Had a great dinner at The Keg Steakhouse in Winnipeg. The atmosphere was beautiful--perfect for a relaxed night out. I ordered the 12 oz New York strip with a twice baked potato, and everything was spot on. Steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, super juicy and tender. The potato was packed with flavor--bacon bits and chives mixed in, just how it should be. They start you off with some warm bread (always a win), and I had a hazy IPA that paired really well with the meal. The service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and on point. Definitely planning to come back next time I'm in Canada and try some of the other cuts! read more

I love the ambiance - dark(ish) and cozy. I was taking myself on a solo date so I opted to sit at the bar. I came a few minutes after they opened so it wasn't busy at all. Friendly service! I opted for the bone-in rib steak & added lobster tail, twice baked potato & mushrooms on the side. The lobster tail was definitely the star of the show on the plate. The lobster meat was sweet enough, the butter wasn't even necessary. The rib steak was a bit too peppery for me and didn't have the marbling I usually find in this cut. The twice baked potato was good, and I can see how some people are a fan of it. I prefer thin mushroom slices and not the whole mushroom, but again, to each their own. A bit on the pricier side, so might be worth a try if you're around and want a bit nicer of a dinner. read more

We were visiting Winnipeg and wanted a good steak. We couldn't have done better. I had a fabulous filet mignon with a lobster tail. Both were superb. Caesar salad was perfect. Also had a side of sauteed mushrooms. My wife ordered a side of twice baked potatoes. I provided photos of these. The service was great. Sarah was terrific. We had 2 preschool kids and they had great food too. The children's menu included steak and mac and cheese. No room for dessert. read more

3.5/5, +.5 for service Haha. This Keg is near my place, but I never dine here cause it's just so expensive...until my roommate randomly said "hey let's go to The Keg, I'll pay". Um...sure! I've been to The Keg in Toronto before and generally am fond of their steaks. I've had their prime rib before and enjoyed it, so that's what I decided to go with. Medium rare was indeed medium rare, and 10 oz is more than enough to satisfy me for dinner. For $35 The Keg is actually more affordable than I thought for prime cuts. It's a popular spot for meetups too, and the lounge got quite busy when I was there. Service was good the entire time. They check vax passports before entering, so that's a good sign. It's close enough to my place that I'd come back for sure. read more

Beautiful night for a dinner on their patio. Very friendly service. The steak was cooked to perfection and the shrimp scampi seasoning was pleasant tasting. I also loved the garlic mashed red potatoes with the skins!!! Couldn't pass up my love for Sangrias. The fresh fruit made it all the better. read more

Needed to warm up and have some nourishment prior to a Jets game and saw this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I was served by a terrific guy named Cole, who made the experience great. Started with a very tasty old fashioned and was offered some warm bread, which was great. Decided to get the garlic shrimp appetizer which was nice....very cheesy and buttery. Then ordered the steak frites which was prepared just right. I wasn't crazy about the fries but the steak was good. Service as good throughout and even the patrons at the bar were friendly. The only thing that wasn't great about the bar was that it had a long slanted section so your plate had to sit about a foot away from you (I am not sure what the metric conversion for that is...maybe about a third of a meter?). Anyway, I am a little bit messy so I tend to eat right over my plate so everything I drop goes back onto the plate rather than into my lap and with the bar constructed that way, I spilled some things. Never really understood why some bars are made like that, but I am sure there is a reason, unfathomable as it might be. This place was very lively and jumping when I left. In the summer I was told they have a great outdoor section. As it was 17 degrees F, I decided not to check it out. Good place for a bit and thanks to Yelp for pointing it out! read more

This location of The Keg is in downtown Winnipeg, closer to Broadway, on Garry Street. To me, this one is the first The Keg that the city got. The other two locations are newer. I used to work downtown. After work, it would be great to meet with friends at this location. It would take me roughly fifteen minutes to walk over here from where I used to live. The last time I was here, I was with a good friend. We both worked downtown and met here after work. He used to live right across from this restaurant, so he had it easy! This restaurant does have a parking lot next door. I don't know whether you need to pay for parking or if it's free for patrons. Back then, I didn't own a car. I either took public transportation or walked everywhere, so those details are sketchy. Otherwise, you can find parking on the street, which is typically metered. The Keg tends to be dark when you first walk in. This one is no different. I don't mind it. I like cozy. We met in the lobby and got a booth. My usual is the prime rib. I couldn't tell you how I ended up loving prime rib. I still do. I like it medium-well and it is done just the way I like it at The Keg. As a side, I like either sauteed mushrooms or green beans. If I'm fancy, I'll go with whatever veggies are in season. My friend had the sirloin steak. He loved it! We got sourdough bread to start, which was warm and yummy with butter on top. We had eaten so much bread that we didn't even want to look at the dessert menu. We were here for a good three hours. We reminisced over when we worked together and how things were in our lives. It's interesting that Winnipeg is where we met and became good friends. Since our time in this city, I moved back to the GTA. He headed further west and resides in Edmonton. Staff have always been friendly and professional. Service was always great. We didn't wait long for our food or drink refills. My friend cracked me up when he first thought that with free refills, he should bring his family with him. He orders a drink, gets a free refills, and lets one of his family members have it. So, he orders a drink with refills to hydrate his entire clan... haha! I do miss dining at this eatery. I hope to go back and see how things are when this pandemic is over and it's safe to travel. First time visiting Winnipeg, so randomly picked this restaurant! Great find! Calamari was perfect appetizer! Each person ordered steaks. My son said his sirloin house special was one of the best steaks he's had in a long time. My husband's filet was great as well. My prime rib was delicious as well, with well portioned sides of garlic mashed! Only thing that keeps me from giving a 5 star was the iced tea, please warn people that it is flavored before ordering. Steaks I hit the Keg Steakhouse after noticing it was in walking distance to my hotel- and was glad I did. The place has a nice vibe to it- on the dark side with a raised bar area - I only sat in the bar area - grabbed a seat at the bar and got a nice glass of wine. In addition to the nice looking place, the wait staff is dressed very nicely - I liked the look of the waitresses and wish that the States had more of a dress code for the wait staff - it just bumps the whole thing up a notch. The bartender knew his wines and had me going with my first glass in no time. I grabbed a menu after settling in and ordered up a Bleu Cheese Filet - which is filet mignon with a bleu cheese cap - perfect. The steak came out perfectly cooked and paired with my glass of wine, I was a happy camper. Entree came with roasted garlic mash and a very good selection of veggies- not just the usual suspects you get all over the planet. Apparently there are a lot of these places scattered around Canada - so give it a shot if one happens to be near you. Parking on the street I believe. Great food great service went for my anniversary and got free desert which was great.

