I called Mr. Rooter Plumbing because I had a blockage in my main sewer line. They were able to send a technician the following day. The technician arrived on time and began to assess the situation. We agreed on a price for the service and the technician, John Keating, began the task of completing the job. He was courteous, professional and explained exactly what he was doing. After clearing the blockage, he ran water down the line for about five minutes to be sure the pipes were clear. He also suggested ways to prevent the build up from repeating itself. I am extremely satisfied with his service and will definitely consider using Mr. Rooter Plumbing for future needs. I will also refer Mr. Rooter Plumbing to my friends and family. We came home last night from a long day of work, to find we weren't getting any hot water. Being a recent owners. We weren't and aren't completely up to speed on the house. Have a call to local gas service. With no help from them even after telling them we have an error message " check gas intake". This morning I pulled up local plumbers, found Rohde. I found the staff and Scott the plumber very responsive and flexible. At first I thought the quote of $1200 to replace three fixtures and investigate a water pressure issue was a bit steep but Scott spent over 5.5 hours doing the installs, which required going into the wall behind the shower and struggling with what turned out to be a defective kitchen faucet. The managers let Scott stay at my house while I ran out and bought a replacement fixture without extra charge, saving me having to pay again to bring them out to install the new faucet. Scott is great, explains everything as he goes along, and knows how to do work-arounds as needed. read more

I used to think this company was great. They helped us out many times and we were loyal customers. NOT ANY MORE! We had a new shower installed by another company that clogged. We had Mr Rooter come in and they snaked it, then sent a camera down and still couldn't figure out the problem and charged us $2500. They told us that the shower needed to be removed for them to see the problem. We paid the original company $1500 to remove the shower. Mr Rooter said that the job here was about a half day job and would be close to $4,000. I called and called and waited and waited, for 6 weeks. My calls and messages were TOTALLY IGNORED!!! Finally they TEXT message me to say I should find someone else to do the job because they are too busy. So I guess that means they aren't taking any new jobs or getting back to people. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY! They jerk you around, take your money and leave you hanging. Will be in court for this one. read more

I called Mr Rooter of Poughkeepsie for a broken shower handle in one of my rental units. They offered a free estimate and I figured that they would be able to identify the proper part, source it locally and replace it. The plumber was unable to determine the brand and was unwilling to research it. He gave me two choices. The first involved removing the valve from the wall and replacing with a new cartridge and trim set of the same make, the cost was around $1200. The second option was to break out the tile behind the shower and also replace the valve body... this option was around $2000. ( its been 6 months so I don't have the exact numbers on hand) All I was trying to do was replace the shower handle. I told him that was expensive and unnecessary and passed on the job. Thank you and I'm sorry you weren't able to help me. With 20 minutes of googling I found the part and had it sent to the apartment (I'm out of state) and my tenant's 15 year old son mounted the handle, total cost $53 with rush shipping. Then Mr. Rooter decided that it wasn't a "free estimate" that they had provided but a "diagnostic" which costs $175. Again, it was a broken handle, obvious to anyone. I spoke with the national office and they agreed there shouldn't be a charge and would handle it with the local affiliate. Six months later I got a call threatening that they would call a collection agency if I didn't pay. so I'm writing a check and letting you all know what occurred. TDS read more

both of the service technicians who came to the house were fantastic. Very polite, professional, and thorough. I have had several dishwasher installations over the years, and these guys are the best so far. My only complaint, which has nothing to do with the technicians, is that this business is very expensive. Single women beware !!! I got thoroughly soaked by Mr. Rooter. After checking with several experienced contractors and with the hardware store from which the parts for the repair were purchased I discovered they overcharged me by 25 to 50% for both parts and labor. I attempted to discuss the bloated bill with the manager expecting some receptivity as my first experience with Mr. Rooter 6 months ago was positive; but this time he just came back to me with an equally bloated accounting of the cost breakdown and was patronizing enough to believe I wouldn't recognize a ripoff when I saw it. In fairness I will add that the technician they sent was knowledgeable, pleasant, and did good work--though I will also add what had to be done--the installation of a new dryer vent--was not rocket science and it took a week to make an appointment. I've experienced before this tendency of repair people to overcharge women living alone and unknowledgeable about the mechanics of a house, but this experience with Mr. Rooter tops them all. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I have been using them for years but when i called for an emergency because i had frozen pipes they told me their emergency services are only for their valued customers. Regardless, their website advertises 24/7 ,emergencies, weekends and holidays no extra charge. We experienced a classic emergency (the house plumbing totally clogged) last night. Mr. Plumber of Poughkeepsie responded to our call immediately and arranged to have an excellent technician (Richard Purcell) come to our house. Mr. Purcell diagnosed the problem, corrected it and suggested how best to prevent a reoccurrence. He was professional, matter of fact and quite personable. In fact, we were so satisfied with Mr. Purcell's work, that we asked him to evaluate a few other plumbing concerns in our home. He provided us with excellent advice, including how to best replace a few plumbing fixtures in our home. We now plan to have Mr. Rooter do this work in the new future. Scott was able to come within the hour after I called. Our kitchen drain was plugged and nothing we did helped. He explained our options and pricing and we went ahead with his recommendation to power wash the lines. We just moved into this house last summer. It was built in the 60s. The sludge he was able to extract filled 2 five gallon buckets. Really bad. He also replaced the shut off valves which were leaky and corroded. Can't recommend highly enough! read more

