If you name your restaurant "Mr. Salsa's" you had better offer some pretty stellar salsa. This is not the case for the Oglesby restaurant. The salsa is thin, runny and has no flavor to speak of. Like tomato juice with a little diced onion in it. I was happily surprised that the rest of the food was good, but also under seasoned. I ordered a beef chimichanga which was filled with meat and not at all greasy. It was topped with a spoonful of guacamole, which was good but needed a bit of salt. We were out for a Sunday drive and decided to try a new restaurant, and we were not disappointed. I can say I would be happy to visit here for lunch or dinner. They have a nice bar if you would like an adult beverage. There was plenty of parking on the side of the building and on the street in front. You can get into the restaurant if you are mobility restricted as long as someone opens the door for you. The restaurant was very light and bright with the typical decorations. You could choose from tables of multiple sizes and booths. The restrooms were pretty little and I am not sure if you were in a wheelchair you would be able to easily use them. The food was very good and the menu was pretty extensive so it took a bit to decide what to order. We were served chips which are house made and very good and a tasty yet pretty basic salsa so I asked if they had a hotter salsa and was given a hot and a medium salsa when our server brought it to us she said she likes to mix them so we did and it was outstanding. One at the table ordered a steak chimichanga, one ordered a chicken enchiladas meal, and 2 ordered quesadillas. Every dish was served hot fresh and full of flavor. The steak in the chimi was cooked perfectly, as was the chicken in the other dishes. Our server could not have been better, she was friendly and spot on. Stopped here while driving through Oglesby on I-39. Only a couple min drive off the main highway. It was an excellent find. I had the taco combo with beef tacos and a cheese enchilada. My daughter had the soft shell chicken tacos. Plates came loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, rice, and beans. everything about our dining experience here was a positive one. The staff was very welcoming even when we came in rather late for dinner. They gave us warm chips and salsa that was divine. We couldn't help ourselves but ask for seconds. The quality of the meat in our dishes was superb. Our waiter was very helpful and efficient. We will be back the next time we are in town. We have seen this restaurant on Yelp and after reading the reviews decided to give them a try. Parking lot is just west of the building and the entrance is right off the parking lot. I ordered the combo Tamale, Chilli rellno Enchiladas and it was very good. My guest ordered the enchiladas and it was also good. Nice place, great service. Only critique was a little too much sauce. We got lucky when we got a severe weather alert and found this place. So delicious and excellent service. Felt like being taken care of by an old friend! It was taco Tuesday and we took advantage of that. They even fried the flour tortillas on my chicken tacos. My husband had the shredded beef tacos with the best rice he ever had and great beans. Friends stop here every once in a while for Taco Tuesday. They swore the tacos are awesome and $1.25 each.... So I gave it a try tonight because it's Cinco De Mayo, and they raised the price to $2.25 each? And they were the WORST tacos I've ever had- Stale, store bought corn shells that not only barely had any meat in them, there was barely any other filling in there either. Service was terrible. Beyond slow. Waited 20 minutes for chips & salsa. And the bar has ONE blender. So when a table orders margaritas, they are made one at a time. It took 15 minutes for us to get a round of drinks..... Great Mexican food- large portions and a comfy laid back small town atmosphere. Prices are about average (not cheap) and service can be a tad slow paced- but the food is worth it. Great Carne Asada, chicken burritos and ground beef tostadas. The building is not very inviting but walk in past the bar, and seat yourselves. Mr. Salsas is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Illinois Valley area. Don't listen to people telling you to go to Jalapenos. They are bland and crappy. Of course there is better Mexican food up in the city but this is about as good as it gets for down here. I think my favorite stuff to get here are chicken quesadilla with sour cream and guacamole and a classic margarita. The servers here are always friendly and the food always comes fast and it is good. It always has a lot of flavor and is very authentic. So if you're around the Oglesby area, I suggest you come here and try it out except on Monday they are closed that day. read more

You walk into the bar side then have to walk to the restaurant side. Which isn't a big deal. But our waitress Angelica was awesome. Great recommendations on the food, drinks and local things to do. The food was better then some Mexican restaurants where I normally eat. Highly recommended trying their food.