Good was either undercooked or over cooked. The service was not good. As we didn't have alcohol the girl showed no interest in how it was. Couldn't believe the poor quality of the steak and small portions. There is also no vegetable served with the meal if you order a potato that's all you get. Cheap cheap unacceptably bad. Used to be a great place. Now it pretends to be high end with no reason for it to be called that. read more

This place has NO personality. My 3rd try in 6 months here as I stay at FT. Garry hotel. Overall disappointed with servers in general, lost talents of how to be outstanding. Sorry Keg.... I went here with my wife for March 14th (aka Manventine's Day, S&B Day, Valentine's for Men) and we had a delicious dinner. The Keg is always consistent and a good value. There are other places that have higher prices but I don't think that they can claim their higher price of admission really translates to a higher quality of meal. They were understanding about my wife's request about gluten free items and provided us with an excellent celebratory meal. read more

In terms of the Kegs, I am okay with them for dinner because if you're with friends and you want steak, it's not so pricey that it can be a choice. And when you're going with family, you can easily take kids there without feeling out of place. But for lunch, I have to say their menu is quite lacking. You're either going to spend $12 for burgers or sandwiches or $20 for some steak related entree. There's really nothing in between that's interesting in terms of choice or price point. I went with their prime rib burger which is topped with lettuce,tomato, pickle, red onion, and mayo. I added bacon and chose the side caesar salad. It was close to about $13. I was quite disappointed with their burger considering that this is a meat place....the patty was not freshly ground but tasted like the processed frozen patties you buy at the grocery store. I think you can even buy the Keg burger patties in the frozen aisle. The burger was quite greasy and a tad salty from the Keg spice they used. I guess I should've asked if it was a freshly made burger but I didn't. Oh well, it wasn't that pricey. Otherwise, their dinner steak meals here are fine so I'd come back for that but not for lunch. Though I have to commend them on their ultra fast lunch service. Everything was timed perfectly and my group was out of there within the hour on a Friday lunch - very impressive. The GOOD: Service- good but missed some minor things such as a set up and a steak knife but retrieved right away. Service went smoothly after that. The BAD: When the rib eye steak arrived, I poked the center using the tip of my steak knife and fork. Instead of being slightly soft, it was a little firm. Contrary to my usually routine of starting from one end, I cut it right down the middle to confirm my suspicions; medium instead of medium rare. I checked with my server and she confirmed that I ordered a medium rare steak and agreed that it looked over done. She summoned the manager and he apologized for the misstep and requested another steak. When the new steak arrived, I again poked and prodded it and damn, it was again firm but slightly softer in the middle. I cut it and it was still medium but slightly pinker. At that point I was so hungry that I ate a few bites and was shocked to taste how salty it was. I powered through a few more bites but just finished the grilled vegetables. When told of another overdone steak which he confirmed, he surprisingly did not acquiesce to the saltiness. I think he and his chef should submit to a breathalizer test. You can't undo an over cooked or over salted steak!! I'll give THE KEG another try but out in the suburbs because I had a great rib eye in THE KEG, Vancouver, BC. This was my first experience experience at The Keg (my boyfriend has been here several times). Despite having a reservation, we had to wait approximately 15 minutes to be seated. I asked if they had lemonade and the server stated they did. Something was terribly "off" with it both my boyfriend and I agreed. Making it undrinkable. With that being said, our server was friendly and checked with us fairly often. We enjoyed all the food we ordered : the French onion soups, mushrooms neptune, the keg Caesar and baseball top sirloin (cooked to perfection). All prices were comparable to like steakhouses and fair. Make sure to make a reservation as they are busy. We look forward to returning. read more

As a former Texan, I am particular about my steakhouses. I found the Keg to be good. The Prime Rib was quite tasty and the beer selection was pretty varied. I ate there on a week night and the place wasn't very busy but I got the impression that it picks up a bit on the weekends. Overall, a good steak at a reasonable price and the wait staff is attentive without being ever present. If you want a good steak in Winnipeg, I would suggest The Keg. read more

Amazing food, excellent service, we would definitely return again. We have eaten at other Keg restaurants in the past with only mediocre experiences so honestly our expectations were low. On this occasion we were joining a large group for dinner so the venue choice was not ours, however, we were pleasantly surprised and thoroughly impressed by the food and staff. We go to The Keg a few times a year. I always have the Prime Rib as it's the most tender cut. I've had it cooked medium, medium-well and well-done. The welldone was tender, but I'll stick with the medium doneness. The only thing I don't lke that the serve with the Prime Rib is those deep-fried onions! I love onions but not the way they serve it, next time I'll ask them to leave them out. Sometimes I have a specail Keg coffee as a dessert. My boyfriend also likes the hostesses, they look like they are from Robert Palmer videos! read more
