimum rate for the tattoos are $100 and the artist did not let us know this and took advantage of how excited we were to get matching sibling tattoos. This was $240 for both!!!!!!! They are very simple and small. I'll make sure to tell all my regulars at the bar I work at to stay far away from this place!!!!

Both my husband and daughter got their tattoos done here. They took advantage of the tattoo of the month special on their first visit to this place. Weldon had done both of their tattoos--it was my daughter's third tattoo and my husband's second tattoo. He had done such a great job, they both returned for their next tattoos, and I tagged along. It turned out to be Weldon's day off, but the guys who were there helped us out. Philly had drawn up a tattoo based on the conversation with my husband, while we waited for our daughter. After approving the drawing (and since we were walk-ins) my husband scheduled an appointment later on in the week. The appointment went well and Philly was a trooper, as he stayed way past closing in order to finish the job. This wasn't part of the monthly special, so we paid a little more for this one. Rosendo had done my daughter's tattoo and did a fantastic job. Although it was her fourth tattoo (second from this shop), he walked me through her process. It was the main reason I decided to get my tattoo done with him. For my first tattoo experience, I have no complaints. Rosendo was a real professional and answered all my amateur questions. He also walked me through the entire process. I love my tattoo and will definitely return for my next.

I have been going here for the last 7 years. They've collectively given me 6 tattoos and I have been over the moon with each one of them. The most recent, done on 7/25/21, was done by Robert. HIGHLY RECCOMMEND! He did an amazing job. I went in to get my dog's paw print on my leg as a tribute to him and Robert took much care in making sure it was perfect. I have never had a bad experience here. They're always very cheerful and I will continue to go back for all of my ink therapy.

I went in today and Spoke to Mike. I explained this was my first tattoo which I wanted to cover scars on my shoulder. I showed him what I wanted and from there he designed something far more detailed and beautiful! Mike was great! I totally live it! I stopped here to get my first tattoo on a whim. Their Facebook page randomly popped up on my timeline, and after checking out reviews, I stopped by the shop and put down a deposit. I took advantage of the $100 tattoo special, and Rosendo tattooed me. I am absolutely in love with how it turned out. Rosendo did a great job. He always checked in to see how I was feeling, provided adequate advice, and overall was just a really cool guy. The whole thing took less than two hours which surprised me. After getting home, I noticed that one of the thorns on the black rose wasn't colored in. I called Rosendo and we scheduled a time for me to come back to get it fixed, free of charge. My ink is now almost 100% healed and it is beautiful and vibrant. I've gotten so many compliments. Rosendo worked with me, but all of the other guys in the shop seemed really cool and nice. The shop has a chill vibe. I definitely recommend stopping by!

I went here on a whim to get something that'd I had been wanting for a little bit. I was skeptical just because I'd never been here, but as soon as I walked in, I was greeted nicely and welcomingly, the workers were amazing! They have beautiful flash tattoos and tattoos the artists there have made which are so well done and cool I will definitely have to go back and get one! The man who did my tattoo did it fast and made it look just how I wanted. This place is amazing, definitely recommend!!!! Their prices are also great. It's not overpriced like most places now, I'd even say they need to up their prices with how clean the work is. read more

I just want to warn everyone that the minimum rate for the tattoos are $100 and the artist did not let us know this and took advantage of how excited we were to get matching sibling tattoos. Mike is the only person I trust with my tattoos. He is professional, neat, and timely. He has drawn 2 of my tattoos of ideas I give him and he executes them perfectly. The atmosphere is awesome the artists are not pretentious, but they are willing to tell you when they think you are not making a wise decision. I came in with very basic ideas both times I went in for a tattoo, and both times I left with a wonderful piece of art that I am proud to have on my body. I had been planning this tattoo for a long time to offset a horrible scar on my leg. I had done a lot of research and decided on Weldon Lewis to do the work. I found him at Mr. Lucky's. He was super friendly and picked up on the meaning and sentiment right away. He led me to get a larger image than I originally planned and I am really glad. He totally nailed it. Established in 1999.

The owner , Weldon Lewis began his apprenticeship at Perfection Tattoo , under Shawn DeGan in 1992. He worked at Perfection Tattoo ( San Antonio's first custom tattoo shop ) for Shawn DeGan and Chris Trevino until the end of 1998. In 1999 Mr. Lucky's Tattoo was opened on the St Marys strip , after 15 years in that location Mr Lucky's Tattoo was relocated to 2856 Thousand Oaks Dr . At Mr Lucky's we strive to cary on the traditions handed down to us by our teachers in a creative and competent way in a friendly and informative environment .

Meet the Business Owner: Weldon L.

