They did confuse me with another John, but while I waited I did note that they had a nice-looking buffet out and someone was actively checking temperatures to ensure it was up to code. What I got was a veggie platter and some foul on the side. The veggie platter had nice variety; the eggplant wasn't much to my taste and had kind of a one-note garlic flavor, but the bulk of the platter included salad, grape leaves, hummus, and falafel. My foul was very heavy on the olive oil, which settles on top in a takeout container, but once mixed offered a more nuanced, earthy flavor. The food was delicious, I recommend the lamb kabob. It was gorgeously marinated, tender and the best-seasoned lamb I have had in the area! The portion sizes for fries and rice were high, however, they were stingy with the meat- 2 kabobs not 3 like at most other locations. The server messed up our order, but was quick to fix it! 12/26/20 I came here for some dinner to go, as I was craving Mediterranean food. I ordered the mixed grill entree which comes with 3 skewers of meats: beef, lamb, and chicken. It comes on a bed of rice, picketed radish and pickles, along with a container of their delicious garlic sauce. Also, this entree comes with hummus, and a yummy salad. Everything was fresh and savory. My friend always comes here for a pita sandwich with chicken. She swears it's the best and comes back every week. I arrived a bit after my friends were seated, so I'm not sure what the menu item itself was called, but they had ordered an appetizer sampler of sorts with a little bit of everything. Yum! Baba Ganoush was the perfect flavor and texture for dipping. It also came with fresh pita, tabbouleh, stuffed grape leaves, falafel, labneh (like a soft cheese made with yogurt), and hummus. I must have had 4 whole pita breads, It was so good. Surprisingly, I found room in my stomach to order a main dish. I got the beef kebab which was tender, juicy, flavorful, and cooked wonderfully. We waited at least 10 minutes for some one to greet us, take drink orders, something. Nobody came. The table that we sat and waited at was grimy and dirty too. All of them were. Oasis is a good place to get Mediterranean food in Lexington! I've been for the lunch buffet before, but my most recent visit was for dinner on a Friday night. My friend and I walked in and were able to be seated right away. Oasis is a very small restaurant, with maybe 12 tables. The booths are slightly uncomfortable in that you have to sit at exactly a right angle- you aren't really able to lean. Because I love veggies and wanted to step outside my comfort zone of pita bread and hummus- I decided to order the "veggie lover" entree that was a sampling of stuffed grape leaves, falafel, hummus, moujadara, and moussaka. The grape leaves, moujadara (spiced rice & lentils), and hummus were amazing- along with the salad & pita bread the entree came with. The moussaka (eggplant chickpea stew dish) I liked OK but can't say I'd recommend; and the falafel, while very delicious, were a little too deep-fried for me personally. There was a lot of food- you definitely would be able to split an entree or take leftovers home! The servers at Oasis were all young guys who were very friendly, but not the most attentive. It was mostly fine because we weren't in any rush. Oasis is one of my favorite Mediterranean places in the country. Lexington is lucky to have several great ones. The lunch buffet is awesome. I love the fact that you can eat unlimited amounts of hummus, baba, and tabouli. It is mostly a vegetarian buffet but that is totally cool with me. If I come in for dinner I always order the 2-person platter that includes salad, hummus, and a huge platter loaded with rice and meats. It even includes 2 falafel and 2 kibbies. My husband and I are huge eaters, and we even have leftovers with this platter. It is a good deal. I'm craving it just thinking about it again. My mistake was not walking out of the restaurant when we first sat down at the sticky sticky sticky tables that we had to put paper napkins on. The waitress offered nothing as far as wiping off the table This is some of the worst food I've ever had. The lettuce had brown marks all over it and when we asked the waitress about it she said oh that's just the dressing. Bull. The lamb kabobs were probably about 3 days old and covered in salt and very dry. Could not even eat them. Very dirty nasty place. Service was terrible.
