I ran into this shop looking for Wayside School books and haven't needed to look anywhere else. Great selection of classics! I love that I can find something I never knew was ever in print and its so exciting to happen upon the books that I would have never remembered having read as a child otherwise. Great place to start if you, too, are trying to employ a screen-free form of entertainment for your family. Shop is ran and owned by Taz a 6-year-old dingo, and his human Mr. Otto, a retired high school teacher who suffers from bibliomania. Having a conversation with Mr. Otto is like flipping through an encyclopedia - though not always the right one, at first. But guaranteed, you'll learn something new!!! Awesome character! Brought my six year old in today. I saw some blocks and asked how much they were but the store owner said he wants to sell them to a math teacher. Okay? So they're not for sale? Then he asked me how much I want to pay for them. Uhhh... now all of a sudden I have to price your items for you? I looked on eBay and they're $6 for 200 pieces and he wanted us to count. When I informed him of this, he wanted us to count the blocks. Every. Single. Block. Who does that? I rather buy them on eBay than at this store. Indecisive owner, wants others to price his items for him. A lot of these books are way overpriced. I much rather patronize other thrift stores in town that sell just as good literature for a fraction of the price. read more

Mr. Otto's book store is a great children's bookstore. I was able to find the "No, David!" children's book by David Shannon. There are also a lot of picture books, Dr. Seuss books, chapter books such as Harry Potter series (I recently saw today), goosebumps etc. There are lot of educational children's books as well for math and history. Mr. Otto also has a great sense of humor and is very helpful. You should definitely stop by and check it out, you might find a hidden gem in there! read more

This is the best book store in stockton for classic children's books and even new age ones as well. My gr and I stumbled upon this place while renting an instrument from the music shop next door. We went in there and instantly felt very welcomed. This book store is amazing and has so many of my childhood books. Mr. Otto (I believe that's his name) was talking with a friend of his while we were in there and he was very funny. We weren't trying to eavesdrop but it was only us 4 in the small store. He also is very very welcoming. I loved loved loved this store so much. The atmosphere and the owner, just amazing. That store was right up my alley. I never thought I would ever feel like I want to go back to a book store like I want to go back to this one. I LOVE THIS PLACE!! It's always so fun coming in to choose your next adventure. You never know what you're going to find next in here. You can spend hours browsing or talking to Mr. Otto, who is such a conversationalist! I walked in her after my brother-in-law stumbled upon this place about a week ago. Doors Book Recyclery isn't just confined to books, they also sell CD's, DVD's (a great selection at a great price, about 2 or 3 bucks) and other little trinkets like jewelry, purses ect. What I really like about this place is that they invite the artistic community to hang out and show their stuff. They designated a spot in the back corner for local artist and painters to do their work and the art is proudly displayed on the wall. They also have musical instruments for musicians to come in and have a little jam session. For that I give them five stars because I believe it is so important to nurture the arts in this city and I applaud the owner for his ideas. They really should of called this place "mini amazon.com" because they have everything I want for an amazing price. Do yourself a favor and check this place out! read more

My daughter and I love Mr. Otto's Bookstore, which specializes in used children's books. This store and staff are a jewel to the Miracle Mile neighborhood and adds an inclusive sense of community. I stumbled across this store in an attempt to help my daughter fall in love with reading, boy did we find the right place! Mr. Otto remembers my daughter by name and sets books aside that he knows she will love. They have a wonderful selection of children's books, something for every level and interest. Not only has Mr. Otto's Bookstore been instrumental in my daughter falling in love with reading, but he also hosts great literacy events and occasional educational classes for kids, such as Writing in Cursive.
