Unwarned pita delivered after we'd finished our food
    Hurriyat G.

After hearing/reading a lot about their opening (on Facebook), I finally made my way down there today... on a Friday, around 12:30pm. It's a typical storefront but with a decent seating inside. When I went, there were 4 tables occupied, who were all eating at that time. During my time there 3 take away orders were also picked up. Let's talk about the food. We ordered and rated: My order: - Beef kebab wrap: 5/5!!!!! AWESOME - Babaghanoosh: 1/5... very disappointing. Tasteless and with under cooked/roasted eggplant, full of olive oil. - Vimto: 1/5... totally lacking carbonation! I was told that "we make our own at the back." Well, I'd appreciate the can .. this was just a sickly sweet concoction, with more ice in the glass than beverage. Friend's order: - Chicken wrap: 3.5/5 Not bad - Hummus either meat: 1/5.., pretty bland hummus and even blander meat pieces thrown on it. - Lemon mint drink: 4/5 Experience: My friend and I ordered and then sat waiting. Drinks were brought within 5 mins. Food followed in the next 8 mins. But our apps came without the pita bread. I had to ask for it twice before it was delivered to the table.... 28 mins AFTER we started eating, and by that time we were done with our entrees, with the apps sitting untouched. On my asking again, I was told that the lady at the back was busy making drinks for a table and she'll get to it when she gets to it. The funny thing is, when the bread was finally brought out, it was straight out of a pack and not even warmed up. So I'm not sure what the fuss was about ‍ The bread was delivered by the head chef himself, who I assume is the owner. And he did apologize for the delay. Portions are good.. not that huge so don't expect to bring home leftovers. Pricing is very reasonable. Though friendly, service needs to be made better.

The food is absolutely amazing, the ambience is authentic and beautiful as well as the owners of the restaurant my absolute favorite place to eat, and Nicholasville. The food is so tasty and the service is second to none. They are very generous in allowing you to experience different taste.

Loved the Chicken Kabob Wrap. Also got the Falafel and Hummus appetizers. Can't wait to go back and try more stuff for the first time.

Let me tell you, it's a recurrent (every 2 weeks) appointment, and I'm about to make my 3rd trip to Sahara this week. Wonderful price for the amount of food you get. The first time I went I was only able to eat about half of my portion. So much chicken! I got the chicken shawarma, and my hubby got the chicken leg lunch special. Wonderful seasoning, well cooked, great hummus, great Greek salad... the pita bread was meh, but I'll forgive it because everything else was great. The inside isn't a 5 star restaurant, but it's serviceable! Good amount of seating. The staff are friendly, open to questions, and very nice overall. They like to keep the line moving, so don't dilly dally. Ha! Overall, I can see why this was one of my friends favorite restaurants, and it's definitely added into my Lexington rotation.

I always double up on the garlic dip because it's seriously addictive, once you try it, you'll understand why! The food is always fresh and flavorful, and if you enjoy a bit of heat, definitely ask them to make it on a higher spice level. I usually get the lamb and beef shawarma at level 7, and it's absolutely perfect for me. The staff here are always so friendly and welcoming, and the whole place has a cozy, homey vibe that makes you feel comfortable right away. I also love the little store next door; they have some really unique items. If you're craving something sweet but want to avoid processed sugars, grab a pack of their dates. They're imported from Middle Eastern countries where they grow the best ones, and they taste so much better than anything you'd find at a regular grocery store. Sahara Mediterranean never disappoints. I'll definitely keep coming back, probably monthly, if not weekly!

Looking at the pictures on the menu I was wondering if o should order extra. I decided on a gyro platter and it was huge. I should back up. As I'm sitting waiting, they brought out a complimentary cup of lentil soup and it was delicious. Then the platter comes out it was an enormous portion. Also included hummus and cucumber yoghurt salad with a whole pita bread. Everything was delicious. Highly recommended.

My husband is obsessed with gyros and that's his favorite thing - there was a Shawarma plate that said it had steak, chicken and Gyro and what we thought that meant was that it was Shawarma and then there was a Gyro sandwich on the plate, but that wasn't the case. It was just the gyro meat. So that made my husband sad because he'd been looking to a Gyro all day. No fault to them, totally our misunderstanding. The food was delicious and the price was great. There are a couple of things I would like to see updated. When you get the Shawarma plate, everything comes on one plate and that means your salad is mixing with your hummus is mixing with your Shawarma. I would like to see the salad in a side bowl. The plate is so stuffed. It's hard to begin eating because everything is stuffed on there so tightly. I would like the salad in a separate bowl not just to avoid mixing but to allow me a little more room on my plate to begin eating. We will be back and I will probably request my salad in a side bowl in the future. The lentil soup is great and it comes complementary with the meal. I would also like to be able to buy a bigger bowl of that if I chose. I would also like the option of the fried bread pieces to sprinkle in my soup. I tried the cake, pistachio dessert, and that's the only thing I didn't care for too much. It was just very cakey and not my typical type of dessert. I would love to see them partner with Al Taj, and get some of the Dubai chocolate bars in for sale that would be awesome.

This evening was the season kickoff of The Kentucky Horse Park Run Walk and Mr. Gyros (pronounced sort of like year row) food truck was there. There was plenty of other things on the menu to try other than the gyro, but I just may never get anything other than the gyro again. As a matter of fact, I don't think I'll ever have another gyro that good! The pita was soft and just the perfectly leavened. I'm not usually a tomato fan, but these seemed homegrown, not like what I'm getting from the grocery lately. The meat portion of the chicken is a lot more than lamb, but both were the same price, $8 each. I haven't found a food truck list for the KHP Run Walk season, but I hope it includes Mr. Gyros again... next week? I did look up the Facebook page and found the schedule, where they will be throughout the week. This week, maybe I'll be seeing Mr. Gyros again this week.
