Tip: Sirloin steak is our option here. It was yummy, but a bit on the tough side if you're ordering a medium-well one. On my recent trip back to Winnipeg, I was craving steak. I had thought about going to The Keg for dinner. However, I wasn't feeling like spending a ton of money for a single meal, as yummy as any steak at this eatery is. I had just finished seeing a great movie at the Cineplex on McGillivray. I was ready for dinner. It was my birthday. The Keg was fairly close. I did a search for other steakhouses. I found Mr Mikes. It was new to me. I headed over to it. Mr Mikes wasn't difficult to find. It was a three-minute drive from Cineplex. It's located in a plaza across from Starbucks. I backed into an available parking spot and walked in. It didn't take long for a staffer to greet me. She asked me if I wanted a booth or a table. I went with the former and got a comfy one. Summer was my server. Summer in Winnipeg with Summer. Cool! I ordered water and a Diet Coke to start. Service was impeccable, as another staffer came by a few minutes later to ask if I needed anything. Mr Mikes is a franchise that hails from Vancouver. It was started by a couple of guys in Vancouver whose first name isn't Mike. I don't know the story behind the name. Anyway, like Earls, Mr Mikes has made its way eastbound. This location is the only one in Winnipeg. There are currently three locations in southwestern Ontario. The one in Kitchener is new. I'll need to visit it when I'm back in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Mr Mikes is big on steaks and burgers. The dining experience was casual and laidback. I got these items: - Oscars sirloin lobster - Diet Coke The oscars sirloin lobster is the most bang for your buck. It features a seven-ounce sirloin with lobster and seafood on top, along with hollandaise. It comes with onion rings, veggies, and garlic mashed potatoes. This meal screamed my name. I got the sirloin medium-well. I drank my water and Diet Coke. Both were cold and refreshing. I got another Diet Coke refill during my visit. My food didn't take long to arrive. It was impressive considering that it was roughly 6:30 pm on a Thursday evening. I never know what to expect when the description says that veggies are a side. Would they be gross, like mushy squash? Nope! I got the most delicate asparagus. Yay! I will say that the sirloin was a bit difficult to cut through. I don't know if it was actually the meat or my knife. It was still yummy and seasoned well. I loved everything else. The lobster and seafood on top was delicious. This place didn't skimp on the seafood. There were lumps on lobster and shrimp. Excellent! The garlic mashed potatoes were comforting. They weren't super garlicky, but you knew that the garlic was there. I loved the asparagus. It was easy to cut and eat. They were lightly salted and cooked perfectly. The onion rings were enjoyable. They were crispy on the outside. The onion's natural sweetness came through each ring. The only downside was being asked how everything was tasting with a mouthful of food. It happens more to me in Winnipeg, which is something I don't miss. The question could have been timed better. It doesn't take much to look at someone's jaw to determine whether chewing is occurring. If the customer is chewing, maybe ask the question later if you're dying to know. Summer asked whether I had room for dessert after I had polished off my main. I didn't. This meal was filling and satisfying. I asked for the bill. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and tipped. Done! I used the washroom before I started my drive back to Steinbach. The women's washroom simply had She on the door with red lips. Cool! The washroom stall that I used was clean. The entire washroom was nicely maintained. I liked some of the images on the wall as I headed out the door: - Some of my best friends are vegan - Bad spellers of the world untie - I licked it so it's mine All relatable. Super fun and funny! PROS - $5 Happy Hour Menu is really good. I loved their honey garlic wings, bruschetta and their shrimp. It seemed like their cocktail sauce was made in house, super delicious. Fast service. CONS - Perogies were too dry, the taco shell was cold so I couldnt really enjoy my taco. The potato skins were also too dry/burnt. I have always really liked Mr. Mikes but I haven't been here in awhile. Whilst driving back from buying diapers my husband and I decided to pop in to see what was new! We were NOT disappointed! Blaine was our bartender/waiter and he was amazing! I haven't had such an amazing restaurant experience in a looong time. Not to mention, after 9 pm they have $5 drinks and $5 appies which were so delicious (if you like gin I recommend the grapefruit gin fizzle). We will be back! Maybe we'll even become regulars Update: After a couple years off due to COVID- we came back to Mr Mike's and we're NOT disappointed! While I was looking for a restaurant that opens late in the area this past Sunday night, Mr Mike's just so happened to show up on my search so I decided to check it out. When I walked in, the atmosphere felt very casual, as expected. The servers were chill, they were a little bit too relaxed imo. Some of them did not even have their white dress shirts (uniform) tucked in. The restaurant itself is divided into two sections like most other restaurants: the lounge and the dinning area. The inside of it reminded me of a combination of Salisbury and Apple Bee's. One thing that stood up in my mind was that there were some very entertaining posters on the wall. I had the top sirloin with double baked potatoes, onion rings and greens. The potato was not very good, it tasted as if it had been sitting out for awhile. This could've been because it's the end of the day so they were just serving whatever that was left. The steak was okay, it could definitely have used more seasoning. The onion rings were good though! My experience with Mr. Mike's was alright. I was expecting a reasonably cheap meal if I were to go for a "casual" meal, which is what the restaurant is branded to be. However, with what I was paying for, I would rather spend a few extra dollars next door, The Keg, for a better steak. With that said, I do appreciate the relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. On a day that you don't feel like dressing up or if you're just simply craving for steaks on a late evening, this is the place to check out. read more