I made an appointment to unclog a kitchen sink. I was able to get an appointment within 48 hours. Technician arrived within the expected window I was told. John explained ever he needed to do. He explained that if the clog was not where expected and he had to explore further it would be more money. Luckily it was where expected and the initial quote was what I paid. It was expensive but it was fixed. He ran water for 10 minutes to make sure it drained properly and then filled the sink up twice also and let it drain to check his work. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. I had a clogged kitchen sink and Cole the technician, (not a plumber), from Mr. Rooter came out. After "evaluating" the situation he said he could snake the drain out for $400.00. Even though the price was outrageous, for several reasons including having a sick, post-op person in my household and really needing my sink, I agreed. Cole, then got a fairly small snake, about 15' or so and tried to snake the pipe 2x. That's it 2X. This is what you get from Mr. Rooter for $400.00. A man with small snakes. After that not working he immediately went into salesman mode suggesting more and more outrageously priced options up to and including possibly having to break my ceiling and walls downstairs even though the pipes are exposed in my laundry room. So much for evaluating the situation properly. All with no guarantee or course. I passed. A day or two later I got a call from the company and I let them know how unhappy I was. I was told that if "I could refrain from leaving a bad review, they would credit back 1/2 my money." Needless to say I never got the credit. If I could add more stars, I would? Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Poughkeepsie is 100% professional and their service is second to none! As a landlord, my first intention is to cure every tenants complaint immediately in order to retain a great tenant/landlord relationship. When my tenant showed me a photo of her bathtub with one foot of water sitting in the tub and not moving, I panicked because in these times, you cannot locate any plumber or handyman! Everyone is booked out for weeks. When I called Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Poughkeepsie and spoke to Sara the administrator at their sister company, D Rohde Heating and AC, Sara gave me the time and attention and she made several phone calls to help me cure my problem today! Within two hours, an incredibly professional plumber by the name of Scott arrived at my site in Rhinebeck and he put on shoe covers before entering the house and he unclogged the bathtub and then he cleaned the tub with non-toxic Simple Green Cleaning products and my problem was solved on the spot. I offered to give Scott a larger tip and he said, that is not necessary, and I explained to Scott that I am in such gratitude for your immediate and professional service that I want to show you my appreciation and I slipped him a nice tip. UPDATE Tom Norton from their company called me profusely apologizing and saying he was going to make it right. He told me I would minimally get back the snaking I paid another company for which was $200 and he would talk to the owner Dan about the rest. He said he would contact me in a few days. After a few weeks I reached out and he told me Dan had been in India for a month but he would get back to me once he returned in a week. A month later I email him because he still doesn't respond. Here is his response "After reviewing the situation and speaking with Dan . We let Mike go. There are a number of issues I have with the whole situation.  The first one is mike claimed he never told you he would snake tub as part of job. He also claimed that he never told you the tub line was collapsed. On top of that he billed you for 7 working hours and was actually there for 11 hrs. It puts me in a he said she said situation. What do you feel is a fair resolution to this situation. I can offer you a refund of $100.00 as I have now way of telling exactly what happened. Obviously Mike was let go due to this as well." HOW INSANE! When I responded saying that he himself told me I would minimally get back $200 he never responded. It has been three months and still no response. I should get all the money I had to pay other people to fix everything they didn't do. Plus if you fired him then obviously you agree he was at fault . Them firing him was something they did for their business, not me. I paid them several thousand dollars for them not to complete several different things that I paid someone else to do. DISGUSTING COMPANY. BTW They had a truck with one name and uniform with another name. Apparently one company bought out the other so D.Rhodes and Mr.Rooter are one. my mother-in-law needed a lav faucet replaced. they showed up told her it was a 600.00 job. my wife calls me after he left when I heard this I said they job would take me 1/2 hour. She said it took him 5 minutes. I called and complained the manager said they had a standard price for each job regardless of the time the job takes. I asked to see the price list he refused to show it to me. I called Dept. of consumer protection. They knew about the company said the signature was binding nothing they could do and lots of people had complained about the company. P.S. A total waste of money! We called because the sewer backed up and overflowed into the basement. The guy that came out snaked the pipe and changed a broken pipe in the basement! $1500 dollars later, he fixed NOTHING! There was still a clog! Said we should have the pipe blown and wanted an extra $1000! A few days later we noticed our sink was leaking which NEVER leaked before he touched it.. The same guy came back and wanted $300 to fix the new leak! They claim to warranty the work but obviously they DON'T! We called the office and they never called back! (Great customer service!) That right there shows you they are just money hungry and can't or won't try to work with the customer! We called someone else who immediately assumed it was a clog, they blew the pipe for HALF of what Mr. Rooter wanted and FIXED IT! If the guy that came knew he didn't fix ANYTHING I don't think he should have charged that much! I don't mind paying for labor but $1500 is outrageous for doing NOTHING!!! A partial refund from the company would have been nice seeing that he didn't fix a thing! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Will never recommend this company! read more

I needed a new dishwasher installed. Previously, we had waited over two weeks for an appliance installer to show up just to say we should run the water and drain line to the sink rather than how it was, straight to basement--and that he couldn't run the line because he is not a plumber. I called 5 plumbers over the course of a week, and posted on Angie's list. No one even responded to my messages. I next called these guys, and they actually picked up the phone--already a miracle--and then sent someone out in two hours. Turns out he couldn't install it at the time either, we needed to change our electric hookup. He was very apologetic even tough it wasn't his fault; the previous appliance installer should have told us that. Once the electric work was done, I called, and they sent someone the next day. He was very courteous, wore a mask, cleaned up with a broom after he was done, and walked me through all that he did. Would definitely call on them again read more
