the tattoo I received here should have been an incredibly easy, simple, line work tattoo. I requested that my artist make the lines of the tattoo (top) match the thickness of my already existing tattoo (bottom) to which he replied "I'll try" then promptly began. He charged $100 for that shoddy line work after insisting on receiving payment FIRST, before the tattoo - never had a shop ask for payment upfront before... instead of a lovely piece of art, this image is now permanently attached to my arm as a reminder of a bad experience here :(

On October 11, 2024, we visited Ring of Fire Tattoo. We had Nicki and Mad Dog do our tattoos and was extremely happy with them both. So welcoming and friendly. Was very comfortable from the beginning. If we ever get back to San Antonio, we will definitely go see them again.

my friend and I were driving through and came across this awesome shop. I heard about Laura and how good she was with line work so I definitely wanted to get something done! the girl that took down all our info and helped put a design together was awesome (I'm sorry, I never got her name)! we were walk ins and all I knew is that I wanted a Harry Potter designed tattoo. I gave them an idea and they put it together! this shop is pretty clean and everyone is really friendly! would definitely go again if in the area. go ask for LAURA!

When the husband calls you up while you are at the nail salon and says, "Hey I am on my way to get a taco tattoo, do you want one too?" The answer to this should always be YES! We were in town visiting and he was looking for a filler tattoo on his arm that would commemorate our trip. We both love tacos so it was a win for us both. Jackie was the tattoo artists and she was super cool. She made me feel relaxed and comfortable. She did an excellent job overall and I would definitely go see her again to get something else! My sister and I walked into the shop hoping to get a tattoo in commemoration of going to texas for the first time. When we go in we were nicely greeted, the artist has asked what we wanted which we went in knowing exactly what we were wanting, but didn't have any inspiration pictures. The artist didn't like that very much, to which she watched us stand there without saying anything as we tried to look for something, even though I'd say a 'whale in a cowboy' hat is a pretty easy concept to grasp. But, I wasn't upset with the fact that she wanted something to go off of. The way she spoke to us as if we had no idea what we were talking about rubbed me the wrong way, maybe because she couldn't see any of our tattoos showing she assumed we didn't. She asked where and what size which we only wanted something a little bigger than a quarter, a simple fine line tattoo, which she had rudely informed us of "okay so a fine line." As if that was against the rules or something. Then told us that it would easily be 150$ because the shop minimum is 100$. The price is too much, but even if it wasn't I would not be giving my money to this tattoo shop. But, clearly enough it was empty for a reason when we walked in. read more

I have a regular tattoo artist in Louisiana (where I'm from) but I was itching for ink here in SA (where I live) I was referred to this place by a good friend and I have no regrets. Jackie did an amazing job on BOTH my tattoos she's done. She's sweet and really makes sure your tattoo is exactly what and where you want. Her line work is amazing and I am so happy that I trusted her! I highly recommend this shop, any of the artist but Jackie especially. Update: since posting this review i've gotten several other tattoos by Jackie and I still am so satisfied with the results her chill professionalism and cleanliness. read more

Not a professional establishment I brought my brother, his wife and my partner we were all looking to get small tattoos on our upper butt cheek (right below belt line) and the tattoo artist said he wasn't comfortable doing a tattoo in that area?? As we were walking out he was tell the other tattoo artists what we asked for and they were laughing at us as we walked out. Guess I'll take our money to another location that's more professional and can take care of what we are looking for. read more

Do NOT go here for piercings. My friend and I went and were assured they could handle an ear piercing. One of the tattoo artist's son was handling everything for us while his father sat doing whatever on his phone. We were most definitely guinea pigs for this kid. He didn't double check which part of our ears we wanted pierced (cartilage, he assumed lobe), had to ask his dad which earring to use (and still used a lip ring for an ear piercing), threw a hissy fit when informed his assumption about piercing location was wrong, and was very nervous the entire time. Go elsewhere, at least until this kid gets some more experience. read more

I got my septum pierced here last Friday, paying around the expected $50. Everything was fine, until the actual piercing. It was excruciating - and I've had my nipples pierced and a large tattoo piece - but I assumed this was no fault of the piercer at the time and rather just a more painful piercing. It wasn't until later I questioned it, especially reading posts where piercers and people with a septum piercing said it should not hurt if it correctly placed. After the clamp and the piercing was implemented, my nose was in terrible pain and my eyes were stinging and watering to the point where I could not open them. The piercer continued adjusting it even though she could see I was in pain (I was flinching) and did not offer me a chance to gather myself together, or even see the piercing - she seemed to rush me and my friend out of there. I had to stop for a minute outside to be able to open my eyes and use my phone to look at it. At initial contemplation, I was too hyped and excited to have a septum piercing I didn't notice what was wrong with it. The pain was continuing, although not as severe as it was when the piercing was being done. It was unlike any other piercing I ever had. I didn't really get to look at it properly until later that night when I got back to my friend's house, where I noticed it was crooked. At first, I thought I must be deluded because she used the clamp - something seemingly to ensure that the piercing was straight. But no, upon further inspection over the next couple of days (I was questioning whether it was swelling) the holes were definitely not placed evenly. Further, one side was pierced so close to the end/tip of my nose that I believe it was starting to move downward and be expelled, and it continued to be extremely painful. The other side, however, seemed to have perfect placement above the fleshy end of my nose and had no issues. I am curious to how this happened while using the clamps. To summarise, I unfortunately had to take the piercing out tonight. If I hadn't left the next morning to a different state (I was visiting SA), I definitely would have gone back to the piercer and question them. I'm sure they have no money back policy, much to my chagrin, as now I have wasted $50 and must wait weeks and spend further money for the piercing to be correctly done. read more