Well where do I start, first of all we were sitting in lobby waiting to be seated. I look into the restaurant and there is a female sitting in the booth with her bare feet up on the cushions the staff were totally ignoring this. They were aware of her bare feet nothing was said to her by the staff. 2) we were seated and looking over the menu and proceeded to open my napkin with my fork in it and a long black hair is in the napkin and fork. 3) ordered side Caesar salad and it came with almost no dressing on it and very bland with only the majority of lettuce was The middle part of the head of lettuce very little green leafs. 4) ordered a steak sandwich medium well Came out medium rare. My wife and I went there tonight, not a lot of people are in there so you assume you get prompt service, especially for drinks. However this wasn't the case, we had to wait sometime until the server decided to ask us for drinks. He brought those out the ask for our order, I had a burger and fries, the burger was okay however the patty wasn't fresh made, it tasted like a patty I buy at any store. My wife had a salad which was okay as well however it's definitely not worth $18.49!!!!! After that our server wasn't seen my husband got up to bring me salt and pepper for my tomatoes.( well he went inside and found it somewhere and brought it to me) . I am pretty sure if your drink is empty the server should ask if the customer wanted a refill, but maybe they should say at the door to bring your own refills especially if it is warm outside because for sure you not gonna get one from the server. Not good. Had a 12 oz.. ribeye and was served a pancake. Lucky if the steak was 1/2" and medium when I wanted medium rare. But hard to be accurate with a steak this thin. I work in area and tried mr. mikes when they opened. Food was ok/ good but sketchy service. But I'm in the area so went back. Totally impressed. Looked forward to trying this place out. Overall it was a let down. Atmosphere is fantastic. 80's radio hits for music, laid back attitude, board games available to play while you wait for food. The staff seemed to know their stuff and was friendly and knowledge. Steak is in the name so that's what we had. I ordered the 16 oz Ribeye ($40) and the cut was awful. There was was a large amount that was gristle. The seasoning seems like light salt and a scoop of garlic butter at the end. It was Bland tasting and average. It was however a solid medium rare exactly how I ordered it. The double baked potato was delicious piping hot and well blended. The vegetable medley was crisp and relatively fresh tasting. The side of mushrooms were hot but again bland tasting. It was an ok experience but definitely not worth the price of admission. read more