I ( Weldon Lewis ) have been tattooing professionally since 1992 , and served a formal apprenticeship for six years . I specialize in large scale japanese tattooing as well as traditional american and hot rod / monster art . I am constantly producing new paintings and artworks that are available for purchase at the shop and at the various conventions I attend . I enjoy the challenge of working with people and their various ideas to make sure they get the best tattoo possible . As one of the few tattoo artist in San Antonio with over 20 years experience I can design and tattoo any ideas that are presented to me with an eye for detail and accuracy that is unmatched by my competitors .

I was brought back to the piercing studio around 6:30ish. I absolutely LOVE how the facility is by appointment only, and that they require you to wash your hands immediately upon coming in. Because it's appointment only, the lobby area was clear and there wasn't really anyone out there, which I really liked. The music wasn't loud either and it was enjoyable. The facility was extremely clean. Frankie was a gem. I was getting re-pierced and I was very nervous and anxious, and her vibes helped the nerves a ton. I let her know that I have a tendency to get swollen pretty quickly and more than the usual person, and she made sure to give me a longer post to account for additional swelling. Yes, it's a bit more pricier than your typical piercing studio BUT it's worth it and an investment; good work isn't cheap, cheap work isn't good. Their selection of jewelry is again, expensive but absolutely beautiful and high quality. I wish I would've gotten all my piercings done by Frankie! As for the shop, it is a tiny little place that shows up big with wall to wall decoration and funny little assortment of books to read while you wait. During my time there, I observed what was a very obvious camaraderie among the staff. So after much research I landed on Onyx Tattoo. I met with two different artists, Ray and the owner, Jay. I want to emphasize the word ARTIST. Because that is exactly what they are. I gave them each an idea for a Christian project for my son and one for myself. I found some examples online and they said, great, I got an idea of what you want, I'll make it my own. That's exactly what they did. They each spent hours drawing and designing a one of a kind tattoo that blew our expectations away. When we arrived at our appointment they were excited to see us, they greeted us in a very friendly and professional manner, and the shop is so clean and organized. You felt like you were in an artist studio that had been meticulously sanitized. Each of our tattoos took the entire day to complete. During the experience, there was great conversation, some laughs, and just felt like this is the place I want to get work done in the future. I'm already planning on fixing/finishing another piece that another tattoo artist started but never completed years before. As I have gotten older, I've grown more picky about tattoos and what they mean. In my opinion, anyone in the Austin, San Antonio or New Braunfels market should come to this studio. You will find some of the nicest artists who are genuine people who love what they do. There is no better studio around. The work Jay and Ray did for my son and I was nothing short of fabulous. I want to give a shoutout to Vivo and the other artist there as well. I would trust either of them to do work for me as well. Best experience EVER! The first day I went in, I only planned on getting one tattoo but ended up getting a second right then. A few days later, I came back for one more and ended up getting two that day. Her work is fantastic. She's really very knowledgeable and knows a lot about the different layers of skin and how tattoo art works with them. She takes an advanced approach, using tablet technology to layer the design perfectly and understands how the skin heals and responds. This also makes the process less painful. I used to use lidocaine when I get work done at home in Massachusetts. With busy schedules, I found a day that worked for everyone and booked my appointment. I arrived about an hour early so I could enjoy the hot tub before my massage. I was also planning to take advantage of the spa amenities afterward and grab lunch at one of the restaurants. About 10 minutes before my appointment, I put on my robe and headed to the waiting area. As my appointment time came and went, I watched every other guest get called back for their massages while I continued to wait. After another 10 minutes had passed, I finally went to the front desk to ask what was going on. The manager came out and informed me that there had been a miscommunication and my massage therapist was unable to make it to work that day. Unfortunately, there were no other therapists available and no alternative appointment times. I was simply told they were sorry and that I would need to reschedule. At that point, I broke down in tears. This wasn't just a massage, it was my birthday gift and my first opportunity to step away from the chaos and demands of postpartum life. Having that experience taken away without any notice was incredibly disappointing. To their credit, they did offer me a complimentary massage whenever I am able to rebook, which I appreciated and accepted. However, this was a very disappointing first impression. A simple phone call before I arrived could have saved me the time, effort, childcare arrangements, and emotional letdown.

Hello my name is Steve I've been working at Mr. Luckys tattoos for the past eight years. This was the first place I got my real first professional tattoo. And I was also more than excited to join the staff and tattoo with Weldon Lewis. To this day I am lucky that I still get to watch him do the cleanest most solid brightest boldest tattoos I've ever laid my eyes on and I've seen quite a few good tattoos and his are still some of the best ever. As soon as I stepped into Mr.Lucky's I was blown away by the amount of art work that blanketed the walls. The staff greeted me and was very welcoming as they pointed out their portfolios. As I viewed everyone's work, one of the artist sketched an idea I had and from there we set up an appointment. When I came back a week later to be tattooed, the same laid back atmosphere was still apparent. Naturally the tattoo came out great and I generally just felt comfortable at the shop.