I just have to say that this shop are true professionals. I came in for two ear piercings a few weeks ago. I won't go into detail but there was a mistake that happened and the shop fully took responsibility for it and made sure to reimburse me for an honest mistake. Somethings things can happen but the people here were very professional about it and made sure to take care of me. read more

Attention to detail....one of the biggest things I look for in tattoos no matter how big or small it is. All I can say is the man who did my tattoo said he doesn't do small tattoos mine was medium sized with little to no detail because apparently he doesn't do that. I promise you I won't be coming back due to the fact that one the artist can't do something simple and two it was a waste of money.... read more

I gave Rob 100$ for a deposit on a sleeve and ha expressed to him how I had had bad experiences with people so far in not honoring appointments and commitments, just bad business practices, he assured me this project would be a priority. That was end of July this year, now November and the tattoo has not been started and he went a month without even reaching out to me, after telling me the drawing would be complete in a week, when I finally got fed up and reached out he said he really didn't have a reason, he was just busy. Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression when you say your going to do something you do it, I have decided to go elsewhere and asked for my deposit back, He has completely ignored my text messages and will Not respond in anyway. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone, there are way better shops in town, especially now that I have had three months of waiting on him to look around. read more

Fortunately I have not been tattooed at this specific place however a dear friend of mine has. I am appalled that this place of business took advantage of him while he was drunk and proceeded to give him a tattoo he desperately regrets. The font is so uneven it looks my 12 year old designed it. While under the influence of alcohol he received permanent damage to his ego and spirit. May he be able to cover this horrible tattoo so he may go shirtless with confidence in the near future. read more

Everything was great working with them, got two tattoos with Shaggy and the other with Laura. Laura's line work was phenomenal and damn near impossible to beat. Shaggy's color techniques are awesome, using skin as a natural highlight really making his colors pop. I would definitely go here to get another tattoo. My mom and I were feeling pretty spontaneous and wanted to get another tattoo. I got my first at another place on my 18th bday and my mom got one matching. It's a sentimental tattoo, but could've been done better. This time she recommended going here cuz she knew someone, Chris, who's good at it. And he did my tattoo of Stitch playing a guitar. And my mom got a heart with "Love" drawn thru the middle in cursive. It's still awesome today and we love it! And i hope to come again soon! I need more work done! read more

Jessica and Laura were amazing. I was super anxious and they made me feel very comfortable. They both were extremely patient. Laura was very knowledgeable about placement and consulting about size. I brought in this sound wave on a whim hoping they could fit me in for a walk in tattoo. My only complaint was I set an appointment for 10:30pm on a Friday but she didn't start my tattoo until 11:30p. But Jackie did amazing! She listened to exactly what I wanted, and she delivered! PISSED that we spent $80.00 each to have our ear lobes pieced only to come home and find out that the earrings were for nipple piercings and NOT ear piercings!!!! So now we get to spend even more F^&King money on getting this S%^T done right!! I WILL be filing a complaint with the BBB about this as this is extremely POOR Customer service! And Good for me that I have the guys pic that did this!! NOT recommending this dive to anyone! read more

I am from Philadelphia and I was visiting my husband in Texas and we decided to get tattoos together. We looked online a while at places reading reviews and finally decided to go with Rings of Fire Tattoo. I had to leave a review as San Antonio is a very popular tourist location and I am sure many people whom are considering getting a tattoo probably will do some research before choosing a place to go and I wanted to make it known, no need to look any further. Tattoo Artist Shaggy is a beast. He did a magnificent job on my shoulder. I decided to go with the worm from the movie "The Labyrinth", being a childhood favorite of mine, Shaggy exceeded all expectations. He even has a t.v. set up in his booth and put the movie Coraline on and then put on Fight Club. The people there were nice and knowledgeable. To sum it all up, if your looking for a place to get some new ink definitely check this place out. Whether you are a local or tourist like myself this is the place I would highly recommend. Big shout out to Shaggy, thanks again and next time I come to visit I will be sure to hit them up for another banger tattoo. read more

I think he did a great job making sure my friends were good and comfortable throughout. I didnt get anything but looking around if I do consider getting a piercing in the future, I would consider coming here for sure. They also do tattoos too and some images I saw seem cool so maybe something to think about too.