Was very disappointed that the mushrooms were literal canned mushrooms. Still tasted like they were out of the can. Had the peppercorn sauce with one of the steaks and there was about two peppercorns, the rest was just gravy and more canned mushrooms. The vegetables too looked liked they were out of the bulk store bags and they were very rubbery and unappetizing. The steaks were not cooked properly and were quite blue. When asked if they could be cooked a little more, we were told that we'd have to pay for another meal and that is outrageous. For the price that was paid for the meal, it was a total rip off for what we had gotten and I recommend everyone I know to avoid this place. I've eaten at the location in Dauphin and it was wonderful, but the one in Winnipeg in honest is appetizing as day old fast food. read more

We went for the first (and last) time tonight for supper. The staff are very friendly and courteous, the atmosphere very nice and terrific music but the food value is sub-par. I ordered a burger and asked if it could be wrapped in lettuce instead of a white flour bun and was told yes. I also substituted the regular fries for yam fries. The plate came out and the fries were a smaller portion than the regular fries on my wife's plate for the $2.99 extra and the burger was a thin piece of meat on a thin piece of lettuce which was nowhere worth the $17.00 it cost. Well where do I start... mr mikes is brand new to winnipeg had to try it out... The wife and I went here last night at about 6:30 pm We both ordered the rib eye steak got the double baked potato and greens and the wife got the lobster Mac and cheese. Ok so first off the service was decent but that's where the good part of this review ends. Our steak (which is almost the same price as the keg) was so bland and under seasoned that we had to add salt and pepper at the table from the shakers... the double baked potato must have been made last week. The wife and I looked at the potato and looked at each other and we both could tell this lump of coal has been sitting in a cooler for waaay too long... the wife's lobster Mac and cheese looked like it was the same thing cpl days old prepped food that was thrown in a microwave oven ( all the "sauce" was on the bottom of the bowl and the noodles were visably dried out from some sort of sitting/microwave cooking) I found it almost hilarious that this place was actually charging steakhouse prices and claiming to be Casual The only thing casual about Mr.mikes was the quality of food that they bring to your table... We were extremely disappointed with the food. And we could see other tables around us having the same issues and even could hear them voicing there opinions to the hostess as they left saying they wouldn't be back either. This place needs to be on Gordan Ramsay 24 hrs to hell and back.... Cold food - bad service - undercooked food that was flavourless and bland. Don't waste your money

This was the first time we had ever been to Mr MIKES and wanted to try something different for our Anniversary... Well I don't think we will be rushing back..The food portions were very small for the price .... My husband ordered the 2 piece chicken meal and literally one piece looked like a chicken wing ...When he brought this to the attention of the server she was was very kind but didn't offer additional pieces .. My husband had to ask which was embarrassing.. the Caesar salad was also very small and disappointing ...we had to ask for pop refills ...I had the steak & lobster Mac/cheese & onions rings ... again portions disappointing ..so our bill was over $75 dollars ...we didn't feel we got our money's worth ... read more

Tried eating at Mr, Mikes on Aug 22, 2018. The outside looked new and exciting, but when I went inside I was disappointed with the cheap and uninspiring decore, more like a food diner. The steaks we ordered were about $40 each befoe tax, including 2 small inion rings and green beans and a baked potato. My friend asked before ordering if instead of the beans, baked potato and two inion rings they could get fries, but was told no subsitutions. The steaks were advertised as 12 oz, but were more like 8oz as they were only 1/2 inch thick at the thickest point and about 6 inches across. Cheap and not very tasty. The food was way overpriced and not good, Service was also slow and poor. Will never go back to this rip-off, The Keg next door is about the same price and 10 x's better with food, choices and service, give Mr. Mikes a D-, go somewhere else, this place sucks, read more

When we were coming into the city from the cottage, we passed the new Mr. Mike's restaurant (at McGillivray and Kenaston) and noticed a large sign "Now Open". We went home, showered, checked on-line to make sure they were open, walked 3.5 kms only to discover that they had gotten their days mixed up and were closed for the Canada Day holiday on July 2nd!! Bizarre. Moxie's, Joey's Kenaston and The Keg were all open so we had other options but thought this is a poor way to run a business. read more