I was brought back to the piercing studio around 6:30ish. I absolutely LOVE how the facility is by appointment only, and that they require you to wash your hands immediately upon coming in. Because it's appointment only, the lobby area was clear and there wasn't really anyone out there, which I really liked. The music wasn't loud either and it was enjoyable. The facility was extremely clean. Frankie was a gem. I was getting re-pierced and I was very nervous and anxious, and her vibes helped the nerves a ton. I let her know that I have a tendency to get swollen pretty quickly and more than the usual person, and she made sure to give me a longer post to account for additional swelling. Yes, it's a bit more pricier than your typical piercing studio BUT it's worth it and an investment; good work isn't cheap, cheap work isn't good. During my time there, I observed what was a very obvious camaraderie among the staff. Let me explain: I came into Onyx Tattoo in New Braunfels looking for my son who waited until he was 18 to get a tattoo. As a parent this made me proud bc so many youths today don't have the patience to wait. I thought it would be a good experience for him and I to get one together. So after much research I landed on Onyx Tattoo. I met with two different artists, Ray and the owner, Jay. I want to emphasize the word ARTIST. Because that is exactly what they are. I gave them each an idea for a Christian project for my son and one for myself. I found some examples online and they said, great, I got an idea of what you want, I'll make it my own. That's exactly what they did. They each spent hours drawing and designing a one of a kind tattoo that blew our expectations away. When we arrived at our appointment they were excited to see us, they greeted us in a very friendly and professional manner, and the shop is so clean and organized. You felt like you were in an artist studio that had been meticulously sanitized. Each of our tattoos took the entire day to complete. During the experience, there was great conversation, some laughs, and just felt like this is the place I want to get work done in the future. I'm already planning on fixing/finishing another piece that another tattoo artist started but never completed years before. As I have gotten older, I've grown more picky about tattoos and what they mean. In my opinion, anyone in the Austin, San Antonio or New Braunfels market should come to this studio. You will find some of the nicest artists who are genuine people who love what they do. There is no better studio around. The work Jay and Ray did for my son and I was nothing short of fabulous. I want to give a shoutout to Vivo and the other artist there as well. I would trust either of them to do work for me as well. Best experience EVER! Remember folks, cheap tattoos aren't good, and good tattoos aren't cheap. However, I would say that their value is actually underrated. These same tattoos would have cost more in comparison to S. Congress in Austin. I got an incredible value and an amazing piece of art to remind me always of my faith.

With busy schedules, I found a day that worked for everyone and booked my appointment. I arrived about an hour early so I could enjoy the hot tub before my massage. I was also planning to take advantage of the spa amenities afterward and grab lunch at one of the restaurants. About 10 minutes before my appointment, I put on my robe and headed to the waiting area. As my appointment time came and went, I watched every other guest get called back for their massages while I continued to wait. After another 10 minutes had passed, I finally went to the front desk to ask what was going on. The manager came out and informed me that there had been a miscommunication and my massage therapist was unable to make it to work that day. Unfortunately, there were no other therapists available and no alternative appointment times. I was simply told they were sorry and that I would need to reschedule. At that point, I broke down in tears. This wasn't just a massage, it was my birthday gift and my first opportunity to step away from the chaos and demands of postpartum life. Having that experience taken away without any notice was incredibly disappointing. To their credit, they did offer me a complimentary massage whenever I am able to rebook, which I appreciated and accepted. However, this was a very disappointing first impression. A simple phone call before I arrived could have saved me the time, effort, childcare arrangements, and emotional letdown.

Steer clear of "Rings of Fire". For context, I have a task trained service dog. My sister and I were going to get matching Texas Bluebonnets while we were in the area, we lived in San Antonio as children and thought it would be a good memory, and decided to try their shop. I didn't even make it all the way in the door before I was told I wasn't allowed to bring in my dog. I tried to say "she is [allowed], she's a service dog, etc." but got cut off halfway through by the (very loud) man yelling over us "no she's not [allowed]" . my family was fed some nonsense about sterility (tattoo shops themselves are not a sterile environment despite what some may claim, although specific tools such as needles are), dander (allergies are not a legal reason to deny a service dog), and something about a missing counter?? while i was left standing outside in the Texas heat so we left. Gross and discriminatory behavior. Texas.GOV states tattoo shops do, in fact, have to abide by federal law and must allow service animals. The state laws that govern tattoo shops in Texas also state that service animals must be permitted on Texas.GOV I just wanted to have a fun memory with my sister for her first tattoo. I posted on Facebook and Instagram about it, and the shop viewed it and untagged themselves without a single acknowledgment. Thinking about it today, I am very disgusted, and decided to leave a review, despite originally wanting to let it go with an apology. read more

Jackie did amazing on my forearm tattoo. I walked in a couple months ago and she fit me in right away. Instant connection because she was the first artist I'd met who knew and loved Studio Ghibli like I do. Talked me into a color tattoo when I was planning on just the lineart, gray pricing too. She really worked with my budget and it's my favorite tattoo at the moment. Healed wonderfully and she didn't make me feel shitty when the pain started getting to me at the end.
